  • LPCSTR, TCHAR, String

    - by user285327
    I am use next type of strings: LPCSTR, TCHAR, String i want to convert: 1) from TCHAR to LPCSTR 2) from String to char I convert from TCHAR to LPCSTR by that code: RunPath = TEXT("C:\\1"); LPCSTR Path = (LPCSTR)RunPath; From String to char i convert by that code: SaveFileDialog^ saveFileDialog1 = gcnew SaveFileDialog; saveFileDialog1->Title = "?????????? ?????-????????"; saveFileDialog1->Filter = "bck files (*.bck)|*.bck"; saveFileDialog1->RestoreDirectory = true; pin_ptr<const wchar_t> wch = TEXT(""); if ( saveFileDialog1->ShowDialog() == System::Windows::Forms::DialogResult::OK ) { wch = PtrToStringChars(saveFileDialog1->FileName); } else return; ofstream os(wch, ios::binary); My problem is that when i set "Configuration Properties - General Character Set in "Use Multi-Byte Character Set" the first part of code work correctly. But the second part of code return error C2440. When i set "Configuration Properties - General Character Set in "Use Unicode" the second part of code work correctly. But the first part of code return the only first character from TCHAR to LPCSTR.

  • error C2440: 'initializing' : cannot convert from 'const wchar_t [9]' to 'LPCSTR'

    - by numerical25
    When I add the following to my code. // Define the input layout D3D10_INPUT_ELEMENT_DESC layout[] = { { L"POSITION", 0, DXGI_FORMAT_R32G32B32_FLOAT, 0, 0, D3D10_INPUT_PER_VERTEX_DATA, 0 }, }; UINT numElements = sizeof(layout)/sizeof(layout[0]); I get the following error 1>c:\users\numerical25\desktop\intro todirectx\msdntutorials\tutorial0\tutorial\tutorial\main.cpp(43) : error C2440: 'initializing' : cannot convert from 'const wchar_t [9]' to 'LPCSTR' The error points straight to that line of code. if i remove the code, everything compiles correctly.

  • How do I convert a System::IO::Stream^ to an LPCSTR for PlaySound?

    - by Jon Cage
    I'm trying to embed and then play back a .wav file in a C++/CLI app but all the examples I've seen which use PlaySound are in VB. I can't see how to get froma Stream^ to the LPCSTR which PlaySound requires: System::IO::Stream^ s = Assembly::GetExecutingAssembly()->GetManifestResourceStream ("Ping.wav"); LPCSTR buf = s->????; PlaySound(buf, NULL, SND_ASYNC|SND_MEMORY|SND_NOWAIT); I guess I need some sort of horrible .net memory conversion magic.

  • C++ MFC how to compare LPCTSTR in a if statement?

    - by user1078510
    I have the following code: LPCTSTR strPermission = Method(); if (strPermission == L"0") { return true; } else { return false; } While debugging I can see that strPermission does equal "0", yet when I compare it like in the if statement it always returns false. The only thing I can think of is that it is comparing the memory address of the variable rather than the variable value. How do I compare strPermission to L"0" so that it would return true if strPermission equals "0". Thank you!

  • Any side effect of not using USES_CONVERSION

    - by Yan Cheng CHEOK
    Recently, I have a utilities function of // T2CA #include "ATLCONV.H" std::string Utils::CString2String(const CString& cString) { #if _MSC_VER > 1200 // Convert a TCHAR string to a LPCSTR // construct a std::string using the LPCSTR input CT2CA tmp(cString); std::string strStd (tmp); #else // Deprecated in VC2008. // construct a std::string using the LPCSTR input std::string strStd (T2CA (cString)); #endif return strStd; } I do several simple test it seems work fine. However, when I google around, I see most usage of T2CA in VC6, before they call, they will invoke USES_CONVERSION; Is there any thing I had missed out? Shall I invoke my function by : #else // Deprecated in VC2008. // construct a std::string using the LPCSTR input USES_CONVERSION; std::string strStd (T2CA (cString)); #endif

  • Convert CString to string (VC6)

    - by Yan Cheng CHEOK
    I want to convert CString to string. (Yup. I know what am I doing. I know the returned string will be incorrect, if CString value range is outside ANSI, but That's Is OK!) The following code will work under VC2008. std::string Utils::CString2String(const CString& cString) { // Convert a TCHAR string to a LPCSTR CT2CA pszConvertedAnsiString (cString); // construct a std::string using the LPCSTR input std::string strStd (pszConvertedAnsiString); return strStd; } But VC6 doesn't have CT2CA macro. How I can make the code to work as well in both VC6 and VC2008?

