• Custom Solr sorting

  Hello everyone, I've been asked to do an evaluation of Solr as an alternative for a commercial search engine. The application now has a very particular way of sorting results using something called "buckets". I'll try to explain with a bit of details: In the interface they have 2 fields: "what" and "where". Both fields are actually sets of fields (what = category, name, contact info... and where= country, state, region, city...) so the copyfield feature of Solr immediately comes to mind. Now based on the field generated the actual match the result should end up in a specific bucket. In particular the first bucket contains all the result documents that have an exact match on the category field, in the second bucket all exact matches on name, the third partial matches on category, the fourth partial matches on name, the fifth matches on contact info etc... Then within each of those first tier buckets all results are placed in second tier buckets depending on what location was matched: city, then region, then province and so on. To even complicate things more there is also a third tier bucket where results are placed according to the value of a ranking field: all documents with the value 1 in the ranking field go in bucket 1 and so on. And finally results should be randomized in the third tier bucket... On top of this they obviously want support for facets and paging. My apologies for the long mail but I would greatly appreciate feedback and/or suggestions. • Possibility of a custom Contacts field with a set list of values and Contacts lookup performance

  I'm pretty sure it's not viable to do what I'd like to based on some initial research, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask the community of experts here in case someone knows a way. I'd like to create a custom field for contacts that the user is able to edit from the main Contacts app; however, the user should only be allowed to select from a list of four specific values. A short list of string values would be ideal, but an int with a min/max range would suffice. I'm interested in knowing if it's possible either way, but also wondering if it make sense to go this route performance wise. More specifically, would it be better to look up a contact (based on a phone number) each time a call or SMS message is received or better to store my own set of data (consisting of name, numbers, and the custom field) and just syncing contact info in a thread every so often? Or syncing contacts the first time the app is run and then registering for changes using ContentObserver? • Unit testing a Grails custom taglib based on built-in Grails taglib

  I've an app based on Grails 1.3.7. And I need to write a unit test for a custom taglib that is based on the built-in taglib, <g:select /> to be specific. I checked out the solution on this previous SO post but the solution stated is not working in my case (some properties are not being prooperly mocked up). The other solution that I found was this. Using this approach, I get most of the properties of FormTagLib mocked up except for the grailsApplication property that select requires. The actual error that I get is Cannot invoke method getArtefact() on null object. How can I properly write the unit test in such a case? Edit Here are my test class and the full stacktrace. Line #45 on the stacktrace is the call to the g.select from my custom taglib. • Problem creating a custom input element using FluentHtml (MVCContrib)

  Hi there, I just recently started dabbling in ASP.NET MVC 1.0 and came across the wonderful MVCContrib. I had originally gone down the path of creating some extended html helpers, but after finding FluentHTML decided to try my hand at creating a custom input element. Basically I am wanting to ultimately create several custom input elements to make it easier for some other devs on the project I'm working on to add their input fields to the page and have all of my preferred markup to render for them. So, in short, I'd like to wrap certain input elements with additional markup.. A TextBox would be wrapped in an <li /> for example. I've created my custom input elements following Tim Scott's answer in another question on here: DRY in the MVC View. So, to further elaborate, I've created my class, "TextBoxListItem": public class TextBoxListItem : TextInput<TextBox> { public TextBoxListItem (string name) : base(HtmlInputType.Text, name) { } public TextBoxListItem (string name, MemberExpression forMember, IEnumerable<IBehaviorMarker> behaviors) : base(HtmlInputType.Text, name, forMember, behaviors) { } public override string ToString() { var liBuilder = new TagBuilder(HtmlTag.ListItem); liBuilder.InnerHtml = ToString(); return liBuilder.ToString(TagRenderMode.SelfClosing); } } I've also added it to my ViewModelContainerExtensions class: public static TextBox TextBoxListItem<T>(this IViewModelContainer<T> view, Expression<Func<T, object>> expression) where T : class { return new TextBoxListItem(expression.GetNameFor(view), expression.GetMemberExpression(), view.Behaviors) .Value(expression.GetValueFrom(view.ViewModel)); } And lastly, I've added it to ViewDataContainerExtensions as well: public static TextBox TextBoxListItem(this IViewDataContainer view, string name) { return new TextBox(name).Value(view.ViewData.Eval(name)); } I'm calling it in my view like so: <%= this.TextBoxListItem("username").Label("Username:") %> Anyway, I'm not getting anything other than the standard FluentHTML TextBox, not wrapped in <li></li> elements. • Custom Silverlight Splash Screen causes White Screen of Death

