• What technologies/tools do people use to implement live websites ?

  Hi, I have the following situation: -I have a server A hooked up to a piece of hardware that sends values and information out of every second. Programs on the server machine can read these values. This server A is in a very remote location so Internet connection is very slow and not reliable but the connection does exist. Let's say it's a weather station in the Arctic. -Users from the home location want to monitorize the weather values somehow. Well, the users can use a remote desktop connection the server A but that would be too too slow. My idea is somehow to have a website on a web server (let's call the webserver - B and B is in a home location ) and make the server A connect to the server B and somehow send values and the web application reads the values and displays them....... but how to do such a system ?? I know I can use MySQL and have the server A connect to a SQL server on server B and send INSERT queries and have the web application running on server B constantly read from the SQL server but I think that would be way way too slow and I think there has to be a better solution. Any ideas ? BTW. The users should be able to send information to the weather station from the website as well ( so an ADMIN user should be allowed to shut down the weather station from the website or whatever) Best regards, MadSeb

• WPF DataGrid extended "copy and paste"

  Hi, How can I make the WPF DataGrid have some sort of improved "copy and paste" where I can select a single cell , copy using Ctrl-C , select a bunch of cells of columns and paste using Ctrl-V ??? So for example...in the image bellow ...I want to be able to copy the "Tech" word to all the highlighted cells just by a Ctrl-C on tech, a select of the cells, and a Ctrl-V ... Regards, Seb

• C# ProgressBar design pattern

  Hi, I'm working on a database upgrader application. The upgrader updates the schema of a database ( adds new columns, renames columns , adds new tables, new views to an existing database by executing SQL statements ). When a user wants to upgrade from version 1.0 to 2.0 , "Upgrader" objects are taken from an object factory and the "Execute" method of each "Upgrader" is called. The GUI of the application has a progress bar and each time an upgrader object performs a SQL statement the progress bar gets incremented. while (!version.Equal(CurrentVersion)) { IUpgrader myUpgrader = UpgraderFactory.GetUpgrader(version); myUpgrader.Execute(UpgradedFile,progressbar); version.Increment(); } My question is very simple : how should the upgrader object communicate with the progressbar. In the code above, the upgrader object is given direct access to the progressbar but I'm wondering if some better way of doing this or better design pattern exists. Regards, Seb

  Hi, Model: I have a model in which one Installation can contain multiple "Computer Systems". Database: The table Installations has two columns Name and Description. The table ComputerSystems has three columsn Name, Description and InstallationId. • Design Pattern for "Context Sensitive" Right Click Menu

  Hi, What is a design pattern I can use for generating "context-sensitive" right click menus ? I have in mind a "Windows Explorer"-like application where a user can right click on a folder and get a list of menu items but right click on a drive and get a totally different list. • Launch Excel from C# and close it on "Save"