  • Windows 7 dsound.dll load from dll crash

  • "const char *" is incompatible with parameter of type "LPCWSTR" error

    - by N0xus
    I'm trying to incorporate some code from Programming an RTS Game With Direct3D into my game. Before anyone says it, I know the book is kinda old, but it's the particle effects system he creates that I'm trying to use. With his shader class, he intialise it thusly: void SHADER::Init(IDirect3DDevice9 *Dev, const char fName[], int typ) { m_pDevice = Dev; m_type = typ; if(m_pDevice == NULL)return; // Assemble and set the pixel or vertex shader HRESULT hRes; LPD3DXBUFFER Code = NULL; LPD3DXBUFFER ErrorMsgs = NULL; if(m_type == PIXEL_SHADER) hRes = D3DXCompileShaderFromFile(fName, NULL, NULL, "Main", "ps_2_0", D3DXSHADER_DEBUG, &Code, &ErrorMsgs, &m_pConstantTable); else hRes = D3DXCompileShaderFromFile(fName, NULL, NULL, "Main", "vs_2_0", D3DXSHADER_DEBUG, &Code, &ErrorMsgs, &m_pConstantTable); } How ever, this generates the following error: Error 1 error C2664: 'D3DXCompileShaderFromFileW' : cannot convert parameter 1 from 'const char []' to 'LPCWSTR' The compiler states the issue is with fName in the D3DXCompileShaderFromFile line. I know this has something to do with the character set, and my program was already running with a Unicode Character set on the go. I read that to solve the above problem, I need to switch to a multi-byte character set. But, if I do that, I get other errors in my code, like so: Error 2 error C2664: 'D3DXCreateEffectFromFileA' : cannot convert parameter 2 from 'const wchar_t *' to 'LPCSTR' With it being accredited to the following line of code: if(FAILED(D3DXCreateEffectFromFile(m_pD3DDevice9,effectFileName.c_str(),NULL,NULL,0,NULL,&m_pCurrentEffect,&pErrorBuffer))) This if is nested within another if statement checking my effectmap list. Though it is the FAILED word with the red line. Like wise I get the another error with the following line of code: wstring effectFileName = TEXT("Sky.fx"); With the error message being: Error 1 error C2440: 'initializing' : cannot convert from 'const char [7]' to 'std::basic_string<_Elem,_Traits,_Ax' If I change it back to a Uni code character set, I get the original (fewer) errors. Leaving as a multi-byte, I get more errors. Does anyone know of a way I can fix this issue?

  • (win32) What to do when a file remains left open when a remote application crashes or forgets to clo

    - by Stephane R.
    Hi I have not worked so much with files: I am wondering about possible issues with accessing remote files on another computer. What if the distant application crashes and doesn't close the file ? My aim is to use this win32 function: HFILE WINAPI OpenFile(LPCSTR lpFileName, LPOFSTRUCT lpReOpenBuff, UINT uStyle); Using the flag OF_SHARE_EXCLUSIVE assures me that any concurrent access will be denied (because several machines are writing to this file from time to time). But what if the file is left open ? (application crash for example ?) How to put the file back to normal ?

  • Calling unmanaged dll from C#. Take 2

    I have written a c# program that calls a c++ dll that echoes the commandline args to a file When the c++ is called using the rundll32 command it displays the commandline args no problem, however when it is called from within the c# it doesnt. I asked this question to try and solve my problem, but I have modified it my test environment and I think it is worth asking a new question. • HttpSendRequest not getting latest file from server

