  • Is it possible to use AWS as a web host?

    - by Matrym
    Is it possible to load / host an entire website using AWS? Or is it only a service that can load specific pieces of a website - such as images, etc. Obviously, I'd want to use my own domain. If you can use it, are there any limitations? Here's the AWS link, for context: http://aws.amazon.com/s3/

    - by Joseph Silvashy
    Someone posted something similar but it didn't really solve the problem. I want to move all my static files (images, javascript, css) to an Amazon S3 bucket when I deploy my app, as well as rewrite those paths in my app, is there a simple way to accomplish this? or am I in for a huge amount of work here?

    What is the significance of new cloud platforms and databases like Microsoft Azure and Amazon EC2? Is it a replacement for enterprise application platforms like .net or JEE in a cloud environment? Is it neccessary to use these or other cloud specific platforms, or can we implement .net or JEE on a cloud based environment?

  • The future of cloud computing? [closed]

    - by Vimvq1987
    As far as I know, cloud computing is growing rapidly. Amazon EC2, Google App Engine, Microsoft Windows Azure...But I can't imagine how cloud computing will change the world. Will cloud computing will play the main role in software industry? Will our data be stored at one place and then can be accessed from any where? Shall we need powerful PCs no more because everything will be processed at "cloud"? Thank you so much

  • How fast are EC/2 nodes between each other?

    - by tesmar
    Hi, I am looking to setup Amazon EC/2 nodes on rails with Riak. I am looking to be able to sync the riak DBs and if the cluster gets a query, to be able to tell where the data lies and retrieve it quickly. In your opinion(s), is EC/2 fast enough between nodes to query a Riak DB, return the results, and get them back to the client in a timely manner? I am new to all of this, so please be kind :)

  • vim plugin to show current Perl subroutine

    - by Andrew
    I'm trying to make a vim plugin that will split the window on load and simulate a info bar at the top of my terminal. I've got it sorta working but I think I've either reached limits of my knowledge of vim syntax or there's a logic problem in my code. The desired effect would be to do a reverse search for any declaration of a Perl subroutine form my current location in the active buffer and display the line in the top buffer. I'm also trying to make it skip that buffer when I switch buffers with <C-R>. My attempt at that so far can be seen in the mess of nested if statements. Anyway, here's the code. I would greatly appreciate feedback from anyone. • IE browser caching and the jQuery Form Plugin

    - by Harfleur
    Like so many lost souls before me, I'm floundering in the snake pit that is Ajax form submission and IE browser caching. I'm trying to write a simple script using the jQuery Form Plugin to Ajaxify Wordpress comments. It's working fine in Firefox, Chrome, Safari, et. al., but in IE, the response text is cached with the result that Ajax is pulling in the wrong comment. jQuery(this).ajaxSubmit({ success: function(data) { var response = $("<ol>"+data+"</ol>"); response.find('.commentlist li:last').hide().appendTo(jQuery('.commentlist')).slideDown('slow'); } }); ajaxSubmit sends the comment to wp-comments-post.php, which inelegantly spits back the entire page as a response. So, despite the fact that it's ugly as toads, I'm sticking the response text in a variable, using :last to isolate the most recent comment, and sliding it down in its place. IE, however, is returning the cached version of the page, which doesn't include the new comment. So ".commentlist li:last" selects the previous comment, a duplicate of which then uselessly slides down beneath the original. I've tried setting "cache: false" in the ajaxSubmit options, but it has no effect. I've tried setting a url option and tacking on a random number or timestamp, but it winds up being attached to the POST that submits the comment to the server rather than the GET that returns the response, and so has no effect. I'm not sure what else to try. Everything works fine in IE if I turn off browser caching, but that's obviously not something I can expect anyone viewing the page to do. Any help will be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance! EDIT WITH A PROGRESS REPORT: A couple of people have suggested using PHP headers to prevent caching, and this does indeed work. The trouble is that wp-comments-post is spitting back the entire page when a new comment is submitted, and the only way I can see to add headers is to put them in the Wordpress post template, which disables caching on all posts at all times--not quite the behavior I'm looking for. Is there a way to set a php conditional--"if is_ajax" or something like that--that would keep the headers from being applied during regular pageloads, but plug them in if the page was called by an Ajax GET?

