Windows 2003 - logging off the Administrator account makes web applications inaccessible

Consider a web application installed on a Windows Server 2003 SP2 machine with the admin account. The application is accessible in the server as well as in the network when at least one session of the admin account is logged in. If there are no active sessions of the admin account, the web application is not accessible via the network, nor accessible locally when logged in with another user account. What would cause the web application to be inaccessible there's no Administrator session? Please suggest anything that might help find the solution.

BITS http download job fails to connect for owner Local SYSTEM account

A service I have written that uses BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service) to auto update itself is having a problem on some machines (Windows 7 so far). I have been investigating and have discovered that some of the jobs that my service adds to the bits queue are failing immediately with the error code 0x80072efd (a connection with this server could not be established). The is not problem with connecting to the server for the download as it works fine on the same machine using IE (or any other web browser) and other clients can connect and update from the same server. I tried using the BITSADMIN.exe tool to add the jobs manually and they worked ok. I then changed the account my service was running under to the network service account so the bits jobs would be created with a different owner and the jobs completed successfully. My question is I don't want to run my service as this account as it wont have the required local permissions, so how to I change the permissions of the local system user to allow it to download from the HTTP source, I'm not aware of any way of this being restricted for this account but it obviously is.

Skype account migration / username change

Some time ago now I created myself a Skype account. I've since amassed a number of contacts, and also realised that the username I chose really isn't one I wish to continue using, for a variety of reasons. Services like Twitter and GitHub offer username-change functionality; I can't find this in Skype. Am I missing something, or does it just not exist? If, as I suspect, it doesn't exist, is there anything I can do to migrate my contacts across to a new, more sensibly-named, account, or am I going to find myself having to manually publicise my account name change and adding contacts to the new account one-by-one?

Windows XP: Consequences of setting a password for an account

I do not quite understand how Windows (specifically Windows XP) handles accounts with/without passwords. As far as I can see, on a fresh Windows XP install I have one default account which has admin rights does not have a password will auto-login (without password prompt) when the computer boots What happens if I set a password for this account? Will it still auto-login? Or will it always prompt for the PW? And generally, what consequences does it have if I set a password? I noted that Scheduled Tasks apparently cannot run under an account w/o password (creating a scheduled task will prompt for the account PW). Is there anything that will not work with a password set? Why is it even possible to have accounts without a password? I have some Unix/Linux background, but the concepts appear a little different under Windows.

How to copying OS X account settings to a new user account?

I accidentally renamed the username of my account on my Mac (running OS X 10.4.11) and tried renaming back to what it was but now I have two accounts (the one I want to use which has all my preferences, applications, mail boxes, etc., and the new one). Is it possible to copy my settings from my original account into this new user name? When I open my computer, it defaults to this new account, and I cannot gain access to all my work documents, mail settings etc.

Understanding Authorized Access to your Google Account

I'm having trouble understanding what I'm am granting to sites when they have "Authorized Access to my Google Account." This is how I see what has authorized access: Log into gmail. Click on the link that is my name in the upper-right corner, and from the drop-down select Account. From the list of links to the left, select Security. Click on Edit next to Authorized applications and sites. Authenticate again. At the top of the page, I see a set of sites that have authorized access to my account in various ways. I'm having trouble finding out information about what is being told to me here. There's no "help" link anywhere on the page and my Google searches are coming up unproductive. From the looks of what I see there, Google has access to my Google calendar. I feel comfortable about that, I think. But other sites have authorization to "Sign in using your Google account". My question is, what exactly does that authorization mean? What do the sites that have authorization to "Sign in using my Google account" have the power to do? I hope that this simply means that they authorize using the same criterion that gmail does. I assume that this doesn't grant them the ability to access my email. Can someone please calm my paranoia by describing (or simply pointing me to a site that describes) what these terms mean exactly? Also, if you have any thoughts about the safety of this feature, please share. Thanks!

Script to Add an IMAP account to Outlook 2010

Im looking to for a script that allows me to add an IMAP account to an already existing email profile. All of our users have an Exchange account as their main email account. We have several shared IMAP accounts that these users need access to. Rather than go to each machine and add each account they need access to over and over, Im hoping there is a script of some nature where I can plug in the needed info (username, password, server, security settings, etc) I then plan to run said script remotely on each machine using powershell. I have found a couple scripts in my searches, but nothing recent, and the majority of them revolve around creating profiles, not adding accounts to an already existing profile. Thoughts?

Deleted exchange account still being auto suggested

I set up a new hire in our domain in exchange. When he arrived yesterday I discovered his name had been mispelled. I deleted his account and created a new account with proper spelling. The problem now is his old email address is being being suggested whenever anyone types in his first name. Users email the bad address get a bounce and create more help desk tickets. Is there a way to update exchange or purge the bad account?

