    - by DigitalGeekery
Looking for a way to stream your media collection across the Internet? Or perhaps watch and record TV remotely? Today we are going to look at how to do all that and more with Orb. Requirements Windows XP / Vista / 7 or Intel based Mac w/ OS X 10.5 or later. 1 GB RAM or more Pentium 4 2.4 GHz or higher / AMD Athlon 3200+ Broadband connections TV Tuner for streaming and recording live TV (optional) Note: Slower internet connections may result in stuttering during playback. Installation and Setup Download and install Orb on your home computer. (Download link below) You’ll want to take the defaults for the initial portion of the install. When we get to the Orb Account setup portion of the install is when we will have to enter information and make some decisions. Choose your language and click Next. We’ll need to create and user account and password. A valid email address is required as we’ll need to confirm the account later. Click Next.   Now you’ll want to choose your media sources. Orb will automatically look for folders that may contain media files. You can add or remove folders click on the (+) or (-) buttons. To remove a folder, click on it once to select it from the list and then click the minus (-) button. To add a folder, click the plus (+) button and browse for the folder. You can add local folders as well as shared folders from networked computers and USB attached storage. Note: Both the host computer running Orb and the networked computer will need to be running to access shared network folders remotely. When you’ve selected all your media files, click Next. Orb will proceed to index your media files… When the indexing is complete, click Next. Orb TV Setup Note: Streaming Live TV to Macs is not currently supported. If you have a TV tuner card connected to your PC, you can opt to configure Orb to stream live or recorded TV. Click Next  to configure TV. Or, choose Skip if you don’t wish to configure Orb for TV.   If you have a Digital tuner card, type in your Zip Code and click Get List to pull your channel listings. Select a TV provider from the list and click Next. If not, click Skip.   You can select or deselect any channels by checking or un-checking the box to each channel. Select Auto Scan to let Orb find more channels or disable the ones with no reception. Click Next when finished.   Next choose an analog provider, if necessary, and click Next.   Select “Yes” or “No” for a set top box and click Next. Just as we did with the Digital tuner, select or deselect any channels by checking or un-checking the box to each channel. Select Auto Scan to let Orb find more channels or disable the ones with no reception. Click Next when finished.   Now we’re finished with the setup. Click Close. Accessing your Media Remotely Media files are accessed through a web-based interface. Before we go any further, however, we’ll need to confirm our username and password. Check your inbox for an email from Orb Networks. Click the enclosed confirmation link. You’ll be prompted to enter the username and password you selected in your browser then click Next.   Your account will be confirmed. Now, we’re ready to enjoy our media remotely. To get started, point your browser to the MyCast website from your remote computer. (See link below) Enter your credentials and click Log In. Once logged in, you’ll be presented with the MyCast Home screen. By default you’ll see a handful of “channels” such as a TV program guide, random audio and photos, video favorites, and weather. You can add, remove, or customize channels. To add additional channels, click on Add Channels at the top right…   …and select from the dropdown list. To access your full media libraries, click Open Application at the top left and select from one of the options. Live and Recorded TV If you have a TV tuner card you configured for Orb, you’ll see your program guide on the TV / Webcams screen. To watch or record a show, click on the program listing to bring up a detail box. Then click the red button to record, or the green button to play. When recording a show, you’ll see a pulsating red icon at the top right of the listing in the program guide. If you want to watch Live TV, you may be prompted to choose your media player, depending on your browser and settings. Playback should begin shortly.   Note for Windows Media Center Users If you try to stream live TV in Orb while Windows Media Center is running on your PC, you’ll get an error message. Click the Stop MediaCenter button and then try again.   Audio On the Audio screen, you’ll find your music files indexed by genre, artist, and album. You can play a selection by clicking once and then clicking the green play button, or by simply double-clicking.   Playback will begin in the default media player for the streaming format.   Video Video works essentially the same as audio. Click on a selection and press the green play button, or double-click on the video title. Video playback will begin in the default media player for the streaming format.   Streaming Formats You can change the default streaming format in the control panel settings. To access the Control Panel, click on Open Applications  and select Control Panel. You can also click Settings at the top right.   Select General from the drop down list and then click on the Streaming Formats tab. You are provided four options. Flash, Windows Media, .SDP, and .PLS.   Creating Playlists To create playlists, drag and drop your media title to the playlist work area on the right, or click Add to playlist on the top menu. Click Save when finished.    Sharing your Media Orb allows you to share media playlists across the Internet with friends and family. There are a few ways to accomplish this. We’ll start by click the Share button at the bottom of the playlist work area after you’ve compiled your playlist. You’ll be prompted to choose a method by which to share your playlist. You’ll have the option to share your playlist publicly or privately. You can share publically through links, blogs, or on your Orb public profile.  By choosing the Public Profile option, Orb will automatically create a profile page for you with a URL like http://public.orb.com/username that anyone can easily access on the Internet. The private sharing option allows you to invite friends by email and requires recipients to register with Orb. You can also give your playlist a custom name, or accept the auto-generated title. Click OK when finished. Users who visit your public profile will be able to view and stream any of your shared playlists to their computer or supported device.   Portable Media Devices and Smartphones Orb can stream media to many portable devices and 3G phones. Streaming audio is supported on the iPhone and iPod Touch through the Safari browser. However, video and live TV streaming requires the Orb Live iPhone App.  Orb Live is available in the App store for $9.99. To stream media to your portable device, go to the MyCast website in your mobile browser and login. Browse for your media or playlist. Make a selection and play the media. Playback will begin. We found streaming music to both the Droid and the iPhone to work quite nicely. Video playback on the Droid, however, left a bit to be desired. The video looked good, but the audio tended to be out of sync. System Tray Control Panel By default Orb runs in the system tray on start up. To access the System Tray Control Panel, right-click on the Orb icon in the system tray and select Control Panel. Login with your Orb username and  password and click OK.   From here you can add or remove media sources, add manage accounts, change your password, and more. If you’d rather not run Orb on Startup, click the General icon.   Unselect the checkbox next to Start Orb when the system starts. Conclusion It may seem like a lot of steps, but getting Orb up and running isn’t terribly difficult. Orb is available for both Windows and Intel based Macs. It also supports streaming to many Game Consoles such as the Wii, PS3, and XBox 360. • Change The Windows 7 Start Orb the Easy Way