  • jQuery Form plugin - no data from file upload?

    - by pojo
    I've been struggling a bit with the jQuery Form plugin. I want to create a file upload form that posts the data (JSON, from the chosen file) into a REST service exposed by a servlet. The URL for the POST is calculated from what the user chooses in a SELECT dropdown. When the upload is complete, I want to notify the user immediately, AJAX-style. The problem is that the POST header has a Content-Length of 0 and contains no data. I would appreciate any help! <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery-1.4.2.min.js">/* ppp */</script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery.form.js">/* ppp */</script> <script type="text/javascript"> function cb_beforesubmit (arr, $form, options) { // This should override the form's action attribute options.url = "/rest/services/" + $('#selectedaction')[0].value; return true; } function cb_success (rt, st, xhr, wf) { $('#response').html(rt + '<br>' + st + '<br>' + xhr); } $(document).ready(function () { var options = { beforeSubmit: cb_beforesubmit, success: cb_success, dataType: 'json', contentType: 'application/json', method: 'POST', }; $('#myform').ajaxForm(options); $.getJSON('/rest/services', function (data, ts) { for (var property in data) { if (typeof property == 'string') { $('#selectedaction').append('<option>' + property + '</option>'); } } }); }); </script> </head> <body> <form id="myform" action="/rest/services/foo1" method="POST" enctype="multipart/form-data"> <!-- The form does not seem to submit at all if I don't set action to a default value? !--> <select id="selectedaction"> <script type="text/javascript"> </script> </select> <input type="file" value="Choose"/> <input type="submit" value="Submit" /> </form> <div id="response"> </div> </body> </html>

  • Supporting multiple instances of a plugin DLL with global data

    - by Bruno De Fraine
    Context: I converted a legacy standalone engine into a plugin component for a composition tool. Technically, this means that I compiled the engine code base to a C DLL which I invoke from a .NET wrapper using P/Invoke; the wrapper implements an interface defined by the composition tool. This works quite well, but now I receive the request to load multiple instances of the engine, for different projects. Since the engine keeps the project data in a set of global variables, and since the DLL with the engine code base is loaded only once, loading multiple projects means that the project data is overwritten. I can see a number of solutions, but they all have some disadvantages: You can create multiple DLLs with the same code, which are seen as different DLLs by Windows, so their code is not shared. Probably this already works if you have multiple copies of the engine DLL with different names. However, the engine is invoked from the wrapper using DllImport attributes and I think the name of the engine DLL needs to be known when compiling the wrapper. Obviously, if I have to compile different versions of the wrapper for each project, this is quite cumbersome. The engine could run as a separate process. This means that the wrapper would launch a separate process for the engine when it loads a project, and it would use some form of IPC to communicate with this process. While this is a relatively clean solution, it requires some effort to get working, I don't now which IPC technology would be best to set-up this kind of construction. There may also be a significant overhead of the communication: the engine needs to frequently exchange arrays of floating-point numbers. The engine could be adapted to support multiple projects. This means that the global variables should be put into a project structure, and every reference to the globals should be converted to a corresponding reference that is relative to a particular project. There are about 20-30 global variables, but as you can imagine, these global variables are referenced from all over the code base, so this conversion would need to be done in some automatic manner. A related problem is that you should be able to reference the "current" project structure in all places, but passing this along as an extra argument in each and every function signature is also cumbersome. Does there exist a technique (in C) to consider the current call stack and find the nearest enclosing instance of a relevant data value there? Can the stackoverflow community give some advice on these (or other) solutions?

  • jQuery Validation Plugin: Packer undefined error?

