• thunar-archive-plugin not working

  After I experienced serious not yet resolved performance issues with Nautilus I decided to move to XUbuntu so I installed its metapackage from Ubuntu and started using it. It turns out that the archive plugin for Thunar (provides the "Extract here" option in the contextual menu when right clicking over a compressed archive) is not working, even after I apt-get purged it and reinstalled. It simply doesn't show its options in the contextual menu. What should I do to make it work?

• Bash command history not working

  The command history between sessions is not getting saved. I'm using guake and the history for the session is working fine. I noticed that .bash_history had some commands I executed in "sudo -s" mode and tried the same again and all the commands while in the session got saved so I tried "chmod 777 .bash_history" Now the old commands appear at the start of a session but no new commands are getting saved Thanx in advance

• Transmission stopped working, says it's not installed even though it is

  So transmission decided to randomly stop working. When I click on torrents transmission comes up as an option, but when I click ok nothing happens. When I go to the terminal and try to open transmission it tells me it's not installed. it recommends I install it with sudo apt-get install transmission-gtk. When I do this it says something like "transmission already newest version." So it's installed, clearly. Somebodddy help!

I asked about this on #ubuntu IRC and they said that I am missing the proprietary drivers for it. There is nothing under Additional Drivers in Software and Updates Bluetooth does work 'Try Ubuntu mode' when I boot Ubuntu from DVD/USB. How can I get the required drivers?

• Laptop screen not detected but ubuntu working on other monitor

  I have a laptop with with intel celeron inside 64 bit, the 64 bit amd ubuntu 11.10 is working on the laptop, just it wont detect the laptop screen but the same live usb worked on amd 64 pc, When i connected the desktop computer monitor to the laptop it worked perfectly with 1920x1080 screen, battery, WIFI. Im not sure if its cause i made the usb it with LiLo live usb creator on the desktop pc, should i remake the usb on the laptop?

• Dell Latitude E6420 in-built microphone not working

  I'm running with Ubuntu 12.04 64bit on Dell Latitude E6420. The inbuilt microphone is not working, and is not listed on the sound settings dialog. According to lspci, the device is: 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04) I've also looked at alsamixer, and can see a "mic" and "dock mic" but fiddling with these and increasing to max amplification doesn't appear to change anything. • Webdav stops working after a few seconds

  With Ubuntu 13.10, I connect to two different OwnCloud installations and can browse for only a few seconds before it freezes the connection and stops working. When I try to reinstate the connection it fails to even ask for the password (Ubuntu was told to forget the password). I did check the webdav connection through Firefox on two computers and ES File Explorer on android. I know that this isn't a webdav problem and don't know what is happening in Ubuntu to stop being able to read the connection.

• Mouse Not Working Properly

  I just did a clean install of Ubuntu 11.10 but for some reason the mouse isn't working properly. Problems I'm experiencing are: left button on the mouse doesn't work, the cursor doesn't highlight anything, as well, the right side will not do a double click function. Doesn't seem to bring up the mouse menu to "go back" as well, "go forward" options. In order to make things work, I have to use the Enter key, and arrow keys.

• Touch pad 2 finger scroll not working

  I purchased a new Samsung Series 7 laptop, Model: 700Z5B to be exact. I have everything working great using Ubuntu 11.10, the only issue is that the 2 finger scroll on the track pad does not work. Does anyone have any pointers for what I need to do to configure it. I've looked around on the forums and have not found anything that has worked yet. I don't even see the trackpad options under the mouse and touchpad settings area.

  I have 13.04 64 bit Ubuntu installed and I'm using Unity Tweak tool to enable hot corners everything works as it should as long as I don't reboot as soon as I do hotcorners stops working. In order to get them functioning again I have to open the tweak tool and turn hotcorners off and then back on after every reboot. This I admit isn't a huge issue but is annoying is there anyway to get hotcorners to work properly after reboot with out having to reset them every time?

