  • Unity calendar lens not showing events

    I'm trying to get proper/useful calendar integration into Ubuntu 12.04. I have a Google Calendar (& account) and I want to be able to use this without opening the browser. I want to get the Unity Calendar lens working, so that it shows events coming up, and it allows me a quick way to add new events. However, after installing it, it does not find any events, nor allow me to add a new event. Note that I've installed Lightning 1.4, Evolution mirror 0.2.3, Evolution, and unity-calendar lens. I've also installed Calendar-indicator. I suspect that somehow the lens is not getting the calendar information from thunderbird via evolution. A bit of searching around led me to try this command: /usr/lib/calendar-lens/calendar-lens-daemon.py. With this result: /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gobject/constants.py:24: Warning: g_boxed_type_register_static: assertion `g_type_from_name (name) == 0' failed import gobject._gobject Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/calendar-lens/calendar-lens-daemon.py", line 324, in daemon = Daemon() File "/usr/lib/calendar-lens/calendar-lens-daemon.py", line 80, in init for calendar in evolution.ecal.list_calendars(): AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'list_calendars' Any ideas?

  • Aggregate SharePoint Event/Items into your Calendar view using Calendar Overlay

    One of the most common features I have seen in common use for SharePoint (prior to 2010) in Intranet environments for Team site is Calendar’s. Not only the Calendar list type, but also the ability to add a Calendar view to any list that has the desired columns to construct a Calendar – such as Start, End, Title etc. While this was all great for a single site/calendar, the problem of having to track numerous calendar’s remained. With introduction of Outlook 2007 bi-directional integration with SharePoint, and particularly the ability of Outlook to overlay calendar helped bridge the gap. Now one could connect to number of team sites, and setup Calendar overlays in Outlook using varying colours, to easily identify event source and yet benefit from the plotting of events on single Calendar view. This was all good, but each user in your Enterprise was supposed to setup in a “pull” fashion. This is good for flexibility, not so good when you need to “push” consistency and productivity (re-use). So, what was missing on SharePoint is the ability to have server-side overlay’s that everyone can see – in a single place, aggregating multiple sources. Until SharePoint 2010 arrived! Calendars Overlay in SharePoint 2010 There are Calendar lists and Calendar views. View can be created for almost all lists, as far as you have desired column’s in a list like Start, End, Title etc. to be able to describe and plot an item in a Calendar format. In SharePoint 2010, create a new Calendar list. Go to Calendar ribbon tab, and click Calendar Overlay. You get the screen with list of existing Overlay’s associated with current Calendar (list – in our case). Click on “New Calendar”… Notice the breadcrumb! You are adding Overlay to existing list (Team Calendar – in our case). You have choice of “pulling” Calendar info from an existing Calendar (list/view) in SharePoint or even from Exchange! Set standard info like a name, description and decide the colour you want for the items in aggregated Calendar overlay. Select the source site/list/view, anywhere in farm. When you select Exchange as source of Calendar, you get option to add OWA and Exchange Web Service url. I will cover details of connecting with Exchange in another post, and focus on Overlay’s with SharePoint for this one. Once you have added a new Calendar overlay to existing Calendar veiw, you get something like below for Day view, Week view, and Month view respectively Notice the Overlay colours: Now, if you decide to connect this Calendar to Outlook to sync the items, it will only sync items from main view, and not from Overlay source. So such Overlay of calendar’s is server-side aggregation only. That increases my curiosity, so I try adding the Calendar list view as a web-part on a new page. As you see, this instance of view didn’t include item from source that we had added to default Calendar view. This is – probably – due to the fact that this is a new web-part view for the page. If you want to add overlay to this one, you have to redo that from Ribbon. This also means, subject to purpose and context you get the flexibility to decide what overlay is suited. Also you can only add 10 Overlay’s to an existing view instance. Conclusion Calendar Overlay is clearly a very useful feature that fills a gap of not being able to aggregate information from multiple sources into a Calendar view within context of current items. Source of items can be existing SharePoint calendar views on any site, or even Exchange (via OWA/Exchange web services). List type for source doesn’t matter, it just need a Calendar view type available. You can have 10 overlays. Overlays are for the specific view only, and are server-side only – which means they do not get synced in Outlook. While you can drag-drop current list items, you cannot edit overlay items as they are read-only within scope of current Calendar view. You can of course click on source Overlay item to edit at the source. I’d like to hear, how you think Overlay’s will help you in your case, or how you are already using them...     Google has a great cloud-based calendar service that is part of their Gmail product.  Besides using it as a personal calendar, you can use it to store events for display on your web site.  The calendar is accessible through Google's GData API for which they provide a C# SDK. "NumberToRetrieve" will limit the amount coming back  I then using Linq to Objects to put the results into my own DTO for use by my model.  It is always a good idea to place data into your own DTO for use within your MVC model.  This protects the rest of your code from changes to the underlying calendar source or API.

