  • my cpu won't start. all fan were spinning for a second then nothing happen

    - by Tommy
I need help about this.. I'm from Malaysia.. Back then my cpu is all okay..and it's 4 year old.. I think this question is answered before but i'm still don't understand.. when i plugged my cpu..turn it on and all of the fan (graphic card, mobo fan and PSU fan) were spinning just for a second than nothing happen.. I don't know if it is because of the PSU or my mobo.. I sent my cpu to the shop and they said it must be the mobo.. They tell me to change my mobo and PSU also..and it cost over 100 buck (rm300 in Malaysia). and i'm real 'dry' right now. My whole data is inside the HDD. School projects, photos, games, and many..I really-really need my cpu back alive.. My mobo is MSI MS-7529 with dual core chips. My PSU is ATX-480W. the PC store guy said i need to change to new ASUS mobo if I want. I dont know what type it is but Then he tell me to change my PSU also because he don't think my old PSU (ATX-480W) ain't compatible to the new mobo.. I was very need a help from you techie guys.. sorry for my terrible English..

  • How do I mount an EBS root volume to a windows instance in Amazon EC2

    - by Kyle
So basically, I created a large windows server for development, and then I created a micro windows server for production. I set up everything how I wanted it on my development server, and then i unmounted the drives, and mounted them to my micro server. Now I'm trying to get back into my large windows development server, and I'm getting the error. Invalid value 'i-4896ce28' for instanceId. Instance does not have a volume attached at root (/dev/sda1) this error pops up when I try to start my large windows server. I've remounted the drives to the large development server, and I still get this message. I'm not really sure what to do, I've read other posts and everyone is giving these almost like command line arguments and talking about other tools, and I really have no clue what any of that means, or where I even have an option to enter any commands without be logged into a specific instance.

  • Increase application performance on Amazon AWS

    - by Honus Wagner
I've got a client with an MVC v1 (.NET) application running on a micro instance. On this instance, I've got .NET, IIS 7.5, and MS SQL Server 2008 running to handle the application. The client has reported that it is taking nearly 10 seconds to process each request. Even loading the initial login page takes about that long, then logging in takes that long, etc etc. The currently running instance specs are as follows: 615 MB RAM Intel Xenon CPU E5430 @ 2.66GHz 2.78 GHz 64-Bit Is the memory availability the issue? or is it the processing power? I forsee two options: Change to a larget instance Set up a 2-tier architecture with two micro instances Which of these will give the application better performance? Thanks in advance.

  • How to switch sound-drivers, and to which? [AMD] Hudson Azalia Controller

    - by Anders Martini
System settings/sound does not open, freezes and I have to force close. Speaker symbol with volume control does not open scroll-down menu, and there is no sounds. Many people have problems with Hudson Azalia in Ubuntu, but I found no working solution. I don't really understand much of this, but here are some more details: aplay -l : **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** (after running this one, it starts some kind of process that doesn't get any results, and doesn't stop, terminal has to be shut down) lspci -vnn | grep -iA5 audio: 00:01.1 Audio device [0403]: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Device [1002:9902] Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:184c] Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 53 Memory at f0444000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K] Capabilities: <access denied> Kernel driver in use: snd_hda_intel -- 00:14.2 Audio device [0403]: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] Hudson Azalia Controller [1022:780d] (rev 01) Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:184c] Flags: bus master, slow devsel, latency 32, IRQ 54 Memory at f0440000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K] Capabilities: <access denied> Kernel driver in use: snd_hda_intel It seems to me that I'm currently running hda Intel drivers on my AMD Hudson Azalia soundcard. I can't see what drivers this soundcard uses. Do I need any additional drivers for my soundcard, and where would I find them?

  • WPA2 authentication fails on Ubuntu 12.04 using Rosewill RNX-N1

    - by user94156
Decided to reduce the clutter in the house and replace a wired connection with a wireless one on my wife's system using USB network device Rosewill RNX-X1. I can see and connect to unprotected network, but WPA2 authentication repeatedly fails. RNX-X1 works on other systems (including TV); also have 2 of 'em and tried each. Worth noting that I recently switched from Comcast to CenturyLink and so switched routers. The system connected successfully to previous router (Linksys EA4500) using WPA2. Would think it is the router (Actiontec C1000A) but all other devices (TV, iPad, Windows, Blackberry, and Squeezebox) connect ok. • Access Amazon Linux EC2 over VNC using Guacamole

    - by Neon Flash
I have a t1.micro Amazon Linux AMI instance running. Now, I want to access it using VNC so that I get the GUI. I came across Guacamole and the installation instructions for the server side configuration. So, I get it that we need to setup Apache Tomcat on the Linux machine and then install all the required dependencies, edit the configuration files for Tomcat. But, how do I access it from Windows? What is the client side configuration? From what I understood so far, instead of using a VNC Client like TightVNC or VNCViewer, we can use the Web Browser to access the Amazon EC2 instance. I am using Windows 7 as the client. I would like to access the Amazon Linux AMI (t1.micro instance) over VNC so that I get the GUI.

