  • version control on large files

    We happily use SVN for SCM at work. Currently I've got our binary assets in the same SVN repository as our code. SVN supports very large files (it transmits them 'streamily' to keep memory usage sane), but it is SLOOWWWWW. What asset management software do you recommend, for about a GB (and growing) worth of assets? We would prefer branching and merging (different assets & config files go to different customers).

  • Confusing .gitignore syntax

    I was reading http://www.kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/docs/gitignore.html and the 6 points used to explain the ignore patterns seem to be describing a custom variant of a glob search syntax. I am more familiar with Mercurial, which allows to explicitly ignore via glob or regex patterns, no questions asked. Is there anything similar functionality in Git? I haven't found a baked equivalent of git svn for ClearCase. Is there anybody who has tried to use git locally as a front-end to ClearCase using some tricks, configuration or scripting with any measure of success? If so can you please explain the method used?

So if it possible for me to merge the later commit (the 2nd of the 2 commits) of the experiment to the master branch? Thank you.

  • sed - trying to replace first occurrence after a match

    I am facing a situation that drives me nuts. I am setting up an update server which uses a json file. Don't ask why or how, it sucks and is my only possibility to achieve it. I have been trying and researching for HOURS (many) because I went ballistic and wanted to crack this on my own. But I have to realize I got stuck and need help. So sorry for this chunk but I think it is somewhat important to see... The file is a one liner and repeating the following sequence with changing values (of course). "plugin_name_foo_bar": {"buildDate": "bla", "dependencies": [{"name": "bla", "optional": true, "version": "1.00"}], "developers": [{"developerId": "bla", "email": "[email protected]", "name": "Bla bla2nd"}], "excerpt": "some text {excerpt} !bla.png|thumbnail,border=1! ", "gav": "bla", "labels": ["report", "scm-related"], "name": "plugin_name_foo_bar", "previousTimestamp": "bla", "previousVersion": "1.0", "releaseTimestamp": "bla", "requiredCore": "1", "scm": "github.com", "sha1": "ynnBM2jWo25ZLDdP3ybBOnV/Pio=", "title": "bla", "url": "http://bla.org", "version": "1.0", "wiki": "https://bla.org"}, "Exclusion": {"buildDate": "bla", "dependencies": [], and the next plugin block is glued straight afterwards. What I now want to do is to search for "plugin_foo_bar": {" as this is the unique identifier for a new plugin description block. I want to replace the first sha1 value occuring afterwards. That's where I keep failing. I always grab the first,last or any occurrence in the entire file and not the block :( "title" is the unique identifier after the sha1 value. So I tried to make the .* less greedy but it ain't working out. last attempt was heading towards: sed -i 's/("name": "plugin_name_foo_bar.*sha1": ")([a-zA-Z0-9!@#\$%^&*()\[\]]*)(", "title"\)/\1blablabla\2/1' default.json to find the sha1 value of that plugin but still no joy. I hope someone knows - preferably a simpler approach - before I now continue with trial and error until I have to puke and freakout. I am working with SED on Windows, so Unix approach might help me to figure out how to achieve this in batch but please make it as one-liner if possible. Scripts are a real pain to convert. And I just need SED and no other solution with other tools like AWK. That is absolutely out of discussion. Any help is appreciated :) Cheers Jan

Common-Lisp and Scheme are both some lisp programming langue. 2. common-Lisp source file *.lisp can be compiled into binary file *.fasl which can be load faster than the source file.   • Configuring Jenkins for running with BitBucket

    I'm trying to setup Jenkins on my mac mini in order to pull my iOS project source code from BitBucket and build it automatically. I've already gone through the major well know problems generating the ssh keys,uploading them in BitBucket,performing an ssh connection by console for adding the host to the well know list (you can find all my adventure here and here). Now,there are 3 user in my system: A,B and Shared. When I installed Jenkins it automatically placed itself in Shared, but I generated the ssh keys with the user A. So just to be clear In the A home directory there is an .ssh directory with public and private keys.     I've just completed a fresh install of Mavericks. Then I went to git-scm.com and downloaded the Mac installer and installed Git from that. Now whenever I go into the terminal and type git I get this: xcode-select: note: no developer tools were found at '/Applications/Xcode.app', requesting install. Choose an option in the dialog to download the command line developer tools. I also this dialog: The git installer installed git into /usr/local/git/bin and I've added this to my PATH but still no dice. What am I doing wrong here? I don't want to install xcode just so I can use git.

