• Can't get MySQL to install

  I'd like to think I know what I'm doing in a Unix shell but maybe not. I made a mistake in a configuration file for MySQL, so I decided to just uninstall it and then reinstall it, so I did: sudo apt-get --purge remove mysql-server mysql-server-5.0 mysql-client The files were deleted, so I then tried to install it, but it didn't ask me for a root password or anything else, so I uninstalled it using the above command again and then did sudo rm -rf /etc/mysql sudo rm /etc/init.d/mysql sudo rm -rf /var/lib/mysql* I then restarted the computer then installed it again: sudo apt-get install mysql-server mysql-client It asked for a root password, and everything looked like it would work, until I saw this: $ sudo apt-get install mysql-server mysql-client Reading package lists... • Java library for CSS cleanup

  For a rich text editor that has to handle pasted HTML code from MS Office applications, I'm looking for a Java library that cleans up the content of all "style" attributes in HTML elements, so that only some CSS attributes are left: background-color border color font-family font-weight font-style list-style-type text-align text-decoration vertical-align For creating a well-formed HTML document, I can use JTidy. For HTML element transformations (removing unwanted elements), I can use http://htmlparser.sourceforge.net/ Is there anything comparable for CSS attributes?

• Can't authenticate with different NTLM credentials in one session with java.net.URLConnection

  When I access a HTTP server using the standard Java API (java.net.URLConnection), the credentials are "cached" after the first successful authentication, and subsequent calls to Authenticator.setDefault() have no effect. So, I need to restart the application in order to use different credentials. I don't observe this effect when Basic Authentication is used. But I need to use NTLM for the server I'm accessing, and the Jakarta Commons HttpClient isn't an alternative either because it doesn't support NTLMv2 (see http://oaklandsoftware.com/papers/ntlm.html) Looking at the packets using Wireshark, I also observe that before the first successful authentication, an authentication with the current Windows credentials is attempted first. But after succesful authentication, only the saved credentials are used. Is there any way to reset or change the credentials java.net.Authenticator is using after a successful NTLM authentication?

• FindBugs and CheckForNull on classes vs. interfaces

  Is there any way to let FindBugs check and warn me if a CheckForNull annotation is present on the implementation of a method in a class, but not on the declaration of the method in the interface? import javax.annotation.CheckForNull; interface Foo { public String getBar(); } class FooImpl implements Foo { @CheckForNull @Override public String getBar() { return null; } } public class FindBugsDemo { public static void main(String[] args) { Foo foo = new FooImpl(); System.out.println(foo.getBar().length()); } } I just discovered a bug in my application due to a missing null check that was not spotted by FindBugs because CheckForNull was only present on FooImpl, but not on Foo, and I don't want to spot all other locations of this problem manually.