  • Ubuntu 12.04 problem with E160 huawei - can't detect the device and freezing system

    - by Matt
I have just installed 12.04 and plugged in E160 and nothing happened - modem doesn't mount. I have found this solution : Ubuntu does not mount some Huawei devices due to bugs, problems etc. See if these work: 1st option: Connect the USB modem. After 10 seconds, type this in a terminal window: lsusb The output will be like this: Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 004 Device 004: ID 12d1:140b Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. The relevant entry is: Bus 004 Device 004: ID 12d1:140b Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd Hence, you must type: sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=0x140b 2nd option Download usb-modeswitch and usb-modeswitch-data packages from packages.ubuntu.com. Install them through the command: sudo dpkg -i usb-modeswitch*.deb 3rd option Try a combination of both. but with no result. The modem is still not detected. I've tried to add a new connection but the system can't see my device in setup dialogue. Also I have noticed that when I open eg. terminal and try to type sth, the system freezes for a while.. Thanks for help!

  • Decoupling software components via naming convention

    - by csteinmueller
I'm currently evaluating alternatives to refactor a drivermanagement. In my multitier architecture I have Baseclass DAL.Device //my entity Interfaces BL.IDriver //handles the dataprocessing between application and device BL.IDriverCreator //creates an IDriver from a Device BL.IDriverFactory //handles the driver creation requests Every specialization of Device has a corresponding IDriver implementation and a corresponding IDriverCreator implementation. At the moment the mapping is fix via a type check within the business layer / DriverFactory. That means every new driver needs a) changing code within the DriverFactory and b) referencing the new IDriver implementation / assembly. On a customers point of view that means, every new driver, used or not, needs a complex revalidation of their hardware environment, because it's a critical process. My first inspiration was to use a caliburn micro like nameconvention see Caliburn.Micro: Xaml Made Easy BL.RestDriver BL.RestDriverCreator DAL.RestDevice After receiving the RestDevicewithin the IDriverFactory I can load all driver dlls via reflection and do a namesplitting/comparing (extracting the xx from xxDriverCreator and xxDevice) Another idea would be a custom attribute (which also leads to comparing strings). My question: is that a good approach above layer borders? If not, what would be a good approach?

  • fglrx: No matching Device section for instance... found how to fix it?

I have HD 4850 card, Ubuntu 12.10 and installed legacy drivers using makson96 ppa. The issue is, that FGLRX can not detect my device and loads vesa bios. I had the same problem on ubuntu 11.10, 12.04 versions. I want to manually help fglrx find a matching device to load as it shoudld do. It is interesting, why does fglrx search for a device in a PCI:0@1:0:1 Bus? in xorg.cof different bus is indicated: Section "Device" Identifier "aticonfig-Device[0]-0" Driver "fglrx" BusID "PCI:1:0:0" EndSection fglrxinfo display: :0.0 screen: 0 OpenGL vendor string: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. • Metaphor for task synchronization [closed]

    - by nkint
I'm looking for a metaphor. A friend of mine taught me to use metaphors from nature, everyday life, math, and use them to design my projects. They can help in creating a better design or better understanding or the problem, and they are cool. Now I'm working on a project with hardware and micro-controllers in C. For convenience, I have decided to use multiple micro-controllers as co-processor units for real-time (the slaves) and a master. This has saved me a lot of headache: I can code the main logic in the master without paying too much attention to super optimizing everything; I don't care if I need some blocking-call; I don't worry about serial communication with the computer. I just send messages to the slaves and they are super fast super in real time. I like my design and it seems to work well. So here are the important concepts that I'm trying capture in the metaphor: hierarchy of processing Not using one big brain but rather several small, distributed brain units using distributed power or resources I'm looking for a good metaphor for this concept of having one unit synchronize the work of all the others. Preferably, the metaphor would come from nature, biology, or zoology.

  • How to debug lack of sound in Asus EEE PC

  • Why won't my graphics work in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS?

