  • router propogation usng OSPF

    - by liv2hak
I am using Juniper J-series routers to emulate a small telco and VPN customer.I need to use OSPF so that the path to each internal subnet is propogated to all PE nodes. The network topology is given below. To achieve this I am planning to run the following commands in UOW-TAU and UOW-HAM. set protocols ospf area 0.0.0.0 interface ge-0/0/0 set protocols ospf area 0.0.0.0 interface lo0.0 Do I need to do any additional configuration in TAU-PE1 and HAM-PE1 routers for it to receive the OSPF paths.? I am a beginner at the routing.Any help is appreciated.

  • route propogation using OSPF in a network

    - by liv2hak
I am using Juniper J-series routers to emulate a small telco and VPN customer. The internal routing will be configured with OSPF,MPLS including a default and backup path,RSVP for distributing labels withing the telco,OSPF for distributing routes from the customer edge (CE) routers to the VRF's in the adjacent PE's and finally iBGP for distributing customer routes between VRF's in different PEs. The topology of the network is shown below. The Addressing scheme for the network is as follows. UOW-TAU ******* ge-0/0/0 192.168.3.1 TAU-PE1 ******* ge-0/0/0 10.0.1.0 ge-0/0/1 10.0.2.0 ge-0/0/2 192.168.3.2 TAU-P1 ****** ge-0/0/0 172.16.1.0 ge-0/0/1 172.16.3.1 ge-0/0/2 10.0.2.2 HAM-P1 ****** ge-0/0/0 172.16.3.2 ge-0/0/1 172.16.2.1 ge-0/0/3 10.0.3.2 ACK-P1 ****** ge-0/0/0 172.16.1.2 ge-0/0/2 172.16.2.2 ge-0/0/3 10.0.1.2 HAM-PE1 ******* ge-0/0/0 10.0.3.1 ge-0/0/2 192.168.4.2 UOW-HAM ******* ge-0/0/0 192.168.4.1 I also set up loopback address for each node. I want to setup OSPF so that path to each internal subnet and router loopback address is propogated to all PE and P nodes.I also want to select a single area for PE and P nodes, and on each node I should add each interface that should be propogated. How do I accomplish this.? With my understanding below is the procedure to achieve this.Is the below explanation correct? I set up OSPF on UOW-TAU ge-0/0/0 interface and ge-0/0/1 interface and UOW-HAM ge-0/0/0 interface and ge-0/0/1 interface. let me call this Area 100. Once I have done this I should be able to reach each node from others using ping and traceroute. Any help is highly appreciated.

  • Cisco router not receiving OSPF updates

    - by WebDevHobo
Or at least, that's what I think is happening. There doesn't appear to be a debug command for this, or to see if something is in the routing table. I'm testing out this setup in Packet Tracer. I have 3 routers and a webserver From left to right, you have: Webserver - Router1 - Router2 - Router3 Router1 and Router2 can succesfully ping WebServer. Router3 cannot. Router2 has a default gateway set, to send all not-recognized data through its serial interface to Router1. Like this: ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 Serial 0/0/1 Serial 0/0/1 being the connection to Router1 Router2 and Router3 have OSPF configured. From their "show run": Router2: router ospf 1 log-adjacency-changes passive-interface Serial0/0/1 network 10.1.1.0 0.0.0.3 area 0 default-information originate ! Router3: router ospf 1 log-adjacency-changes network 10.1.1.0 0.0.0.3 area 0 passive-interface FastEthernet0/0 ! I was under the assumption that setting default-information originate on Router2 would give Router3 the needed information. What's going wrong here? The interfaces are up. Ip addresses are with mask-range, clock rate is set at correct end. I don't know what else to check.