    I'm trying to install Xen 4.0.1 from Source on Ubuntu 10.10 Server Edition. I started with a clean machine and followed the instructions from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Xen. I'd like to keep track of info like currently installed packages and their versions which packages are pinned at what version which source (as in /etc/apt/sources.list) they were installed from whether they were installed directly or automatically installed as a dependency of a different package "unknown unknowns": ie stuff that I don't know that I should be keeping track of but which may be important when trying to figure out why something doesn't work In short, I'd like to keep as much of the aptitude database as possible. What's the best way to do this? It would be nice if the resulting records were easily readable, though this is not really essential. It would be extra nice if it were readily versionable through an SCM tool like git. There is a superuser question that partially answers this, but it only provides the list of currently installed packages.

    Follow some instruction on this site http://denis.tumblr.com/post/71390665/adding-bash-completion-for-git-on-mac-os-x-leopard . I can do git auto complete for MAC OS. However, when I type git pull origin ma (for master), and then tab it takes a long time for git to auto complete to become git pull origin master .   • Win Server 2008: Task Scheduler runs programs twice or late

    Hi, I need to restart a service every day. I have logon hours restricted at 3:00 am, and the server will logout existing TS connections. I have two tasks scheduled: "Daily At 3:20 am every day" "start a program" "c:\windows\system32\sc.exe stop myservice" "Daily At 3:22 am every day" "start a program" "c:\windows\system32\sc.exe start myservice" I came in today to notice that the service wasn't running. I've been digging in logs, and found these entries: For stop task, history: a) 3:29:35 am: Action Completed (sc result code 0) b) 3:20:00 am: Action Completed (sc result code 0) For start task, history: a) 3:29:35 am: Action Completed (sc result code ERROR_SERVICE_ALREADY_RUNNING 1056 (0x420)) b) 3:22:01 am: Action Completed (sc result code 0) Checking event logs shows me: a) 3:29:35 am, Application log, Source myservice, "The service was stopped" b) 3:29:25 am, System log, Source Service Control Manager, "The myservice service entered the stopped state" So, What would have caused both tasks to run at 3:29 am? Why don't I see a message from the SCM saying that the service entered the running state? Is this the preferred way to do this? Thanks!

  • Mercurial changeset hook problem when auto updating. Server permissions maybe??

    I am using Mercurial SCM over a LAN using a normal shared folder instead of http and i'm having a problem getting the auto update hook to run. I have entered this hook as detailed here: http://mercurial.selenic.com/wiki/FAQ#FAQ.2BAC8-CommonProblems.Any_way_to_.27hg_push.27_and_have_an_automatic_.27hg_update.27_on_the_remote_server.3F This installs the hook, but when i push something to the remote repo i get an error: added 1 changesets with 1 changes to 1 files running hook changegroup: hg update >&2 warning: changegroup hook exited with status -1 There is a stackoverflow question similar to this here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2885246/mercurial-auto-update-problem but it offers no solutions other than it may be a permissions error somewhere. Has anyone else had this problem and can anyone else shed any more light on this or give me a heads up on where to start fixing this? Thanks.

    I am compiling xen from source and each time I do a make world it basically gives some or the other error my problem are not those errors ( I am trying to debug them) but the problem is each time when I do a make world Xen basically pulls things from git repository + rm -rf linux-2.6-pvops.git linux-2.6-pvops.git.tmp + mkdir linux-2.6-pvops.git.tmp + rmdir linux-2.6-pvops.git.tmp + git clone -o xen -n git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/jeremy/xen.git linux-2.6-pvops.git.tmp Initialized empty Git repository in /usr/src/xen-4.0.1/linux-2.6-pvops.git.tmp/.git/ remote: Counting objects: 1941611, done. remote: Compressing objects: 100% (319127/319127), done. remote: Total 1941611 (delta 1614302), reused 1930655 (delta 1604595) **Receiving objects: 20% (1941611/1941611), 98.17 MiB | 87 KiB/s, done.** and if you notice the last line it is still consuming my bandwidth pulling things from internet.How can I stop this step each time and use existing git repository?

  • SVN - managing .htaccess file on various instances

    I have a question and need a suggestion. We have to manage .htaccess file on three different instances - dev, qa and prod. Currently we have tortoise configured for scm. The issue we are facing is that .htaccess for dev & qa is different from the prod. At present, we have to manually merge differences from dev .htaccess to prod .htaccess. Is there any alternative way of managing this file without this manual process since it is error prone. Any suggestions in this regard will be highly appreciated