    - by Matthew Guay
Want to make your Windows 7 PC even more unique and personalized?  Then check out this easy guide on how to change your start orb in Windows 7. Getting Started First, download the free Windows 7 Start Button Changer (link below), and extract the contents of the folder.  It contains the app along with a selection of alternate start button orbs you can try out.   Before changing the start button, we advise creating a system restore point in case anything goes wrong.  Enter System Restore in your Start menu search, and select “Create a restore point”. Please note:  We tested this on both the 32 bit and 64 bit editions of Windows 7, and didn’t encounter any problems or stability issues.  That said, it is always prudent to make a restore point just in case a problem did happen. Click the Create button… Then enter a name for the restore point, and click Create. Changing the Start Orb. Once this is finished, run the Windows 7 Start Button Changer as administrator by right-clicking on it and selecting “Run as administrator”.  Accept the UAC prompt that will appear. If you don’t run it as an administrator, you may see the following warning.  Click Quit, and then run again as administrator. You should now see the Windows 7 Start Button Changer.  On the left it shows what your current (default) start orb looks like inactive, when hovered over, and when selected.  Click the orb on the right to select a new start button. Here we browsed to the sample orbs folder, and selected one of them.  Let’s give Windows the Media Center orb for a start orb.  Click the orb you want, and then select open. When you click Open, your screen will momentarily freeze and your taskbar will disappear.  When it reappears, your computer will have gone from having the old, default Start orb style… …to your new, exciting Start orb!  Here it is default, and glowing when hovered over. Now, the Windows 7 Start Orb Changer will change, and show your new Start orb on the left side.  If you would like to revert to the default orb, simply click the folder icon to restore it.  Or, if you would like to change the orb again, restore the original first and then select a new one. The orbs don’t have to be round; here’s a fancy Windows 7 logo as the start button. The start orb change will work in the Aero and Aero basic (which Windows 7 Start uses) themes, but will not show up in the classic, Windows 2000 style themes.  Here’s how the new start button looks with the Aero Classic theme: There are tons of orbs available, including this cute smiley, so choose one that you like to make your computer uniquely yours. Conclusion This is a cute way to make your desktop unique, and can be a great way to make a truly personalized theme.  Let us know your favorite Start orb! • ORB forwards to a wrong location