  • ospfd over an OpenVPN link - strange error in logs

    - by Alex
    I am trying to set up Quagga ospfd on two hosts connected by an OpenVPN link. These hosts have VPN IPs 10.31.0.1 and 10.31.0.13. ospfd config is pretty simple: hostname bizon password xxxxxxxxx enable password xxxxxxxxx ! log file /var/log/quagga/ospfd.log ! interface lo ! interface tun0 ip ospf network point-to-point ip ospf mtu-ignore ip ospf cost 10 interface tun1 ip ospf network point-to-point ip ospf mtu-ignore ip ospf cost 10 interface tun2 ip ospf network point-to-point ip ospf mtu-ignore ip ospf cost 10 ! router ospf ospf router-id 10.31.0.1 network 10.31.0.0/16 area 0.0.0.0 network 10.119.2.0/24 area 0.0.0.0 redistribute connected area 0.0.0.0 range 10.0.0.0/8 ! line vty ! debug ospf event debug ospf packet all I am getting the following error in the ospfd.log (the log is from 10.31.0.13): 2012/10/05 01:25:28 OSPF: ip_v 4 2012/10/05 01:25:28 OSPF: ip_hl 5 2012/10/05 01:25:28 OSPF: ip_tos 192 2012/10/05 01:25:28 OSPF: ip_len 64 2012/10/05 01:25:28 OSPF: ip_id 64666 2012/10/05 01:25:28 OSPF: ip_off 0 2012/10/05 01:25:28 OSPF: ip_ttl 1 2012/10/05 01:25:28 OSPF: ip_p 89 2012/10/05 01:25:28 OSPF: ip_sum 0xe5d1 2012/10/05 01:25:28 OSPF: ip_src 10.31.0.1 2012/10/05 01:25:28 OSPF: ip_dst 224.0.0.5 2012/10/05 01:25:28 OSPF: Packet from [10.31.0.1] received on link tun1 but no ospf_interface I'm not sure what to do next. • How does ospf control flooding?

What method is used by ospf protocol to prevent looping of flooded packets for link state advertisements? The packet header does not contain any timestamp. How do the routers recognize that it is the same advertisement that they sent before?

  • What are the advantages of OSPF vs nexthop self with iBGP?

    - by Matt Hamilton
Assuming I have a fairly small network internally, but I have 4 routers each connected out to a different network. The routers are all sat next to each other connected via a switch. Each router uses BGP to speak to the outside networks. There is an iBGP mesh for each router to exchange the routes internally it knows about from each external network. The usual setup is to use OSPF to distribute the connected routes, as the routes via iBGP will still have the next hop set to their original value. What is the advantage of using OSPF in this scenario versus simply using 'set nexthop self' on the routes?

  • Steps to deploy a custom routing protocol

    - by user134589
I'm a Ph.D Student and I'm researching a Service Centric Networking architecture with resourceallocation on a large scale. What I'm looking to do is expand an existing routing protocol like OSPF with extra fields and some new message types that I need for communication between Nodes. I want to manipulate the cost of a network link and I want paths to be calculated like in OSPF V2/v3, but using the cost that my algorithms have calculated. What I have I have the source code of OSPF from Quagga. I am assuming I can edit this code how I want, including packet structures and creating new types. Yes, I am aware it won't be easy but this is a 6 years research project and I am eager to develop something new, to move forward. What I need I would like to know how I can deploy the edited OSPF source files I have (written in C) on any type of server. I have a large testbed environment available with hundreds of virtual nodes and pretty much any OS out there. So if I want to test my extended protocol, how do I make all the nodes in a network use this to communicate? I do not understand what parts of the kernel I need to edit here. I tried searching for days now and I am unable to find how to deploy a non-existing routing protocol, without the use of an application-level framework. If somebody could push me in the right direction that'd be awesome. note: I need this to be a routingprotocol and not an application, since I want this to work on op of the network layer for performance reasons. Thanks!

