  Hi, I'm using VS 2005 and .NET framework 2.0 SP2 to build an application with a datagridview in it. I'm using Microsoft Word 11.0 Object Library to do the spelling checker on one of the field in datagridview. When it detected a spelling and grammar window would pop-up open on top of the datagridview. The problem I got was when I moved the pop-up window to the new location, there's still an image of the pop-up window left behind the previous location. The more I moved the more of those copied image would be created on screen. How I can overcome this problem? Thanks in advance, Andrew

• How to have a PHP Website tool with a version check

  Hi, So I work on a small php website tool that a few people use and what I'm looking to have added is a little version checker in it. The tool is normally hosted by others on different servers/domains/whatever have you so I'm having a bit of a trouble figuring out how I can accomplish this and do so in the best possible method. So what I'm looking to do is have a webpage that just has a number on it which is the latest version. Lets say 3.2.2 is displayed on www.myawesomephptool.com/version.html in some way shape or form . Now on their installation when they open up their admin page it pulls in that 3.2.2 as the latest version to see if they are on that version. So trying to keep it simple on requirements too. • Ruby email_veracity_checker getting Recipient OK for invalid emails

  I was testing out email_veracity_checker from rails console and found that when I tested a google apps domain (w/ catchall), yahoo and another company domain, the smtp server always returned 250 recipient ok for invalid emails (wellformed, but bogus). It seems that these servers are always returning OK perhaps to prevent email harvesting. But it does seem to raise the question 'why even validate up-front', is this approach even valid in today's environment? Note: gmail did return 550 email account doesn't exist for invalid. related to How check if an email exist without send in Ruby? • Opening Visual Studio created XAML in Expression Blend

  I have created a console application using Visual Studio 2008. In a few cases, this application shows a WPF dialog. Now, the design view of Visual Studio is a little limited, so I'd like to edit this dialog using Expression Blend 3. Blend does not seem to have an option to load individual XAML files, and when I open my solution in Blend, only the XAML code is displayed when I try to edit the dialog. Edit: I've noticed, that no IntelliSense is available in the text view either. When I create a new WPF Project inside Blend, and copy my dialog there (overwriten MainWindows.xaml), I get a design view. What do I have to do to actually get a design view here?   It sounds silly, but I can't get it. Why can the expression [] == [] be typed at all? More specifically, which type (in class Eq) is inferred to the type of list elements? In a ghci session, I see the following: Prelude> :t (==[]) (==[]) :: (Eq [a]) => [a] -> Bool But the constraint Eq [a] implies Eq a also, as is shown here: Prelude> (==[]) ([]::[IO ()]) <interactive>:1:1: No instance for (Eq (IO ())) arising from use of `==' at <interactive>:1:1-2 Probable fix: add an instance declaration for (Eq (IO ())) In the definition of `it': it = (== []) ([] :: [IO ()]) Thus, in []==[], the type checker must assume that the list element is some type a that is in class Eq. But which one? The type of [] is just [a], and this is certainly more general than Eq a = [a].

• Sharing a mex64 file across computers

  I have a mex64 dll compiled on my machine. I used Matlab 2009b with VS2008 Pro to compile the dll. The dll works fine on my Matlab installation. I want a colleague to use the dll so I sent it to him and he gets the following error message when trying to use the dll: ??? Invalid MEX-file 'filename.mexw64': The specified module could not be found. My current assumption is that this is caused because he uses an older Matlab version or missing a dll that I have. I ran dependency checker and asked him to check that he has all the listed dlls. I am still waiting for him to confirm his Matlab version. What other reasons can cause this and can the Matlab version make a difference? (I mean R2009a when I have R2009B and not a huge version diff)

  I'm working on an automatic trading system. What sorts of safe-guards should I have in place? The main idea I have is to have multiple pieces checking each other. I will have a second independent little process which will also connect to the same trading account and monitor simple things, like ensuring the total net position does not go over a certain limit, or that there are no more than N orders in 10 minutes for example, or more than M positions open simultaneously. You can also check that the actual open positions correspond to what the strategy process thinks it actually holds. As a bonus I could run this checker process on a different machine/network provider. Besides the checks in the main strategy, this will ensure that whatever weird bug occurs, nothing really bad can happen. Any other things I should monitor and be aware of?

  My primary IDE is Visual Studio 2005 and I have a large C/C++ project. I'm interested in what thread analysis tools are recommended. By that I mean, I want a tool, static or dynamic, to help find race conditions, deadlocks, and the like. So far I've casually researched the following: 1. Intel Thread Checker: I don't believe that it ties into VS 2005? 2. Valgrind/Helgrind: free. 3. Coverity: this is a costly tool if i understand correctly. Anyone have experience with any of these or other? I'd much appreciate any advice. Thank you.

  I hope this question is clear enough -- if not let me know :) What API would I use when I want to write a procedure at runtime and then just run it eventually at low priority while continuing to do the important stuff right now? Example: link checker 1. I write a blog post with links represented by Link objects. I publish the post. 2. Eventually (at very low priority) the system gets around to fetching the URL of each Link object to make sure it's not broken and indicates that in a property of the Link object. 3. When a user visits my blog post, the render code that turns Link objects into HTML knows whether the links have been checked. I'm assuming there's a very general purpose API for doing this kind of "eventually/low priority" stuff.

• Should I use custom exceptions to control the flow of application?