    - by Rosarch
    I'm using the jQuery validation plugin from bassistance.de. It works fine. From <head>: <script type="text/javascript" src="/static/JQuery.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="/static/js-lib/jquery.validate.pack.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="/static/js-lib/jquery.validate.additional-methods.js"></script> At first, this was the only validation code I had, and it worked: $("form").validate(); $("#form-username").rules("add", { required: true, email: true, }); It was validating this HTML: <form id="form-username-form" action="api/user_of_email" method="get"> <p> <label for="form-username">Email:</label> <input type="text" name="email" id="form-username" /> <input type="submit" value="Submit" id="form-submit" /> </p> </form> Great, everything works. But then I add this JS: $("#form-choose-options input[type='text']").rules("add", { number: true, }); to validate this markup: <form id="form-choose-options" action="api/set_options" method="get"> <p> <label for="form-min-credits">Min credits per term:</label><input type="text" name="min_credits" id="form-min-credits" /> <br /> <label for="form-optimal-credits">Optimal credits per term:</label><input type="text" name="optimal_credits" id="form-optimal-credits" /> <br /> <label for="form-max-credits">Max credits per term:</label><input type="text" name="max_credits" id="form-max-credits" /> <br /> <label for="form-low-GPA">Lowest acceptable GPA:</label><input type="text" name="low_GPA" id="form-low-GPA" /> <br /> <label for="form-high-GPA">Highest realistic GPA:</label><input type="text" name="high_GPA" id="form-high-GPA" /> <br /> <input type="hidden" class="user-pk" name="pk"/> <input type="submit" value="Submit" /> </p> </form> This causes a javascript error on document load: $.data(f.form, "validator") is undefined The error is from the packer function. What am I doing wrong?

  • How to generate the EC2 cerificate

    - by user192048
    While setting up the EC2 access, it seems I need two files, the private key and ec2 certificate. $ export EC2_PRIVATE_KEY=~/.ec2/pk-HKZYKTAIG2ECMXYIBH3HXV4ZBZQ55CLO.pem $ export EC2_CERT=~/.ec2/cert-HKZYKTAIG2ECMXYIBH3HXV4ZBZQ55CLO.pem However, I did not find anywhere I could download or create the key. from the documentation: The command line tools need access to the private key and X.509 certificate you generated after signing up for the Amazon EC2 service. I probably missed that, Is it possible to generate it again

  • jQuery validation plugin addMethod firing incorrectly

    - by LoganEtherton
    I must be missing something obvious, but everything that I've tried for this is leaving me empty handed, so I'm a bit puzzled. I'm attempting to use the jQuery validation plugin with custom validation methods, but it seems to be hit or miss. It seems that I am able to successfully add rules to a certain extent, but some of the methods are not applied. Or the specified method is not applied, and the incorrect method is instead applied. So, for example, this works without a hitch: $.validator.addMethod("emailValidation", function(value, element) { return /^((([a-z]|\d|[!#\$%&'\*\+\-\/=\?\^_`{\|}~]|[\u00A0-\uD7FF\uF900-\uFDCF\uFDF0-\uFFEF])+(\.([a-z]|\d|[!#\$%&'\*\+\-\/=\?\^_`{\|}~]|[\u00A0-\uD7FF\uF900-\uFDCF\uFDF0-\uFFEF])+)*)|((\x22)((((\x20|\x09)*(\x0d\x0a))?(\x20|\x09)+)?(([\x01-\x08\x0b\x0c\x0e-\x1f\x7f]|\x21|[\x23-\x5b]|[\x5d-\x7e]|[\u00A0-\uD7FF\uF900-\uFDCF\uFDF0-\uFFEF])|(\\([\x01-\x09\x0b\x0c\x0d-\x7f]|[\u00A0-\uD7FF\uF900-\uFDCF\uFDF0-\uFFEF]))))*(((\x20|\x09)*(\x0d\x0a))?(\x20|\x09)+)?(\x22)))@((([a-z]|\d|[\u00A0-\uD7FF\uF900-\uFDCF\uFDF0-\uFFEF])|(([a-z]|\d|[\u00A0-\uD7FF\uF900-\uFDCF\uFDF0-\uFFEF])([a-z]|\d|-|\.|_|~|[\u00A0-\uD7FF\uF900-\uFDCF\uFDF0-\uFFEF])*([a-z]|\d|[\u00A0-\uD7FF\uF900-\uFDCF\uFDF0-\uFFEF])))\.)+(([a-z]|[\u00A0-\uD7FF\uF900-\uFDCF\uFDF0-\uFFEF])|(([a-z]|[\u00A0-\uD7FF\uF900-\uFDCF\uFDF0-\uFFEF])([a-z]|\d|-|\.|_|~|[\u00A0-\uD7FF\uF900-\uFDCF\uFDF0-\uFFEF])*([a-z]|[\u00A0-\uD7FF\uF900-\uFDCF\uFDF0-\uFFEF])))\.?$/.test(value); }, "Please enter a valid email address." ); $.validator.addMethod("password", function(value, element) { return /[^\s]{6,25}/.test(value); }, "Please enter a password between 6 and 25 characters long." ); ... $(function(){ $("#registrationForm").validate({ rules: { email: { required: true, emailValidation: true }, password: { required: true, password: true }, } }); }); Both the password validation and email validation work. But then I add, in the same exact manner, a validation test for names. So, right below where the password method ends, I add: $.validator.addMethod("name", function(value, element) { return /[^\s]{6,25}/.test(value); }, "Please enter a valid name." ); Which turns the validate call into: $(function(){ $("#registrationForm").validate({ rules: { email: { required: true, emailValidation: true }, password: { required: true, password: true }, studentFirstName: { name: true } } }); }); And suddenly, everything is only validating for names. Both the email and password fields now validate using the name method, as does the name field. This is confusing! I've added console.log calls to all methods, and indeed, it's not that one is being called after the other - the only one being called is name. I've checked and double checked that the element selection is good. I've checked that everything is groovy with the methods themselves. Any ideas?

