• Why is my system freezing when I switch users

  Hello I've recently upgraded from 13.04 to 13.10 64bit. I'm running AMD graphics with the proprietary drivers. I have two user accounts. Mine(administrator) and my girlfriend's(standard) My girlfriend clicks "switch user" from my lock screen and logs in fine. I then try to click "switch user" from her lock screen and everything goes black. Then the monitor blinks on and off with just a single cursor. I have no way to access the terminal, the system is unresponsive and I have to hit the power button. Even ctrl + alt + f4 or ctrl + alt + t doesn't get me a terminal. When I press the power button on my system, it does start printing out the shutdown sequence on the monitor. Here is my .xsession-errors Script for ibus started at run_im. • Starting/Stopping Custom PHP Chat Server Linux Service (CentOS)

  I have been trying all night to get this service working properly. I created this script from a template and am very new to bash coding. I wrote a fully functioning chat server in php which runs endlessly, but now want to make it a dedicated service. I want to do this so that it starts on server boot and boots back up if possible when there are any down-times with the server. The issue is that I need this thing to run in a detached screen so that I can monitor packet data or send server commands via SSH when need-be. The main problem that i'm having is that it needs to have its own PID when it starts so that I can stop/restart it when needed. I am the type who grinds on coding until I figure it out, but this is so new to me that it seems the learning curve here is very steep and frustrating. • How to debug old initd script under systemd?

  I have an older initd script to start my application. It worked fine under older versions of SuSE, but fails on Open SuSE 12.3. The strange thing is cd /etc/init.d ; ./script start works fine. /etc/init.d/script start shows a redirection to systemctl, but doesn't start my application (and also doesn't show any output from the initd script). I don't see any log entries showing me what goes wrong. The only entry I see is in /var/log/messages saying the application was started. How do I debug this ?

• Difference between two ways of installing tomcat as a service (Linux)

  I am installing tomcat on a linux server, and would want it to be available as a service. I have found two different ways to achieve this. The first one is to copy the daemon.sh from $CATALINA_HOME/bin to /etc/init.d, and the other one I have seen is to create a simple init script that class $CATALINA_HOME/bin/startup.sh, etc. Startup.sh calls catalina.sh. The contents of the daemon.sh and startup.sh look very similar (at least for the env variables, and stuff like that). Daemon.sh calls jsvc in the end. Catalina.sh calls java. What is the (practical) difference between using the two of these when setting up tomcat as a service?

How can I configure init method for jaxws service (like i can do for the servlets for example) 2. the load on startup parameter is not affecting the service, I see that for every request init function called again (and c-tor).   I have a java stored procedure that takes in a clob representing a chunk of javascript and mins it. The structure of the function calling the JSP is as follows: function MIN_JS(pcl_js in clob) return clob as language java name 'JSMin.min(oracle.sql.CLOB) return oracle.sql.CLOB'; In the actual JSP, I have the following: import oracle.sql.CLOB; public class JSMin { ... public static min(CLOB js) { ... } The problem I'm having is that whenever I pass a clob to JS_MIN, it is always interpreted as null inside the JSP. I've checked the clob before calling JS_MIN annd it definitely has contents. Any ideas as to what I'm missing? Any help is greatly appreciated.

  Hello, I am learning facelets and Seam and I'm facing the following problem: I'm have 2 xhtml files, one includes the other and each one has its own Seam component as backing bean. I want to send and object to the included facelet and obtain that object in the backing bean corresponding to the included facelet. I'll take an example to explain better the situation: registration.xhtml with Seam component as backing bean Registration.java. In this class I have an object of type Person address.html with Seam component as backing bean Address.java. In this class i want to obtain the Person object from the Registration component and set the address. registration.xhtml includes the address.xhtml and passes an object using How to obtain this object in Address bean? Will be the same reference of the object from the Registration bean? is the solution of passing this object or there is another solution for that? (maybe f:attribute, but even in this case how do I obtain the object in bean) This example is simple and not necessarily realistic but I have a similar problem and I don't know how to solve it.   Is there a way to append something to the query string with no value set? I would like to see this kind of URL being generated: http://local/things?magic. What I'm looking for is when the user goes to http://local/other?magic then every URL in the generated page would contain magic in the end. Following code is almost a solution but it gives me http://local/things?magic=. There is an extra = that I don't want there. def default_url_options(options) if params.has_key?("magic") { :magic => "" } end end Setting { :magic => nil } will remove the magic entirely from the generated URLs.

• Devise routes /:param not working

  Using devise 2.1.0 I am trying to send the new registration page a PricingPlan model. So in my routes I have: devise_scope :user do delete "/logout" => "devise/sessions#destroy" get "/login" => "devise/sessions#new" get "/signup/:plan" => "devise/registrations#new" end And I override the devise registration controller. With this in my routes.rb to make it work: devise_for :users, :controllers => {:registrations => "registrations"} In my actual Registration controller which overrides Devise's controller I have: class RegistrationsController < Devise::RegistrationsController view_paths = "app/views/devise" def new super @plan = PricingPlan.find_by_name(params[:plan]) end So that the default views still go to devise.... In my new view for the registration controller I call this: <h3>You've chosen the <%= @plan.name %> plan.</h3> And I get this error: undefined method `name' for nil:NilClass Also... in my PricingPlan model: class PricingPlan < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :users And in my User model: class User < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :pricing_plan I'm rather new at rails.

This all works fine, however the Quicktime movie starts caching from the very beginning of the movie instead of from the starttime. Is there any way to get QT to cache from the starttime? • PHP code cannot see query string param on return in Facebook oAuth flow

  I am doing some integration with Facebook Open Graph using their oAuth flow and having issues with parsing query string parameters they return. On my callback URL, they pass back an "access_token" parameter with a hash (#). so the callback would be: http://mydomain.com/callback.php#access_token=foobar123 where foobar123 is my access token I'm trying to parse out. However, no matter what I do, my PHP code cannot see if and I've done every debug trick I know (even using phpinfo() to go through everything). The URL is stated only as http://mydomain.com/callback.php. It's as if the rest of the URL isn't really there! This code returns nothing: $token = $_REQUEST['access_token']; Any help would be greatly appreciated... I'm obviously missing something simple.

  I'm attempting to write some unit tests using EasyMock and TestNG and have run into a question. Given the following: void execute(Foo f) { Bar b = new Bar() b.setId(123); f.setBar(b); } I'm trying to test that the Id of the Bar gets set accordingly in the following fashion: @Test void test_execute() { Foo f = EasyMock.createMock(Foo.class); execute(f); Bar b = ?; // not sure what to do here f.setBar(b); f.expectLastCall(); } In my test, I can't just call f.getBar() and inspect it's Id because f is a mock object. Any thoughts? Is this where I'd want to look at the EasyMock v2.5 additions andDelegateTo() and andStubDelegateTo()?
