  • BPA scan did not complete for one or more servers

    In Windows Server 2012 RTM, I am trying to run the BPA. It fails, saying "BPA scan did not complete for one or more servers" Try #1: Try #2: So, I decided to enable the Turn on Script Execution (with Allow all scripts) in Local Group Policy Editor, now I get a very nice exception message :) Clicking on ignore button, BPA logs the following error message: Try #3: So, I decided to go ahead and set the execution policy for all the scopes in PowerShell to unrestricted. Again no luck. What is going on?

  • 8Gb Fiber Channcel HBA vs. 10 Gb SPF+ Converged HBA

    I am putting a Dell server together, more specifically R720. I have to select the correct Host Bus Adapter. This HBA on R710 will connect to a storage device. I am confused between these two: QLogic 2562, Dual Port 8Gb Optical Fiber Channel HBA (price $2,045) QLogic 8262, Dual Port 10Gb SFP+, Converged Network Adapter (price $1,618) I thought since the QLogic 2562 is a fiber channel and is more expensive then it is faster in terms of IOPS. But, it is a 8Gb as opposed to 10 Gb of SFP+. My questions: Which one is better (IOPS performance, etc.)? Why should I choose one over another?

  • Need help starting with a game in Flash/AS3

    Hi, I am kinda new to flash/AS3. I have written some stuff and now I now the basics of AS. I want to develop a game in which my character moves. exactly like the way Super Mario moves(the background changes and new obstacles come in the way like and animation with which you can interact by climbing and shooting etc.) There is one big thing that I don't understand is that how to make my background moving and introduce new obstacles when my character moves forward. Currently my scene is static which means the background is the same and obstacles are also stationary. Can some point me to a tutorial or give me an answer that solves my confusion? thanks

  • Reading Open Source Projects

    About my programming knowledge: I have basic knowledge of programming. Have never worked in a team project. Have done, only, a couple of small solo projects. Problem: Consider a typical open source project. We want to know about the project, so that we can contribute, test it, just out of curiosity, etc. The documentations do not describe the code architecture, usually, so RTFM(!) wouldn't apply here. They usually tend to describe how to use the software, not how it is designed. Mailing Lists in big projects are very crowded. Tens of e-mails are send in just an hour. also, following the mailing list to know the project is like understanding a film when you have arrived late, when half of the film is gone or even worse. Obviously, the code is not like a novel. So, you can't start from downloading the source code and just "start from the first page and so on"! Question: How should one understand open source project? What are the steps to do in an open source project, to understand how the whole thing works and get into speed with the "under the hood"?

  • Difference between bug, defect and flaw

    I was reading "Software Security: Building Security In" and in the first chapter I faced with 3 terms: bug, defect and flaw. The author gave a definition for each of them but I couldn't completely understand these. Can someone give me some examples for each term? What is a defect and what is a flaw? I think I know what bug is, a bug is a malfunction of a part of system which produces undesirable result, be it crashing on a wrong input or miscalculating a series of computations. Can someone elaborate more and correct me if I am wrong in this? UPDATE To be more precise in the book I mentioned above, they (the words) are presented in a way to make a distinction, that's why I am asking to know more. In that book there are some examples denoting which sample belongs to what and which category. For example: Buffer overflow is said to be a bug and issues in method overriding (subclassing issues) is being related to flaw category. Again race condition handling issues are considered bugs and Error-handling problems (fails open) are told to be flaws! I want more elaboration on these regards.

  • Learning Programming during the job?

    Introduction: I have read and heard advice, about learning programming by accepting programming projects. I need real assistance to understand this, because: Problem: Although, it would seem to me that one would gain much more technical knowledge by doing, real world projects, if one doesn't know much about a technology, it would add much more risk to the actual delivery of the final product! Even the smallest of real world projects could be too much for a newbie. There is a contradiction here: You need to know the job to do it! and It's recommended to do the job, in order to learn it! Question: Any personal experiences in this case would be very pleasant to know while describing: How new was the subject to you? didn't have a clue at all? Or, did you have experience with similar technologies? Was it a solo project or were you in a team? If team, then did others help you with learning it? Did it work as expected? Did you deliver on time? Do you recommend this approach to others as well?

