• Fluid Columns with matching height and background image

  I'm working on a new layout for my site that uses a header, footer and two column center region. The two columns consist of the main content area which is fluid height and width and a right sidebar which is fluid height and fixed width. I have done similar layouts before, but this one depends on using two different background images (one for the sidebar and one for the content area). Is there any way to implement this, using proper HTML & CSS, so that the background images of the two columns are always the same height, regardless of which columns content is longer? I've tried using JavaScript to simulate this, but it doesn't work so well if there are images in the content area. I would really prefer not to use this method any way. Any help is greatly appreciated. I have setup a staging environment at http://staging.jamesarmes.net/jimmyssandbox to provide an example. This environment is not my finished product, but I want to get the containers under control before I move any further

• Windows Vista Wrong Certificate With SNI

  I'm setting up SNI on an apache server and I thought things were going well. I have two URLs from different domains that point at the same site. I have one virtual host setup for each with the appropriate certificate for each. One of the certificates is valid but the other is self-signed (waiting on GoDaddy for the real cert). If I test the different URLs in Firefox, Safari and Opera all works well. I get no errors for the URL with the valid certificate and I get a self-signed warning for the other. However, in Internet Explorer 8 and Google Chrome, both URLs return the valid certificate (even if its not valid for the specific site). So for the one site, I get a valid certificate. For the other, I get a warning about the cert being for a different site. I tried switching the order of the vhosts and it made no difference. I know that Chrome and IE both use Window's HTTP stack so I understand why the behavior is the same for the two. What I don't understand is why I'm seeing this behavior.

• Uploads fail with shorewall enabled

  I have an Ubuntu 8.04 server with shorewall 4.0.6 installed. When I try to upload files using FTP, SCP, or cURL the file upload stalls almost immediatly and eventually times out. If I turn off shorewall then the uploads work fine. I don't have any rules that specifically allow FTP and I'm not too concerned with it, but I do need to be able to upload via 22 (SCP) and 80 & 443 (cURL). This is what my rules look like: COMMENT Allow Server to respond to any web (80) and SSL (443) requests ACCEPT net $FW tcp 80 ACCEPT $FW net tcp 80 ACCEPT net $FW tcp 443 ACCEPT $FW net tcp 443 COMMENT Allow Server to respond to SNMPD (161) requests ACCEPT net $FW udp 161 COMMENT Allow Server to respond to MySQL (3306) requests (for MySQL Graphing) ACCEPT net $FW tcp 3306 COMMENT Allow Server to respond to any SSH connection attempts, and to SSH out. SSH/ACCEPT net $FW SSH/ACCEPT $FW net COMMENT Allow Server to make DNS Requests out. DNS/ACCEPT $FW net COMMENT Default "close" anything else. Ping/REJECT net $FW ACCEPT $FW net icmp #LAST LINE -- ADD YOUR ENTRIES BEFORE THIS ONE -- DO NOT REMOVE I expected the top four ACCEPT lines to allow inbound and outbound traffic over 80 and 443 and I expected the two SSH/ACCEPT lines to allow inbound and outbound trffic over 22, including SCP. • Calendar Day View in PHP

  I'm working on adding a day view option to an existing calendar solution. Like many people implementing their own calendars, I am trying to model Google Calendars. They have an excellent calendar solution and their day view provides a lot of flexibility. For most part, the implementation is going well; however, I'm having issues when it comes to conflicting events. Essentially, I want the events to share the same space, side by side. Events that start at the same time should have the longest event first. In the example data set I'm working with, I have four events: A: 10:30 - 11:30 B: 13:30 - 14:30 C: 10:30 - 11:00 D: 10:45 - 14:00 I can handle A, C, and D just fine, the problem comes with D. A should be left of C which should be left of D; each taking one third of the width (it's fixed width so I can do simple math to figure that out). The problem is that B should be under A and C, to the left of D. Ideally, B would take up the same amount of space as A and C (two thirds width), but I would even settle for it only taking up only one third width. My array of events looks similar to the following: $events = array( '1030' => array( 'uniqueID1' => array( 'start_time' => '1030', 'end_time' => '1130', ), 'uniqueID2' => array( 'start_time' => '1030', 'end_time' => '1100', ), ), '1045' => array( 'uniqueID3' => array( 'start_time' => '1045', 'end_time' => '1400', ), ), '1330' => array( 'uniqueID3' => array( 'start_time' => '1330', 'end_time' => '1430', ), ), ); My plan is to add some indexes to each event that include how many events it conflicts with (so I can calculate the width) and which position in that series it should be (so I can calculate the left value). However, that doesn't help the B. I'm thinking I might need an algorithm that uses some basic geometry and matrices, but I'm not sure where to begin. Any help is greatly appreciated.
