  I'm not managing to connect to cassandra from outside machines. The database is hosted on a windows machine and im trying to connect through a mac (but this shouldn't cause problems) Local connection works: C:\cassandra\bin>cassandra-cli Starting Cassandra Client Connected to: "Test Cluster" on 127.0.0.1/9160 Welcome to Cassandra CLI version 1.1.6 But fails from other machines on the same network bin/cassandra-cli --host 192.168.0.10 --port 9160 org.apache.thrift.transport.TTransportException: java.net.ConnectException: Operation timed out at org.apache.thrift.transport.TSocket.open(TSocket.java:183) at org.apache.thrift.transport.TFramedTransport.open(TFramedTransport.java:81) at org.apache.cassandra.cli.CliMain.connect(CliMain.java:70) at org.apache.cassandra.cli.CliMain.main(CliMain.java:246) Exception connecting to 192.168.0.10/9160. There is a router on the network but these ports have been triggred Ports: 1024, 7000, 7001, 7199, 9160 And the same ports were forwarded to 192.168.0.10 (where Cassandra is hosted) Cassandra version is 1.0.7 And the settings I think i need to change in cassandra.yaml listen_address: 192.168.0.10 rpc_address: I'm not really sure if I've missed any steps. Any help would be appreciated.

  Please, don't treat this like a discussion question, I'm looking for direct answers: Yes / No, because... I work on a financial company and I'm needing a tool for email archiving and auditing. The compliance sector is asking for it and I have to provide it. I've searched and found two solutions: MailStore (commercial, Windows only) and Enkive (open source, very poor UI and lack of features). I'm using Postfix as MTA and Courier for IMAP/POP access. I'm almost deciding to write it myself, I have the knowledge needed, but I'm wondering right now if it's worth to put (a lot) more hours to make it open source and user friendly. So my question is, have you ever had the same need? Would this be a helpful solution? Is there any other good tool that I haven't found? Thank you!

• Apache url rewrite to Nginx

  i work on a little php platform and my server is nginx. The first version of this php site was developed for Apache server. I need to upgrade the site and to migrate it to nginx server. The problem is url rewriting. I have this simple url rewrite rules in my Apache server: RewriteEngine On RewriteBase /simple-php/ RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d [NC] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ viewpost.php?id=$1 [QSA,L] I can't "translate" this to nginx rewrite syntax. Can anybody help me? P.S. I can read both documentations, but i have not this time, just need fast solution. Thanks!

• MS Analysis Services OLAP API for Python

  I am looking for a way to connect to a MS Analysis Services OLAP cube, run MDX queries, and pull the results into Python. In other words, exactly what Excel does. Is there a solution in Python that would let me do that? Someone with a similar question going pointed to Django's ORM. As much as I like the framework, this is not what I am looking for. I am also not looking for a way to pull rows and aggregate them -- that's what Analysis Services is for in the first place. Ideas? Thanks.

  I am looking for a way to get the dimensions of a remote image file without having to save it to the hard drive -- I am trying to skimp on the I/O requests. Basically something like PHP's getimagesize() function. I did try something like this: print Image.open(urllib2.urlopen(src)).size but PIL wants a file handle that has a seek() method. Any ideas?
