Fetch only one RSS item with Magpie RSS

Hello, I'm using Magpie RSS to fetch a feed, and display it, but How can I display only the latest post ()? Thanks.

Best way to fetch remote RSS through authenticated proxy and parse it

I'm trying to get a remote RSS through proxy and parse it. I'm using magpierss, but it doesn't allow reaching internet through a proxy (or I don't know how to do it). I assume the option is to, first, fetch the rss with curl functions, that allows proxy authenticating, but .... are there any class to do this in a easy way, or ... does magpie support using proxy, and how? Turned off my computer and o it's opened up in grub. How do I tell it to boot into lubuntu?

It's just a commandline. I have tried my usual trick of sticking a usb with lubuntu in there to see if I can boot from my usb but I get a boot error (I normally wouldn't using that usb). GNU grub version 2.00-7ubuntu11 also just using basic things I know I hits ls then tried boot hd0 but it says: you need to load the kernel first I have no idea how to do this. I looked at the commands and most of them hve obscure names that are not helpful. UPDATE: I hit exit and that allowed be to boot from usb. Hopefully I will be able to find what I need to install to get it booting normally again from there.

issue with vmd install not working any more. lubuntu 12.10

I had vmd working on my lubuntu 64 bit but all of a sudden I was getting errors when I tried to run it. I tried reinstalling it but no joy. The error I now get when I try to run rlwrap: No match. I don't use make unless I have to so I don't know all that much about it. I have removing vmd completely to see if that helped. I tried the suggestions it made (I am sorry, I can't remember the details but it was moaning about CUDA and my graphic drivers for a while. I had not updated it or anything. It was fine until I went away from the computer and came back to it like that. If nobody can help I will try reinstalling my system and see if that helps.

what is the purpose of the files in this directory: /var/lib/apt/lists?

linux lubuntu HD4000 intel ivy-bridge 8gb 1600 ram. I am getting a duplicate entry error message from synaptic package manager and it says the problem is there. I am wondering a few things: What this directory is. Whether it safe to simply delete the offending duplicates from there. Whether this is a useful new discovery... Is this where all the packages I have no use for end up and something I can edit to suit my fancy in the long run? It would be nice to be able to reduce the clutter in my package manager. Especially find a way to get rid of all the 32 bit stuff or older versions of programs I have downloaded manually elsewhere. I had meant to post this in linux! So if this is wrong place let me know and I will move it there!

Create an RSS feed from Existing RSS

Im using the Twitter API to read the Favorites RSS, it generates the following output: http://vl3.co.uk/favs/getfavs.php I'm not sure why this file seems to be incorrect, doesnt come up in my RSS reader or render correctly in the browser. Can anyone shed any light on this? If the output is not valid RSS how can I make it so? Secondly I'd like to cache the RSS feed to then use something like Magpie RSS Parser.

Is Linq having a mind-numbing effect on .NET programmers?

A lot of us started seeing this phenomenon with jQuery about a year ago when people started asking how to do absolutely insane things like retrieve the query string with jQuery. The difference between the library (jQuery) and the language (JavaScript) is apparently lost on many programmers, and results in a lot of inappropriate, convoluted code being written where it is not necessary. Maybe it's just my imagination, but I swear I'm starting to see an uptick in the number of questions where people are asking to do similarly insane things with Linq, like find ranges in a sorted array. I can't get over how thoroughly inappropriate the Linq extensions are for solving that problem, but more importantly the fact that the author just assumed that the ideal solution would involve Linq without actually thinking about it (as far as I can tell). It seems that we are repeating history, breeding a new generation of .NET programmers who can't tell the difference between the language (C#/VB.NET) and the library (Linq). What is responsible for this phenomenon? Is it just hype? Magpie tendencies? Has Linq picked up a reputation as a form of magic, where instead of actually writing code you just have to utter the right incantation? I'm hardly satisfied with those explanations but I can't really think of anything else. More importantly, is it really a problem, and if so, what's the best way to help enlighten these people?

Turn RSS into array, explode the 'description' and insert words into MySQL table one per row

I have only recently gotten into php and MySQL and I want to take an RSS feed, turn it into an array, take only the description part of the XML, explode it and insert it into a table on a MySQL base. I feel like this should be possible, but is a little over my head right now. I tried using magpie as a parser, but if possible I want to do it in simpler php code. The result I am looking for would take a description "This is a cat" and insert it into a table with two fields ID term 1 This 2 is 3 a 4 cat I've been stumped on this for a couple days. Any help would be great.

Help with an RSS Feed

Hi Everyone! I've spent ages on this, all I'm trying to do is extract the "title" contents from an rss feed, everything else can be ignored. I've looked into simplepie, magpie and all that stuff, but I feel its kind of overkill for what I need to do. I realise there are google gadgets that are made that can do this, but I didn't want all the google logo stuff, and I wanted to personally make this. theres a whole bunch of unneeded tags thats coming in from the rss feed all I need is the title tag, it looks like this <title> My Title 3.0 </title> My server has PHP 5+ so I know I can use some of these simple xml functions which look promising. so far I've got <?php $blogfeed = file_get_contents("http://myblog.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss"); echo $blogfeed; ?> And it gives me all the data, I was thinking of running through it with strpos and searching for <title> but is there any easier way to do this?? Thanks alot!
