  • How to mount remote sambe from local host with multiple groups ?

    - by Dragos
I am using mount.cifs to mount a remote samba share (both client and server are Ubuntu server 8.04) like this: mount.cifs //sambaserver/samba /mountpath -o credentials=/path/.credentials,uid=someuser,gid=1000 `$ cat .credentials username=user password=password I mounted a user from local system with username and password with mount.cifs but the problem is that the user is part of multiple groups on the remote system and with mount.cifs I can only specify one gid. Is there a way to specify all the gids that the remote user has ? Is there a way to: 1) Mount the remote samba with multiple groups on the local system ? 2) Browse the mount from 1) with the terminal since I want to pass some files from samba as arguments to local programs. Other solutions would be: nautilus sftp:// which runs through gvfs but the newer gnome does not write to disk the ~/.gvfs anymore so I can't browse it in terminal. An the last solution would be nfs but that means that I have to synchronize the uids and gids on the local system with the ones from the server.

  • Two distinct mount points with one device

    - by user1761555
After being disappointed with Ubuntu's release update feature, I finally decided to have separate mount points for / and /home. Towards this, I reformatted my HDD giving most of my drive to sda1(meant to be /home) and allocated about 40GB to rootfs (/). Unfortunately, I would also like to have a /projects which is to be located on sda1. Currently, sda1 is being mounted as /dev/sda1 on /home type ext4 (rw) I've tried looking online for a solution to this problem..however, I'm not sure as to what to look for! Is it possible to mount the 'home' directory of sda1 as /home and 'projects' directory of sda1 as /projects?

  • permanently mount multiple directories from different disks under root [on hold]

    - by piotrek
I have SSD and HDD. Some directories like /var /srv /tmp should be on hdd while /boot /usr /lib on ssd. But do I have to create separate partition for every single directory? i want to have 2 or so partitions. one for each disk and distribute directories as needed. is it possible? and how? i've heard about symlinks, mount --bind, mhddfs but: symlinks are treated differently by tools like cp so i'm not sure if it's safe to have main system directories symlinked i have no idea how can I use mount --bind or mhddfs in fstab

  • Can't re-mount existing RAID10 on Ubuntu

    - by Zoran
I saw similar questions, but didn't find what solution to my problem. After power-cut, one of RAID10 (4 disks were) appears to be malfunctioning. I make tha array active one, but can not mount it. Always the same error: mount: you must specify the filesystem type So, here is what I have when type mdadm --detail /dev/md0 /dev/md0: Version : 00.90.03 Creation Time : Tue Sep 1 11:00:40 2009 Raid Level : raid10 Array Size : 1465148928 (1397.27 GiB 1500.31 GB) Used Dev Size : 732574464 (698.64 GiB 750.16 GB) Raid Devices : 4 Total Devices : 3 Preferred Minor : 0 Persistence : Superblock is persistent Update Time : Mon Jun 11 09:54:27 2012 State : clean, degraded Active Devices : 3 Working Devices : 3 Failed Devices : 0 Spare Devices : 0 Layout : near=2, far=1 Chunk Size : 64K UUID : 1a02e789:c34377a1:2e29483d:f114274d Events : 0.166 Number Major Minor RaidDevice State 0 8 16 0 active sync /dev/sdb 1 0 0 1 removed 2 8 48 2 active sync /dev/sdd 3 8 64 3 active sync /dev/sde At the /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf I have by default, scan all partitions (/proc/partitions) for MD superblocks. alternatively, specify devices to scan, using wildcards if desired. • Setup for mounting kerberized nfs home directory - gssd not finding valid kerberos ticket

    - by janm
Our home directories are exported via kerberized nfs, so the user needs a valid kerberos ticket to be able to mount its home. This setup works fine with our existing clients & server. Now we want to add some 11.10 client and thus set up ldap & kerberos together with pam_mount. The ldap authentication works and users can login via ssh, however their homes can not be mounted. When pam_mount is configured to mount as root, gssd does not find a valid kerberos ticket and the mount fails. • Mount an external drive at boot time only if it is plugged in.

    - by Jeremy
I've got an entry for an external harddrive in my fstab: UUID="680C0FE30C0FAAE0" /jgdata ntfs noatime,rw But sometimes this drive isn't plugged in at boot time. This leaves me half way through a boot, with a prompt to "Continue Waiting, press S or press M" but no keypress has any affect at this stage (including ctrl-alt-delete, not even caps-lock). Short of writing a script to check the output of fdisk -l, how can I mount this drive at boot time only if it is present? It would be handy to have an fdisk entry for this drive, so I can just type mount /jgdata instead of needing a device name.

