• Super slow time machine backup on my mac

  I just got a new 2TB drive which I'm trying to use as a time machine drive for my mac which has a 1TB drive. On my first time trying to back it up, I'm getting terrible throughput, not even 1GB per day (it's been running for 36 hours now). I erased the disk and tried to copy a large file to it and got the same slow speed. What can I do to diagnose this? Are there any tools which can inspect the disk and tell me if it's messed up? Thanks!

  Here is a snippet of javascript for loading a script onto a given page asynchronously. I was wondering if there was anything wrong with it? Can it be improved? I haven't played with this yet, but some things I'm worried about are: - cross browser support - when script.readyState is true, will the old version of that function get clobbered? - can i always count on there being a head or body element?   I just discovered the "box-sizing: border-box" css property which solves a bunch of cross browser layout problems for me. The only issue I now have is that ie7 doesn't seem to support it. Is there a hack to get ie7 to support it?

  How can I tell if a given javascript function will work across browsers? For instance, I want to use String.trim() and I see that it works in Firefox, but will it work in all the other major browsers? I imagine there is a good doc online somewhere, but I can't find it.

• How can I prevent javascript errors in my selenium tests from hanging my build system?

  We are having a problem with our selenium tests which run in IE on a virtual machine. Whenever there is a javascript error, a popup shows up and puts our system into a 'stuck' state - a user has to go clear that and restart the selenium test run. Is there a way to prevent the javascript error popup from putting the system into its stuck state? Would setting window.error be of any help here?