    - by dave-keiture
I have an orbd started at a virtual host (with the IP A), with some remote object registered. Box that hosts virual boxes has IP B. When client tries to connect to the ORB at A to acquire the NamingContext, ORB replies with a LocationForward message poiniting to host B and port 1049 (like if another ORB would be started at that host). NamingContext is returned successfully, but obviously I'm not able to acqure the objects, registered at the NamingContext (at ORB hosted at A) by the name. Could anyone please explain what's happening? How can I access the orb hosted at A remotely? Thanks in advance.

My file is relatively large, but I just want to replace a word with the value 1 for now. Thanks so much.

  • Client-side policy error using JacORB (Java/CORBA) with SSL

    - by jason
I'm trying to add SSL to an existing CORBA app, and I keep getting this error: org.omg.CORBA.NO_PERMISSION: Client-side policy requires SSL/TLS, but server doesn't support it vmcid: 0x0 minor code: 0 completed: No at org.jacorb.orb.iiop.ClientIIOPConnection.checkSSL(ClientIIOPConnection.java:535) at org.jacorb.orb.iiop.ClientIIOPConnection.connect(ClientIIOPConnection.java:144) at org.jacorb.orb.giop.GIOPConnection.sendMessage(GIOPConnection.java:835) at org.jacorb.orb.giop.GIOPConnection.sendRequest(GIOPConnection.java:805) at org.jacorb.orb.giop.ClientConnection.sendRequest(ClientConnection.java:302) at org.jacorb.orb.giop.ClientConnection.sendRequest(ClientConnection.java:282) at org.jacorb.orb.Delegate.invoke_internal(Delegate.java:919) at org.jacorb.orb.Delegate.invoke(Delegate.java:868) at org.jacorb.orb.Delegate.is_a(Delegate.java:1268) at org.omg.CORBA.portable.ObjectImpl._is_a(ObjectImpl.java:112) at databridge.autogen.ILoginManagerHelper.narrow(ILoginManagerHelper.java:57) at databridge.test.Client.main(Client.java:59) I have generated keystores for both client and server and exchanged the keys between the two. Using this setup, I can get the demo application that came in the JacORB download to run successfully. The only difference I can tell is that my test is using the Tie method to get the POA. There are some policies that go into that, but I can't find any information on what policies need to go in there to enable SSL, if any. I'm not even sure that's the problem as the JacORB demo doesn't set any policies on the server or poa. When I run the -Djavax.net.debug=ssl, I can see the keystores load up the trusted certs on both the client and the server. I'm just not sure what policies are being referred to here, but it's odd that the demo works and the test doesn't using the exact same keystores and properties. I've emailed the mailing list, but I'm not holding out much hope as that doesn't seem to be very active. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Below are my properties files. • Attempting to connect to a CORBA Service using corbaloc url

    - by Megasaur
String[] orbargs= {}; org.omg.CORBA.ORB orb = org.omg.CORBA.ORB.init(orbargs, null); org.omg.CORBA.Object cobj = orb.string_to_object("corbaloc:iiop:10.1.1.200:6969/OurServiceHelper"); _OurServiceHelper cpsh = _OurServiceHelperHelper.narrow(cobj); // Get's stuck cpsh.ourMethod(); That narrow just hangs. My service is setup to run on a static port. And we know it works since we usually look it up through the NamingService. What am I doing wrong?