I like it but I tend to keep all my events in google calendar. korganizer version is 4.4.11 Is there a way that I can get my google calendar to sync with this panel-clock calendar? thanks EDIT:1 It looks like what I need to do is sync google calendar with korganizer and that should do the trick, from what I understand. EDIT:2 some answers here suggest I need this plug-in sudo apt-get install akonadi-kde-resource-googledata but they give no explanation on how to configure it once installed.

  • Why won't Outlook sync with Google Calendar?

    A colleague of mine is having problems with Outlook and Google Calendar Sync. He got a new machine and set up Outlook 2007 on that machine. He also installed Google Calendar Sync. However, when he synced Outlook with Google Calendar, he got a number of duplicate entries in Outlook's calendar. We tried deleting all entries in the Outlook calendar and doing a 1-way sync from Google Calendar to Outlook, but the duplicated entries appeared again. We ultimately removed the duplicated entries manually, but we experienced problems pushing the changes back to Google Calendar, so we deleted the calendar in Google Calendar and tried to sync again (using a 1-way sync from Outlook to Google). Now Google Calendar Sync says that it is synchronizing, but no entries appear in the Google Calendar calendar. What could the problem be?

  • Reusable calendar popup like iCalendar/scheduler on iPad? Not a date picker wheel.

    I need a date picker that shows an actual calendar (similar to the built-in calendar feature on the iPad.) Is there a reusuable widget? How could I easily implement one? The date picker wheel is terrible because it doesn't show you the day of the week (Sun, Mon, Tue...) and isn't really needed on the iPad where you have enough room to show a calendar which is a very user friendly way of letting someone pick a date (it is mentally easy to find the third Tuesday from today.)

  • Using Gdata Calendar API for PHP App to create a calender system with event ownership

    Hello, I'm working on a PHP app, and I'm trying to find the best way to set up a calendar system. First let me describe the intended function of the system: The application has multiple users who can login simultaneously. Each user should be able to add their own events and display them on their "profile." Also, on another page, the events should be able to be shown all together (from all users) and from each individual users exclusively. Since Google Calendar has a nice calendar-looking interface, I thought I would work with the GData APIs. Originally, I thought this would make things easier. But then it seems that if I want to represent event ownership, either each user would have to have a google account or somehow they all would each have to have a separate calendar. Thus, the application would have to create the calendar (if it does not exist) and be able to edit only their calendar. Two questions: Can I somehow use the GData APIs to accomplish my goal? (Mainly event ownership.) Should I just create my own calendar like application? Thanks!

However when I get an invitation sent through Apple Mail and I click it, it adds the invite to the default iCal calendar and not my Google Calendar (i.e. going to Google Calendar or bringing it up on my iPhone doesn't show the newly-added event). How can I change this so clicking on an invite will add it to my Google Calendar and display in iCal's synced Google Calendar view?

    The reason I need to find out is that on an iPad, a UIPickerView has the same height in landscape orientation as it does in portrait. On an iPhone it is different. The iPad programming guide introduces an "idiom" value to UIDevice: UIDevice* thisDevice = [UIDevice currentDevice]; if(thisDevice.userInterfaceIdiom == UIUserInterfaceIdiomPad) { // iPad } else { // iPhone } which works OK while you're in iPad (3.2) but not iPhone (3.1.3) - so it looks like there also needs to be an ifdef to conditionally compile that check, like: #if __IPHONE_OS_VERSION_MIN_REQUIRED >= 30200 UIDevice* thisDevice = [UIDevice currentDevice]; if(thisDevice.userInterfaceIdiom == UIUserInterfaceIdiomPad) { // etc. } #endif To me that's starting to look very clumsy. What's a better way?