  • Symbol lookup error while starting pidgin in Arch

    I have just installed pidgin from the source code that i downloaded from pidgin site, it compile correctly with using below commands : ./configure --disable-gtkspell ; make ; make install but, when i try to start pidgin from terminal, occurres an error :? pidgin: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libfarstream-0.1.so.0: undefined symbol: g_key_file_free how can i solve this problem ?   • Permission to see the expandable list of ISA Server 2006

    I am working on ISA Server 2006 in Windows Server. I want to add some policy rules to my server, I followed this link. But It points to In the Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2006 management console, expand the array name, and then click the Firewall Policy node. When I open the ISA Server 2006 Management Console, I can not show the expand list, how can I force ISA to show the expandable tree to start Firewall Policy? Could any one please help me to do this ?   • Database design for very large amount of data

    Hi, I am working on a project, involving large amount of data from the delicious website.The data available is at files are "Date,UserId,Url,Tags" (for each bookmark). I normalized my database to a 3NF, and because of the nature of the queries that we wanted to use In combination I came down to 6 tables....The design looks fine, however, now a large amount of data is in the database, most of the queries needs to "join" at least 2 tables together to get the answer, sometimes 3 or 4. At first, we didn't have any performance issues, because for testing matters we haven't had added too much data in the database. No that we have a lot of data, simply joining extremely large tables does take a lot of time and for our project which has to be real-time is a disaster.I was wondering how big companies solve these issues.Looks like normalizing tables just adds complexity, but how does the big company handle large amounts of data in their databases, don't they do the normalization? thanks

  • Android RestTemplate Ok on emulator but fails on real device

    I'm using spring RestTemplate and it works perfect on emulator but if I run my app on real device I get HttpMessageNotWritableException ............ nested exception is java.net.SocketException: Broken pipe Here is some lines of my code(keep in mind my app works perfect on emulator) ............ LoggerUtil.logToFile(TAG, "url is [" + url + "]"); LoggerUtil.logToFile(TAG, "NetworkInfo - " + connectivityManager.getActiveNetworkInfo()); ResponseEntity<T> responseEntity = restTemplate.exchange(url, HttpMethod.POST, requestEntity, clazz); ............. I know my device's network works perfect because all other applications on my device are working and also using device browser I'm able to connect to my server so my server is available. My server is up and running and my device is able to connect to my server so why I get java.net.SocketException: Broken pipe ?!!!!!!! Before I call restTemplate.exchange() I log NetworkInfo and it looks ok -type: WIFI -status: CONNECTED/CONNECTED -isAvailable: true Thanks in advance.   • Locking a table for getting MAX in LINQ

I have a query in LINQ, I want to get MAX of Code of my table and increase it and insert new record with new Code. just like the IDENTITY feature of SQL Server, but here my Code column is char(5) where can be alphabets and numeric. My problem is when inserting a new row, two concurrent processes get max and insert an equal Code to the record. my command is: var maxCode = db.Customers.Select(c=>c.Code).Max(); var anotherCustomer = db.Customers.Where(...).SingleOrDefault(); anotherCustomer.Code = GenerateNextCode(maxCode); db.SubmitChanges(); I ran this command cross 1000 threads and each updating 200 customers, and used a Transaction with IsolationLevel.Serializable, after two or three execution an error occured: using (var db = new DBModelDataContext()) { DbTransaction tran = null; try { db.Connection.Open(); tran = db.Connection.BeginTransaction(IsolationLevel.Serializable); db.Transaction = tran; . . . . tran.Commit(); } catch { tran.Rollback(); } finally { db.Connection.Close(); } } error: Transaction (Process ID 60) was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction. other IsolationLevels generates this error: Row not found or changed. Please help me, thank you.

  • Using MySQL in Pydev Eclipse

    Hi, I am trying to access a MySQL database with python through Pydev Eclipse. I have installed the necessary files to access MysQL from python and I can access the database only when I write code in Python IDLE environment and run it from command prompt. However I am not able to run my applications from Pydev. when I use this "import MysqlDB" i get an error, but in IDLE no errors and my code runs very smoothly. Does anyone know were the problem is?   • Enforcing a query in MySql to use a specific index

    Hi, I have large table. consisting of only 3 columns (id(INT),bookmarkID(INT),tagID(INT)).I have two BTREE indexes one for each bookmarkID and tagID columns.This table has about 21 Million records. I am trying to run this query: SELECT bookmarkID,COUNT(bookmarkID) AS count FROM bookmark_tag_map GROUP BY tagID,bookmarkID HAVING tagID IN (-----"tagIDList"-----) AND count >= N which takes ages to return the results.I read somewhere that if make an index in which it has tagID,bookmarkID together, i will get a much faster result. I created the index after some time. Tried the query again, but it seems that this query is not using the new index that I have made.I ran EXPLAIN and saw that it is actually true. My question now is that how I can enforce a query to use a specific index? also comments on other ways to make the query faster are welcome. Thanks