  • Object Oriented Programming in AS3

    - by Jordan
I'm building a game in as3 that has balls moving and bouncing off the walls. When the user clicks an explosion appears and any ball that hits that explosion explodes too. Any ball that then hits that explosion explodes and so on. My question is what would be the best class structure for the balls. I have a level system to control levels and such and I've already come up with working ways to code the balls. Here's what I've done. My first attempt was to create a class for Movement, Bounce, Explosion and finally Orb. These all extended each other in the order I just named them. I got it working but having Bounce extend Movement and Explosion extend Bounce, it just doesn't seem very object oriented because what if I wanted to add a box class that didn't move, but did explode? I would need a separate class for that explosion. My second attempt was to create Movement, Bounce and Explosion without extending anything. Instead I passed in a reference to the Orb class to each. Then the class stores that reference and does what it needs to do based on events that are dispatched by the Orb such as update, which was broadcast from Orb every enter frame. This would drive the movement and bounce and also the explosion when the time came. This attempt worked as well but it just doesn't seem right. I've also thought about using Interfaces but because they are more of an outline for classes, I feel like code reuse goes out the window as each class would need its own code for a specific task even if that task is exactly the same. I feel as if I'm searching for some form of multiple inheritance for classes that as3 does not support. Can someone explain to me a better way of doing what I'm attempting to do? Am I being to "Object Oriented" by having classed for Movement, Bounce, Explosion and Orb? Are Interfaces the way to go? Any feedback is appreciated!

  • Broken corba object references

    - by cube
    I'm working on a homework and got stuck. The task is to serve objects using a default servant. But when I try to use the reference, weird things happen. Some part of corba prints a stack trace, but no exception is thrown. The problem happens when the server receives the reference and should call some method on it. The reference is then shortened and doesn't contain the object ID (which means that my servant implementation can't do anything reasonable). This is the implementation of the servant, where the problem appears: public class ModelFileImpl extends ModelFilePOA{ @Override public String getName() { try { return new String(_poa().reference_to_id(_this_object())); } catch (Throwable e) {} assert false; return null; } } If I take _this_object().toString() inside the try block and put it into dior -i i get this: ------IOR components----- TypeId : IDL:termproject/idl/ModelFile:1.0 TAG_INTERNET_IOP Profiles: Profile Id: 0 IIOP Version: 1.2 Host: 127.0.0.1 Port: 45954 Object key (URL): %AF%AB%CB%00%00%00%00%20Q%BA%F4%FF%00%00%00%01%00%00%00%00%00%00%00%01%0000%00%08RootPOA%00%00%00%00%08%00%00%00%02%00%00%00%00%14 Object key (hex): 0xAF AB CB 00 00 00 00 20 51 BA F4 FF 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 08 52 6F 6F 74 50 4F 41 00 00 00 00 08 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 00 14 -- Found 2 Tagged Components-- #0: TAG_CODE_SETS ForChar native code set Id: ISO8859_1 Char Conversion Code Sets: UTF8 , Unknown TCS: 10020 ForWChar native code set Id: UTF16 WChar Conversion Code Sets: Unknown TCS: 10100 Unknown tag : 38 however the part of server that makes the reference and the client see the reference as ------IOR components----- TypeId : IDL:termproject/idl/ModelFile:1.0 TAG_INTERNET_IOP Profiles: Profile Id: 0 IIOP Version: 1.2 Host: 127.0.0.1 Port: 45954 Object key (URL): %AF%AB%CB%00%00%00%00%20Q%BA%F4%FF%00%00%00%01%00%00%00%00%00%00%00%02%00%00%00%08RootPOA%00%00%00%00%09modelPoa%00%00%00%00%00%00%00%10testModel1.MyIDL%14 Object key (hex): 0xAF AB CB 00 00 00 00 20 51 BA F4 FF 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 08 52 6F 6F 74 50 4F 41 00 00 00 00 09 6D 6F 64 65 6C 50 6F 61 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 10 74 65 73 74 4D 6F 64 65 6C 31 2E 4D 79 49 44 4C 14 -- Found 2 Tagged Components-- #0: TAG_CODE_SETS ForChar native code set Id: ISO8859_1 Char Conversion Code Sets: UTF8 , Unknown TCS: 10020 ForWChar native code set Id: UTF16 WChar Conversion Code Sets: Unknown TCS: 10100 Unknown tag : 38 ("modelPoa" (the name of the poa working with default clients) and "testModel1.MyIDL" (the identifier of the object) in the object key are missing in the first one) I've tried sniffing the traffic and found out that the client still sends the correct reference.   • GlassFish build failed

  • How do I hook into Tar with BASH?