  • Aggregate SharePoint Event/Items with Exchange appointments into your Calendar view using Calendar O

    In continuation of my previous post about using Calendar Overlay with new SharePoint 2010 when you have other Calendar view in any other lists in SharePoint. Now the other option for Overlay we have is with Exchange. You can overlay current users (logged in user) personal Calendar (from Exchange) onto a existing SharePoint calendar, in any list, by using new Overlay feature. Here is an example: Yes, you have to point to your OWA and Exchange WS url. It can also go and find your web service url, when you click find. In my case, it converted machine name into FQDN. That was smart… I had initial configuration issue, that my test users (Administrator!) didn’t have corresponding Exchange e-mail in SharePoint profile. So you have to ensure that your profiles are in sync with AD/Exchange for e-mail. It picks up current user’s e-mail from profile to pull data from Exchange calendar. My calendar in OWA… Same calendar in Outlook 2010… I think, new Calendar Overlay feature fills a great void. Users can now view SharePoint information within context of their personal calendar.   • Problem with video playback on iPad with MPMoviePlayerViewController

    Hello everybody... I have been fighting some code for about a week, and am hoping that someone else may have experienced this problem and can point me in the right direction. I am using the MPMoviePlayerViewController to play a video on the iPad. The primary problem is that it works FLAWLESSLY on the iPad Simulator, but will not play at all on the iPad. I have tried re-encoding the video to make sure that isn't an issue. The video I'm using is currently a 480x360 video encoded with H.264 Basline 3.0 with AAC/LC audio. The video plays fine on the iPhone, and also does play through Safari on the iPad. The video actually loads, and you can scrub through the video with the scrubber bar and see that it is there. The frames actually display, but just will not play. If you click play, it just immediately stops. Even when I have mp.moviePlayer.shouldAutoplay=YES set, you can see the player attempt to play, but only for a split second (maybe 1 frame?). I have tried just adding view with the following code: in .h ------ MPMoviePlayerViewController *vidViewController; @property (readwrite, retain) MPMoviePlayerViewController *vidViewController; in .m ------ MPMoviePlayerViewController *mp=[[MPMoviePlayerViewController alloc] initWithContentURL:[NSURL URLWithString:videoURL]]; [mp shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:YES]; mp.moviePlayer.scalingMode=MPMovieScalingModeAspectFit; mp.moviePlayer.shouldAutoplay=YES; mp.moviePlayer.controlStyle=MPMovieControlStyleFullscreen; [videoURL release]; self.vidViewController = mp; [mp release]; [self.view addSubview:vidViewController.view]; float w = self.view.frame.size.width; float h = w * 0.75; self.vidViewController.view.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, w, h); I have also just tried to do a: [self presentMoviePlayerViewControllerAnimated:self.vidViewController]; which I actually can not get to orient properly...always shows up in Portrait and almost completely off the screen on the bottom, and the app is only intended to run in either of the Landscape views... If anybody needs more info, just let me know. I'm about at my wits end on this. ANY help will be GREATLY appreciated.

  • Playing iPad to iPad Wifi games over PPTP VPN

    I'm trying to use a VPN to play iPad to iPad Wifi (Local) games over the internet. Normally you open the game on both iPad's, connect to the same Wifi point and they can "see" and speak to each other. I figure using a VPN I can put them both on the same network (either both on the VPN or one on the "real" network and one on the VPN). On my router I've set up PPTP VPN with the ip range 192.168.1.2-50, where the PC's on the real local network are assigned 192.168.1.100+ When I connect one of the iPads to the VPN, using an external WiFi network (BT Openzone) I can ping it as expected (from any machine on the local network). However the iPad's cannot "see" each other and none of the Wifi-Wifi games work. I've also tried connecting both iPad's to the same VPN, with the result the same. All machines on the local network (and those on the VPN) can ping the iPad's but none of the Wifi to Wifi games work. I've set both iPads to send all trafic over the VPN and if I check their external IP's they match that of the real network. Does anyone know how to fix this? And/or what is causing it? Or what further debug information I can provide? Note: I don't feel this is iPad specific so would prefer if this isn't moved to a Apple SuperUser equivalent

  • Test iPhone app on iPad mini?

    I have developed an iPhone app, right now I only need a device for testing. I have 300$, and two choices - second hand iPhone 4, or brand new iPad mini. The better choice obviously is the iPad, but is it sufficient for testing iPhone apps on? On the iPad, iPhone apps can run just fine in 2X mode, but are there any differences between the app performance on iPhone and iPad (except the chipset). Should I test my app on actual iPhone, or the iPad will suffice? My app is RSS reader, not some game, so I think everything will be fine with testing on iPad mini. If I buy the iPad I will find some friends iPhone 4/3gs running iOS 5.1 (because my app's deployment target is 5.1, and the iPad comes with 6.0), but of course I can't extensively test on this iPhone. Thank you!
