    I'm using Visual Studio 2010 Express, working on a Silverlight 4 project in C#.   • Xcode / Interface Builder - better workflow from designer to coder?

    Were dealing with some pretty custom UI elements while building our OSX / Cocoa and iPhone / IPad apps. I was wondering if anyone has good recommendations or tricks for getting a better workflow between UI designers and coders while using Xcode / Interface Builder? It seems that many things require programmatic settings with UI editing in Cocoa... if you stray from the pre-built UI elements then you can't really easily drag-drop build a UI... instead we end up handing off a design doc ( photoshop/illustrator ) and then the poor developer has to deal with recreating this masterpiece in code or by using interface builder - usually a combination of both. This work flow is leading us to not so great results and we have to re-iterate around the UI elements to get them to work better. We love CSS and / or Flash designer to developer workflow where the UI could look exactly as it should and the hand off to developer was more seamless. Is there anyone out there who has some tricks - or insights into getting better workflow when using tools like Xcode / Interface Builder and doing Cocoa apps?

  • How do I backup my C++ Builder component installation?

    Hi I finally have my c++ Builder 2010 installation the way I want it, with all my components upgraded and installed. (touch wood) I have been working with c++builder since version 1 and I know from countless previous traumatic experiences that this state of affairs could change in an instant. I would like to backup the installation and component set. Is there a way to do this? A tool perhaps? A menu command that I have maybe missed all these years? I don't want to have to reinstall all the components from the bpl source again. I make nightly backup images of my entire drive, I would like to do this for c++builder only if possible. If it's a matter of simply copying files, which files would I need to copy? Are there entries in the registry that would need to be restored? Thanks in advance for any thoughts and suggestions

    I'm using scriptaculous Builder to generate some DOM elements dynamically, and one of them is a link tag. I wasn't sure how to generate this with the click callback inline along with the rest of the Builder code, so I'm generating the link tag ahead of time and then inserting it with the rest of the Builder phase. The problem is that the callback for the link is never actually executed when I click the link, and the URL bar changes to http://localhost/foo/bar/# instead.     I write SQL query every now and then, I could easily write them freehand, but sometimes I do create SQL queries using SQL Query Designers for various reason. (I wont start to enumerate them here and/or argue about their usefulness, so let's just say they are sometime useful.) Anyway, I currently use 2 Query Designers : SQL server management studio's Query Designer. Visual Studio 2010's Query Builder (must often within the Table adapter Query Configuration Wizard.) There's something I hate about those two (I don't know about the others), it's the way they throw away my Code formatting of SQL queries after an edit. Is there any way to configure something to automatically reformat the SQL output or is there any external tool/plug-in that I could use to do that job?

  • How to deploy on a remote machine using hudson's WAS Builder Plugin?

    I have a hudson build server (Windows) that does not have Websphere installed. I created a Hudson node that I connect to via SSH. I also installed the WAS Builder Plugin to run jython scripts on the AIX machine. The job that uses the WAS Builder Plugin is tied to the AIX box. I run into errors. Does anybody know, whether that setup might work or if a different setup will work for the WAS Builder Plugin?     I am not sure if there's an answer for this already -- couldn't find one for this (hopefully common) setup: I recently converted one of my ColdFusion projects to deploy via ANT. I have a local ant script that instructs a remote server to check out the code, and run the application's specific build file, remotely on the server. I have a few endpoints: Live - production (on the production server) Staging - on the production server, different datasource, etc. dev - on the local box. What I have run into it seems is a simple and common problem. I now need ANT to create any build, even locally. Fine, created a local endpoint and it configures for my box. Issue? How do I get it to show up as a project (automatically if possible) in Eclipse/ColdFusion builder. What I envision is instead of checking out a branch via the subversion plugin in CFBuilder/Eclipse, I now use ANT to do that for me. Since I use ColdFusion Builder (Eclipse + Adobe's plugin), I have all of eclipse's tools and plugins available to solve the problem of : how can I best call ANT from within Eclipse/ColdFusion Builder, to setup the local build as a project that I can develop and work on? I think when I check the code back in from the local box, I'd have to be sure not to check in any files with local config paths, etc. I hope this is a detailed and clear enough explanation, if not, please ask.   • Building a regex builder

    I am a beginner in programming in general and web development in particular. I am especially bad at regular expressions. Recently I was involved in building a couple of cPanel plugins(Perl-CGI) and that's when I realized how bad I am in regex. As a result, I have decided to build an online regex builder - this will help me to learn regex and help other struggling with regex. I have checked out GSkinner, Rubular and a couple of others like regexpal. It seemed to be a little difficult to use, hence i thought of writing another one. I do not know which tool is best suited for the job. should I write it in Perl or Python? My skill level is between beginner and intermediate in both those languages. What would be a good starting point - building it for the CLI or for the browser? I plan to get a string as an input, ask if the user want to search or search and replace, enter the search string (and the replace string where applicable) and then generate a regex. Would this be the right way to go?

  • Platform Builder: PBWorkspaces CESysgen.bat Not Used?

    One of the things that I like about Windows CE is that I am always learning new things, but in this case it is a bit disturbing. We working with Multi UI (MUI) this week and discovered some problems with Windows CE 5.0 and Chinese language support. These problems don’t exist in CE 6.0. The problem was that in the batch files in Public\CEBASE\oak\misc, specifically weceshellfe.bat, some of the shell components needed are only included if certain LOCALs are selected. English is not one of them, I suppose this is because someone didn’t think that we would ever use them and English – doh. No problem, just work around this in PBWorkspaces\<workspace>\WINCE500\<BPS>\cesysgen.bat. But that didn’t work. After a lot of trial and error, what I determined is that this cesysgen.bat isn’t actually used by Platform Builder any more.  Instead, in that same folder is a <workspace>.bat file that is called by Public\CEBASE\oak\misc\cesysgen.bat. That leads to some new problems though, but solvable, in that what I really wanted to do was add a fix after the batch files in CEBASE run, but <workspace>.bat runs before the other batch files in CEBASE. So what I finally came up with was to add the fix to the PASS2 handling in <workspace>.bat. Copyright © 2010 – Bruce Eitman All Rights Reserved
