• How to fix error in pdf2djvu: "Bogus memory allocation size"

- by Tim
I am using pdf2djvu to convert a pdf file into a djvu file, but got this error while trying to convert either bundled or indirect multi-page djvu file: $ pdf2djvu 1.pdf -o 1.djvu 1.pdf: - page #1 -> #1 Bogus memory allocation size $ pdf2djvu 1.pdf -i 1.djvu 1.pdf: - page #1 -> #1 Bogus memory allocation size I was wondering what is wrong here and how I shall fix the problem? You can suggest another application other than pdf2djvu. To convert it to djvu My pdf file can be downloaded from here , in case that you may wonder what is special about it. Thanks and regards

• Does data size in TCP/UDP make a difference on transmission time

- by liortal
While discussing the development of a network component for our game engine, a member of our team suggested that transmitting either 500 bytes or 1k of data using UDP makes no difference from performance perspective of the system (the time it takes to transmit the data). He actually said that as long as you don't cross the MTU size, the size of the transmitted data doesn't really matter as it's all the same. Is that true for UDP? what about TCP? That sounds just plain wrong to me, but i am not a network expert. *I've been reading about other companies' game networking architectures, and it seems they're all trying to keep transmitted data to a minimum, making my colleague's claims seem even more unreasonable.

• Increasing Ubuntu (12.04) partition size

- by Anatoli
I'm running a dual boot Windows XP/Ubuntu system, and I'd like to increase the size of the Ubuntu partition at the expense of the Windows partition. I've already shrunk the Windows partition, creating a large unallocated space between the Windows and Ubuntu partitions (See linked GParted screenshot). http://s17.postimage.org/5ppnrrnot/GParted.png I'd like to move my Ubuntu partition to the start of the unallocated space, and then increase its size to encompass all of the unallocated space. Once I try and move it (Using the GParted live cd), it tells me to expect big GRUB issues since I'm moving my Ubuntu partition's start sector. What is it that I should expect, and how do I handle it? With thanks, Anatoli

• Environment font size is too small

- by Adobe
So I've chosen a font by System Settings - Application Appearance - Fonts And there I've adjusted all fonts to be of 14th size. And also checked "Use my KDE fonts..." in Gtk+ appearance. I've also did the same using kdesudo systemsettings But still some fonts are tiny! It's not the 14th size! Edit 2: I thought it might be one of Gnome font settings. So I've increased all fonts in gnome-tweak-tool sudo gnome-tweak-tool gconf-editor sudo gconf-editor No help! Edit: Ubuntu tweak also gives no help (note the tiny fonts!): Edit: It looks like the problem is with gtk3: when I compile emacs 24.0.92 with gtk3 - i get small menu fonts. When I do the same with a default gtk2 - everything is all right.

• Html 5 – new size units

- by Norgean
There are some new size units with CSS 3, which allows you to resize elements relative to the viewport size. They are vw, vh, vmin (that’s vm in IE), and perhaps vmax. (Viewport width, height, smaller of the two, larger of the two.) 8vw is 8% of the viewport width – or 205 pixels on my 2560 screen. I created a tiny demo clock which sizes the elements so that it uses the whole screen. Clock – in Norwegian, but it’s the source that is interesting… Bug: Resize does not work. Tested for IE 9 & 10 and Chrome. Firefox and Safari: does not work.

• How to change font size on display

- by Tim
My laptop is Lenovo T400, whose screen size is 14.1 inches and default resolution is 1440 x 900. My main OS is Ubuntu 10.10. The default font size on the display is somehow small, which might contribute to the fatigue of my eyes. My previous laptop is Acer 5000, whose screen size is 15.4 inches and the default resolution is 1024 x 768. I like reading on my old laptop better than on my new one. Is it possible to change the setting of my new one to look like reading my old one? What are the parameters that control the font size? Are screen size, resolution part of them? In Windows, there are choices for font size, while in Ubuntu I haven't find out where I can change the setting and would like know if someone here knows about it. I also wonder if I can use a separate bigger display (perhaps just like a desktop display) as the display of my laptop, in case I don't want to enlarge font size at the cost of sacrificing the amount of the content to display, and how I shall do it? Thanks and regards!

• Kubuntu 12.04 - Touchpad and keyboard stopped working at random

- by StepTNT
As in the title, I've got this problem with my Kubuntu 12.04. At first I've thought that the whole system was hung, but it happened again 5 minutes ago and, while the keyboard and the touchpad stopped working, the music was still playing, so I guess that's just an "input" problem, because the system was still working! Any solution? Is there some data that you need to know about my setup? • Dynamic changes to thread stack size in Solaris 9 ?

- by Satya
Hello, I am looking for a configurable / tunable on Solaris 9 through which I can change the default thread stack size without recompiling the code to use "pthread_attr_setstacksize" For example on HPUX 11.11 / 11.23 the environment variable "PTHREAD_DEFAULT_STACK_SIZE" can be exported (available via HPUX patches PHCO_38307 / PHCO_38955 ) - Is there a equivalent Solaris 9 way to achieve the same ? Thanks! Satya

• JavaScript / jQuery: is it possible to change font-size to fill a set width?

