    When i run gnome-terminal with the -e to execute a command the PATH used to find the command is not the PATH used in the terminal initiating the command For example: I open an terminal and set the PATH to be "./:$PATH type in gnome-terminal -e cluster_node It can't find the cluster node. if I type gnome-terminal -e ./cluster_node it works If I add in the /etc/environemtn the PATH ./ then it works always/ I think it doesn't use theterminal environment PATH from which it was launched.

    I tried to run it from total commander, I tried to make a link to it /media/DATA/#TO_BACKUP/_MUSIC/MUSIC2/Black Eyed Peas - The Time (Dirty Bit).avi but it says Failed to execute child process "/media/DATA/" (Permission denied) Opening the full location from MediaPlayer does not work (open location) Location not found I can open it slowly by navigating in the slow file open dialog, but I would like to open it from totalcmd or by created link or by passing full location. P.S. Before that I have opened the DATA Partition.

    I recorded a bootable CD with the image that I downloaded from the Ubuntu site, using NTI CD MAKER. My laptop had a problem and I prefered to get it fixed without installing an OS. Now, when I try to run this CD it shows the following error mssage: Device driver not found: 'MSCD001'. No valid CDROM device drivers were selected Mouse driver was previously installed A:\> If the drive wasn't working the CD wouldn't even start, I assume....So can anyone help me please! Thank you!

    I am wondering if there is a way to run virtualbox XP machine on a Ubuntu base system with no/very minimal Ubuntu Desktop Environment. I want to use Ubuntu for as the base operation system for such things as Samba, DNS, LAMP. But some of the the applications we have developed and use are windows only. And require a bit more "juice" than Ubuntu But we also need the Windows GUI to make changes, etc. I would like this on one machine, rather than a two.

    I want to install ubuntu 12.04 LTS along side windows 7 on my Asus 1005P Eee PC. I tried to install it with the Live USB created with the "Universal-USB-Installer-1.9.0.2.exe" but failed. Alternatively, I downloaded the "wubi.exe" installer from www.ubuntu.com, but it does not run on my pc. Is this version of ubuntu incompatible for the given hardware for side by side installation with windows 7?

    How do I set Unity3D to run my game on Windows 8 in a fixed size frame (with a border around it) and not in fullscreen? I tried setting this in the Unity script and in the final C# project, but nothings seems to work. I have set the players resolution to 1366x786 (the desired size) and while this works fine with the webplayer the windows 8 solution seems really unimpressed by it. I also tinkered with the 'Default Is Full Screen' option

  • Save and Run Programs From USB

    At the moment I am running Ubuntu 12.10 from a USB memory stick, and I wondered whether it would be possible to save and run any programs I have downloaded from another USB stick instead of the one with the operating system on. I'd like to be able to set the download location in Ubuntu Software Center to the second memory drive, but i don't know how to do this. I can keep the operating system on the one USB and the programs on the other USB, which makes everything much more easier. Any ideas?

  • Is Form validation and Business validation too much?

    I've got this question about form validation and business validation. I see a lot of frameworks that use some sort of form validation library. You submit some values and the library validates the values from the form. If not ok it will show some errors on you screen. If all goes to plan the values will be set into domain objects. Here the values will be or, better said, should validated (again). Most likely the same validation in the validation library. I know 2 PHP frameworks having this kind of construction Zend/Kohana. When I look at programming and some principles like Don't Repeat Yourself (DRY) and single responsibility principle (SRP) this isn't a good way. As you can see it validates twice. Why not create domain objects that do the actual validation. Example: Form with username and email form is submitted. Values of the username field and the email field will be populated in 2 different Domain objects: Username and Email class Username {} class Email {} These objects validate their data and if not valid throw an exception. Do you agree? What do you think about this aproach? Is there a better way to implement validations? I'm confused about a lot of frameworks/developers handling this stuff. Are they all wrong or am I missing a point? Edit: I know there should also be client side kind of validation. This is a different ballgame in my Opinion. If You have some comments on this and a way to deal with this kind of stuff, please provide.

