  • Move the Status Bar Web Address Display to the Address Bar

    Is the ability to see the addresses for weblinks the only reason that you keep the Status Bar visible? Now you can hide the Status Bar and move that address display to the Address Bar in Firefox. Before Here is the normal “Status Bar” address display for the weblink we were hovering the mouse over in our browser. That is nice but if you really prefer to keep the “Status Bar” hidden what do you do? Move that display to a better (and definitely more convenient) location. After Once you have the extension installed that is all there is to it…you are ready to go. Notice the address display in “Address Bar”. That is definitely looking nice. Just for fun we temporarily left the “Status Bar” visible as a demonstration while hovering over the link. And then with the “Status Bar” totally disabled…more screen real-estate is always a good thing. Note: The Status Address Bar extension does not show the original address behind shortened URLs. Conclusion If you are looking for an alternate way to see the address behind weblinks and acquire more screen real-estate, then the Status Bar extension will be a wonderful addition to your Firefox Browser.   • Dynamic navigation mesh changes

    I'm currently trying to convert from grids to navigation meshes for pathfinding, since grids are either too coarse for accurate navigation, or too fine to be useful for object tracking. While my map is fairly static, and the navigation mesh could be created in advance, this is somewhat of a tower defense game, where objects can be placed to block paths, so I need a way to recalculate portions of the navigation mesh to allow pathing around them. Is there any existing documentation on good ways to do this? I'm still very new to navigation meshes, so the prospect of modifying them to cut or fill holes sounds daunting.

  • Regular expression to remove one parameter from query string

    I'm looking for a regular expression to remove a single parameter from a query string, and I want to do it in a single regular expression if possible. Say I want to remove the foo parameter. Right now I use this: /&?foo\=[^&]+/ That works as long as foo is not the first parameter in the query string. If it is, then my new query string starts with an ampersand. (For example, "foo=123&bar=456" gives a result of "&bar=456".) Right now, I'm just checking after the regex if the query string starts with ampersand, and chopping it off if it does.   • Progress bar in notification bar

    I have been trying to figure this out for quite some time right now. I've looked all over this site and many others, and can't find anything that works. I simply want icons next to each item in my navigation drawer.     Hello, I am developing a Silverlight client using the provided navigation template for an imageboard I developed. I have a "search" tab which lists all searches for tags which were executed. I also have a show post tab which shows (also in tab-form) posts, opened from the search tab. When I open a post from the search page, it instanciates a new control (of type UserControl) and inserts this into the ShowPost page's tabcontrol. When I switch (or get switched) to the Show Post view the layout is all messed up. The UserControl inside the tab does not stretch in the tab. When I switch tabs back and forth this is strangely fixed. The reason seems to be that the user control gets created there but has no layout to "fit to" until said layout is opened, which is too late then.     I had some broken package problems, and had to reinstall ubuntu-desktop, libqtgui4 and some other system packages. Since then, "some" of my applications are showing menu bar within the window, like this: Some windows like Emacs, vlc are showing such menu bar, while others are working fine (nautilus, terminal still have menu bar on the unity top panel). Is there a way to get it back to the Unity panel?

    I've always have my doubts about navigation menus effect on SEO. You know, the vertical menus on the top that show in every page in the site linking to main sections and subsections. My issue is that if not done dynamically (i.e. after page is loaded or something), from a search engine's point of view it probably looks like a whole bunch of links in the beginning of the page, and links that probably have nothing to do with the page being analyzed, so it's probably not only confusing it, but also giving link 'juice' to the wrong pages or reducing its value. When I've asked SEO people about this, I usually get a "Google is smart, they'll recognize it as a menu and ignore it" response, but I'm not convinced (and the 'Google is smart' argument sounds almost like religion discussion to me). So does it affect SEO negatively or not? Are there any official posts on this topic?

    I have a website in which i use tabs to navigate between pages. For example, page a displays A as an active tab and B and C background tabs. If the visitor gets to the website via page B, i also would like to display to page d, but not a and c. Question: I know i can just create index2 for b for example, so when the visitor gets to b from a, i display a,b,c and index1 when visitor gets to b from d for example. Is that a bad practice? I know double content isn't good, but in which other way can i or should i approach this problem? The tab navigation i designed uses < li and id tag do display active tab, defined in the < body tag.