  I'm developing a Silverlight 4 application and I've created a custom splash screen. At first glance, the custom splash screen worked well - really well. After a few days I started noticing that the splash screen would no longer show and the screen would remain blank. This seems to only occur when I open multiple IE tabs/windows all pointing to this same application. The first few will load fine, while the following tabs/windows will remain "white" - as if nothing has/is loaded. This doesn't appear to be an issue with other browsers that I've tested with (i.e., Firefox and Chrome). Unfortunately, this product requires multiple screens to be open (and I'm not going to require our users to use a non-Microsoft internet browser). Furthermore, we have another product that hosts this Silverlight application inside a WPF WebBrowser control (which is similar to IE - and experiences the same issues as delineated above). Does anyone have any ideas on how to get around this? This is becoming increasingly frustrating. I should also point out, that the default splash screen seems to avoid these issues. When I remove the custom splash screen, we no longer see these problems. ANY help would be appreciated greatly! -Tom

• How to make quicksilver remember custom trigger

  I am trying to make a custom trigger for my shell/apple script file to run so I can just launch my dev environment at the push of a button. So basically: I have a shell script(and some apple script included) in ~ named start_server.sh which does 3 things: start up solr server start up memcached start up script/server I have a saved quicksilver command(.qs) that opens up start_server.sh(so start_server.sh, then the action is "Run in Terminal") I created a custom trigger that calls this saved qs command. I did that then tested it and it works. I then tried to double check it so I quit quicksilver and when I checked the triggers it just said: "Open (null)" as the action. I set the trigger again and when i restarted QS the same thing happened again. I don't know why but my old custom trigger to open terminal has worked since forever so why doesn't this one work? • SQLAlchemy Custom Type Which Contains Multiple Columns

  I would like to represent a datatype as a single column in my model, but really the data will be stored in multiple columns in the database. I cannot find any good resources on how to do this in SQLAlchemy. I would like my model to look like this(this is a simplified example using geometry instead of my real problem which is harder to explain): class 3DLine(DeclarativeBase): start_point = Column(my.custom.3DPoint) end_point = Column(my.custom.3DPoint) This way I could assign an object with the (x, y, z) components of the point at once without setting them individually. If I had to separate each component, this could get ugly, especially if each class has several of these composite objects. I would combine the values into one encoded field except that I need to query each value separately at times. I was able to find out how to make custom types using a single column in the documentation. But there's no indication that I can map a single type to multiple columns. I suppose I could accomplish this by using a separate table, and each column would be a foreign key, but in my case I don't think it makes sense to have a one to one mapping for each point to a separate table, and this still does not give the ability to set the related values all at once.

• MySQL query against pseudo-key-value pair data in WordPress custom query

  I'm writing a custom WordPress query to use some of the data which the Woothemes Diarise theme creates. Diarise is an event planner theme with calendar blah, blah... and uses custom fields to store the event start and end dates in WP custom fields in the *wp_postmeta* table, which implements a key-value store. So for each post in the "event" category, there are 2 records in *wp_postmeta*, named *event_start_date* and *event_end_date* that I'm interested in. The task is to compare a tourist's arrival and departure dates with the start and end dates of events, yielding a what's on list of events available. We thought we'd killed it with a grand flash of logic, that goes like this: Disregard any event that ends before the tourist arrives, and any that begin after the departure date. The problem I believe is in the dual reference to wpostmeta.meta_key, but how to get around that?

• Cannont Update control in WPF custom control

  I have created a custom control which holds a button in it. The button is styled, so as to hold a grid with two rows, an image in the first and a TextBlock in the second. I have written an Event Handler for the custom control. When the mouse enters the path of the object the MouseEnter event fires, where I try to change the TextBlock's FontSize and Foreground color, however the control does not update. In contrast, I have tried to modify an regular TextBlock's(not part a custom control and controltemplate) properties, and they update correctly, on the fly. What am I missing here?? Here is the code for the event handler: private void ThemeButton_MouseEnter(object sender, MouseEventArgs e) { InitializeProperties(); TextElement.FontSize = 16; TextElement.Text = "new text"; TextElement.Foreground = Brushes.Red; TextBlock element = MainWindow.FindChild<TextBlock>(MainWindow.StartWindow, "textField"); element.Text = "new text for regular textblock"; element.Foreground = Brushes.Red; } InitializeProperties is a methid that initializes TextElement(typeof TextBlock) and ImageElement(typeof Image) properties. They are not null. The properties are just regular .NET properties.

