• Throwing an exception from a BackgroundWorker which calls an async. method (Webrequest)

  Hi, My main application creates a new BackgroundWorker X the DoWork event handler of X calls a method Y of my controller. This method creates the WebRequest (async.) instance and the callback using AsyncCallback. When the response arrives the callback method Z gets called and the content will be analyzed. It can happen that the response has an unwanted content. At that moment callback Z will throw an exception. I want to catch this exception in my main application. I tried it in DoWork and RunWorkerCompleted but nothing can be caught from there. Error in RunWorkerCompletedEventArgs is always null.

• Unicode strings in my C# App are shown with question marks

  Hi, I have a header file in C++/CLR project, which contains some strings in different languages. arabic, english, german, chinese, french, japanese etc... I have a second project written in C#. Here I access the strings stored in the header file of the C++/CLR project. The encoding of the header file is Unicode - Codepage 1200 or UTF-8. the visual studio editor is able to display the strings correctly. At runtime I access these strings and assign them into a local String variable. Here I recognized that many strings are not shown correctly. Doesn't matter if I assign them or not. Accessing the original place (while debugging) shows me all the foreign strings with question marks. Especially chinese, just question marks. Example : "So?e St?ange ?ext in Ch?n?se" (This is not the best example, I know) What is the problem? I read that C# is by default UTF-16, My header file containing the strings is UTF-16 or UTF-8. I must be able to handle strings in different languages. What am I doing wrong?

• Instantiating ServiceController takes sometimes too much time

  Hi, i am creating an instance of ServiceController using a remote/local machine name and the name of the service. When I type sth. like stackoverflow.com as machine name the contructor blocks for a long time and returns an exception. Example: string MachineName = "stackoverflow.com" ServiceController("RemoteRegistry", MachineName ); How can I set here a kind of timeout to cancel this process?

• Can a Backgroundworker proceed working when it reaches the "...Completed" event handler

  Hi, as described in the title. My backgroundworker is doing its job...finishes the first part and calls the ...Completed event handler. Can I tell here my backgroundworker to proceed with another job by doing DoWork -= OldJob DoWork += NewJob also DoWorkCompleted -= OldJobCompleted DoWorkCompleted += NewJobCompleted Is this possible?