  • jQuery UI Tabs Plugin Broke

    We are using the jquery ui tabs arrow plugin from this fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/dECtZ/282/, but like many plugins, it breaks with the latest version of jQuery. We were able to get the csscur to work, but still get the following error in the jquery core (line 353): Uncaught TypeError: Cannot assign to read only property 'length' of function (e,t){if(!this._createWidget)return new o(e,t);arguments.length&&this._createWidget(e,t)} Code is as follows: (function($, undefined) { if (!$.xui) { $.xui = {}; } var tabs = $.extend({}, $.ui.tabs.prototype), _super = { _create: tabs._create, _destroy: tabs._destroy, _update: tabs._update }; $.xui.tabs = $.extend(tabs, { options: $.extend({}, tabs.options, { scrollable: false, changeOnScroll: false, closable: false, resizable: false, resizeHandles: "e,s,se" }), _create: function() { var self = this, o = self.options; _super._create.apply(self); if (o.scrollable) { self.element.addClass("ui-tabs-scrollable"); var scrollContainer = $('<div class="ui-tabs-scroll-container"></div>').prependTo(this.element); self.header = $('<div class="ui-tabs-nav-scrollable ui-widget-header ui-corner-all"></div>').prependTo(scrollContainer); var nav = self.element.find(".ui-tabs-nav:first").removeClass("ui-widget-header ui-corner-all").appendTo(this.header); var arrowsNav = $('<ol class="ui-helper-reset ui-helper-clearfix ui-tabs-nav-arrows"></ol>').prependTo(self.element); var navPrev = $('<li class="ui-tabs-arrow-previous ui-state-default ui-corner-bl ui-corner-tl" title="Previous"><a href="#"><span class="ui-icon ui-icon-carat-1-w">Previous tab</span></a></li>').prependTo(arrowsNav).hide(), navNext = $('<li class="ui-tabs-arrow-next ui-state-default ui-corner-tr ui-corner-br" title="Next"><a href="#"><span class="ui-icon ui-icon-carat-1-e">Next tab</span></a></li>').appendTo(arrowsNav).hide(); var scrollTo = function(to, delay) { var navWidth = 0, arrowWidth = navPrev.outerWidth(), marginLeft = -(parseInt(nav.css("marginLeft"), 10)), hwidth = self.header.width(), newMargin = 0; nav.find("li").each(function() { navWidth += $(this).outerWidth(true); }); if (to instanceof $.Event) { } else { newMargin = marginLeft+to; if (newMargin > (navWidth-hwidth)) { newMargin = (navWidth-hwidth); } else if (newMargin < 0) { newMargin = 0; } nav.stop(true).animate({ marginLeft: -(newMargin) }, delay, function(){ $(window).trigger("resize.tabs"); }); } } var holdTimer = false; navPrev.add(navNext).bind({ "click": function(e) { var isNext = this === navNext[0]; e.preventDefault(); if (o.changeOnScroll) { self.select(self.options.selected + (isNext ?     I have been breaking my head against this for too much time now. I'm trying to get maven + jetty + jotm to play nice but it looks like its too much to ask for :( Below is my jetty.xml:- <?xml version="1.0"?