    - by orb
Long Story Short I am working with Tar archives that contain PNG images in base64 encoding. I would like to use BASH (or whatever else works) to hook into the extraction function of Tar to decode PNG images from base64 encoding to standard PNG encoding after the files are unpacked. A simple cat $input-file | base64 -d >$output-file will successfully decode the images. Is there a way I can hook into tar -xf so that users do not have to do any (or minimal) extra work to decode the images? In the GNU Tar documentation (http://www.gnu.org/software/tar/manual/html_chapter/Backups.html#SEC97) I found that there are in fact variables reserved to hold the names of functions I desire to be hooked into various moments in Tar program execution. However, the documentation explains that these variables, along with other variables that can be set to configure Tar, are located in a file named backup-specs. Unfortunately, the path to this file is not given. Further, running sudo find / -name backup-specs tells me that this file is not present on my Ubuntu version 13.04 system. Background Information not included in the Long Story Short I have been working on a browser-based (WebGL) particle effect creation application (http://www.particleeffect.org), (https://github.com/cgrabowski/webgl-particle-effect-editor), (https://github.com/cgrabowski/webgl-particle-effect). I have began to write a client-side-only solution for saving and loading effect data as a tar archive. However, since client-side JavaScript has limited capability to process binary data, the images used as textures in the effect are saved with base64 encoding. I have been able to implement saving effect data as a Tar archive (haven't pushed that to Github yet). However, the images present in said Tar archive cannot be manipulated unless they are decoded from base64 encoding.

  • Use some CSS properties in many selectors without editing HTML or using JS

    - by OrB
CSS: .bananaTrans { -moz-transition : all 1s ease-in-out; -webkit-transition: all 1s ease-in-out; transition : all 1s ease-in-out; } .bananaClass { color: yellow; } HTML: <div class="bananaClass">Banana Banana Banana</div> The objective is to make every element that has class "bananaClass" inherit the properties of "bananaTrans" without editing the HTML or using JavaScript. It ("bananaTrans") don't need exactly to be a class, it's just a bunch of properties to be used amongst other selectors.

  • Referencing movie clips from within an actionscript class

    - by Ant
Hi all, I have been given the task of adding a scoring system to various flash games. This simply involves taking input, adding functionality such as pausing and replaying and then outputting the score, time left etc. at the end. I've so far successfully edited two games. Both these games used the "actions" code on frames. The latest game I'm trying to do uses an actionscript class which makes it both easier and harder. I'm not very adept at flash at all, but I've worked it out so far. I've added various movie clips that are to be used for displaying the pause screen background, buttons for replaying etc. I've been showing and hiding these using: back._visible = true; //movie clip, instance of back (back.png) I doubt it's best practice, but it's quick and has been working. However, now with the change of coding style to classes, this doesn't seem to work. I kinda understand why, but I'm now unsure how to hide/show these elements. Any help would be greatly appreciated :) I've attached the modified AS. class RivalOrbs extends MovieClip { var infinite_levels, orbs_start, orbs_inc, orbs_per_level, show_timer, _parent, one_time_per_level, speed_start, speed_inc_percent, max_speed, percent_starting_on_wrong_side, colorize, colors, secs_per_level; function RivalOrbs() { super(); mc = this; this.init(); } // End of the function function get_num_orbs() { if (infinite_levels) { return (orbs_start + (level - 1) * orbs_inc); } else if (level > orbs_per_level.length) { return (0); } else { return (orbs_per_level[level - 1]); } // end else if } // End of the function function get_timer_str(secs) { var _loc2 = Math.floor(secs / 60); var _loc1 = secs % 60; return ((_loc2 > 0 ? • Error when trying to connect to Jacorb naming service

    - by Dopyiii
I'm hoping to get some help with this weird problem. We're running the Jacorb name server and I have a simple client that I'm using to try to connect and do awesome CORBA voodoo. The name server is running, but when I try to start my java app, I get a "Connection failure" error (org.omg.CORBA.COMM_FAILURE, minor code 201, "caused by java.net.ConnectionException: Connection refused: connect"). Here's the weird part. The error reports that it's trying to connect using the default port 900, but I'm passing in an argument to try to override the port number of the name service to match the one being used by the name server. My java command is like this: java -classpath . HelloClient -Djava.endorsed.dirs="bla bla bla" -Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBClass=org.jacorb.orb.ORB -Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBSingletonClass=org.jacorb.orb.ORBSingleton -DORBInitRef.NameService=corbaloc::localhost:2809/StandardNS/NameServer-POA/_root I also tried the parameters without the first capital D (I've seen it both ways and I don't know the difference). Now, if I put in -ORBInitialPort 2809, then the client does appear to try to connect, but then I get a corba.OBJECT_NOT_EXIST error. I could use any help or advise anyone has.