  • How to mount read-only filesystem as read-write?

    - by Eric
this is my problem. I have a USB drive which somehow was set as read-only. I want to set it as read write then format it. sudo chown -R eric /dev/sdb Seems to go through, but when I view the drive in Nautilius it says Error mounting: mount: block device /dev/sdb1 is write-protected, mounting read-only mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful inf.o is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so. Thanks in advance!

  • Sharing samba-folder with root access

    - by Industrial
Hi everyone, I have a staging server in my network running Ubuntu server 10.10, being my main development area. As I need to access the files in the Apache root from other computers in the network, I have setup samba with the following settings: [www] comment = Apache root www path = /var/www writable = yes force user = root force group = root On the host computer, running Ubuntu 10.10 desktop, I am trying to mount the drive with a bash file looking like below: #!/bin/bash sudo mount -t cifs //192.168.1.5/www /media/www/ -o username=myusername,password=mypassword,rw,iocharset=utf8,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777 What happens is that I get mount error(13): Permission denied Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs) thrown in my face whilst trying to execute the mount. I've done exactly the same, with exactly the same smb.conf & mount-bash file on another computer in my network, but this just wont work. What am I doing wrong? I am running out of ideas.

  • smbmount returns "operation not permitted"

    - by Petriborg
I use the smbfs tools package to mount my SMB shares. I wrote a quick script to mount the share: #!/bin/sh /usr/bin/smbmount "\\\\somehost.local\\hostshare" /media/hostshare -o user=smbuser, dom=WORKGROUP,uid=localuser, gid=localgroup This script used to work in 9.10 when called by the "localuser" account, but in my fresh-installed 10.04 it fails giving me the error: mount error(1): Operation not permitted Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs) The /media/hostshare directory is empty and has these perms: drwxrwxr-x 2 localuser localgroup 4096 2010-12-12 12:04 hostshare/ The "localuser" is in these groups: localgroup adm dialout cdrom plugdev lpadmin admin sambashare Any idea what is going on here? Google seems to suggest that the "sticky" bit needs to be set on /sbin/mount.cifs /sbin/mount.smbfs and /sbin/umount.cifs Is this a bug?

  • How do I recover a BTRFS partition that will not mount?

    - by Tony
The installation for 12.04 kept failing, and the solution was to have the installer ignore the btrfs partition that I have previously been using for /home. Now that it's installed, I've been trying to get it to mount the btrfs partition so that I can access my 70GB of files. It won't mount, and btrfsck errors out with the following three lines: parent transid verify failed on 31302336512 wanted 62455 found 62456 parent transid verify failed on 31302336512 wanted 62455 found 62456 parent transid verify failed on 31302336512 wanted 62455 found 62456 Can someone please tell me how to get this partition working? I've read online that I can probably recover the data using btrfs-restore, but I can't find that program anywhere.

  • Why can't I mount the Ubuntu 12.04 installer ISOs in Mac OS X?

    - by eric
Over the past few days, I have downloaded both the 32 and 64 bit version of server and desktop to install on an Intel based PC. It is normal from within OS X to double click on an ISO and it will mount the ISO in the finder as well as within disk utility. When I attempt to mount any of the Ubuntu ISOs I downloaded, OS X returns the error message The following disk images couldn't be opened. The reason given for the error is no mountable filesystem. However, I am still able to open the ISO directly from disk utility and burn it to a DVD/CD. What has changed in this release to cause this? Is there something wrong with the current ISOs? The OS X machine I am using is only two weeks old and is having no issues with any other ISO.

  • smb mount cannot sync file automatically

    - by Frank
Under Ubuntu, I use smb to mount the directory of the server(Ubuntu too), and set to a local directory, like /home/username/server. When I change some files of local directory, the files in the server change too. However, when I change some files of the server, the files in local directory don't change. Does someone know what the reason is ? And could someone fix it and make local changes updated to the server so that I could edit local and make in the server?

  • When and Where does Wubi mount it's virtual disks

    - by TuxPotato
My use of the wubi-new-virtual-disk made Wubi start mounting this new virtual home disk over my /home folder. After the use of the script failed, I am left with Wubi constantly remounting an empty virtual disk over my /home folder. I followed the instructions on the Ubuntu website to revert the change, but the mounting continues. Where did Wubi put the mount operation, and how can I remove it? Thanks in advance!

  • Mount a tar file - not possible?

    - by leonbloy
It seems one cannot mount a tar file (read only), similarly as one mounts an ISO image file. At least, I have not found any implementation. It would be useful, for example to run a find command inside. Is this really (or practically) impossible to implement? Why?
