  • Ubuntu Unity (64-bit) Bugs on Nvidia dual screen [closed]

    - by Kristofer
On my work computer I have upgraded 10.04 to 10.10 and now to 11.04. Upgrades have mostly worked well and the dual screen setup is almost working. There are however a couple of annoying bugs which I tried to report but the bug reporting tool told me to ask about the bugs here. Here's what I have found: Auto-hide stops working. It doesn't seem to matter which application is maximised/covering the dock, it just stays on top. I have tested changing the autohide settings with no result. Scenario: One maximised window on each screen. If I now try to drag the window that doesn't have focus by dragging the top of the window nothing happens. I can also not give the window focus by clicking the top bar, I have to click inside the window and then I can drag the window. If I unmaximise the window with focus it does work and I can both change focus and drag the window directly by clicking the top of the maximised window. Any bug fixes coming for these issues? Any work-arounds?

  • How to change Hibernate´s auto persistance strategy

    - by Kristofer Borgstrom
I just noted that my hibernate entities are automatically persisted to the database (or at least to cache) before I call any save() or update() method. To me this is a pretty strange default behavior but ok, as long as I can disable it, it´s fine. The problem I have is I want to update my entity´s state (from 1 to 2) only if the entity in the database still has the state it had when I retrieved [1] (this is to eliminate concurrency issues when another server is updating this same object). For this reason I have created a custom NamedQuery that will only update the entity if state is 1. So here is some pseudo-code: //Get the entity Entity item = dao.getEntity(); item.getState(); //==1 //Update the entity item.setState(2); //Here is the problem, this effectively changes the state of my entity braking my query that verifies that state is still == 1. dao.customUpdate(item); //Returns 0 rows changes since state != 1. So, how do I make sure the setters don´t change the state in cache/db? Thanks, Kristofer

  • Auto load balancing two node Cluster Hyper-v 2008 R2 enterprise?

    - by Kristofer O
My setup is a 2 node cluster with 72GB ram each and a ~10TB MD3000i Iscsi SAN. I have about 30VMs running I keep about 15 on either server. I do a live migration to the other server if I need to run updates or whatever... Either one of the servers is able of running all VM if needed, but the cpu is pretty high. Here's my issues. I know Hyper-v has a limit of a single Live-migration at a time. But Why doesn't it queue them up to move one at a time? If I multi select I don't get the option to live migrate a one at a time. OR if I'm in the process of Migrating one it will give me an error that it's currently migrating a VM... Is there a button I missed that will tell a Node that it needs to migrate all the VMs elsewhere? Another question, does anyone know whats the best way to load balance VMs based on CPU and/or network utilzation. I have some VMs that don't do much. and some that trash the CPU or network. I'd like to balance it out on both servers if at all possible. and Is there any way to automate it? last question... If I overcommit my Cluster is there a way to tell the cluster that I want certian VMs the be running and to savestate other VMs based on availible system resources? Say when my one node blue screens and the other node begins starting the VMs up. I want the unimportant ones to shutdown or savestate so the important ones can stay running or come back online. Thanks just for reading all that. Any help would be great.

  • CentOS 6.5 new Kernel not active after reboot

    - by Kristofer
Today I was running some yum updates and wanted to verify that everything went through fine by making sure I had a new kernel. To my surprise I noticed that CentOS was still running 2.6.32-431.5.1.el6.x86_64 even though it looked as though 2.6.32-431.23.3.el6 was installed. Indeed 2.6.32-431.23.3.el6 shows up in /etc/grub.conf but not in the upstart boot options. Any ideas why? In the update log it says: ---> Package kernel-firmware.noarch 0:2.6.32-431.5.1.el6 will be updated ---> Package kernel-firmware.noarch 0:2.6.32-431.23.3.el6 will be an update Could this be the reason? What does "will be an update" mean? My /etc/grub.conf: # grub.conf generated by anaconda # # Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file # NOTICE: You have a /boot partition. This means that # all kernel and initrd paths are relative to /boot/, eg. # root (hd0,0) # kernel /vmlinuz-version ro root=/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-root # initrd /initrd-[generic-]version.img #boot=/dev/vda default=0 timeout=5 splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz hiddenmenu password --encrypted $1$auui(i$sODM4ni/Zts9IlMWu.wWF/ title CentOS (2.6.32-431.23.3.el6.x86_64) root (hd0,0) kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.32-431.23.3.el6.x86_64 ro root=/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-root rd_NO_LUKS LANG=en_US.UTF-8 KEYBOARDTYPE=pc KEYTABLE=sv-latin1 rd_NO_MD rd_LVM_LV=VolGroup00/swap SYSFONT=latarcyrheb-sun16 crashkernel=auto rd_LVM_LV=VolGroup00/root rd_NO_DM rhgb quiet rhgb quiet audit=1 initrd /initramfs-2.6.32-431.23.3.el6.x86_64.img title CentOS (2.6.32-431.5.1.el6.x86_64) root (hd0,0) kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.32-431.5.1.el6.x86_64 ro root=/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-root rd_NO_LUKS LANG=en_US.UTF-8 KEYBOARDTYPE=pc KEYTABLE=sv-latin1 rd_NO_MD rd_LVM_LV=VolGroup00/swap SYSFONT=latarcyrheb-sun16 crashkernel=auto rd_LVM_LV=VolGroup00/root rd_NO_DM rhgb quiet rhgb quiet audit=1 initrd /initramfs-2.6.32-431.5.1.el6.x86_64.img title CentOS (2.6.32-431.el6.x86_64) root (hd0,0) kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.32-431.el6.x86_64 ro root=/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-root rd_NO_LUKS LANG=en_US.UTF-8 KEYBOARDTYPE=pc KEYTABLE=sv-latin1 rd_NO_MD rd_LVM_LV=VolGroup00/swap SYSFONT=latarcyrheb-sun16 crashkernel=auto rd_LVM_LV=VolGroup00/root rd_NO_DM rhgb quiet rhgb quiet audit=1 initrd /initramfs-2.6.32-431.el6.x86_64.img

  • Is it possible to add JPA annotation to superclass instance variables?

    - by Kristofer Borgstrom
Hi, I am creating entities that are the same for two different tables. In order do table mappings etc. different for the two entities but only have the rest of the code in one place - an abstract superclass. The best thing would be to be able to annotate generic stuff such as column names (since the will be identical) in the super class but that does not work because JPA annotations are not inherited by child classes. Here is an example: public abstract class MyAbstractEntity { @Column(name="PROPERTY") //This will not be inherited and is therefore useless here protected String property; public String getProperty() { return this.property; } //setters, hashCode, equals etc. methods } Which I would like to inherit and only specify the child-specific stuff, like annotations: @Entity @Table(name="MY_ENTITY_TABLE") public class MyEntity extends MyAbstractEntity { //This will not work since this field does not override the super class field, thus the setters and getters break. @Column(name="PROPERTY") protected String property; } Any ideas or will I have to create fields, getters and setters in the child classes? Thanks, Kris