  • replacing 3 Cisco Catalyst 4500

    - by hoberion
Our network supplier recommends replacing our 3 cisco catalyst 4500's because they are EOL and dont speak OSPF (which we really want) Its not my area of expertise so I cant say for sure if we really need to replace these units but for my company the estimated costs of 250K euro is a huge problem. Is there any way to cut down on costs (without moving from cisco devices), I heard the 4500´s can speak ospf but would need an upgrade of sorts? edit: version: IOS (tm) Catalyst 4000 L3 Switch Software (cat4000-I9K91S-M), Version 12.2(20)EW, EARLY DEPLOYMENT RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1) supervisor: WS-X4013+ Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series Supervisor Engine II-Plus density: WS-X4306-GB Cisco Catalyst 4500 Gigabit Ethernet Module, 6 Ports (GBIC) WS-X4306-GB Cisco Catalyst 4500 Gigabit Ethernet Module, 6 Ports (GBIC) WS-X4548-GB-RJ45 Cisco Catalyst 4500 Enhanced 48-Port 10/100/1000 Module (RJ-45) WS-X4548-GB-RJ45 Cisco Catalyst 4500 Enhanced 48-Port 10/100/1000 Module (RJ-45) WS-X4548-GB-RJ45 Cisco Catalyst 4500 Enhanced 48-Port 10/100/1000 Module (RJ-45)

  • How to configure machines in a public subnet with two gateways?

    - by Shtééf
We have a single public /24 subnet, with a BGP router as the primary gateway. Now I'm interested in configuring a second router for redundancy. How do I deal with multiple gateways on the servers in our public subnet? I found some other questions related to multiple gateways that seem to deal with NAT set-ups. In my situation, the servers all have public routed IP-addresses. So from what I can tell, it doesn't really matter which route incoming or outgoing packets take. But I figure the servers need some way of telling when one of the gateways is down, and route around it? Is this accomplished with protocols such as OSPF? And do I need to deploy this on all my servers?

  • Compare Quagga to XORP

    - by Sargun Dhillon
What do you think of Quagga compared to XORP as a dynamic software routing engine? What are the technical merits of each engine comparatively? Additionally, what do most people think of them from a programming view. Who has manipulated networks using these enginers? I was wondering from an OSPF, routing, BGP protocol user's perpspective.

  • Are neighbors formed in EIGRP and OSPF always directly connectly?

    - by xczzhh
I always thought that neighbors formed in EIGRP were not necessarily directly connected because the only requirement for two routers to be neighbors is that they share the same Autonomous System and K-values, but it seems that I was wrong. I have looked up several books, they do not seem to give a clear answer. And I am even more confused with OSPF... Please, give me some light here. Thank you.

  • IPv6 routing to another interface

    - by Robert
I'm trying to get an IPv6 enabled router to forward data from one interface to the other and I'm having issues. When following this example (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk872/technologies_configuration_example09186a0080ba6106.shtml) I am able to get full connectivity between all 3 routers in my simulator. However when I try to use only 1 router; I can't get connectivity to the other interfacs on the same router. My PC is directly attached to FA 0/1 and it can ping the router's interface. However it can not ping any other interface on the router(which unless I'm missing something it should be able to do). The router on the other hand can ping everything. I thought static routes might help; but the router already has routes for everything. I'm thinking the packet should come in; router looks up the destination in it's ipv6 routing table and then realizes it's for itself, and should respond. I thought maybe it couldn't respond directly; so I tried pinging a device like 2001:0000:0000:1000::2, but i don't get a response. I'm running on IOS 12.4. I'm missing something(hopefully simple), but I just can't see what it is. With only 1 router; how do I enable my PC to talk to the other subnets? Thank you in advance, Robert Topology: R1 FA 0/0: 2001:0000:0000:0000::1/52 FA 0/1: 2001:0000:0000:1000::1/52 FA 1/0: 2001:0000:0000:2000::1/52 Loopback 0: 2001:0000:0000:3000::1/52 PC: 2001:0000:0000:2000::2/52 PC plugs directly into FA 1/0 on the router. --- Configuration --- ipv6 cef ipv6 unicast routing interface Loopback0 no ip address ipv6 address 2001:0000:0000:3000::1/52 ipv6 enable ! interface FastEthernet0/0 no ip address duplex auto speed auto ipv6 address 2001:0000:0000::1/52 ipv6 enable ! interface FastEthernet0/1 no ip address duplex auto speed auto ipv6 address 2001:0000:0000:1000::1/52 ipv6 enable ! interface FastEthernet1/0 no ip address duplex auto speed auto ipv6 address 2001:0000:0000:2000::1/52 ipv6 enable --- end of config --- --- routing table --- IPV6Lab#show ipv6 route IPv6 Routing Table - 10 entries Codes: C - Connected, L - Local, S - Static, R - RIP, B - BGP U - Per-user Static route I1 - ISIS L1, I2 - ISIS L2, IA - ISIS interarea, IS - ISIS summary O - OSPF intra, OI - OSPF inter, OE1 - OSPF ext 1, OE2 - OSPF ext 2 ON1 - OSPF NSSA ext 1, ON2 - OSPF NSSA ext 2 C 2001:0000:0000::/52 [0/0] via ::, FastEthernet0/0 L 2001:0000:0000::1/128 [0/0] via ::, FastEthernet0/0 C 2001:0000:0000:1000::/52 [0/0] via ::, FastEthernet0/1 L 2001:0000:0000:1000::1/128 [0/0] via ::, FastEthernet0/1 C 2001:0000:0000:2000::/52 [0/0] via ::, FastEthernet1/0 L 2001:0000:0000:2000::1/128 [0/0] via ::, FastEthernet1/0 C 2001:0000:0000:3000::/52 [0/0] via ::, Loopback0 L 2001:0000:0000:3000::1/128 [0/0] via ::, Loopback0 L FE80::/10 [0/0] via ::, Null0 L FF00::/8 [0/0] via ::, Null0 --- end of routing table ---