By far and away the most common technique deployed as carefully isolating work from home life. Carol writes: I love working from home and have done so for 6 years now. I have a routine just as if I was going to an office, except my commute is 12 steps. I get ready for work, grab my purse and smart phone and go to up the steps to my office. I maintain a separate phone line and voice mail for work that I cannot answer from anywhere but my work desk. I use call forwarding when I travel so only my office phone number is published. I have VOIP phone service so I can forward calls from the internet if I forget, or need to change where the phone is forwarded. I do have a wired and wireless head set so I can go get a cold drink if on one of those long boring conference calls. I plan my ‘get off from work’ time and try to stick to it, as with any job some days I am late getting off, but it all works out. I make sure my office is for work only, any other computer play time is in a different part of the house on different computer. My office has laptop, dock, couple of monitors, multipurpose printer, fax, scanner, file cabinets – just like the office at a company. I just also happen to have a couple of golden retrievers that come to work with me and usually lay quietly until 5, and yes they know it is 5pm sometimes before I do. For me, one of the biggest concerns when working from home is not being unproductive, but the danger of never stopping work. You could keep going and going because let’s face it – the company will let you do it, so I set myself up to prevent that and maintain a separateness. • Threads slowing down application and not working properly

  I'm making a software renderer which does per-polygon rasterization using a floating point digital differential analyzer algorithm. My idea was to create two threads for rasterization and have them work like so: one thread draws each even scanline in a polygon and the other thread draws each odd scanline, and they both start working at the same time, but the main application waits for both of them to finish and then pauses them before continuing with other computations. As this is the first time I'm making a threaded application, I'm not sure if the following method for thread synchronization is correct: First of all, I use two global variables to control the two threads, if a global variable is set to 1, that means the thread can start working, otherwise it must not work. This is checked by the thread running an infinite loop and if it detects that the global variable has changed its value, it does its job and then sets the variable back to 0 again. The main program also uses an empty while to check when both variables become 0 after setting them to 1. Second, each thread is assigned a global structure which contains information about the triangle that is about to be rasterized. The structures are filled in by the main program before setting the global variables to 1. My dilemma is that, while this process works under some conditions, it slows down the program considerably, and also it fails to run properly when compiled for Release in Visual Studio, or when compiled with any sort of -O optimization with gcc (i.e. nothing on screen, even SEGFAULTs). The program isn't much faster by default without threads, which you can see for yourself by commenting out the #define THREADS directive, but if I apply optimizations, it becomes much faster (especially with gcc -Ofast -march=native). N.B. It might not compile with gcc because of fscanf_s calls, but you can replace those with the usual fscanf, if you wish to use gcc. Because there is a lot of code, too much for here or pastebin, I created a git repository where you can view it. My questions are: Why does adding these two threads slow down my application? Why doesn't it work when compiling for Release or with optimizations? Can I speed up the application with threads? If so, how? Thanks in advance.

  I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 on Dell Vostro 1520 Laptop. But found Wifi is hardware locked, though wifi is working perfectly fine with Windows 7 in the same laptop. I tried to upgrade the drivers as mentioned in other posts/forums but could not resolve the issue. I had the similar problem with versions 11.* as well. Last time the Wifi worked with 10.* version. Please help me to get it resolved.

• Gnome fallback move to workspace not working - Ubuntu 14.04

The thing that is not working for me is that when I right click on a window's top bar and then click Move to Workspace Up for example, it puts the window in that workspace but it also keeps it in the current workspace.   HI i had just got my wifi to work properly in 12.04 and I got a pop up from update manager saying there was 100's of updates I needed to install so i installed them it then said I needed to reboot which I did but now my wifi isn't working I go add a new connection and I have no wifi option just Ethernet also the pci card is showing no signs of life (the green light is not light) but when i go in to terminal and type lspci it is showing my wifi card in the list whats gone wrong and how do i fix it???

• Simple way to get keys/mouse buttons working in Synergy (mac client, pc server)

  I'm trying to get Synergy working running as client on my Mac with SynergyKM Preferences panel. It's performing generally fine (just some real slow downs when my network is under heavy use, usually from youtube videos). The main thing I want to get working is none of the special buttons on my mouse are working on the client.. just the scroll and middle click.. but I have back/forward buttons I'd like to have working. Also my Windows Comfort Curve Keyboard has some extra keys and I'd like to know how to set those up to perform operations on my Mac client. I could have sworn that home/end weren't working but they seem to be now.. perhaps it's application specific..
