• OTN Developer Days (Review) - San Juan, PR - April 29, 2010

  A quick update on the San Juan, PR event. First off it was a great success with the Keynote audience of 200+. Mickey Ralat, Managing Director Oracle Caribbean, kicked off the event with a quick introduction followed by me delivering the Keynote Message - The Fusion Development Platform which is the first session in the regular OTN DD events that we run in North America. Following this session was a partner, SDT, basically marketing their services which covers the Oracle stack and then following was a very brief presentation on APEX. After this we broke out into the various tracks of Java, (APEX) DB SQL Developer, .NET on Oracle. After the breakout we ran the following sessions in the Java track: Developing with JDBC, UCP, and Java in Database, Rich Internet Applications in Web 2.0, Development Made Simple Without Coding: Developing Reusable Business Components. As expected with the various tracks, we ended up with 50 - 70 in the various sessions within the JAVA track and the audience was very impressed with the power of JDeveloper/ADF 11g and we got a number of questions from licensing cost to upgrading / integrating from Forms. As for the Forms questions, I fielded a number of them and for those I couldn't, I pointed them towards Grants resources which seemed to suffice. They were all, for the most part, unaware of the recent 11.1.1.3 release which occurred only a couple of days prior to the event. The indication was that they were going to download it and use it for the lab that was included on the DVD which we did not have the time for them to even start on. Im taking the responsability of "single instance" to the borrower, instead of keeping that responsability inside the NonSingletonBook, that since it has not anymore a private constructor, can be instantiated as many times... making instances on each call. So, What does my NonSingletonBook class MUST be in order to never allow borrowers to have this same book twice? (aka) keep the single instance. Because the dependency injector part of the code (borrower) does not solve me this AT ALL. Is it needed the container with an "asShared" method builder with static behavior? No way to encapsulate this functionallity into the Book itself? "Hey Im a book and I shouldn't be instantiated more than once, I'm unique"

• Help! Online upgrade from 12.04 to 14.04 stuck

  I was trying to upgrade my Lenovo T500 laptop from Kubuntu 12.04 LTS to Kubuntu 14.04 LTS. Fired up the upgrade process, and finally after downloading a zillion packages the upgrade got going, only to get stuck... It has been stuck for hours on: Installing the upgrades->Unpacking subversion Last lines of error messages: GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.32.4/./gobject/gtype.c:2722: You forgot to call g_type_init() at /usr/lib/perl/5.18/DynaLoader.pm line 207. GLib-CRITICAL **: g_once_init_leave: assertion `result != 0' failed at /usr/lib/perl/5.18/DynaLoader.pm line 207. I don't care much about subversion anymore, I use git now; I don't care if subversion ends up in a bad state and I have to remove it... I just want the upgrade to continue, and hopefully complete. • Please Help with ATI Radeon 4250 and Xinerama

  I am using ubuntu 11.10 fresh install and I am having problems making the second screen to work, I remember before I was able to do it by extending the desktop to a larger number like 3840 X 1080 but since I am new I completely forgot how to do it, Now I have a philips 230 E monitor full 1920 X 1080 and a Toshiba tv HDMI and I want to activate the second monitor to be able to use Xinerama but I don't know how to go about this, I want to keep the Phillips as a primary monitor since it's the smaller one and use the TV from time to time to play videos movies and presentations. I installed all the additional drivers and don't know what else to do. I would prefer if I can use a list of exact commands to copy and paste onto the terminal since that is all I know how to use LOL . Thank you so much for your help. • No more internet connection after update in 14.04 with Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 7260