  • Tunnel is up but cannot ping directly connected network

    - by drmanalo
We configured a site-to-site VPN and here is the topology. I control the network on the left but not the one on the right. All devices in our network has public IPs. Server---ASA5505---Cisco887======Internet=====ASA5510---devices I can see the tunnel is up and can do extended ping using a loopback interface. From the 10.175 and 10.165 networks, they can also ping my loopback address. I can also dial in using a Cisco VPN client, and can connect to the devices on the right. #show crypto session Crypto session current status Interface: Vlan3 Profile: xxx-profile Session status: UP-ACTIVE Peer: 213.121.x.x port 500 IKEv1 SA: local 77.245.x.x/500 remote 213.121.x.x/500 Active IPSEC FLOW: permit ip 10.0.20.0/255.255.255.240 10.175.0.0/255.255.128.0 Active SAs: 0, origin: crypto map IPSEC FLOW: permit ip 10.0.20.0/255.255.255.240 10.165.0.0/255.255.192.0 Active SAs: 2, origin: crypto map #ping 10.165.29.39 source loopback 2 Type escape sequence to abort. Success rate is 100 percent (5/5), round-trip min/avg/max = 16/17/20 ms My problem is the devices on the right cannot reach my server. They could only ping the loopback address and nothing else. • Cisco: Site-to-site VPN with cisco 878 and ASA weirdness

    - by cpf
I currently have 2 sites, both connected to each other through 2 firewalls / routers in a site-to-site VPN. Pinging from server to server (Using 2mb/2mb SDSL) through that VPN obviously works, however, at one site, we have another internet connection (7m/400k ADSL), and only the link between the two sites should be on the other connection. All pc's should go over the other connection for internet, just communication between servers & Communication between pc's and the server at the other side should go through there too. What is configured at the moment is the server is using the SDSL directly as default gateway. Since it's not intended to surf anything it is a safe config. PC's are configured on the ADSL as default gateway. Now I wanted to route through everything that uses the range used on the other site, it should be sent from the ADSL modem to the SDSL modem, which has the VPN connection. I figured I could use OSPF to do so, however, OSPF doesn't seem to "detect" the range of the external site. Also (due to bad ip subnetting thanks to the other administrator), the ip used internally as the server on the other site also exists on the internet (causing a lot of confusion), so rdp-ing from our server to the server of the other site works (somehow), but tracerouting on the SDSL router (which should actually, in my opinion, go over the VPN) actually goes all over the internet. My question(s): Why doesn't the SDSL router ping the external ip through VPN, but the server does? Why can't I route from the ADSL router to the SDSL over VPN? I would seriously appreciate some help, since I can't figure out why it does it like this.