  • Windows 7 Taskbar disappears overnight

    - by eidylon
Hello all, I've got this problem that started happening recently. Overnight, something is happening that makes my taskbar disappear on my laptop. The Start orb is still there, and if I click it, it pops up the start menu, but the whole rest of the taskbar, including the background behind the start orb, is just completely vanished: tray icons, running programs, clock, everything. I tried killing explorer.exe and restarting it, but it doesn't restart. And after killing it, Task Manager won't let me start ANY programs. It gives no errors, just ... doesn't run them. Anyone else see this or know what it might be? I'm running Windows 7 RC on an IBM ThinkPad R51 with 2GB ram.

  • Adding a valuetype to IDL, compile and it fails with "No factory found"

    - by jim
    I can't figure out why the client keeps complaining about the not finding the factory method. I've tried the IDL with and without the "factory" keyword and that didn't change the behavior. The SDMGeoVT IDL matches other objects used (which run successfully). The SDMGeoVT classes generated match other generated classes in regards to inheritance and methods. The IDL is as follows; The idlj compiler runs w/o error. I implement the function on the server and I see the server code run and serialize the object over the wire (the server code runs fine). The client bombs with the following stack trace (the first couple of lines is from the jacORB library). I've created a small app just to compile and test the code (ArrayClient & ArrayServer). The base app (from the jacORB demo) works fine. I've tried using the base class OFBaseVT and a single object (SDMGeoVT vs the list return) and have the same issue. 2010-05-27 15:37:11.813 FINE read GIOP message of size 100 from ClientGIOPConnection to 127.0.0.1:47030 (1e4853f) 2010-05-27 15:37:11.813 FINE read GIOP message of size 100 from ClientGIOPConnection to 127.0.0.1:47030 (1e4853f) org.omg.CORBA.MARSHAL: No factory found for: IDL:pl/SDMGeoVT:1.0 at org.jacorb.orb.CDRInputStream.read_untyped_value(CDRInputStream.java:2906) at org.jacorb.orb.CDRInputStream.read_typed_value(CDRInputStream.java:3082) at org.jacorb.orb.CDRInputStream.read_value(CDRInputStream.java:2679) at com.helloworld.pl.SDMGeoVTHelper.read(SDMGeoVTHelper.java:106) at com.helloworld.pl.SDMGeoVTListHelper.read(SDMGeoVTListHelper.java:51) at com.helloworld.pl._PLManagerIFStub.getSDMGeos(_PLManagerIFStub.java:28) at com.helloworld.ArrayClient.<init>(ArrayClient.java:40) at com.helloworld.ArrayClient.main(ArrayClient.java:125) valuetype SDMGeoVT : common::OFBaseVT{ private string sdmName; private string zip; private string atz; private long long primaryDeptId; private string deptName; factory instance(in string name,in string ZIP,in string ATZ,in long long primaryDeptId,in string deptName,in string name); string getZIP(); void setZIP(in string ZIP); string getATZ(); void setATZ(in string ATZ); long long getPrimaryDeptId(); void setPrimaryDeptId(in long long primaryDeptId); string getDeptName(); void setDeptName(in string deptName); }; typedef sequence<SDMGeoVT> SDMGeoVTList; interface PLManagerIF : PublicManagerIF { pl::SDMGeoVTList getSDMGeos(in framework::ITransactionHandle tHandle, in long long productionLocationId); };

  • CORBA Naming Service returns incorrect location of a registered object

    - by dave-keiture
Hi experts, I have a simple setup with several objects registered at orbd. Remote client initializes connection to the ORB and tries to resolve a reference to the Naming Serice (IDL:omg.org/CosNaming/NamingContextExt:1.0). So far it's all fine - ORB returns giop.iiop.host/giop.iiop.port pair. When reference to the Naming Service is resolved, client tries to resolve_str() one of the registered objects. This time, Naming Service returns completely different pair giop.iiop.host/giop.iiop.port for the object (not the host/port of a Naming Service) - I don't know anything about them. When client tries to call a method on a resolved object, it fails, as the host/port pair is not configured in the firewall. Could you please explain, why it's happening? Thanks in advance!

