  • What changes does McAfee make to the registry?

    I'm wondering if anyone knows exactly what McAfee does to the registry. I've got a computer on which JavaScript no longer works. I read online that McAfee replaces the script interpreter dll path in the registry to point to its own dll, which filters, and in turn calls the official "jscript.dll". I found multiples of these in the registry, and corrected them, but it still hasn't fixed the problem - JavaScript still does not work. I'm considering just reinstalling, and then re-uninstalling McAfee to fix it. However, for the record, I still want to know if anyone has, or can provide an online list of all the changes McAfee makes to the registry.     Hi All I have a computer with windows XP service pack 3 as an operating system.This computer is in a network with McAfee update server.This server will install and update McAfee client in all computers in that network.When I install and running 'Eset Nod32 Smart Security (AntiVirus)',computer is getting hanged. (Not works in Safe Mode). How can I install both Nod32 and McAfee on this network ?

  • Updating Mcafee Group Shield on Exchange Server

    So I don't actually have a problem yet, but I might. You see my fathers company have 10 computers and an exchange server with Mcafee Group Shield. lately they've had issues with mails from customers being blocked. I found both the problem and the solution: Mcafee update so basicly update their Mcafee group shield to the newest service pack and we are all back in buisness.. while I have some limited exchange experience and AD too. I don't have any Mcafee experience. I don't wanna crash their server for a week and have them need to get someone to recover it. So my question in here.. is it supposedly as easy as to click an 'update' button and to reboot your server.. or are there several issues I need to be aware about..? Maybe there is some common issue that goes with updating antivirus on an exchange server that I don't know about..

    I am trying to disable a McAfee Real-Time Protection service, but if I go into Services/Properties, then try to set it to Manual or Disable - it says that unable to open service McShield for writing on Local Computer. Error 5. Access is denied. I've tried logging in as an Admin, to no avail. I've tried resetting permissions in the registry to the key where the McAfee service is described...nothing helped. Logging in with Safe Mode did not help either. How can I disable this service? Is there a way to disable a service before even getting into Windows? P.S. Uninstalling McAfee is not an option.

  • McAfee Security Scan appears out of thin air

    Hi, We have a Windows Server 2008 Standard edition server and when we logged in today a service, McAfee Security Scan, had been installed. I checked all the logs, but can't find any trace of who or how this install was initiated. We already use Nod32 so there would be no reason for us to install McAfee. Any idea how this happens? I did look for other installs like Flash or the like, but didn't see anything. Thanks Jacques

  • Optimum configuration of McAfee for Servers

    Our corporate standard is McAfee Enterprise, unfortunately this is non-negotiable. On two types of servers I'm responsible for, SQL & Web, we have noticed major performance issues with the corporate standard setup. Max scan time 45sec One policy for all processes Scan ALL files on write, read and open for backup Heuristics: Find unknown programs, trojans and macros Detect unwanted programs Exclude: EVT, LDF, LOG, MDF, VMD, , windows file protection) This of course still causes major slowdowns. IIS .NET recompiles are slow especially with SharePoint, SQL backups and restores, SQL Analysis Services, Integration Services and temp data from them as well. I have looked from time to time, for some best practices on setting up McAfee of SQL & SQL Analysis Service, SQL Integration Service, Visual Studio, Sharepoint, and .NET web servers in general. How do people setup McAfee enterprise on their corporate serves keeping security intact, but affecting performance as minimally as possible? Has anyone run across white papers on these setups? Obviously some are case by case, but there must be some best practices out there somewhere.

  • Install McAfee ePO Agent via Group Policy

    We have recently deployed ePO to our infrastructure, but the Agent will not deploy to all systems. We suspect this is a firewall issue as disabing Windows Firewall generally makes it work. We have decided to install the Agent via Group Policy to make sure all systems get the it and then ePO will deploy VirusScan on reboot. Following the manual I have run: Framepkg.exe /gengpomsi /SiteInfo=<sharedpath>\SiteList.xml /FrmInstLogLoc=<localtempDir> \<filename>.log and then created the GPO, but it never installs. Has anyone managed to get this working? Or maybe they can suggest a resolution for the failed installs of Agent deploy from ePO?

  • McAfee ePolicy-Orchestrator (ePO) - policy ownership by groups?

    Is there a way to grant ownership of an ePO policy to a group? Alternatively, is there a permission that can be set that would allow owners of an ePO policy to add other owners to that policy without making them ePO admin? In the case I'm looking at, ePO is deployed within a large heterogeneous organization with a large amount of delegation in the form of create/modify policy rights to allow multiple IT departments to customize to their needs for their sections of the system tree. The problem is that the policies are owned by the creator of the policy. This causes problems when they leave (staff turnover) or when other people on their teams need the ability to modify the existing policy. Unfortunately, as far as I can see, only someone who is an ePO admin can change the owners. Even the owner of the policy cannot add other owners (unless they are also an ePO admin). Ideally, I should be able to assign ownership of a policy to a group - since that would be easier to manage than me or another admin having to continually fix policy ownership or remove orphaned polices. Even just allowing the owners of the polices to add other owners would be sufficient. How are other people handling policy ownership when dealing with a large amount of delegated control of polices? Is there a way to delegate this out without making users full ePO admins?

    Hi, We're experiencing a strange problem with Oracle RAC and McAfee anti-virus. As part of the installation of the Oracle RAC we disable anti virus as directed. We have had our RAC running fine, but when we came to re-enable the AV and reboot we got the BSOD. Abnormal Program Termination (BugCheck, STOP: 0x00000035 (0x8E984678, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000 NO_MORE_IRP_STACK_LOCATIONS Following the standard process of raising this problem with Microsoft they identify the problem and also a fix. Microsoft talk about too many file filter drivers being present and pushing the DFS upper limit beyond the default size. Upping this value, as per msdn, has no impact. We're able to recover from this BSOD by disabling AV. We don't have the problem if we run the AV service manually whilst the system is up. However, if we make the service automatic we fail to boot.   • McAfee VirusScan Enterprise or avast! Free?

    I currently have McAfee VirusScan Enterprise on my computer. This was preinstalled on my PC. (My university did a bulk laptop purchase so I got a sweet deal on my laptop. McAfee was one of the extras that were included.) Apparently, it's getting bad ratings from sites such as Virus Bulletin and AV-Test. Am I better off with avast's free antivirus? Is it worth considering avast! Internet Security? I currently have a three-year license for VirusScan Enterprise. I keep my software up to date using Secunia PSI and I don't click on any suspicious links.

    Hi all, I just installed Windows 7 (MSDN) on a HP Z200. When I install McAfee 8.7i, i get in the Action Center a message that I need to turn on McAfee. When I hit "Turn on", i get the following error message: Please note that this picture has been taken from Google and this is related to another program, not McAfee So McAfee is installed on 4 other Z200 with the same Windows 7. So I'm kinda clueless now. Any takers?