Hi, everyone I've setup a drbd replication between two machines and used a drbd block device as storage for a kvm machine. Everything is running well. However I'm in doubt if this setup is ok to use. From what I've read so far on the internet, people tend to use drbd-ospf-qcow2_file as storage for their virtual machines.

Each Cisco ASA has 3 or 4 LANs attached to them. The IP routing part is taken care of by OSPF. My problem is on another level. A computer connected to one of the LANs attached to an ASA has no problem communicating with the outside world. The outside world being anything "after" the ASA. My problem is that I am completely unable to have them communicate with another LAN connected to the same ASA. To rephrase this, I am unable to send traffic from one interface of a given ASA to another interface of the same ASA. My configuration is the following : ! hostname Fuji ! interface Ethernet0/0 speed 100 duplex full nameif outside security-level 0 ip address 10.0.0.2 255.255.255.0 no shutdown ! interface Ethernet0/1 speed 100 duplex full nameif cs4 no shutdown security-level 100 ip address 10.1.4.1 255.255.255.0 ! interface Ethernet0/2 speed 100 duplex full no shutdown ! interface Ethernet0/2.15 vlan 15 nameif cs5 security-level 100 ip address 10.1.5.1 255.255.255.0 ! interface Ethernet0/2.16 vlan 16 nameif cs6 security-level 100 ip address 10.1.6.1 255.255.255.0 ! interface Management0/0 speed 100 duplex full nameif management security-level 100 ip address 10.6.0.252 255.255.255.0 ! access-list nat_cs4 extended permit ip 10.1.4.0 255.255.255.0 any access-list acl_cs4 extended permit ip 10.1.4.0 255.255.255.0 any access-list nat_cs5 extended permit ip 10.1.5.0 255.255.255.0 any access-list acl_cs5 extended permit ip 10.1.5.0 255.255.255.0 any access-list nat_cs6 extended permit ip 10.1.6.0 255.255.255.0 any access-list acl_cs6 extended permit ip 10.1.6.0 255.255.255.0 any ! access-list nat_outside extended permit ip any any access-list acl_outside extended permit ip any 10.1.4.0 255.255.255.0 access-list acl_outside extended permit ip any 10.1.5.0 255.255.255.0 access-list acl_outside extended permit ip any 10.1.6.0 255.255.255.0 ! nat (outside) 0 access-list nat_outside nat (cs4) 0 access-list nat_cs4 nat (cs5) 0 access-list nat_cs5 nat (cs6) 0 access-list nat_cs6 ! static (outside,cs4) 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 netmask 0.0.0.0 static (outside,cs5) 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 netmask 0.0.0.0 static (outside,cs6) 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 netmask 0.0.0.0 ! static (cs4,outside) 10.1.4.0 10.1.4.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 static (cs4,cs5) 10.1.4.0 10.1.4.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 static (cs4,cs6) 10.1.4.0 10.1.4.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 ! static (cs5,outside) 10.1.5.0 10.1.5.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 static (cs5,cs4) 10.1.5.0 10.1.5.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 static (cs5,cs6) 10.1.5.0 10.1.5.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 ! static (cs6,outside) 10.1.6.0 10.1.6.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 static (cs6,cs4) 10.1.6.0 10.1.6.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 static (cs6,cs5) 10.1.6.0 10.1.6.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 ! access-group acl_outside in interface outside access-group acl_cs4 in interface cs4 access-group acl_cs5 in interface cs5 access-group acl_cs6 in interface cs6 ! router ospf 1 network 10.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 area 1 network 10.1.4.0 255.255.255.0 area 1 network 10.1.5.0 255.255.255.0 area 1 network 10.1.6.0 255.255.255.0 area 1 log-adj-changes ! There is nothing really complicated in this configuration. It just NATs from one interface to another and that's it. I have tried enabling same-security-traffic permit inter-interface but that doesn't help. I therefore must be missing something a little bit more complicated. Does anyone know why I cannot foward traffic from one interface to another ? Thank you in advance for your help, Antoine

  • dynamic routing between openvpn tunnels

    - by pQd
i'm thinking about using dynamic routing [ OSPF or RIP ] via OpenVPN tunnels. right now i have few offices connected in full mesh, but this is not scalable solution as we add more locations. i would like to avoid situation when plenty of internal traffic is affected if one of two vpn termination points that i plan to use is down. do you have similar configuration working in production? if so - what routing daemon did you use - quagga? something else? did you encounter any problems? thanks!