I can't use a custom theme on a network account

I'm an administrator for the computer I use, but I'm using a network account. I can set custom themes (non-Microsoft, I mean) on my local account but not on the network account. It's the same machine, just different accounts/domains. I tried to repatch the files from the network account, but it says they're already patched. Any ideas why this won't work? The themes don't show up in the Personalize menu, and I can't just double click the .theme file from the Themes folder in Windows 7 Pro. Allow members of a group to be unlocked by a specific account on AD

Background I'm creating a service to allow support staff to enable their firecall accounts out of hours (i.e. if there's an issue in the night and we can't get hold of someone with admin rights, another member of the support team can enable their personal firecall account on AD, which has previously been setup with admin rights). This service also logs a reason for the change, alerts key people, and a bunch of other bits to ensure that this change of access is audited / so we can ensure these temporary admin rights are used in the proper way. To do this I need the service account which my service runs under to have permissions to enable users on active directory. Ideally I'd like to lock this down so that the service account can only enable/disable users in a particular AD security group. Question How do you grant access to an account to enable/disable users who are members of a particular security group in AD? Backup Question If it's not possible to do this by security group, is there a suitable alternative? i.e. could it be done by OU, or would it be best to write a script to loop through all members of the security group and update the permissions on the objects (firecall accounts) themselves? Domain Password change causes Outlook saved POP passwords to fail

I have a user that repeatedly has this issue. A 3 month password change is enforced on the domain, but when the user changes his, Office 2003 will re-ask for the POP account password, even though it has not changed. Entering the correct POP account password causes it to repeatedly fail. If you go and change the POP password and enter the new one, then it is fine. He's the only one with this issue, but also the only user with both an Exchange and POP account. Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance :)

Windows 7 Account Settings Vanished

So I came home and stumbled upon a bit of a mystery. When I got home my brother was using my desktop PC that was running Windows 7 (I have accounts for my 2 brothers and my mom on the machine, but mine is the only admin account). After he finished his game he logged out and I logged in to my account, but found only strangeness. My windows account seems to have been somewhat "reset", meaning: my quick launch shortcuts were gone my dropbox account did not automatically login my pidgin accounts were no longer there I had to relogin Steam iTunes could not launch (I had hooked up my iDevice before logging in) The Documents/Pictures/Music shortcuts in the start menu no longer work However, despite that: my desktop wallpaper was still correct my documents folder was still there in c:\Users\my account name\My Documents as expected Google Chrome settings seem to have been retained other accounts on the same machine seem to be fine I asked my brother if he had installed anything strange during the day, he only installed Yahoo Messenger. I last used the machine around 24 hours ago and it was fine then. I'm not sure what else has been affected. I'm inclined to just create a new admin user for me to use, but I'd like to have some idea of what actually happened.

Network Service Account not Inherited in ACL

I have a problem with files that are being moved into a folder that is set to replace permissions on child objects for the Network Service account. The process is that a media file is uploaded to a website, and is encoded by a piece of software. This moves the file to a folder but for some reason the files that get moved there don't inherit the Network Service account in security permissions. If I manually move a file into the folder the permission is inherited. I have used the effective permissions tool to check the Network Service account security permissions on the parent folder but this shows that there is nothing overriding it - the account has full permissions. Can try and supply more info if required, but any answers grealty appreciated!

Java Slick2d - Mouse picking how to take into account camera

When I move it it obviously changes the viewport so my mouse picking is off. My camera is just a float x and y and I use g.translate(-cam.cameraX+400, -cam.cameraY+300); to translate the graphics. I have the numbers hard coded just for testing purposes. After completing an exam at a testing center, you will login to CertView to access and print your exam scores by selecting the See My New Exam Results Now link or the Print My New Exam Results Now link from the homepage. This will provide access to all certification and exam history in one place through Oracle, providing tighter integration with other activities at Oracle. This change in policy will also increase security around data privacy. AUTHENTICATE YOUR CERTVIEW ACCOUNT NOW One very important step you must take is to authenticate your CertView account BEFORE taking your exam. This way, if there are any issues with authorization, you have time to get these sorted out before testing. Keep in mind that it can take up to 3 business days for a CertView account to be manually authenticated, so completing this process before testing is key! You will need to create a web account at PearsonVUE prior to registering for your exam and you will need to create an Oracle Web Account prior to authenticating your CertView account. How do I hide my custom Unity panel indicators from another user account on the same machine?

I created a second user account on my machine, making it a "standard" user account. When I log into that account, most of the panel indicators I've added in my own administrator user account show up here as well -- but not all of them (e.g., the cpufreq indicator shows up in both accounts, but the multiload indicator does not show up in the second account). I'd like to prevent everything but the default panel indicators from a fresh Ubuntu install showing up in the second user's panel.

Can IIS admin change password of Windows Service account

We have a service account defined for anonymous access which is used for several web sites hosted on the web server. This account has access to several network resources like report server, file servers and so on. While deploying a new web site, we used the same service account for anonymous access. IIS takes the username/password for the account and then a dialog opens for confirm password. Accidently, we gave a wrong password in both the text boxes, the new site with wrong password is working fine but all other previously hosted sites which were using the service account, started giving the unautorized access error. Is it possible that when we entered wrong password for the new web site, the password of the account got reset and all sites stopped functioning?

Soql query to get all related contacts of an account in an opportunity

i have SOQL query which queries for some records based on a where condition. select id, name,account.name ... <other fields> from opportunity where eventname__c='Test Event' i also need to get the related contact details for the account in the opportunity. ie i need to add the email ids of contact who all are part of the account in the opportunity. For each opportunity, i need to get all the contacts emailids who are associated with the account in opportunity. I cant really figure out how to approach this. referring the documentation i can get the contact info of a account using the query SELECT Name, ( SELECT LastName FROM Contacts ) FROM Account How can i use this along with opportunity? Adding FreeBSD user upon first login

Is it possible, to achieve the proposed behavior on my FreeBSD 8.2 server: New user ssh's into my server. He supplies as 'Login:' his student index number and a new, locked account is created with random password that is sent to his [email protected] mail as authentication method. After he logs in with this password, account is fully created and activated/unlocked and the user is asked/forced to change the pass for a new one.