  Is it a good practise to use custom business exceptions (e.g. BusinessRuleViolationException) to control the flow of user-errors/user-incorrect-inputs??? The classic approach: I have a web service, where I have 2 methods, one is the 'checker' (UsernameAlreadyExists()) and the other one is 'creator' (CreateUsername())... So if I want to create a username, I have to do 2 roundtrips to webservice, 1.check, 2.if check is OK, create. What about using UsernameAlreadyExistsException? So I call only the 2. web service method (CrateUsername()), which contains the check and if not successfull, it throws the UsernameAlreadyExistsException. So the end goal is to have only one round trip to web service and the checking can be contained also in other web service methods (so I avoid calling the UsernameAlreadyExists() all the times..). Furthermore I can use this kind of business error handling with other web service calls completely avoiding the checking prior the call.

  Dear All, I recently started using Mac OS X for a flex/actionscript project and having a problem with flash player debugger plugin for the browsers: OSX: 10.6.3 Browsers I tried: firefox, safari and chrome Flashplayer debug "Flash Player 10 Plugin content debugger (Intel-based Macs) Whenever I open a page containing a flash content, my browser crashes due to flash player plugin's crash. I checked the version of my flash player debug plugin with http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html and as the version checker is written in flash, my browser crashes a few seconds later. I am using version 10,0,42,2 (debug edition: yes) This is what I see in the crash log: Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS) Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x000000001887e3e4 Any ideas how can I track this issue ? I added some automated unit test with a high test code coverage (95%), but the scope is only the static part. I got some code metrics as complexity and readability. I'm testing my code with a rule checker with MiSRA support, and of course fixed all warnings. I'm testing the code with a static analyzer and again fixed all warnings. What can I do now to test - and improve - the reliability of my OS ? How about the dynamic part ?

• Good link checking tool?

  Hi all Can anyone recommend a good, free link checker to check all pages within a domain? Ideally a browser add-on or a web app (otherwise something that runs on OSX). Crucially it needs to follow links recursively within a domain. Links outside the domain should be followed to a depth of 1, but not checked recursively. This is for the fairly common situation where you want to check all pages on your own site, but not evaluate the links on e.g. Google's homepage. I can't find anything suitable. Am I missing something? I've tried the Firefox LinkChecker add-on and the W3C link validator - neither seem to have the 'follow recursively within a domain' property, or am I being dumb? I know Xenu does this, but I don't run Windows.

When the user types in a postcode for example HX5 9DU I want Jquery to check the array, if there is match for the first 2/3 letters I want a div to fade in displaying a message. How would I do this? For example: DROPDOWNS Field 1: - value_1 - value_2 Field 2: - value_3 Field 3: - value_4 - value_5 COMBINATIONS - value_1, value_3, value_5 - value_1, value_3, value_4 - value_2, value_3, value_5 When a user selects Field 3 - value_4, the unavailable options will be disabled - ie, Field 1 - value_2 (there is no combination that allows value_2 and value_4 to be selected together). It would be really great if someone could provide some pointers on how this can be achieved or just provide a fresh perspective - I'm going round in circles on this one!

I'm delivering a site to a client and I want to send them high-quality HTML/CSS/JS, fully validated, accessible etc. So I'm compiling a list of things to check, and useful tools for doing so, before I hand the code over. Here's a partial list, but what am I missing? Link checking for any broken links I might have missed - W3C link checker HTML validation for accessibility and broken-ness - W3C HTML validator CSS validation - W3C CSS validator Check for slow-loading page elements - Firebug and YSlow plugin What's missing - if you were a client, what else would you want to be sure has been checked? I'm wondering about the etiquette of things like comments, indentation, and minification; is it good practice to sort out all these? And what else have I missed? Thanks :)

  Hello. I am designing a 960px wide layout with an unordered list. Each list item is 240px wide, so 4 list items fit horizontally in a row. I have about 20 rows on the page.... I want every other list item to have a background of #ececec, so my css would be: ul li:nth-child(2n+2){ background-color:#ececec; } This works. The only problem is because there are 4 items in a row (an even #), the next row would be identical, thus rendering background colors on every 1st and 3rd list items in a row. This is not the effect I am looking to achieve. I want the background colors to alternate, creating a grid-like effect. What is the correct css to do so (think a checker board). Thanks!

My thoughts on doing this are as follows: The user starts the process Process runs every 10 seconds When the process is not running, Console.ReadLine(); gives the user the option to press "q" to stop the process My approach would work fine except the user would have to wait however long the process takes to complete before being able to stop it. Is there any way to simultaneously run the process while being able to take a user input?

  A portion of my program requires a "flag" retrieval, that is I am fetching a value that is either True or False, and based on this return value two things could follow. 1) The flag is true, aka "go ahead", and I retrieve data from a database. 2) The flag is false, and I want to prevent the data from being retrieved. Now, this check has to be performed before any function that would call upon the database in question. I decided to implement this check in the form of an event handler attached to GUI objects that would trigger this data inquiry. This check event handler is called first upon necessary events, and my question is: How do I stop subsequent event handlers from firing if the FIRST event handler (my flag checker) comes up FALSE? • Can the LibreOffice LightProof grammar library be used externally?

  LibreOffice 3.5 includes a grammar checker, called (or maybe based on) LightProof. From what I have read, LightProof seems to be a Python library that can be used to check for custom grammar rules. But I can not for the life of me find a project page for LightProof. The closest I got was http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/lightproof/tree/, which seems to be the code for the LibreOffice extension, not LightProof itself. So is LightProof actually a library that can be implemented in other applications, or is it just a code word for a LibreOffice feature?