> <!DOCTYPE Configure PUBLIC "-//Jetty//Configure//EN" "http://www.eclipse.org/jetty/configure.dtd"> <Configure id="Server" class="org.mortbay.jetty.Server"> <New id="jotm" class="org.objectweb.jotm.Jotm"> <Arg type="boolean">true</Arg> <Arg type="boolean">false</Arg> <Call id="tm" name="getTransactionManager" /> <Call id="ut" name="getUserTransaction" /> </New> <New class="org.mortbay.jetty.plus.naming.Resource"> <Arg /> <Arg>javax.transaction.TransactionManager</Arg> <Arg><Ref id="ut" /></Arg> </New> <New id="tx" class="org.mortbay.jetty.plus.naming.Transaction"> <Arg><Ref id="ut" /></Arg> </New> <New class="org.mortbay.jetty.plus.naming.Resource"> <Arg>myxadatasource</Arg> <Arg> <New id="myxadatasourceA" class="org.enhydra.jdbc.standard.StandardXADataSource"> <Set name="DriverName">org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver</Set> <Set name="Url">jdbc:derby:protodb;create=true</Set> <Set name="User"></Set> <Set name="Password"></Set> <Set name="transactionManager"> <Ref id="tm" /> </Set> </New> </Arg> </New> <New id="protodb" class="org.mortbay.jetty.plus.naming.Resource"> <Arg>jdbc/protodb</Arg> <Arg> <New class="org.enhydra.jdbc.pool.StandardXAPoolDataSource"> <Arg> <Ref id="myxadatasourceA" /> </Arg> <Set name="DataSourceName">myxadatasource</Set> </New> </Arg> </New> And this is the maven plugin configuration:- <plugin> <groupId>org.mortbay.jetty</groupId> <artifactId>maven-jetty-plugin</artifactId> <configuration> <scanIntervalSeconds>10</scanIntervalSeconds> <stopKey>ps</stopKey> <stopPort>7777</stopPort> <webAppConfig> <contextPath>/ps</contextPath> </webAppConfig> <connectors> <connector implementation="org.mortbay.jetty.nio.SelectChannelConnector"> <port>7070</port> <maxIdleTime>60000</maxIdleTime> </connector> </connectors> <jettyConfig>src/main/webapp/WEB-INF/jetty.xml</jettyConfig> </configuration> <executions> <execution> <id>start-jetty</id> <phase>pre-integration-test</phase> <goals> <goal>run</goal> </goals> <configuration> <scanIntervalSeconds>0</scanIntervalSeconds> <daemon>true</daemon> </configuration> </execution> <execution> <id>stop-jetty</id> <phase>post-integration-test</phase> <goals> <goal>stop</goal> </goals> </execution> </executions> <dependencies> <dependency> <groupId>org.apache.derby</groupId> <artifactId>derby</artifactId> <version>10.6.1.0</version> </dependency> <dependency> <groupId>jotm</groupId> <artifactId>jotm</artifactId> <version>2.0.10</version> <exclusions> <exclusion> <groupId>javax.resource</groupId> <artifactId>connector</artifactId> </exclusion> </exclusions> </dependency> <dependency> <groupId>com.experlog</groupId> <artifactId>xapool</artifactId> <version>1.5.0</version> </dependency> <dependency> <groupId>javax.resource</groupId> <artifactId>connector-api</artifactId> <version>1.5</version> </dependency> <dependency> <groupId>javax.transaction</groupId> <artifactId>jta</artifactId> <version>1.0.1B</version> </dependency> <!-- <dependency> <groupId>javax.jts</groupId> <artifactId>jts</artifactId> <version>1.0</version> </dependency> --> </dependencies> </plugin> I am using maven-jetty-plugin-6.1.24 cause I couldn't get the later one's to work either.