  • Upgrade to Quantal unity top bar, side bar, and window declorations missing

    I upgraded from 12.04.1 to 12.10 via the Update Manager and the upgrade said it completed successfuly. However after rebooting the unity task bar was missing along with the launch bar and the window declorations. All compiz settings seemed to be purge deleted, and at first bootup it gave me a system error. The desktop exists, and once I remember I messed up the compiz settings and just had to press Ctrl+Alt+F1 and in the virtual terminal type "unity --reset" then "sudo reboot". Everything worked as if i reinstalled the entire operating system. This time it said “Warning no variable set. setting to :0. The reset option is now dupricated”. What am I suppose to do now? I need this fixed as soon as possible because I need a couple of certainly installed programs and the data within them (long story short).

    I am a little stuck. I have created almost everything in the picture below. What I am stuck on is I am trying to figure out how I would set it up so that when a user clicks one of the links it makes the line below become red (after the next page loads). Obviously I would need to use Jquery to detect the page then add inline css, but what I am struggling with is I want this to be as easy as possible so that I can give this template to others and then they can add or remove items as necessary. I was trying to figure out if I could somehow use a li element to do this but I have not found a way yet. Does anyone have any ideas to help me?

  • Site Review: Facebook.com and Blockbuster.com - Navigation Schemes

    After cycling through a list of my favorite sites I decided to select Facebook.com and Blockbuster.com for this  post because I found their navigation schemes very intuitive. Facebook in my opinion took a very simplistic and minimalistic approach when they designed their site and its navigation. For example, when you login to your account you will find on the upper left hand side a generic section of the site common areas to all users like news, messages, events, photos and friends. Below this in a separate navigation menu is a list of applications that a user has elected to access through bookmarks. Finally in the upper right hand corner of the site contains links to administer the user’s account like account settings, public profile, and a link back to the users’ home page. Blockbuster on the other had tried to make site navigation a little more slick by using a menu-submenu approach to navigation where user can click on things like Rent, Buy, On Demand, Games, Stores, and Gifts and a submenu of corresponding items appears below the original menu item. In addition they also took this approach and added categorized lists of movies that they offer on the homepage so that users can click on an item like “DVD Spotlight” and a list of movies represented as actual DVD box cases appear on the user’s screen so they can scroll through the list by using left and right arrows on either side of the images displayed. Both Facebook and Blockbuster have more than one navigation groupings because their respected sites are so large and offer an absorbent amount of features. Because of this reason they have to group the main functionality of information in to logical groups based on their actions they perform and the access to specific information. For example it would not make sense for Facebook to include a particular game you like to play within your account with a section pertaining to account administration. The game link would be completely out of place and really confuse the users experience because the groupings where not logically grouped. In addition I think that Facebook users would benefit if Facebook allowed its users to specify what they want on the general navigation from within their site or at least create a section to show frequently accessed pages or favorite sections. Finally regarding additional navigation, I think blockbuster users really benefit from the submenu system of categorizing data, and if fact Blockbuster even allows them to refine the information they are looking for through the use of secondary submenu systems allowing users to really drill down in to what they are looking for to learn more on. I do not think that having more than one navigation bar on a web page is not confusing for the user. For example if you have a navigation bar at the top of your page and at the bottom will allow users to move around the website easier because they can utilize the navigation closest to where their cursor is on the page. In regards to designers forcing all the navigation in to one navigation bar, I think it would be hard for the user to fully understand what is going on based on the size and complexity of the site they are dealing with. For example Blockbuster has a ton of content that could not easily be put in to one navigation bar. From my experience with both Facebook and Blockbuster, they both do a good job with cross browser compatibility. I have had no issues with either site in IE, Firefox, Chrome, and Safari over the years. In addition, I do not believe that either Facebook or Blockbuster require any additional plug-in to utilize their navigation bars.

