• Izpack: Creating custom panels

  Hi, I am trying to create a custom panel for an IzPack installer. This means that I have to extend IzPanel. However, it appears that if I do this, the extended panel needs to be in the com.izforge.izpack.panels package. Then I found this post, which stipulates that: As such, you must include installer.jar from the lib folder of IzPack in the build path of your custom panel project. Your custom panel /must/ extend com.izforge.izpack.installer.IzPanel. Furthermore, it /must/ reside in the com.izforge.izpack.panels package. On top of it all, your build jar's name /must/ be the same as the unqualified name of your custom panel class. I take issue with the 1st and 4th points. They imply that I have to create an additional JAR file for each custom IzPanel that I create. Also, I would have to modify the IzPack installation by adding these JARs to one of its subdirectories. Is this article outdated (2008) and can it be safely ignored, or is this still true? If not how can I avoid this and simply have the extended IzPanel on the classpath instead? Thank you!

• HTML Links on IzPack HTMLInfoPanel not working correctly

  In my installer (created using IzPack) i am using HTMLInfoPanel, in the HTML data for this info panel I have a website link and an email address. The problem is 1) When I click on the website link, the page is opened in the Installer panel itself, instead of open the page in the default browse window. 2) When I click on the email link, the page in the panel just refreshes and does nothing instead of opening the mail client for the user. Following is HTML for the link: <a href="http://www.XYZ.com/" target="_blank">XYZ, Ltd.</a> HTML for the eMail link: <A HREF="mailto:[email protected]" target="_blank">[email protected]</A> I couldn't find any help fixing this in the IzPack documentation other forums. Can somebody help solve this? I am using IzPack V 4.1

• Calling Java classes from IzPack

  I am trying to write an IzPack installer which is able to detect a previously installed version of the application. After finding out that it doesn't really support this feature, I think the only way to do this is through writing a Java class and calling it from IzPack. Tim Williscroft has previously suggested this method: <condition type="java" id="jbossEnv"> <java> <class>au.com.codarra.ela.installer.JBossChecker</class <field>hasJBossEnv</field> </java> <returnvalue type="boolean">true</returnvalue> </condition> However, is it possible to call <java> from somewhere other than a <condition> tag? I want to be able to call it from a <variable> tag. Also, is it possible to call a method from a Java class instead of reading a value of a field? I want to be able to pass parameters to my class. • How to get IzPack tocheck for an existing version of the software?

  Hi, I have an application for which we use IzPack to create the installer. The installer is working fine in its current state, however, I need to add functionality that enables it to check whether an existing version of the software has been installed. I understand IzPack supports this out of the box using its CheckedHelloPanel, unfortunately that only works for Windows, as it appears to depend on the windows registry. Is there a way to configure IzPack such that it is able to detect existing installations? I need to be able to detect whether there is one and merely display a message notifying the user... Bonus points for how to give the user the option to trigger the uninstaller of the existing installation. Assume that the software will only be installed using the new installer IzPack only: please do not suggest alternatives, as we cannot change that now If you suggest using <validator>, please include a code sample of the validator class, because I have considered this, but don't know where to start

• Installer for java application

  Hi, I would like to know what packages are out there that can be used to create installers to distribute applications. The target application is written in Java. The installer must be able to: be compiled via an ant script be compiled Linux (and Windows) run on Windows and Linux detect / handle previously installed versions of the application We currently use IzPack, because it does all of the above, except the latter: It cannot easily detect previously installed version of the software. Are there any other packages out there which fit the bill? Thank you!
