  • Orbited exception Data must not be unicode.

    - by Sid
I am working with orbited and once I switch on orbited in production mode it throws the following error on my screen -- <exception caught here> --- File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/twisted/web/server.py", line 150, in process self.render(resrc) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/twisted/web/server.py", line 157, in render body = resrc.render(self) File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/orbited-0.7.10-py2.6.egg/orbited/transports/base.py", line 21, in render self.conn.transportOpened(self) File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/orbited-0.7.10-py2.6.egg/orbited/cometsession.py", line 322, in transportOpened self.cometTransport.flush() File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/orbited-0.7.10-py2.6.egg/orbited/transports/base.py", line 45, in flush self.write(self.packets) File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/orbited-0.7.10-py2.6.egg/orbited/transports/htmlfile.py", line 42, in write self.request.write(payload); File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/twisted/web/http.py", line 862, in write self.transport.write(data) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/twisted/internet/tcp.py", line 420, in write abstract.FileDescriptor.write(self, bytes) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/twisted/internet/abstract.py", line 170, in write raise TypeError("Data must not be unicode") exceptions.TypeError: Data must not be unicode I have absolutely no clue as to what could be the problem. Could anyone point me in the right direction.

  • Upstart script not working on Ubuntu

    - by Holy Crap
I'm trying to write an upstart script to start orbited on startup. The script is as follows: #orbited start on startup stop on shutdown script exec /usr/local/bin/orbited --config=/etc/orbited.cfg end script When I run upstart orbited I get something like this: orbited start/running, process 605 But when I run status orbited right after doing that I get: orbited stop/waiting The script fails to start even though it says it's running. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Self-contained python installation with executable tools included (pip, orbited, etc)

    - by Tristan
I'm trying deploy a Python application on Windows as a folder that includes a full python 2.6 folder. I don't need/want a fancy solution like py2exe, I'm just trying to automate deployment of a web application. So long as I include python26.dll and set the PYTHONHOME correctly, things seem to work if I just include the Python26 folder in its entirety. However a number of the Python26/Script files don't work. For instance, pip.exe, orbited.exe, and morbid.exe all do nothing (complete with no output) when I try to run them on a system that doesn't have a real Python26 installation. I've run out of ideas. Suggestions?

  • Developing a high-performance, scalable Comet application

    - by Rob
Well, the title says most of it. I'm looking to develop a chat application that will hopefully become something more, and currently I'm considering my options for what I should build it on top of. I've taken a look at Tornado with Redis as my primary option - Tornado, being a Comet server, is perfect for long polling to retrieve the messages on Redis, which I have the intention of using as both a persistent data store, as well as a message queue with its nifty subpub features. However, I've also heard good things about Django, RabbitMQ, MongoDB and Orbited. JavaScript isn't a big problem for me, so Orbited's JavaScript support isn't too much of a boon. Really, I'd probably be happy to develop on the route I've chosen for myself, but if there are any gaping deficiencies in my plan, I'd like some kind person to point them out before I find I've wasted months on this.

  • How should I implement reverse AJAX in a Django application?

    - by Carson Myers
How should I implement reverse AJAX when building a chat application in Django? I've looked at Django-Orbited, and from my understanding, this puts a comet server in front of the HTTP server. This seems fine if I'm just running the Django development server, but how does this work when I start running the application from mod_wsgi? How does having the orbited server handling every request scale? Is this the correct approach? I've looked at another approach (long polling) that seems like it would work, although I'm not sure what all would be involved. Would the client request a page that would live in its own thread, so as not to block the rest of the application? Would it even block? Wouldn't the script requested by the client have to continuously poll for information? Which of the approaches is more proper? Which is more portable, scalable, sane, etc? Are there other good approaches to this (aside from the client polling for messages) that I have overlooked?

  • Proven and Scalable Comet Server

    - by demetriusnunes
What is the most proven, scalable comet server solution out there that can handle up to 100.000 real-life connections per node using HTTP streaming (not long-poll)? It must be a free, preferably open-source project. We've already tried Meteor (Perl), with no success. Meteor was able to scale just up to 20.000 connections per node. We are looking right now at these options: APE (C++), Orbited (Python), Grizzly (Glassfish), Cometd (Jetty). Any big success stories with any of these?

  • Is there an open source cross-platform push server?

    - by Ian
I'm currently in need of a (preferably open-source) free push server, that supports both linux and windows. I need something similar to the Ajax Push Engine, but that project unfortunatelly does not work on windows (I could use a virtual machine, but that's not what I'm looking for). I need to be able to push information to/from a python daemon, from a php script, to/from javascript and to a Blackberry application (built with java). Is there any tool that could help me with that? I've also looked into the Orbited project but frankly it lacks a lot of documentation and it's been very complicated to understand it. I'm not sure if it could work for me since it isn't actually a push server, but rather a proxy for it's built in MorbidQ server (or am I wrong?). Would a technology like Advanced Message Queing Protocol work for a project like this? Something like RabbitMQ or ActiveMQ? Thank you very much for the help.