  • Excel IP address and subnet to network and inverse mask [closed]

    - by Steve Dailey
We need a script, marco or something in excel where we can take list like below interface Vlan100 ip address 192.168.1.3 255.255.255.0 interface Vlan101 ip address 192.168.2.3 255.255.255.128 interface Vlan102 ip address 192.168.2.130 255.255.255.128 interface Vlan103 ip address 192.168.3.3 255.255.255.240 etc... and produce a list like below ospf 1 undo silent-interface Vlan-interface100 undo silent-interface Vlan-interface101 undo silent-interface Vlan-interface102 undo silent-interface Vlan-interface103 area 0.0.0.0 network 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.255 network 192.168.2.0 0.0.0.127 network 192.168.2.128 0.0.0.127 network 192.168.3.0 0.0.0.15 so it will need to take an ip address/subnet mask and convert them to network number/inverse mask. I believe I can handle the Vlan manipulation with a substitution so no need to spend time on that.

  • Is there a way to automate testing for a GNS3 network topology?

    - by Chedy2149
I'm working on an MPLS backbone topology using GNS3, this topology includes configuration of several networking technologies such as IPv6, BGP, OSPF, IPv6 to IPv4 dynamic tunneling, MPLS based VPNs, MPLS based traffic engineering... So I'm a beginner with basic knowledge in networking (Ipv4 addressing, basic routing and switching) and I can't just easly test if my topology works or not, moreover fiddling with configuration I've noticed that sometimes when getting MPLS config right and missing BGP config all my topology is messed up. Given that I use Cisco 7200 series routers, is there any way to build a test harness for my topology in order to guarentee correctness with a single push button automated process?

  • Configuring Windows 2003 As A Router

    - by Sean M
I am trying to configure a Windows 2003 server to act as a router, so that the two subnetworks that I'm dealing with can communicate with one another without NAT. I am mostly sure that I have configured Windows 2003 incorrectly, and I'm finding it very difficult to drill down through Google results to something helpful. I have a 192.168.1.0/24 network that is my "production" network (in the sense that I'm in trouble if I screw it up) and a 10.0.0.0/8 network that is my test network. The 192.168.1.0 network is ruled by a gateway whose routing table looks like this (my address redacted): The Windows 2003 server, "prime," is multihomed. Its network adapters are at 192.168.1.122, (as seen above), 10.0.0.1, and 10.0.0.2. I added the Routing and Remote Access role to it, and enabled LAN routing. I do not have it using RIP or other routing protocols. Its current routing table is shown below. To me, it looks like all of the right routes are there for traffic to pass between the 192.168.1.0 network and the 10.0.0.0 network. However, traffic does not pass. The 10.0.0.11 and .12 clients cannot be contacted from the 192.168.1.0 network. When I use traceroute to try to get to them, the trace gets to the Windows 2003 server's 192.168.1.122 address, then produces nothing but "* * *" timeouts. When I try to traceroute to 192.168.1.1 from a 10.0.0.0-network client, I get "destination host unreachable." However, I know that the routing is working at least a little, because from the 192.168.1.0 network, I can connect to the Windows server just fine by referring to it as 10.0.0.1. What static routes would allow me to contact 10.0.0.11 and .12 from the 192.168.1.0 network? Is it possible to tell the Windows server "since you are a DHCP/DNS server, you already know routes to get to machines that are getting IP addresses from you, please add those to your routing table" ? Will using RIP or OSPF on the Windows server actually be helpful in this situation?