- by Marius
Hello there :) I am writing an application, and in it, I would like to have some h1 elements with variable font size. I use the full width (1000px) of a div as a limiter, and a script that automatically sets the font of the h1-element so that it fits the width of the div without line break. This is quite easy to do with php GD, but I thought I wanted to do this client side. Thank you for your time. Kind regards Marius

• How can I track an asp.net pages size without tracing?

- by Middletone
I want to be able to track the amount of data that is being transfered from my web site to each user that accesses the site. I can do this for file downloads and such but what about the pure html content itself. How can I track the output size of a page (or the data that's trasnfered via an AJAX call) to the client and log it against a particular users session? Also how would this differ when GZip is used in IIS 6.0?

• Open source C program with little requirements and at least 2MB binary size.

- by max
Hi, I'm developing a operating system and I need a test program (function of any kind) to test certain internal features. I cannot find any appropriate program to do this job. Probably one of you knows one. The program should be open source, written in C with very little user library usage (only file IO, pthreads, stdio, stdlib preferred) and must have a binary size of at least 2MB. Thanks for any suggestions.

• Detect block size for quota in Linux

- by Chen Levy
The limit placed on disk quota in Linux is counted in blocks. However, I found no reliable way to determine the block size. Tutorials I found refer to block size as 512 bytes, and sometimes as 1024 bytes. I got confused reading a post on LinuxForum.org for what a block size really means. So I tried to find that meaning in the context of quota. I found a "Determine the block size on hard disk filesystem for disk quota" tip on NixCraft, that suggested the command: dumpe2fs /dev/sdXN | grep -i 'Block size' or blockdev --getbsz /dev/sdXN But on my system those commands returned 4096, and when I checked the real quota block size on the same system, I got a block size of 1024 bytes. Is there a scriptable way to determine the quota block size on a device, short of creating a known sized file, and checking it's quota usage?

• What does size really mean in geom_point?

- by Jonas Stein
In both plots the points look different, but why? mya <- data.frame(a=1:100) ggplot() + geom_path(data=mya, aes(x=a, y=a, colour=2, size=seq(0.1,10,0.1))) + geom_point(data=mya, aes(x=a, y=a, colour=1, size=1)) + theme_bw() + theme(text=element_text(size=11)) ggplot() + geom_path(data=mya, aes(x=a, y=a, colour=2, size=1)) + geom_point(data=mya, aes(x=a, y=a, colour=1, size=1)) + theme_bw() + theme(text=element_text(size=11))

• Windows 7 doesn't show image size for all images

- by Cole Johnson
On Windows 7's new file layout in Explorer. Some PNGs will show the size whereas others won't. I've tried rebooting and clearing the cache, but it doesn't work. Also, all of these images were saved with Paint.NET, so I am sure that the size isn't embeded in the file, and if it is, it appears that Windows doesn't go by it. The ones without sizes are 300x300. Is there a maximum size before it won't show the size anymore?

• Why is my Internet connection randomly dropping?

- by Jeanno
Ever since I have installed 12.04 (clean install not an upgrade), i have been having a drop in the Internet connection. The drop in the connection can be anything from 15 seconds to about 3 mins, and then the connection comes back. This behaviour happens while I am actively browsing the Internet, or if I wake up the computer and open Firefox (sometimes I have connection and sometimes I don't) . Please note that when the internet connection is on, it is not slow (as speedtest.net results show) In the beginning, I thought it was a problem with the driver r8169 for my RTL8111/8168B Ethernet card, so I downloaded the r8168 from Realtek website, followed the detailed instructions (blacklisted r8169, changed the file to '.bsh' ...), but still the same problem persisted. So I switched to a wireless connection, and I got the same problem with internet connection dropping randomly. Any ideas? • how to create java zip archives with a max file size limit [closed]

- by Marci Casvan
I need to write an algorithm in java (for an android app) to read a folder containing more folders and each of those containing images and audio files so the structure is this: mainDir/subfolders/myFile1.jpg It must be in java, something like perl script is not an option. It would preferably be for the compressed archive in order to squeeze as many files as possible before mailing the zip. Just a normal zip (no jar). My problem is that I need to limit the size of the archive to 16mb and at runtime, create as many archives as needed to contain all my files from my main mainDir folder. I tried several examples from the net, I read the java documentation, but I can't manage to understand and put it all together the way I need it. Has someone done this before or has a link or an example for me? I resolved the reading of the files with a recursive method but I can't write the logic for the zip creation I'm open for suggestions or better, a working example. EDIT: FileNotFoundException (no such file or directory) this was my initial post at Stack Overflow. I've got an answer to it, but I can't set the size of the ZipEntry and the logic doesn't work and also when extracting the my files from the zip I get the compression method not supported error.