    - by Doug Kavendek
    I am having an issue with my HTTP requests in my app, such that if the remote file is the same size as the local file (even though its modified time is different, as its contents have been changed), attempts to download it return quickly and the newer file is not downloaded. In short, the process I am following is: Setting up an HTTP connection with the INTERNET_FLAG_RESYNCHRONIZE flag and calling HttpSendRequest(); then checking the HTTP status code and finding it to be "200". If the remote file is updated, but remains the same size as the local copy: The local file is unchanged after running the app. If I call HttpQueryInfo() with HTTP_QUERY_LAST_MODIFIED after sending the request, it gives me the actual last modified time of the server's file, which I can see is different from the local file I am trying to have it overwrite. If the remote file is updated, and the file size becomes different from the local copy: It is downloaded and overwrites the local copy as expected. Here's a fairly abridged version of the code, to cut out helpers and error checking: // szAppName = our app name HINTERNET hInternetHandle = InternetOpen( szAppName, INTERNET_OPEN_TYPE_PRECONFIG, NULL, NULL, 0 ); // szServerName = our server name hInternetHandle = InternetConnect( hInternetHandle, szServerName, INTERNET_DEFAULT_HTTP_PORT, NULL, NULL, INTERNET_SERVICE_HTTP, NULL, 0 ); // szPath = the file to download LPCSTR aszDefault[2] = { "*/*", NULL }; DWORD dwFlags = 0 | INTERNET_FLAG_IGNORE_REDIRECT_TO_HTTP | INTERNET_FLAG_IGNORE_REDIRECT_TO_HTTPS | INTERNET_FLAG_KEEP_CONNECTION | INTERNET_FLAG_NO_AUTH | INTERNET_FLAG_NO_AUTO_REDIRECT | INTERNET_FLAG_NO_COOKIES | INTERNET_FLAG_NO_UI | INTERNET_FLAG_RESYNCHRONIZE; HINTERNET hHandle = HttpOpenRequest( hInternetHandle, "GET", szPath, NULL, NULL, aszDefault, dwFlags, 0 ); DWORD dwTimeOut = 10 * 1000; // In milliseconds InternetSetOption( hInternetHandle, INTERNET_OPTION_CONNECT_TIMEOUT, &dwTimeOut, sizeof( dwTimeOut ) ); InternetSetOption( hInternetHandle, INTERNET_OPTION_RECEIVE_TIMEOUT, &dwTimeOut, sizeof( dwTimeOut ) ); InternetSetOption( hInternetHandle, INTERNET_OPTION_SEND_TIMEOUT, &dwTimeOut, sizeof( dwTimeOut ) ); DWORD dwRetries = 5; InternetSetOption( hInternetHandle, INTERNET_OPTION_CONNECT_RETRIES, &dwRetries, sizeof( dwRetries ) ); HttpSendRequest( hInternetHandle, NULL, 0, NULL, 0 ); Since I have found I can query the remote file's last modified time, and find it to be accurate, I know it's actually getting to the server. I thought that specifying INTERNET_FLAG_RESYNCHRONIZE would force the file to resynch if it's out of date. Do I have it all wrong? Is this just how it's supposed to work?

  • FILE_NOT_FOUND when trying to open COM port C++

    - by Moutabreath
    I am trying to open a com port for reading and writing using C++ but I can't seem to pass the first stage of actually opening it. I get an INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE on the handle with GetLastError FILE_NOT_FOUND. I have searched around the web for a couple of days I'm fresh out of ideas. I have searched through all the questions regarding COM on this website too. I have scanned through the existing ports (or so I believe) to get the name of the port right. I also tried combinations of _T("COM1") with the slashes, without the slashes, with colon, without colon and without the _T I'm using windows 7 on 64 bit machine. this is the code i got I'll be glad for any input on this void SendToCom(char* data, int len) { DWORD cbNeeded = 0; DWORD dwPorts = 0; EnumPorts(NULL, 1, NULL, 0, &cbNeeded, &dwPorts); //What will be the return value BOOL bSuccess = FALSE; LPCSTR COM1 ; BYTE* pPorts = static_cast<BYTE*>(malloc(cbNeeded)); bSuccess = EnumPorts(NULL, 1, pPorts, cbNeeded, &cbNeeded, &dwPorts); if (bSuccess){ PORT_INFO_1* pPortInfo = reinterpret_cast<PORT_INFO_1*>(pPorts); for (DWORD i=0; i<dwPorts; i++) { //If it looks like "COMX" then size_t nLen = _tcslen(pPortInfo->pName); if (nLen > 3) { if ((_tcsnicmp(pPortInfo->pName, _T("COM"), 3) == 0) ){ COM1 =pPortInfo->pName; //COM1 ="\\\\.\\COM1"; HANDLE m_hCommPort = CreateFile( COM1 , GENERIC_READ|GENERIC_WRITE, // access ( read and write) 0, // (share) 0:cannot share the COM port NULL, // security (None) OPEN_EXISTING, // creation : open_existing FILE_FLAG_OVERLAPPED, // we want overlapped operation NULL // no templates file for COM port... ); if (m_hCommPort==INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE) { DWORD err = GetLastError(); if (err == ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND) { MessageBox(hWnd,"ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND",NULL,MB_ABORTRETRYIGNORE); } else if(err == ERROR_INVALID_NAME) { MessageBox(hWnd,"ERROR_INVALID_NAME",NULL,MB_ABORTRETRYIGNORE); } else { MessageBox(hWnd,"unkown error",NULL,MB_ABORTRETRYIGNORE); } } else{ WriteAndReadPort(m_hCommPort,data); } } pPortInfo++; } } } }

