    Hi, I'm pretty new to android, and just finished setup my environment and reading some tutorials. Then I got sdk samples from the web. Okay, what I wanna ask you is that is there a way to start a sample as a project in the Eclipse? I mean like clicking a project file in c# or a solution file. Here is my folder which I unzipped the code, \android-sdk-windows\samples\android-8\NotePad There are three folders and one file in the folder, \res, \src, \tests, and AndroidManifest.xml Or, do I need to make a new android project and import (or add files? maybe) them?     Hi, I'm developing an application that will most likely be preinstalled on devices. It will be also available on Market. Is there a way to update those instances that are not downloaded through Market, since Market won't notify users about an update. I was thinking about, as suggested here, trying to contact my site periodically, and when update is available, download it. I'm wondering if there is a way to do this update automatically, so that user doesn't have to do anything (like running the package manually). Or, when my site shows update is available, to offer users an update through Market, even though it's not installed through Market. Thanks!

    Hi, I want to make an android application that will intimate the users about the approaching railway stations in INDIA. For this I will use GPS (Location Manager etc) on Android. So far, I have not developed the applications using GPS, so I have little insight on the capabilities of Android API for this. I know, through the android API I can know the current location of the users through GPS and google API but can I know the location of nearby railway stations from Google API for India? Or can I know the latitude and longitude of all the Railway Stations so that I can pre-feed that in the applciation? Please help me in finding out the way.

    I am a freshman in college which has been Java programming for over a year. I haven taken a couple of programming courses, both of which were with Java. And I have done web development for several years. So overall, I would't say that I am a complete beginner in programming. Recently, I have developed a strong interest in developing for Android. I read that Android development was with Java and I thought it would making development easier for me. But I was very wrong. Based on reviews from Amazon, I have begun reading "Professional Android Application Development by Meier but everything is going over my head. The Busy Coder's Guide to Android Development seems a bit more for my level but I still want everybody else's opinion. The Google stuff isn't very helpful to me at my level and neither are the tutorials on anddev and such. Any advice for a complete beginner on how to get started? Thanks.

    I'm getting crazy right now. I just installed the latest android adt bundle from http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html. It's version v21.0.0. Now I wanted to test my tablet app (designed for 10.1" xlarge mdpi) in the emulator, but I cannot get any software buttons for home/back/... Here's my device configuration. This config is afterwards assigned to the avd. http://i.stack.imgur.com/Q7xvP.png Hardware-buttons don't work as well (you cannot set hardware buttons in a tablet-like emulator). The target api is level 15 (android 4.0.3). I searched stackoverflow, but didn't find any help concerning the latest version of android.     I have written a number of applications for blackberry and am just starting in Android. It seems to me that android has a lot more built in functions. I am starting by recreating some of my BB apps on Android and on one I take a few xml sites and parse them out. On blackberry I implemented this by creating a class that extended a thread. I would construct a new instance of this class with the parameters of my http request and it would call a function back in my main class, sending it the results. I am tempted to reuse my code, but am curious if android has something better built in. I have been looking at the handler class as well as possible using a service. Bascially, I would like to start a new thread that will return a document of a specific url. Thanks!

  • Cannot find "IIS APPPOOL\{application pool name}" user account in Windows Server 2008

    Normally when setting up IIS 7, I'm used to allowing permissions to user IIS APPPOOL\{application pool name} on the root folder of my web application(s). I also give permissions to IUSR (or the IIS_IUSRS user group. (Note, in Windows Server 2008, I found that IUSR isn't in that group by default, so I added it). In Windows Server 2008, I cannot find user IIS APPPOOL\{application pool name} under Security under the Windows Folder Properties. I'm using Windows Authentication in ASP.NET. I'm receiving a 401.1 on the page in Internet Explorer 8 after getting the authentication prompt. Mozilla Firefox also gave me a Windows authentication prompt, and got me into the site fine. Same with Google Chrome. How can I solve this one? HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied.   • getView only shows Flagged Backgrounds for drawn Views, It does not show Flagged Background when scroll to view more items on list

    I am trying to create a listview that receives a flagged list of items to indicate a status to the user. I have been able to create the flag display by using a yellow background (see image at bottom). In Theory, the flagged list can have many flagged items in it. However in my app, only the first three flagged backgrounds are shown. I believe this is because they are initially drawn to the screen. The Flagged background that are not drawn initially to the screen do not show. I'd like to know how to get the remaining flags to show in the list. ListView Recycling: The backgrounds in the listView are being recycled in getView(). This recycling goes from position 0 to position 9. I have flags that need to match at positions 13, 14 and so on. Those positions are not being displayed. listView.getCheckedItemPositions() for multiple selections: This method will not work in my case because the user will not selected the flags. The flags are coming from the server. setNotifyOnChange() and/or public virtual void SetNotifyOnChange (bool notifyOnChange): I'm not adding new data to the list, so I don't see how this method would work for my program. Does this method communicate to getview when it is recycling data?     We are currently deploying a WPF 4 app via click once and there is a scenario when the installation fails. If the user does not have .Net 4.0 Full install and attempts to install our app the framework installs fine but the app fails to install. If we re-run the installation again the app installs fine.     I know there are a lot of these topics around but none seem to help in my case, nor describe it exactly. The best similar one is aapt not found under the right path. My problem is that I can be using Eclipse for a whole evening programming, compiling and using my device, and then suddenly I get "error executing aapt" for my current project and ofcourse R.java isn't (properly) generated anymore. I then restart Eclipse and everything goes away. I'm seeing this once a day on average however. I've recently switched to amd64 and installed the latest Android-2.3 SDK and matching tools. I know that there is now a platform-tools folder that has an aapt version that should work SDK version independently. At first I had added this directory to my PATH, as instructed on the SDK website. I've also tried not adding it to my path and making a link platforms/android-9/tools so that every SDK version might use it's own old copy. Needless to say, platform-tools/aapt is there and has the right permissions, and I have been able to execute it on the command-line at any time. When I do write a faulty xml file or sorts, and appropriately get an error, I see an extra line that says "aapt: /lib32/libz.so.1: no version information available". I'm running a recent Gentoo linux system. I have everything installed to support x86 on amd64, but have re-emerged emul-linux-x86-baselibs and zlib just to be sure. The problem persists. I do see some pages that spell horror over some zlib bugs, but I'm not sure if that's related. I realize I'm not on the reference Ubuntu platform, but surely the difference cannot be that great? It might very well be a bug in aapt or the tools itself. Why would it suddenly stop working? I also experience that the ids in R.java were incorrect, namely that simple findViewById() code would give ClassCastExceptions because of mixed ids the one time, and then work perfectly without any changes bu only a "clean project", in the aftermath of a failing aapt. When I recently was trying to export a signed apk, I ran into another error message (full details from the Eclipse error view) regarding aapt I hadn't seen before. Note here too, that I can just restart Eclipse and can export apks again without problems, at least for a little while. I'm starting to think it is related to lack of memory on my system. The message "onvoldoende geheugen beschikbaar" means "insufficient memory available". I have also been seeing insufficient memory errors in DDMS when I'm dumping HPROF files.   • Where should I store my application data?

    I have an application that needs to store data. Currently, I am using the built-in Application Settings to do it, but it only gives me two choices: application and user scopes. Ideally, I want a "local" scope that allows the application to run under another user and still find its data rather than recreate it for that user. The application scope can do this, but it's read only. The application data will be changed by the user. It's OK if only the administrator is allowed to make changes to the data. As you probably can guess, I have an administration tool that allows the user to change the data and windows service runner that reads the data and does something with it. It would be great if the windows service runner access the data created by the administration tool.
