• Emacs - nxhtml-mode - memory full

  working with nxhtml-mode in emacs, I get problems since a few weeks. While working emacs pauses unexpectingly until showing a message in the mode line "!MEM FULL!"; obviously nxhtml-mode is filling up the memory until emacs stopps to work. I am working with html, php and css files. I have no idea how I could debug this problem in a meaningfull way. Also I seem to be the only one to have this problem, because googling did not deliver any answers to this question. I am using emacs 2.32 on an Linux Mint 11 system. I can not find out the verson of nxhtml, it says revision 829 downloaded from http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~nxhtml/nxhtml/main/revision/829. I set up a test scenario with a minimal dot-emacs just to test the nxhtml-mode. It seemed to be alright, but it does not reflect my productive set up. It would probably take a week or so to gradually include everything I used to use within emacs (e.g. org-mode) while testing whether nxhtml-mode does not like anything, which is called in my dot-emacs file. Is there another way? Can I find out, what causes the memory overload? Does anyone has similar problems using nxhtml-mode? Greetings Martin

• nxhtml and geben: debug mode stops responding to keystrokes upon step into html/php mixed line

  I'm using the php debugger geben and nxhtml-mode. While debugging, as soon as I step into a mixed line such as <foo><?php bar(); ?></foo> the debugger is no longer accepting any key-strokes. However, the mode line still indicates the debugger's presence (*debugging*'-entry). I guess this due to nxhtml's mode changes, because it's the exact same behavior geben shows after disabling end re-enabling it. Does anybody use nxhtml together with geben and has fixed it? Or is it possible to configure emacs to enable nxhtml conditionaly, such that php-mode is used instead when the buffer was opened by geben?

  I just started to use nxhtml, and I opened PHP file, it looks just really awful. I usually set black background-color, but PHP/nxhtml mode, background-color is set to light blue, and I don't know how to change it. How can I change it? Is there any good site to learn nxhtml mode?

• emacs frustration with web development any working dot-files?

  I really liked flexibility of emacs but it is really annoying to make it work. I want to use it for web development html, css, javascript, php. I first tried emacs-starter-kit . It didn't included nXhtml. Also C-g key binding does not work (they call it starter kit but basic key command does not work). I think it is mapped for git control. That's a frustration for a beginner. Then I replaced emacs-starter-kit with nXhtml. At least C-g is working. But code completion sucks, M-tab does not work. I tried code completion from nXhtml menu with no success. Also NXhtml mode did'nt colorized my file if css is mixed with html. Isn't it recommended for mixed html, css,php files. So why it doesnt work?. Why Emacs folks do not aware of convention over configuration? Dam! ship it something works! Please help me before I am getting crazy. I use Ubuntu 10.04 and emacs-snaphot-gtk 23.1.50-1. Please guide me step by step with your working dotfile url. Even I accept I am a dummy, it is really annoying and frustrating to use emacs.

• How do I configure emacs for editing HTML files that contain Javascript?

  I have started the painful first steps of using emacs to edit an HTML file with both HTML tags and javascript content. I have installed nxhtml and tried using it - i.e set up to use nxhtml-mumamo-mode for .html files. But I am not loving it. When I am editing the Javascript portion of the code the tab indents do not behave as they do when editing C/C++ code. It starts putting tabs within the line and if you try and hit tab in the white space preceding a line it inserts the tab rather than re-tabifying the line. Another aspect that I don't like is that it doesn't do syntax colouring like the usual C/C++ modes do. I much prefer the behaviour of the default java-mode when editing HTML files but that doesn't play nicely with the HTML code. :-( 1) Is there a better mode for editing HTML files with Javascript portions? 2) Is there a way to get nxhtml to use the default java-mode for the javascript portions?   I'm using the php debugger geben and nxhtml-mode -- my standard mode for editing php files. Unfortunately, these two modes don't mix well. Is it possible to configure emacs such a way that it enables nxhtml only conditionaly, when I open php files manually, but enables php-mode instead when the buffer is opened by geben?

  Hi, could you kindly share your emacs dot-files for web development that works with CSS, HTML, JavaScript, PHP and if possible with Python Django. I really need complete setup. I looked nXhtml and its good on some parts (html code completion works but sucks on indentation and CSS code completion does not work and says tag table is empty most cases. I really need something that works: code completion works out of the box, git integration and pretty indentation and supports multi-mode for mixed HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP code.

  Is there a good php syntax highlighter for Emacs? I'm using Emacs 23. I've tried php-mode, but that doesn't do anything. I've tried nXhtml, but that ignores my color theme and reverts to some awful looking default. Is there one I've missed or perhaps a configuration setting I've ignored?

• Emacs Column based Narrowing or Folding

  Is there column based narrowing in emacs. I tend narrow in one everything between script tags but that still keeps the original indent (space before var). It would be great if I could actually column narrow to the the beginning of the indent since otherwise the electrict indent tries to bring it to column 0. var foo = 1; var bar = 2; Alternate solution could be to mark the starting indents as uneditable, but I am also not sure how to do this. P.S. I am aware of MMM and NXHTML and html-helper-modes, but I am not looking to use them due to complexities.

• Good code highlighting, syntax analysis and code assist editor on js.erb and css.erb files

  I want to know if there is a good compatible api that supports erb and javascript highlighting. I've already tried Eclipse with Aptana RadRails. Perhaps I'm configuring something wrong, but it guesses that I'm using html.erb on both css.erb and js.erb files. I've tried too the Emacs with js2-mode, nXhtml and Rinari modes. Again, it works fine for html.erb, but it detects the css.erb and js.erb as html.erb files. Maybe it's possible to configure it to accept that files and be compatible.