  My Dell XPS 15 (haswell) was working fine until I stupidly accepted recently to apply Ubuntu updates. Since then, my wifi does not work (it shows "device not managed" when clicking wifi icon in toolbar). Even USB to Ethernet adapter does not seem to work. Bluetooth at least "sees" other bluetooth devices around... Cuando abordamos un desarrollo a medida, estamos pensando únicamente en las necesidades de hoy. Es muy posible que este desarrollo salga bien, que estemos orgullosos de nuestro trabajo, e incluso que proclamemos a los 4 vientos el dinero que nos hemos ahorrado. Sin embargo el mundo no se para, el negocio no se para, la adaptación debe ser permanente, nuestros clientes, internos y externos, tendrán nuevas exigencias y nuestro desarrollo no estará terminado, tendremos que integrarlo con otras áreas, tendremos que tratar de darle mayor funcionalidad y alcance, tendremos que adaptarlo a las nuevas tecnologías, permitir que la información se analice, se comparta, se acceda desde nuevos dispositivos … y veremos en primera persona cómo la trampa del desarrollo se cierra sobre nuestras cabezas, nunca estará terminado, la tecnología que usamos un día se quedará obsoleta, el ritmo de exigencia por funcionalidad e integración será cada vez mayor y no podremos sino poner más y más recursos dedicados al mantenimiento de un desarrollo propio, que no deja de comer, que me obliga a gastar más y más cada día y del que no puedo salir. Al poco tiempo me he convertido en una empresa de desarrollo de software dentro de mi propia empresa y ni tengo los recursos económicos para hacerlo viable, ni tengo las capacidades humanas y de inversión para responder a lo que se me exige desde el negocio. Así que pensemos, desde el principio, en que nuestra empresa debe perdurar muchos años, y hagamos el análisis de costes bajo esta perspectiva a la hora de tomar la decisión y veremos entonces que la adquisición de un ERP es mucho más económica que el desarrollo a medida. Por otro lado tenemos la integración. Un sistema de producción, requiere la asignación de recursos, que a su vez requieren de un plan de desarrollo, una formación o un cálculo de su nómina; también requiere de una cuenta contable, de una gestión de compras o de una asignación de costes y claro,de todos estos puntos nos vamos dando cuenta sobre la marcha, cuando en un sistema de gestión integral (ERP) lo tenemos disponible desde el primer momento. Claro que no nos vale un ERP cerrado, poco flexible y que no me permita diferenciar a mi empresa. Tenemos que buscar un socio tecnológico que nos acompañe, que asuma la inversión en tecnología y que me vaya suministrando versiones y soluciones acordes a las exigencias de los tiempos, de hoy y de mañana, pero además que me permita adaptar los flujos e innovar en los procesos para que podamos diferenciar nuestra empresa de la competencia, hoy y mañana. Veremos cómo, con la decisión de un ERP, flexible y abierto, los números salen y en el largo plazo es mucho más económica la decisión de adquirir un ERP que de optar por el desarrollo.   Hi All, In a "Issue" list, I have a mandatory field called "Status", to control the status (Identified, implemented, postponed, etc.). I need to control the behavior of each record based on that field content. For certain status the record should became read only, and only admin users should be able to edit / change it. • Can't display RSSI values in Wireshark

  I am trying to analyze the up-link Wireless traffic generated by my Sony Ericsson phone and captured by my D-Link router, on which I installed the DD-WRT firmware. To do this, first I log in the router and enable the prism0 interface by typing the command: wl -i eth1 monitor 1 and then I start to capture the packets by typing: tcpdump -i prism0 ether src xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx -s0 -w /tmp/smbshare/sony_ericsson_test.pcap where xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx is the MAC address of my Sony Ericsson phone. After a while I transfer the sony_ericsson_test.pcap file to my computer and open it with Wireshark program. In order to display the RSSI values I follow this procedure: Edit - Preferences... - Columns - Press "Add" button - As "Field type" I choose "IEEE 802.11 RSSI" and finally I choose name "Power" and click on "Apply" button. The problem is that the column "Power" is empty with no RSSI values. Does Anyone has a clue on why are RSSI values not displayed? Maybe I am missing a passage. Looking forward to hearing from anyone of you! Thanks in advance for your help!

I uncommented the line Include /private/etc/apache2/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf on /etc/apache2/httpd.conf. • Wireless Drivers for Broadcom BCM 4321 (14e4:4329) will not stay connected to a wireless network