• Using custom FaultContract object causes 'Add Service Reference' to fail

  Hey, I just noticed something particular. I have an internal stock service which is published through basicHttpBinding, and a customBinding (http+binary) for which metadata is enabled. I also included a mex endpoint for http. We use Visual Studio 2008 & VB.NET Just recently we noticed that we were unable to succesfully add a service reference to this service in our other projects. All that it would generate was the first custom exception we included through a FaultContract (actually, there was only 1 type). if I'd add a simple web reference it would work correctly as well. Also, the WcfClient.exe had no problems either in loading the services. Just VS.NET add service reference wouldn't work. In the service this exception inherits from Exception and is marked as serializable. That's all you're supposed to do, no? Anyway, this had me baffled. If I remove the FaultContract for this custom exception everything works fine. I can add a service reference, no problem. But is there a way I can still have my custom exceptions? Is this a known problem? Thx!

• Dynamically disable custom (VBA) Excel context menu buttons?

  The Scenario Hi guys, I am about to add a few custom controls to the cell context menu in my Excel workbook using the instructions found on this MSDN page. The only problem I am having is that I need the items to only be enabled for a specific column/range of cells. I've looked around, and I've been unable to find any steps for this--there are some for VSTO development (written in C#), but that is not what I need. I plan to write this using the VBA IDE built into Office, and perhaps a bit of XML using the Custom UI Editor. The Question So basically, I'm looking for a way to run a function at the time the context menu is called (i.e., upon right-click) that validates the selection to make sure it is in the appropriate column. If it isn't, I would like my custom buttons to be greyed out. P.S. Please don't think I am asking you to write my code. Creating these buttons should be very simple, as I have created many before (albeit they were all Ribbon items), and I hope it is okay to ask for some quick assistance on this very specific issue.   Cenario: I have a GridView bound to a DataSource, every column is sortable. my main query is something like: select a, b, c, d, e, f from table order by somedate desc i added a filter form where i can define values to each one of the fields and get the results of a where form. As a result from this, i had to do a custom sorting so that when i sort by a field, i am sorting the filtered query and not the main one. Now i have to do custom paging, for the same reason, but i don't understand the philosophy of it: I want to guarantee that i can: filter the results sort by a column when i click on page 2, i get page two of the filtered and sorted results I don't know what i have to do, so i can bind the GV with this. My sorting Method, that is working just fine looks something like: string condition = GetConditions(); //gets a string like " where a>1 and b>2" depending on the filter the user defines string query = "select a, b, c, d, e, f from table "; string direction = (e.SortDirection == SortDirection.Ascending)? • jQuery validation plugin - no error messages instead custom backgrounds

  I am using the jQuery validation plugin. The form which is being validated has custom background images for the text input fields, so instead of showing an error message for invalid fields I would like to change the background image. Making things a bit trickier is that the background image for the fields is on a different div absolutely positioned behind the text field (which has a transparent background and no border). I will spare going into the reasons for this design decision here (it's related to margins within the text field) but I thought it should be mentioned since it is critical to this question. Therefore, I have two questions: How can I stop the display of the error messages all-together? How can I instead tell the validation plugin if, for example, the name field (e.g. <input id=name ... />) is invalid then it should change the background for the relevant div (e.g. <div id=name-bg... ></div>)?   I'm new to writing custom controls. I have MyCustomControl.cs and in my Render method I want to render out about 50 lines of JavaScript. I also want to keep any indentation for readability once it's spit out/rendered on the client when viewing source.

• MVC3 Custom view engine

  I have a custom View Engine that derives from WebFormViewEngine. There's a lot of stuff going on in here, mostly caching. I want to be able to use WebFormViewEngine AND RazorViewEngine at the same time, is this possible? Ideally I'd like to do; ViewEngines.Add(new MyViewEngine<WebFormsViewEngine>()); ViewEngines.Add(new MyViewEngine<RazorViewEngine>()); if a .ascx/.aspx/.master file exists then use WebForms, otherwise use Razor is a .cshtml file exists. EDIT: I should of worded my question better. As my custom view engine derives from WebFormViewEngine it obviously uses WebForms, I can't derive from two classes. I can derive from RazorViewEngine but then I'll loose WebForms. I can duplicate my code entirely, derive from RazorViewEngine and edit the views file extensions, etc. but as I said I've got a lot of custom code in my view engine and would be duplicating hundreds of lines. WebFormViewEngine and RazorViewEngine derive from BuildManagerViewEngine which in turn implements IViewEngine. The problem with that is I have to implement methods CreatePartialView() and CreateView() but how would I know what to return (WebForms/Razor?) using generics?

  Here is the problem, I use a Cisco/Linksys AE1200 wireless network adapter to connect my desktop to a public wifi internet connection. I use ndiswrapper to use the windows driver and it had been working fine for me untill I ran the update manager overnight a few days ago.
