  • Can't change Hyper Terminal Hardware Settings

    Anyone here any good with Hyperterminal? Am having a nightmare trying to use it at work to update our telephone extensions. The company who supply our PABX box have told me that XP does strange things to Hyperterminal and that I should use Win2k. Which I did with the same result. I have narrowed the problem dowwn to the Hardware Settings for the connection in Hyper Terminal. No matter what I set (and I need 7E1) it defaults back to 8N1. Has anyone seen this behaviour before and know of a simple way around it? (Apart from buying a more expensive commercial version of Hyper Terminal, as suggested by our support people). Edit: I should point out I have to connect via a phone line so a direct serial connection is not an option. Cheers Tim

  • Meta key in Terminal.app vs national characters

    I'm using Terminal.app, and I'd like to use emacs running inside - either locally, or after sshing to remote server. Problem is, I can't get working Meta modifier. Namely, if I enable 'Use option as meta key', Option key works like proper Meta, but I lose ability to enter Polish diacritics (aelósznzc), that are entered with right Option. If I disable 'Use option as meta key', my Meta is gone, but I can again use Polish characters. In this state they appear only with right Option modifier, so I guess it's Terminal.app's fault that it doesn't make a difference between left and right Option key, when the relevant preference is selected. What are my options then? Is there a good solution for my problem? I can always use ESC as a poor man's Meta replacement, but I don't like that idea.

  • Terminal app on Mac OS X - normal keys

    There are some default terminal things different for the Mac (for example, Command C to copy and Command V to paste rather than simply highlighting/right clicking). These are fine with me. What bothers me though is I can't figure out how to click or use the F keys. The main app I have problems with is htop. Htop supports clicking on column names to sort, etc. Also, to exit the app, you are supposed to press F10. But F10 simply mutes my volume. I've tried different combinations of things like alt F10. I usually have to quit htop by pressing CTRL-C Any ideas on how to get normal terminal behaviors? Normal meaning linux

  • Unable to bring back terminal launcher in fedora

    Our office housing keeping guy sat on my linux (Fedora 7) system and somehow removed the main panel. By panel I mean where all the menus are there - Applications, Places, System etc. and contains a tab for every running application. I brought back the panel but now I don't see the terminal launcher and I can't find it anywhere. It used to be there in "Applications - System Tools - Terminal" but now the System Tools option itself is not present there. System - Preferences - Look and Feel - Main Menu. There one System option is unchecked but I can't check it and apply. I am logged in as root. How do I bring it back? Please help. This is very irritating and weird. That guy doesn't even know what he has done so no use of asking him. :)

  • Vim configuration slow in Terminal & iTerm2 but not in MacVim

    Ideally, I want to use Vim from Terminal or iTerm2. However, it becomes unbearably slow so I had to resort to using MacVim. There is nothing wrong with MacVim, however my workflow would be much smoother if I used only Terminal/iTerm2. When its slow Loading files, in particular Rails files takes about 1 - 1.5s. Removing rails.vim decreases this time to 0.5 - 1s. In MacVim this is instantaneous. Scrolling through the rows and columns via h, j, k, l. It progressively gets slower the longer I hold down the keys. Eventually, it starts jumping rows. I have my Key Repeat set to Fast and Delay Until Repeat set to Short. After 10 - 15 minutes of usage, using plugins such as ctrlp or Command-T gets very laggy. I'd type a letter, wait 2 - 3s, then type the next.   • How to Launch Spotlight from the Terminal

    I used this tip top hide my menu bar in a bunch of applications, which is a great way to get more free screen space. The one downside is that (for inexplicable reasons) it disables Spotlight when I'm in those applications--e.g. even if I hover over the menu bar to make it appear, clicking on the Spotlight icon does nothing. I have a plan to work around this: I'd like to launch Spotlight using QuicKeys, which lets you run terminal commands using keyboard shortcuts. But to do that, I need to know how to launch Spotlight with a terminal command. Does anyone know how to do this? I'm on OS X 10.6.

    I am obviously stupid... because I'm logged into this Windows 2003 Server box as administrator, yet when I go under Administrative Tools, I can't find "Terminal Services Manager". Terminal Services are installed... I'm using them right now... and I know that's where the manager is supposed to be... yet it is not what am I missing? why isn't it showing? where else can I find it?

How do I allocate memory so that any user who connects to this Terminal Server (from their thin-client) is allocated 2GB (or whatever amount I choose) of memory? Currently I have provisioned the TS with 2GB of memory but it seems that this is shared among all that connect. Please let me know if there is further information I can provide. Thank you. Update 1: What I'm looking to accomplish with this server is setting up a VDI to allow users to connect from thin-clients from within our network. They will also have to connect from outside our network via VPN which is already in place. Am I able to set this up using Windows Server 2008 (not R2) because I have a 16-bit application which needs to be supported. Unfortunately it's not a candidate as a Remote App.