  • 42 passed to TerminateProcess, sometimes GetExitCodeProcess returns 0

    - by Emil
    After I get a handle returned by CreateProcess, I call TerminateProcess, passing 42 for the process exit code. Then, I use WaitForSingleObject for the process to terminate, and finally I call GetExitCodeProcess. None of the function calls report errors. The child process is an infinite loop and does not terminate on its own. The problem is that sometimes GetExitCodeProcess returns 42 for the exit code (as it should) and sometimes it returns 0. Any idea why? #include <string> #include <sstream> #include <iostream> #include <assert.h> #include <windows.h> void check_call( bool result, char const * call ); #define CHECK_CALL(call) check_call(call,#call); int main( int argc, char const * argv[] ) { if( argc>1 ) { assert( !strcmp(argv[1],"inf") ); for(;;) { } } int err=0; for( int i=0; i!=200; ++i ) { STARTUPINFO sinfo; ZeroMemory(&sinfo,sizeof(STARTUPINFO)); sinfo.cb=sizeof(STARTUPINFO); PROCESS_INFORMATION pe; char cmd_line[32768]; strcat(strcpy(cmd_line,argv[0])," inf"); CHECK_CALL((CreateProcess(0,cmd_line,0,0,TRUE,0,0,0,&sinfo,&pe)!=0)); CHECK_CALL((CloseHandle(pe.hThread)!=0)); CHECK_CALL((TerminateProcess(pe.hProcess,42)!=0)); CHECK_CALL((WaitForSingleObject(pe.hProcess,INFINITE)==WAIT_OBJECT_0)); DWORD ec=0; CHECK_CALL((GetExitCodeProcess(pe.hProcess,&ec)!=0)); CHECK_CALL((CloseHandle(pe.hProcess)!=0)); err += (ec!=42); } std::cout << err; return 0; } std::string get_last_error_str( DWORD err ) { std::ostringstream s; s << err; LPVOID lpMsgBuf=0; if( FormatMessageA( FORMAT_MESSAGE_ALLOCATE_BUFFER|FORMAT_MESSAGE_FROM_SYSTEM|FORMAT_MESSAGE_IGNORE_INSERTS, 0, err, MAKELANGID(LANG_NEUTRAL,SUBLANG_DEFAULT), (LPSTR)&lpMsgBuf, 0, 0) ) { assert(lpMsgBuf!=0); std::string msg; try { std::string((LPCSTR)lpMsgBuf).swap(msg); } catch( ... ) { } LocalFree(lpMsgBuf); if( !msg.empty() && msg[msg.size()-1]=='\n' ) msg.resize(msg.size()-1); if( !msg.empty() && msg[msg.size()-1]=='\r' ) msg.resize(msg.size()-1); s << ", \"" << msg << '"'; } return s.str(); } void check_call( bool result, char const * call ) { assert(call && *call); if( !result ) { std::cerr << call << " failed.\nGetLastError:" << get_last_error_str(GetLastError()) << std::endl; exit(2); } }

  • Run-Time Check Failure #2 - Stack around the variable 'indices' was corrupted.

    - by numerical25
    well I think I know what the problem is. I am just having a hard time debugging it. I am working with the directx api and I am trying to generate a plane along the x and z axis according to a book I have. The problem is when I am creating my indices. • Issues with HLSL and lighting