  So, I'm not necessary new to Linux, I just never took the time to learn it, so please, bare with me. I just swapped out one of my wireless cards from one computer to another. This wireless card in question would be a "Broadcom BCM4321 (14e4:4329)" or actually a "Netgear WN311B Rangemax Next 270 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter", but that's not important. I've tried (but probably screwed up in the process) installing the "wl" , "b43" and "brcmsmac" drivers, or at least I think I did. Currently I have only the following drivers loaded: eugene@EugeneS-PCu:~$ lsmod | grep "brcmsmac\|b43\|ssb\|bcma\|wl" b43 387371 0 bcma 52096 1 b43 mac80211 630653 1 b43 cfg80211 484040 2 b43,mac80211 ssb_hcd 12869 0 ssb 62379 2 b43,ssb_hcd The main issue is that with most of the drivers available that I've installed, they will find my wireless network but, they will only stay connected for about a minute with abnormally slow speed and then all of a sudden disconnect. Currently, the computer is hooked into another to share it's connect so that I can install drivers from the internet instead of loading them on to a flash drive and doing it offline. If anyone has any insight to the problem, that would be awesome. If not, I'll probably just look up how to install the Windows closed source driver. Edit 1: Even when I try the method here, as suggested when this was marked as a duplicate, I still can't stay connected to a wireless network. Edit 2: After discussing my issue with @Luis, he opened my question back up and told me to include the tests/procedures in the comments. Basically I did this: Read the first answer of the link above when this question was marked as duplicate which involved installing removing bcmwl-kernel-source and instead install firmware-b43-installer and b43-fwcutter. No change of result and contacted Luis in the comments, who then told me to try the second answer which involved removing my previous mistake and installing bcmwl-kernel-source Now the Network Manger (this has happend before, but usally I fixed it by using a different driver) even recognizes WiFi exist (both non-literal and literal). Luis who then suggested sudo rfkill unblock all rfkill unblock all didn't return anything, so I decide to try sudo rfkill list all. Returns nothing (no wonder rfkill unblock all did nothing). I enter lsmod | grep "brcmsmac\|b43\|ssb\|bcma\|wl" and that returns nothing. Try loading the driver by entering sudo modprobe b43 and try lsmod | grep "brcmsmac\|b43\|ssb\|bcma\|wl" again. Returns this: eugene@Eugenes-uPC:~$ sudo modprobe b43 eugene@Eugenes-uPC:~$ lsmod | grep "brcmsmac\|b43\|ssb\|bcma\|wl" b43 387371 0 bcma 52096 1 b43 mac80211 630653 1 b43 cfg80211 484040 2 b43,mac80211 ssb_hcd 12869 0 ssb 62379 2 b43,ssb_hcd So to recap: Currently Network Manager doesn't recognize Wireless exists, b43 drivers are loaded and I've currently hardwired a connect from my laptop to the computer that's causing this.

  Hi all, I'm using the function preg_replace but I cannot figure out how to make it work, the function just doesn't seem to work for me. What I'm trying to do is to convert a string into a link if any word contains the % (percentage) character. For instance if I have the string "go to %mysite", I'd like to convert the mysite word into a link. I tried the following... $data = "go to %mysite"; $result = preg_replace('/(^|[\s.\,\:\;]+)%([A-Za-z0-9]{1,64})/e', '\1%\2', $data); ...but it doesn't work.   Hello I compiled & installed gcc4.4 using macports. When I try to compile using - g++ -g -Wall -ansi -pthread -std=c++0x main.cpp...: #include ... std::thread t(handle); t.join(); .... The compiler returns: cserver.cpp: In member function 'int CServer::run()': cserver.cpp:48: error: 'thread' is not a member of 'std' cserver.cpp:48: error: expected ';' before 't' cserver.cpp:49: error: 't' was not declared in this scope But std::cout <<... compiles fine.. • mootools errors in Joomla...

  Hi.. I'm having a problem.. the site is working correctly in safari, chrome and firefox (mac and win) but in Internet explorer I get an error related with mootools: Line: 59 Character: 102. The site URL is: http://my-essencia.com I've noticed that mootools is being loaded two times, maybe another component is calling it again, how can I remove this call?? or how can I locate witch component is making this call?? Another thing is the gmaps doesn't work (only in IE)(it worked before) This map is generated by a component named iproperty, I've asked in the support forums but no responses. This is very frustrating because I didn't make the site and I don't know what was installed wrong. Any advice or directions will be very appreciated. Thank you guys, Luis.

  Do you know of any text editor that can be used with a spell checker which is smart enough to ignore XHML/CSS and javascript tags? The requirements would be: It must run in Linux; It must be free and open source; It doesn't need to have WYSIWYG capabilities, but they would be welcome. It must have built in "tag skipping" capabilities or be configurable to skip (X)HTML tags, CSS and embedded Javascript; It doesn't need to have a HTML validator, but if it does it will be a plus; I've tried to use spell checker plugins for Kate, HTML validators for Firefox, Eclipse's HTML editor, but I couldn't find a solution that have a speel checker that ignores hml tags.   I am writing some Selenium tests and I need to be able to find an ancestor of a WebElement that I have already found. • Using PHP with the default Mac Apache + PHP installation

  Hi, I'm starting to unravel the mysteries of PHP and I configured the pre-installed Snow Leopard PHP and activated the Apache server in the system preferences. So far so good: it works if you put a PHP file in your ~/Sites directory. Since I've my projects in a code/projects directory I created a symbolic link from the ~/Sites dir to the code/projects/one-project/php-dir and bang!, a 403 error: access forbidden. I've been changing the permissions of the dirs to 777, but no luck. Is anyone using the default Snow Leoapard configuration for PHP development and if so, how do you link to your codebase?