    - by user170974
I'm very new to Ubuntu and to Linux in general, and took the leap and formatted my PC to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS very recently :) I seem to be having some trouble getting my graphics card to run properly, I looked over what information I could find but I still cannot get it up and running and figured this was a good place to ask for help. The information I can find on my graphics is as follows: (Terminal command) lspci outputs: 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RS880M [Mobility Radeon HD 4225/4250] 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Madison [Mobility Radeon HD 5650/5750 / 6530M/6550M] I tried using a mixture of the following links: How do I fix my installation of ATI Catalyst Video Driver in 12.04 LTS? What is the correct way to install ATI Catalyst Video Drivers (fglrx)? Ubuntu Precise Installation Guide But it does not seem to work, since running fglrxinfo in terminal gives: display: :0.0 screen: 0 OpenGL vendor string: VMware, Inc. OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 0x301) OpenGL version string: 1.4 (2.1 Mesa 9.0.3) What am I doing wrong here? All help appreciated ;) Edit: I have tried the legacy driver from www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13-4-linux-x86.x86_64.zip I also tried the guide at https://launchpad.net/~makson96/+archive/fglrx which caused the system to crash (blackscreen, no boot) Neither seemed to work. I did however reinstall ubuntu 12.04 LTS, and re-tried both with no success. Reintalling ubuntu did however fix the broken dependencies problems, etc.

  • Does my dd-wrt installation support firewall logging?

    - by SpikeX
I would like to log firewall events. I know this is possible with dd-wrt, but a lot of the documentation I've read states that this isn't possible with a micro installation of dd-wrt (based on BusyBox). I have a Netgear WNDR3700v2 router, and it does have BusyBox installed on it, but I don't know if the dd-wrt build is a micro build or not. How can I find this out, or how can I find out if my router supports firewall logging or not? Currently, if I enable all firewall logging (setting everything to "Enabled" and/or "High" gives me back blank firewall logs - but syslogd is working because I can view other system log messages).

  • How do I configure an Intel HD Graphics 4000?

    - by derabbink
First off, please note that last night I already posted this question to a launchpad mailing list, so this could be considered a cross post. However, I think this is a better place to ask the same question The question: How can I configure my Ubuntu 12.04, with upgraded kernel (3.6), to use the Intel HD Graphics 4000 adapter? (Intel HD 4000 is the standard of 3rd gen Intel Core i7 (Ivy Bridge) graphics adapter) Some output: $ glxinfo name of display: :0 X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation) Major opcode of failed request: 154 (GLX) Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString) Serial number of failed request: 12 Current serial number in output stream: 12 $ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf this is probably the farthest from what it should be Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" DefaultDepth 24 EndSection Section "Module" Load "glx" EndSection $ lspci I only listed the line I think are relevant. If you want more info in order to help me, please comment :) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Ivy Bridge Graphics Controller (rev 09) 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Panther Point High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04) 16:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Whistler XT [AMD Radeon HD 6700M Series] 16:00.1 Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Turks HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 6000 Series]

  • decouple software components via nameconvention

  • For very beginning startup: home server or EC2?

    - by StCee
The micro instance of Amazon EC2 only has ram of 613MB, my laptop got 8GB. And I suppose likewise the processing power of my computer would be better than the micro instance. My question is, what are the considerations in deciding to host yourself or on Amazon EC2, especially for a really baby startup? For example, would network speed be a problem? My computer broadband network is 100Mbs up to 1Gbs. What would Amazon compare to this? My site at these moment would just host some images and perform some php requests. I would probably also use cloudflare but seems it increases the dns lookup time considerably... And of course the overall objective is to make the best user experience.