    Hi We have a Hyper-V cluster running 5 virtual terminal servers using HA. We need to be able make this system redundant and so if this site was to fail our users could log into the backup system at another location and access their data via the terminal servers. Any ideas? We were thinking of maybe using a NAS which replicated the data to the other location in real-time(pass-through disks)? and having a similar Hyper-V cluster setup in the backup location. However we would need to create the users in both location and create a virtual mirror without the data ie applications, directories, settings etc. Is this the best way to achieve this? We have read that using Hyper-v pass through disks is a big performance de-grade.

  • Terminal Server 2008 - Slow File open dialog in Office 2003

    I have yet another small issue that annoys me everyday in our Terminal Server environment. It seems when logging into Terminal Server users report the initial File | Open or File | Save As from within an application such as Word, Excel (2003 edition) is very slow to display the actual dialog box. The dialog appears quickly but it is whited out (sometimes displays not responding in title bar) and unresponsive, it then sits like this for about 20-30 secs before popping into life and displaying all the folders etc. The second time you go to save or open a file it loads almost instantly. Any suggestions or similar problems out there?

  • Terminal mail delivery delay in Mac OS X

    I'm using mail from the Mac OS X terminal to send the results of a database query to me via email. Most of the time it works, but sometimes there is a long delay before the mail arrives (often when another similar script is run). It looks like there is some kind of send queue, but I can't find any documentation mentioning this. Is there something I need to do to flush mail from the terminal? UPDATE: Sometimes delivery doesn't even seem to happen, though I get no errors at the console. Very weird.

  • Terminal Server Install -- Add/Remove Program Message on NonAdministrator Machines

    First time poster... My company uses terminal services for one of our remote offices. Data is kept on a different server. OS is Windows Server 2003. Last week, they needed to purchase a program and have it installed on terminal server, which was done. An administrator session was started, the TS was put into install mode and the program was installed. The TS was then put back into execute mode. The install did not require a reboot. Since then, when any user who does not have administrator privileges initiates a remote session and logs in they get a security message that says "Add / Remove programs has been restricted. Please contact your system administrator." The only option is to click OK, which everyone does and after that there are no issues. Anyone have any idea why this is happening and how to fix? Thanks!

    We use StoneEdge Order Manager, which runs under Microsoft Access, on several Windows computers as well as through Terminal Services on Windows Server 2008. Terminal Services users are unable to process credit cards using the First Data Global Gateway on the server. We have followed the necessary setup instructions provided under the user account, which involves adding a certificate in the Internet Options control panel. The Windows XP desktops require this to be done, or a generic 'unable to connect' message is shown when attempting to charge a card. On the server, this message is shown regardless of whether the certificate has been installed. Is there anything else that needs to be done that is specific to Windows Server that is not mentioned in the workstation instructions? Setup Instructions

    Afternoon. We have three identical terminal servers running Windows Server 2003 SP2, on these servers there are about 250 concurrent users logged on. We're running Roaming Profiles on a central server running Active Directory which cache the profiles locally on each terminal server as well. When one, and just that one, user tries to login she gets this error message (roughly translated from Swedish): "You could not be logged in becouse your principle could not be registered. Check that you're connected to the network or ask your administrator Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service." Anyone have an idea about this? I'm stumped ...     I have a single page website built on bootstrap 3, that I am trying to move to Google Apps Engine. I Scaffold my sites using php, and all the content is showing but not the styles and javascript. My site is basically set up as follows _/js/bootstrap.js _/js/custom.js _/fonts/glypicon ...etc _/css/bootstrap.css _/css/custom.css _/php/ .. all my php files go here ... index.php can someone help me setup my app.yaml for this? I am new to GAE, and am a little confused by this.

  • Using terminal vs KDE in linux?

    Hi Im used to using nautilus within centos but have recently just got a VPS and quickly realising that using a KDE is unacceptable in this environment. Although I do find it so much quicker doing things like folder permissions in KDE rather than typing it all out in the terminal? Everyone I speak to says, use the terminal and I should learn this way as opposed to using the KDE, but theres certain things I just dont get How is it possible to make quick changes to scripts and viewing them in a browser etc , without a mouse or using KDE? and only using a terminal?? I am wondering how to develop websites just using the terminal??? How can it be quicker to type out/view permissions etc in the terminal when its instant and just a few clicks in the KDE? Any thoughts are much appreciated. I would love to understand the benefits but just cant seem to see them right now. Cheers Ke.

    I'm developing a GWT app running on the Google App Engine and wondering if I need to worry about Cross-site request forgery or is that automatically taken care of for me? Is it enough to rely on the code above or do I need to to more? I'm a beginner at this, but from what I understand to avoid CSRF attacks some of the strategies are: adding an authentication token in the request payload instead of just checking a cookie checking the HTTP Referer header I can see that I have cookies set from Google with what look like SID values, but I can't tell from the serialized Java objects in the payloads if tokens are being passed or not. I also don't know if the Referer header is being used or not. So, am I worrying about a non-issue? If not, what is the best strategy here? This is a common enough problem, that there must be standard solutions out there...