• External Full HD monitor and Virtual Desktop Size

- by Stefan
I have two FullHD monitors attached to my ATI graphics card [2]. The resolution of both of them is detected properly without any modifications to /etc/X11/xorg.conf. I can run both of them in clone mode. However, when I try to run them next to each other, I got the following error: The selected configuration for displays could not be applied. If tried to fix this according to [1]. My xorg.conf now looks like this: Section "Module" Load "glx" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" # The 1088 is the smallest multiple of 32 >= 1088 # see manpages Virtual 1920 1088 EndSubSection EndSection This does not seem to be parsed properly. After restarting X, I cannot set resolutions beyond 1600 or so any more. /var/log/Xorg.0.log gives: [ 15.676] (II) fglrx(0): Not using mode "1920x1080" (width too large for virtual size) [ 15.676] (II) fglrx(0): Not using mode "1680x1050" (width too large for virtual size) Are my modifications syntactically incorrect? According to the man page, it should be fine. Any ideas? • Informing GUI objects about screen size - Designing

- by Mosquito
I have a problem with designing classes for my game which I create. In my app, there is: class CGame which contains all the information about game itself, e.g. screen width, screen height, etc. In the main() function I create a pointer to CGame instance. class CGUIObject which includes fields specifying it's position and draw() method, which should know how to draw an object according to screen size. class CGUIManager which is a singleton and it includes a list of CGUIObject's. For each object in a list it just calls draw() method. For clarity's sake, I'll put some simple code: class CGame { int screenWidth; int screenHeight; }; class CGUIObject { CPoint position; void draw(); // this one needs to know what is a screen's width and height }; class CGUIManager // it's a singleton { vector<CGUIObject*> guiObjects; void drawObjects(); }; And the main.cpp: CGame* g; int main() { g = new CGame(); while(1) { CGUIManager::Instance().drawObjects(); } return 0; } Now the problem is, that each CGUIObject needs to know the screen size which is held by CGame, but I find it very dumb to include pointer to CGame instance in every object. Could anyone, please, tell me what would be the best approach to achieve this?

• How to crop or get a smaller size UIImage in iPhone without memory leaks?

- by rkbang
Hello all, I am using a navigation controller in which I push a tableview Controller as follows: TableView *Controller = [[TableView alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewStylePlain]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:Controller animated:NO]; [Controller release]; In this table view I am using following two methods to display images: - (UIImage*) getSmallImage:(UIImage*) img { CGSize size = img.size; CGFloat ratio = 0; if (size.width < size.height) { ratio = 36 / size.width; } else { ratio = 36 / size.height; } CGRect rect = CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, ratio * size.width, ratio * size.height); UIGraphicsBeginImageContext(rect.size); [img drawInRect:rect]; return UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext(); UIGraphicsEndImageContext(); } - (UIImage*)imageByCropping:(UIImage *)imageToCrop toRect:(CGRect)rect { //create a context to do our clipping in UIGraphicsBeginImageContext(rect.size); CGContextRef currentContext = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); //create a rect with the size we want to crop the image to //the X and Y here are zero so we start at the beginning of our //newly created context CGFloat X = (imageToCrop.size.width - rect.size.width)/2; CGFloat Y = (imageToCrop.size.height - rect.size.height)/2; CGRect clippedRect = CGRectMake(X, Y, rect.size.width, rect.size.height); //CGContextClipToRect( currentContext, clippedRect); //create a rect equivalent to the full size of the image //offset the rect by the X and Y we want to start the crop //from in order to cut off anything before them CGRect drawRect = CGRectMake(0, 0, imageToCrop.size.width, imageToCrop.size.height); CGContextTranslateCTM(currentContext, 0.0, drawRect.size.height); CGContextScaleCTM(currentContext, 1.0, -1.0); //draw the image to our clipped context using our offset rect //CGContextDrawImage(currentContext, drawRect, imageToCrop.CGImage); CGImageRef tmp = CGImageCreateWithImageInRect(imageToCrop.CGImage, clippedRect); //pull the image from our cropped context UIImage *cropped = [UIImage imageWithCGImage:tmp];//UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext(); CGImageRelease(tmp); //pop the context to get back to the default UIGraphicsEndImageContext(); //Note: this is autoreleased*/ return cropped; } But when I pop the Controller, the memory being used is not released. Is there any leaks in the above code used to create and crop images. Also are there any efficient method to deal with images in iPhone. I am having a lot of images and facing major challeges in resolving the memory issues. tnx in advance.

• How to reliably get size of C-style array?

- by Frank
How do I reliably get the size of a C-style array? The method often recommended seems to be to use sizeof, but it doesn't work in the foo function, where x is passed in: #include <iostream> void foo(int x[]) { std::cerr << (sizeof(x) / sizeof(int)); // 2 } int main(){ int x[] = {1,2,3,4,5}; std::cerr << (sizeof(x) / sizeof(int)); // 5 foo(x); return 0; } Answers to this question recommend sizeof but they don't say that it (apparently?) doesn't work if you pass the array around. So, do I have to use a sentinel instead? (I don't think the users of my foo function can always be trusted to put a sentinel at the end. Of course, I could use std::vector, but then I don't get the nice shorthand syntax {1,2,3,4,5}.)