  • Ruby Design Problem for SQL Bulk Inserter

    This is a Ruby design problem. How can I make a reusable flat file parser that can perform different data scrubbing operations per call, return the emitted results from each scrubbing operation to the caller and perform bulk SQL insertions? Now, before anyone gets narky/concerned, I have written this code already in a very unDRY fashion. Which is why I am asking any Ruby rockstars our there for some assitance. Basically, everytime I want to perform this logic, I create two nested loops, with custom processing in between, buffer each processed line to an array, and output to the DB as a bulk insert when the buffer size limit is reached. Although I have written lots of helpers, the main pattern is being copy pasted everytime. Not very DRY! Here is a Ruby/Pseudo code example of what I am repeating. lines_from_file.each do |line| line.match(/some regex/).each do |sub_str| # Process substring into useful format # EG1: Simple gsub() call # EG2: Custom function call to do complex scrubbing # and matching, emitting results to array # EG3: Loop to match opening/closing/nested brackets # or other delimiters and emit results to array end # Add processed lines to a buffer as SQL insert statement @buffer << PREPARED INSERT STATEMENT # Flush buffer when "buffer size limit reached" or "end of file" if sql_buffer_full || last_line_reached @dbc.insert(SQL INSERTS FROM BUFFER) @buffer = nil end end I am familiar with Proc/Lambda functions. However, because I want to pass two separate procs to the one function, I am not sure how to proceed.     I'm working a simple EF/MVC app and I'm trying to implement some Repositories to handle my entities. I've set up a BaseObject Class and a IBaseRepository Interface to handle the most basic operations so I don't have to repeat myself each time: public abstract class BaseObject<T> { public XA.Model.Entities.XAEntities db; public BaseObject() { db = new Entities.XAEntities(); } public BaseObject(Entities.XAEntities cont) { db = cont; } public void Delete(T entity) { db.DeleteObject(entity); db.SaveChanges(); } public void Update(T entity) { db.AcceptAllChanges(); db.SaveChanges(); } } public interface IBaseRepository<T> { void Add(T entity); T GetById(int id); IQueryable<T> GetAll(); } But then I find myself having to implement 3 basic methods in every Repository ( Add, GetById & GetAll): public class AgencyRepository : Framework.BaseObject<Agency>, Framework.IBaseRepository<Agency> { public void Add(Agency entity) { db.Companies.AddObject(entity); db.SaveChanges(); } public Agency GetById(int id) { return db.Companies.OfType<Agency>().FirstOrDefault(x => x.Id == id); } public IQueryable<Agency> GetAll() { var agn = from a in db.Companies.OfType<Agency>() select a; return agn; } } How can I get these into my BaseObject Class so I won't run in conflict with DRY.

  • Correct MySQL username/password, but getting Access Denied error when run from script

    I'm currently trying to run the following command from within a shell script. /usr/bin/mysql -u username -ppassword -h localhost database It works perfectly fine when executed manually, and not from within a script. When I try to execute a script that contains that command, I get the following error: ERROR 1045 (28000) at line 3: Access denied for user 'username'@'localhost' (using password: YES) I literally copied and pasted the working command into the script. Why the error? As a sidenote: the ultimate intent is to run the script with cron. EDIT: Here is a stripped down version of my script that I'm trying to run. You can ignore most of it up until the point where it connects to MySQL around line 19. #!/bin/sh #Run download script to download product data cd /home/dir/Scripts/Linux /bin/sh script1.sh #Run import script to import product data to MySQL cd /home/dir/Mysql /bin/sh script2.sh #Download inventory stats spreadsheet and rename it cd /home/dir /usr/bin/wget http://www.url.com/file1.txt mv file1.txt sheet1.csv #Remove existing export spreadsheet rm /tmp/sheet2.csv #Run MySQL queries in "here document" format /usr/bin/mysql -u username -ppassword -h localhost database << EOF --Drop old inventory stats table truncate table table_name1; --Load new inventory stats into table Load data local infile '/home/dir/sheet1.csv' into table table_name1 fields terminated by ',' optionally enclosed by '"' lines terminated by '\r\n'; --MySQL queries to combine product data and inventory stats here --Export combined data in spreadsheet format group by p.value into outfile '/tmp/sheet2.csv' fields terminated by ',' optionally enclosed by '"' lines terminated by '\r\n'; EOF EDIT 2: After some more testing, the issue is with the << EOF that is at the end of the command. This is there for the "here document". When removed, the command works fine. The problem is that I need << EOF there so that the MySQL queries will run.