    I'm having problems uploading an app to the google-app-engine from my work place. I believe the problem is related to proxy, because I do not see the same problem when following the same procedure from home. (I do not specify HTTP_PROXY from home). These are the commands I run: HTTP_PROXY=http://proxy.<thehostname>.com:8080 HTTP_PROXY=https://proxy.<thehostname>.com:8080 appcfg.py --insecure update myappfolder When running the commands I get prompted for email and password, as expected, but after that it immediately exits with this errormessage: Error 302: --- begin server output --- <HTML> <HEAD> <TITLE>Moved Temporarily</TITLE> </HEAD> <BODY BGCOLOR="#FFFFFF" TEXT="#000000"> <H1>Moved Temporarily</H1> The document has moved <A HREF="https://www.google.com/accounts/ClientLogin">here</A>. </BODY> </HTML> --- end server output --- Note: I added the --insecure option because else it gave a warning of missing ssl module. Any idea how to solve or workaround this problem?

    We have been adding domains to our app without any issues for past couple months, following these instructions https://developers.google.com/appengine/articles/domains Since yesterday we have not been able to, when clicking Activate this service we get this error message "An error occurred while trying to install this application. Please try again later." We have tried this also with older domains and with different apps and getting the same error, so the problem seems to be more widespread, not isolated to particular domains / apps. Does anyone know how to solve? Thanks Ron

  • MultiView 2000 terminal emulator not printing correctly to Generic/Text Printer on Windows 7

    Guys & gals, Hope someone can shed some light on this. I am downloading reports from an AIX-based system by directing them to a TT printer which the terminal emulator (MultiView 2000) intercepts and directs to the default printer on the local system. This local printer is configured as a vanilla Generic/Text printer attached to a FILE port. When I print from AIX, the output is spooled down and the local printer prompts for a file name into which to save the file...but not under Windows 7. This has worked fine for many years, on both Win2K and WinXP. However, on Windows 7 the output gets spooled as a file into spool\PRINTERS (and looks as expected) but the print job then hangs with a status of "Error - Printing" and never prompts for a file name. I have to cancel the job. The Generic/Text printer works as expected with other applications. I have tried setting the printer to print directly rather than spooling but this only serves to hang the terminal session too. I've also tried to run the emulator in Windows 2000 Compatibility Mode and as Administrator in case it was something like that but with no luck. As you might expect, it does work fine in XP Mode (as long as I print to a printer defined therein and not the host's printer) but operationally this isn't going to be an option. Obviously this emulation software is a decade old (at least) and I could just cross/upgrade all the users (at a cost) but, before I do so, has anyone seen this sort of behaviour before and found some sort of fix?   • Windows 2008 Terminal Services "Easy Print" and Matrix Printers

    Server: Windows 2008 Server Standard SP2 with "Terminal Services" role Clients: Windows XP SP3 + .NET 3.5 Framework SP1 + Remote Desktop Client 7.0 We are using "Easy Print" feature which allows programs running on server to "see" printers installed on client machines. Everything works fine, EXCEPT when we send a text-only output to a dot-matrix printer. In this case, the printer only outputs a blank page. At first, we had problems with the error "Windows Presentation Foundation Terminal Server Print W has encountered a problem and needs to close." but this was fixed by replacing TsWpfWrp.exe with the one from Vista SP1 as suggested here. But now, we only get a blank page! Every other (graphical) document we sent to printer works 100%. We also tried to use the "Generic text-only" driver, but the result is same. Now we are trying to change parameters like print processor on "advanced" tab from printer driver to see if something happen. But this is just guessing and we really don't know what to try anymore. The problem appears to be on Easy Print driver, but we found almost no resources about it. Any tips are welcome.

    We have a lot of mobile/home users with different client side printers attached. Most of these users don't need to print on the client side and we don't want all of these users Terminal Services sessions trying to map their client side printers and we don't want all of these drivers on the Terminal Server. What is the best way to set up around 90 users to have no client side printer redirection and 10 users to have client side printer redirection (to the printers attached to their home computers)? Do I need to create two separate OU's in AD one for redirection and one for no redirection and create two different policies one for each OU? One GPO with Client Server data redirection Do not allow client printer redirection disabled and one enabled? Is it preferrable instead to change each user's AD User Properties Enviroment Client devices Connect client printers at logon setting? Is there any for me to direct "ALL HP Printers" to a single HP Universal Printer Driver, "ALL Canon Printers" to a single Canon Universal Printer Driver, etc without specifying hundreds of unique printer names in the printsub.inf file?