  • Transcoding media server streaming to the iPhone

    - by pilif
I have a huge collection of videos in different formats, but with one thing in common: They are not playable on an iPhone (or iPod Touch). Instead of complaining about Apple's IMHO broken world view ("there are no video formats but quicktime and mp4"), I wonder if there's a solution out there that allows streaming these different videos to the iPhone. This means that the source media needs to be transcoded on the fly. I already tried a few solutions out there, but with varying success: PS3 Media Server kind of worked, but only once and only for one single file. TVersity is said to work, but it requires UAC to be disabled and I don't see any need for this. The solution I'm looking for should run on Windows 2008 Server or Linux. I just can't believe that there's nothing out there that would allow me to stream my huge video collection on my iPhone (we're talking Wifi here, not 3G). After looking at the answers provided and after retrying TVersity without much success, I gave Orb another try and while the web interface failed to work for me, the iPhone Application (I tried the free one at first) actually worked flawlessly. And not only that, it also manages to convert the streams on-the-fly, so you don't have to wait for the transcoding process to finish before playback starts. On my 2.26 Ghz MacMini Server, this worked even with 1080p material. For Windows 2008 Server users out there: Remember to install the Desktop Experience Feature in the Server Manager if you intend this to work. Of all the stuff I had a look at, this really provided instant-success - even though I'm now probably sending the contents of my harddrive to orb's central server (sigh)

  • Connecting client (on VirtualBox) and server (on localhost) using CORBA - org.omg.CORBA.BAD_PARAM:

    - by yak
Im working now on simple gui appllication in Java/C++ and CORBA. I want my client on VirtualBox connect to server on localhost. When I have a simple app, like a calc I wrote about earlier its just fine. But when it comes to run client which needs some args witch javas -cp option, Im getting errors. (Theres no such problem when I have both client and server in localhost!) My errors: WARNING: "IOP00100007: (BAD_PARAM) string_to_object conversion failed due to bad scheme name" org.omg.CORBA.BAD_PARAM: vmcid: OMG minor code: 7 completed: No at com.sun.corba.se.impl.logging.OMGSystemException.soBadSchemeName(Unkn own Source) at com.sun.corba.se.impl.logging.OMGSystemException.soBadSchemeName(Unkn own Source) at com.sun.corba.se.impl.resolver.INSURLOperationImpl.operate(Unknown So urce) at com.sun.corba.se.impl.resolver.ORBInitRefResolverImpl.resolve(Unknown Source) at com.sun.corba.se.impl.resolver.CompositeResolverImpl.resolve(Unknown Source) at com.sun.corba.se.impl.resolver.CompositeResolverImpl.resolve(Unknown Source) at com.sun.corba.se.impl.orb.ORBImpl.resolve_initial_references(Unknown Source) at ClientConnection.connect(ClientConnection.java:57) at Client.main(Client.java:295) Exception in thread "main" org.omg.CORBA.BAD_PARAM: vmcid: OMG minor code: 7 completed: No at com.sun.corba.se.impl.logging.OMGSystemException.soBadSchemeName(Unkn own Source) at com.sun.corba.se.impl.logging.OMGSystemException.soBadSchemeName(Unkn own Source) at com.sun.corba.se.impl.resolver.INSURLOperationImpl.operate(Unknown So urce) at com.sun.corba.se.impl.resolver.ORBInitRefResolverImpl.resolve(Unknown Source) at com.sun.corba.se.impl.resolver.CompositeResolverImpl.resolve(Unknown Source) at com.sun.corba.se.impl.resolver.CompositeResolverImpl.resolve(Unknown Source) at com.sun.corba.se.impl.orb.ORBImpl.resolve_initial_references(Unknown Source) at ClientConnection.connect(ClientConnection.java:57) at Client.main(Client.java:295) make[1]: *** [run] Error 1 ClientConnection.java:57 is a line objRef = clientORB.resolve_initial_references("NameService"); Client.java:295 is a line: ClientConnection.connect(args); A connect method is just an ordinary client-connection corba code. Whats wrong? I mean, a simple code works fine but gui version doesnt want to ... is there a problem with -cp option? I cant change my apps' dir tree.