  • Help Prevent Carpal Tunnel Problems with Workrave

    - by Matthew Guay
Whether for work or leisure, many of us spend entirely too much time on the computer everyday.  This puts us at risk of having or aggravating Carpal Tunnel problems, but thanks to Workrave you can help to divert these problems. Workrave helps Carpal Tunnel problems by reminding you to get away from your computer periodically.  Breaking up your computer time with movement can help alleviate many computer and office related health problems.  Workrave helps by reminding you to take short pauses after several minutes of computer use, and longer breaks after continued use.  You can also use it to keep from using the computer for too much You time in a day.  Since you can change the settings to suit you, this can be a great way to make sure you’re getting the breaks you need. Install Workrave on Windows If you’re using Workrave on Windows, download (link below) and install it with the default settings. One installation setting you may wish to change is the startup.  By default Workrave will run automatically when you start your computer; if you don’t want this, you can simply uncheck the box and proceed with the installation. Once setup is finished, you can run Workrave directly from the installer. Or you can open it from your start menu by entering “workrave” in the search box. Install Workrave in Ubuntu If you wish to use it in Ubuntu, you can install it directly from the Ubuntu Software Center.  Click the Applications menu, and select Ubuntu Software Center. Enter “workrave” into the search box in the top right corner of the Software Center, and it will automatically find it.  Click the arrow to proceed to Workrave’s page. This will give you information about Workrave; simply click Install to install Workrave on your system. Enter your password when prompted. Workrave will automatically download and install.   When finished, you can find Workrave in your Applications menu under Universal Access. Using Workrave Workrave by default shows a small counter on your desktop, showing the length of time until your next Micro break (30 second break), Rest break (10 minute break), and max amount of computer usage for the day. When it’s time for a micro break, Workrave will popup a reminder on your desktop. If you continue working, it will disappear at the end of the timer.  If you stop, it will start a micro-break which will freeze most on-screen activities until the timer is over.  You can click Skip or Postpone if you do not want to take a break right then. After an hour of work, Workrave will give you a 10 minute rest break.  During this it will show you some exercises that can help eliminate eyestrain, muscle tension, and other problems from prolonged computer usage.  You can click through the exercises, or can skip or postpone the break if you wish.   Preferences You can change your Workrave preferences by right-clicking on its icon in your system tray and selecting Preferences. Here you can customize the time between your breaks, and the length of your breaks.  You can also change your daily computer usage limit, and can even turn off the postpone and skip buttons on notifications if you want to make sure you follow Workrave and take your rests! From the context menu, you can also choose Statistics.  This gives you an overview of how many breaks, prompts, and more were shown on a given day.  It also shows a total Overdue time, which is the total length of the breaks you skipped or postponed.  You can view your Workrave history as well by simply selecting a date on the calendar.   Additionally, the Activity tab in the Statics pane shows more info about your computer usage, including total mouse movement, mouse button clicks, and keystrokes. Conclusion Whether you’re suffering with Carpal Tunnel or trying to prevent it, Workrave is a great solution to help remind you to get away from your computer periodically and rest.  Of course, since you can simply postpone or skip the prompts, you’ve still got to make an effort to help your own health.  But it does give you a great way to remind yourself to get away from the computer, and especially for geeks, this may be something that we really need! • DVD not detected?

    - by Benjamin
As i insert a DVD in my drive (on a laptop) using Kubuntu 12.04, the DVD is not detected. The drive takes the DVD, I can hear it munching on it for a while, and then nothing. Even ejecting the DVD becomes a hassle, I need to do that at boot time otherwise the OS won't allow me to eject. Kubuntu 12.04 used to read and mount the same DVDs just fine a week ago. Edit: since I am able to boot from CD, can I safely assume the issue is not a hardware issue? • Cocoa Touch: Creating and Adding Custom View

    - by Jason
    I create a custom view in cocoa touch that is superclassed by UIView and in my main controller I initialize it and then add it as a subview to the main view, but when I add it to the main view it calls my initializer method again and causes an infinite loop. Am I going about creating my custom view wrong? Here is the mainView (void)loadView { UIImage *tempImage = [UIImage imageNamed: @"image1.jpg"]; CustomImageContainer *testImage = [[CustomImageContainer alloc] initWithImage: tempImage andLabel: @"test image" onTop: true atX: 10 atY: 10]; [self.view addSubview: testImage]; } and the CustomImageContainer -(CustomImageContainer *) initWithImage: (UIImage *)imageToAdd andLabel: (NSString *)text onTop: (BOOL) top atX: (int) x_cord atY: (int) y_cord{ UIImageView *imageview_to_add = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage: imageToAdd]; imageview_to_add.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, imageToAdd.size.width, imageToAdd.size.height); UILabel *label_to_add = [[UILabel alloc] init]; label_to_add.text = text; label_to_add.alpha = 50; label_to_add.backgroundColor = [UIColor blackColor]; label_to_add.textColor = [UIColor whiteColor]; [self addSubview: imageview_to_add]; self.frame = CGRectMake(x_cord, y_cord, imageToAdd.size.width, imageToAdd.size.height); if (top) { label_to_add.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, imageview_to_add.frame.size.width, imageview_to_add.frame.size.height); //[self addSubview: label_to_add]; } else { label_to_add.frame = CGRectMake(0,.2 * imageview_to_add.frame.size.height, imageview_to_add.frame.size.width, imageview_to_add.frame.size.height); } [self addSubview: label_to_add]; [super init]; return self; }