  • Ubuntu 12.04 Install - Black Screen - No Grub - Have run Boot Repair Disk

    Day 4 of my purgatory. History: Had problems with live CD at first, had to set the "nomodeset" option ... and then it worked fine. Installed Ubuntu "Alongside" Windows XP from live CD (NOT wubi) Upon reboot after installation, I get the BIOS ... and then a black screen. If I hit shift after the BIOS screen I get text that says "loading GRUB ..", but then no GRUB ... just a black screen. What I have tried to do: Total re-installation ... 3 times now. Also tried with wubi, same black screen. Have gone back to the normal (non-wubi) install. After installation, I tried re-booting the live cd ... and trying to change GRUB file using: sudo gedit /etc/default/grub ... to "nomodeset" and "timeout=10" ... but won't let me save my changes because I'm using the live cd "in memory" system and don't have permissions to the disks (I think). I tried logging in ... but it won't let me. I then read many posts on this site. I'm stuck. This morning, I ran the "boot repair disk". Results here: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1132333/ What I think is wrong: Since I can get the live CD to run (perfectly) with the "nomodeset" option, I think all I need to do is get to GRUB to change that ... but I can't get to GRUB. Appreciate any advice. Pat Day 5 ... I downloaded "Super Grub 2 Disk" from: http://www.supergrubdisk.org/super-grub2-disk/ This looks promising. I can boot the disk and it brings me to a GRUB program that allows me to: 1) Boot to Windows ... which works 2) Boot to Ubuntu ... which does NOT work When I choose boot to Ubuntu, I get lines across the screen which is an obvious video card problem. Likely because I need to set the "nomodeset" option. So, I attempted to use super grub2 to edit the grub file ... but it is TOTALLY different than the Ubuntu grub file ... and I don't know where to put the "nomodeset" option. Still stuck ... The bottom line is that: 1) I need to edit /etc/default/grub on sda(1) ... which is my boot drive ... to add the "nomodeset" option 2) To do that I need to get into grub ... but, I can't. Holding down shift just echo's "loading grub .." and then takes me to a black screen 3) I can boot to the live CD by setting nomodeset .... but I cannot access the hard disk as root ... I can't save my changes! Can anyone tell me how to login as root for the filesystem from the live CD ... so I can edit the grub file on the HARD DISK ... and then run update-grub??

  • Httpd + Expect Script Fail (no more ptys) if httpd is not run through cli

    I have a CentOS virtual server through Vmware. The server runs an httpd daemon which serves an php page with a form. The users complete the form, and by clicking submit the php page calls an expect scripts. If i run the httpd throught the default init.d script i get a "no more ptys" error, but if i run httpd through root terminal the script runs without problems. How can i make the httpd run the expect scripts without having to run the httpd daemon by hand.

    I am trying to run growl notify over ssh like so ssh [email protected] "growlnotify -m test" is run I get bash: growlnotify command not found however running it straight from the mac it runs fine am I missing something simple or is there a really complex reason this won't work? ps. ssh keys are enabled in both directions edit: I logged into the mac from a remote machine over ssh and tried to run it and it ran fine so it seems to just affect the one line login and run way and DrC tried that cated the .profile to .bashrc

    Recently I've installed StarCraft 2 via playonlinux. The installation was absolutly no problem, everything was fine. But if I want to start the game now, it crashes. MY requirement is that it needs to also be able to run Ubuntu. It doesn't have to come with Ubuntu, I just need to be able to install it with no hassle.   • Getting PHP to work with apache to run .php files through browser [closed]

    I have VPS running Debian 5.0 (I think) and I would like to get it to run PHP files. I was told it needed to be configured with Apache. I tried entering the command apt-get install apache2 php5 libapache2-mod-php5. But there was no change. How can I fix this?
