  I have a floppy made on a Mac years ago. I'd like to pull some files from it, but Macs haven't had floppies in forever, so I don't have one. I tried an app called MacOpener, but it didn't seem to work, plus it was pretty old. I even tried sharing the PC's A:\ drive and accessing it remotely from a Mac, but that didn't work either. Any ideas?

  I was wondering if there is a way to access a deeply nested shared networked Windows folder on Mac (Lion) like you can on windows with the Run box. say I know the folder I want is on the computer Homer-PC, the G drive, the folder ABC/234/CDE on Windows I can Win+R then \Homer-PC\G\ABC\234\CDE return and it should open that folder directly, Is there something similar on the Mac? • Deleting a single file from the trash in Mac OS X Snow Leopard

  In earlier versions of Mac OS X one could delete a file from the trash by opening a terminal window and typing rm ~/.Trash/file_i_want_to_delete. See this previous post. Unlike earlier versions in Mac OS X Snow Leopard one can "put back" a file from the trash into its original directory. Will the rm trick still work? Testing shows it does delete the file but what happens to the "put back" information that specifies the directory from which the file was deleted?

  So I've got a Mac in the post coming to me, and will probably be doing quite a bit of development on it so I am looking for a text editor (PHP + HTML mainly). I curently use Notepad++ on Windows and I simply cannot live without the function list plugin (It displays all functions in the current PHP file in a box on the right).   A friend of me recently dumped his Mac fpr a PC. He used Microsoft Office for Mac and has several hundred Files (Word, Excel) which were copied over to the new PC using a USB disk. Microsoft Office is now unable to read any of there files. I suspect this is because of little endian vs. big endian. Is there any tool which can converted all theses files automatically, doing this by hand would take ages.

I tried running ipconfig on my VM and then using the IP address that was given for "Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection", something like this: http://192.168.179.139:1044/ but this throws a not found error. I am currently using NAT. How can I get to localhost on my VM from my mac?

• Difference between accessing a website using Local host and IP address

  I have developed an ASP.NET website and deployed into my IIS server. Now to see that my IIS is installed fine, I type local host in my address bar, and I get the welcome screen of IIS and its documentation in a separate window. Now I gave the url of my website http://localhost/mysites/site2/Default.aspx I access my site. Also giving my IP address instead of local host like: http://192.168.1.46/mysites/site2/Default.aspx also works. Just out of curiosity I wanted to see what happens when I give my IP address in addressbar. It asks me a user name and password saying:The server 192.168.1.46:80 requires a user name and password. I donot know what user name and password it is asking, and as of my knowledge I thought localhost points to my own IP address internally. But what is the difference and also what username and password do I need for it? Update: On chrome and IE just giving localhost displays the welcome screen, but on mozilla, localhost is also asking for a username and password.

  I have a number of Mac (and a few Linux) laptops getting DHCP from a Force10 layer 3 switch, the only DHCP server on the subnet. There's a global dynamic pool, and for each full-time employee's laptop I have a single IP static pool set by MAC address. One and only one of the clients, running OS X 10.7.5, consistently fails to get a static assignment. The MAC address in the static pool definition has been carefully re-checked. Running tcpdump on a mirrored port when the laptop connects, I see that it is specifically requesting 10.100.0.252 (a dynamic address): 11:32:10.108280 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 255, id 28293, offset 0, flags [none], proto UDP (17), length 328) 0.0.0.0.bootpc > broadcasthost.bootps: [udp sum ok] BOOTP/DHCP, Request from 3c:07:54:xx:xx:xx (oui Unknown), length 300, xid 0x1399da89, Flags [none] (0x0000) Client-Ethernet-Address 3c:07:54:xx:xx:xx (oui Unknown) Vendor-rfc1048 Extensions Magic Cookie 0x63825363 DHCP-Message Option 53, length 1: Request Parameter-Request Option 55, length 9: Subnet-Mask, Default-Gateway, Domain-Name-Server, Domain-Name Option 119, LDAP, Option 252, Netbios-Name-Server Netbios-Node MSZ Option 57, length 2: 1500 Client-ID Option 61, length 7: ether 3c:07:54:xx:xx:xx Requested-IP Option 50, length 4: 10.100.0.252 Lease-Time Option 51, length 4: 7776000 Hostname Option 12, length 10: "host-name" END Option 255, length 0 PAD Option 0, length 0, occurs 8 I haven't been able to find any extra system prefs or unusual software on the laptop. Disabling the interface and rebooting or temporarily setting the IP manually both fail to make any difference. Any suggestions appreciated.