  • Retaining expanded/contracted nodes in Word 2010's navigation pane

    I have a lengthy document in Word 2010 which makes copious use of standard header styles. These display hierarchically (and very usefully!) in the navigation pane. But the list of these sections and subsections in the navigation pane is somewhat lengthy, with all nodes being expanded by default. I am now working near the end of the document so every time I open the document I contract the first so many header 1 nodes to compress the list to fit on one screen. I then have direct access to the later sections while still letting me access the earlier sections if needed. The problem is that as soon as I close the document all the customization I did in the navigation pane is lost. Is there any option or setting somewhere that will retain the expanded or contracted state of nodes in the navigation pane?

    I want to have a TabBar controller inside a navigation controller. So that when an item is selected on the first Navigation Controller it pushes the TabBar into view. Inside this tabbar on the first tab is another navigation controller. However I only want one navigation bar. I've come up with 2 ways but not sure which way is better (Ie more acceptable etc)? 1) The first navigation controller isn't actually a navigation controller but to the user it looks like one. So when a cell is selected on it's table view the first navC's view is removed from the superview and the TabBarC's view is added, animation would have to be done manually. 2)The first NavC is actually a NavC and when an item is selected and the TabBar is pushed on to the screen the first NavC's navigationbar is hidden so that the first tab's navigationBar is the only nav bar on screen.

  • Unity bar and Menu bar Gone

    I have a bootable usb stick that has Ubuntu 12.10 on it, so I loaded it onto my computer which is semi old because it was really full and ubuntu is nice software when it works. And all went well until I booted it up the first time and it said that the Compiz thing was missing and I looked that up on the internet and I must have typed 20 different codes into terminal, and nothing seemed to work. Can you please help? I dont know what to do anymore and the only thing I can do it open up terminal because nothing pops up on the screen. Thanks :)

  • iPhone app with tab bar and navigation bar as peers

    I'm trying to write an application that uses a navigation bar and tab bar in what (I'm gathering) is an unusual manner. Basically, I've got several "pages" ("home", "settings", etc) that each have their own tab. I'd also like to have it so that the "home" page is the root view of the navigation bar, and the other pages are the second-level views of the navigation bar. That is, I should be able to navigate to any page by clicking the appropriate tab bar item, and should be able to navigate to the home page from any other page by clicking the navigation bar's back button. Currently, I have a UINavigationBar (through a UINavigationController) and a UITabBar (through a UITabController) as children of a UIView. The various pages' view controllers are set as the tab controller's viewControllers property, and the home page's controller is also set as the navigation controller's root view. Each page view's tag is set to its index in the tab control. I have the following logic in the tab controller's didSelectViewController delegate method: - (void) tabBarController:(UITabBarController*) tabBarController didSelectViewController:(UIViewController*) viewController { if ([navController.viewControllers count] > 1) [navController popViewControllerAnimated:NO]; [navController pushViewController:viewController animated:YES]; } Also, in the navigation controller's didShowViewController delegate method, I have the following code: - (void) navigationController:(UINavigationController *) navigationController didShowViewController:(UIViewController *)viewController animated:(BOOL)animated { tabController.selectedIndex = viewController.view.tag; } The problem that's occurring is that when I run this, the navigation bar, tab bar and home page all display ok, but the tab bar will not respond to input - I cannot select a different tab. I gather it's more usual to have the tab bar as the child of the navigation control, or vice versa. This doesn't seem to fit my approach, because I don't want to have to individually create the subordinate control each time a change occurs in the parent control - eg: recreate tab bar each time the navigation bar changes. Does anyone have suggestions as to what's wrong and how to fix it? I'm probably missing something obvious, but whatever it is I can't seem to find it. Thanks! EDIT: I'm guessing it has something to do with both controller's trying to have ownership of the page controller, but I can't for the life of me figure out a way around it.

  • Zend Navigation add extra id

    I made a menu with zend_navigation, using an ini file. That work well. If I look at the code, i see that zend has added a class, to the ul element. With a name that i use in my ini file. But now I want to add also a id to the ul element.