    - by numerical25
    I am trying figure out whats going on with my HLSL code but I have no way of debugging it cause C++ gives off no errors. The application just closes when I run it. I am trying to add lighting to a 3d plane I made. below is my HLSL. The problem consist when my Pixel shader method returns the struct "outColor" . If I change the return value back to the struct "psInput" , everything goes back to working again. My light vectors and colors are at the top of the fx file // PS_INPUT - input variables to the pixel shader // This struct is created and fill in by the // vertex shader cbuffer Variables { matrix Projection; matrix World; float TimeStep; }; struct PS_INPUT { float4 Pos : SV_POSITION; float4 Color : COLOR0; float3 Normal : TEXCOORD0; float3 ViewVector : TEXCOORD1; }; float specpower = 80.0f; float3 camPos = float3(0.0f, 9.0, -256.0f); float3 DirectLightColor = float3(1.0f, 1.0f, 1.0f); float3 DirectLightVector = float3(0.0f, 0.602f, 0.70f); float3 AmbientLightColor = float3(1.0f, 1.0f, 1.0f); /*************************************** * Lighting functions ***************************************/ /********************************* * CalculateAmbient - * inputs - * vKa material's reflective color * lightColor - the ambient color of the lightsource * output - ambient color *********************************/ float3 CalculateAmbient(float3 vKa, float3 lightColor) { float3 vAmbient = vKa * lightColor; return vAmbient; } /********************************* * CalculateDiffuse - * inputs - * material color * The color of the direct light * the local normal * the vector of the direct light * output - difuse color *********************************/ float3 CalculateDiffuse(float3 baseColor, float3 lightColor, float3 normal, float3 lightVector) { float3 vDiffuse = baseColor * lightColor * saturate(dot(normal, lightVector)); return vDiffuse; } /********************************* * CalculateSpecular - * inputs - * viewVector * the direct light vector * the normal * output - specular highlight *********************************/ float CalculateSpecular(float3 viewVector, float3 lightVector, float3 normal) { float3 vReflect = reflect(lightVector, normal); float fSpecular = saturate(dot(vReflect, viewVector)); fSpecular = pow(fSpecular, specpower); return fSpecular; } /********************************* * LightingCombine - * inputs - * ambient component * diffuse component * specualr component * output - phong color color *********************************/ float3 LightingCombine(float3 vAmbient, float3 vDiffuse, float fSpecular) { float3 vCombined = vAmbient + vDiffuse + fSpecular.xxx; return vCombined; } //////////////////////////////////////////////// // Vertex Shader - Main Function /////////////////////////////////////////////// PS_INPUT VS(float4 Pos : POSITION, float4 Color : COLOR, float3 Normal : NORMAL) { PS_INPUT psInput; float4 newPosition; newPosition = Pos; newPosition.y = sin((newPosition.x * TimeStep) + (newPosition.z / 3.0f)) * 5.0f; // Pass through both the position and the color psInput.Pos = mul(newPosition , Projection ); psInput.Color = Color; psInput.ViewVector = normalize(camPos - psInput.Pos); return psInput; } /////////////////////////////////////////////// // Pixel Shader /////////////////////////////////////////////// //Anthony!!!!!!!!!!! Reason I am showing this is because it is pretty much what creates the surface normals for my shaders to evaluate. for the lighting for(int z=0; z < NUM_ROWS; ++z) { for(int x = 0; x < NUM_COLS; ++x) { int curVertex = x + (z * NUM_VERTSX); indices[curIndex] = curVertex; indices[curIndex + 1] = curVertex + NUM_VERTSX; indices[curIndex + 2] = curVertex + 1; D3DXVECTOR3 v0 = vertices[indices[curIndex]].pos; D3DXVECTOR3 v1 = vertices[indices[curIndex + 1]].pos; D3DXVECTOR3 v2 = vertices[indices[curIndex + 2]].pos; D3DXVECTOR3 normal; D3DXVECTOR3 cross; D3DXVec3Cross(&cross, &D3DXVECTOR3(v2 - v0),&D3DXVECTOR3(v1 - v0)); D3DXVec3Normalize(&normal, &cross); vertices[indices[curIndex]].normal = normal; vertices[indices[curIndex + 1]].normal = normal; vertices[indices[curIndex + 2]].normal = normal; indices[curIndex + 3] = curVertex + 1; indices[curIndex + 4] = curVertex + NUM_VERTSX; indices[curIndex + 5] = curVertex + NUM_VERTSX + 1; v0 = vertices[indices[curIndex + 3]].pos; v1 = vertices[indices[curIndex + 4]].pos; v2 = vertices[indices[curIndex + 5]].pos; D3DXVec3Cross(&cross, &D3DXVECTOR3(v2 - v0),&D3DXVECTOR3(v1 - v0)); D3DXVec3Normalize(&normal, &cross); vertices[indices[curIndex + 3]].normal = normal; vertices[indices[curIndex + 4]].normal = normal; vertices[indices[curIndex + 5]].normal = normal; curIndex += 6; } } and below is my c++ code, in it's entirety. showing the drawing and also calling on the passes #include "MyGame.h" //#include "CubeVector.h" /* This code sets a projection and shows a turning cube.
