  • Two tor clients

    I have been experimenting with the thought of running two Tor clients at once on my machine. So I decided to try it and modified the source a bit to let me run two clients at once (of course with separate data dirs). But they both get the same exit node, and if I try to switch exit node on one of them via its control port, they both get switched. I have been experimenting with this some more, and Tor always seem to get the same IP, even if I run several separate clients (on the same machine) at once. Is this the expected behavior?

  • PHP extension causes symbol lookup error

    Dear, I installed - or better tried to - the NMCryptGate Extension for PHP on my Debian 5.0.8 server. I did this by compiling the sources which came up with no error message. Calling phpinfo() I can see the extension as enabled. BUT, whenever I try calling a method from this extension I get an error logged to the apache error log: /usr/sbin/apache2: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/php5/20060613+lfs/nmcryptgate.so: undefined symbol: nmlistalloc What is missing? I got two packages from the software company: the php module sources and some files which should - according to their path inside the tar - go to /usr/local/bin|doc|include|lib. I moved them there without any effect. I guess I just have to move the files to the correct location or change the libdir inside the config files but meanwhile I'm totally confused by the two packages: do I need both, which config rules what, do I have to use the libdir variable?   • All browsers refusing to load a specific image on a webpage?

    Out of nowhere today, all 3 of my browsers (FF/Chrome/IE, OS = Win7 x64) are refusing to load the homepage of interfacelift.com correctly. It works fine on other PC's in the house (on the same network), so it is definitely related to this one PC. The browser won't load the main image on the page correctly (even though the source code looks good), however if I direct the browser to the exact location of that image, then it displays fine. So obviously I can get the HTML index (which locates the resource) and I can get to the resource. So why heck isn't it displaying properly on the index page? It's almost as if the HTML rendering engine has gone bad, on all 3 browsers at once. I've browsed to a bunch of other sites (including sites very heavy on JS, with HTML much more complex than the one in question here) and am seeing nothing funny. Only thing wonky I've done with my PC in the past several hours was replacing the system file Magnifier.exe with a copy of cmd.exe while playing around with some of the ideas mentioned in this guide. However, I've since then restored the files to their previous state, and I don't know how Magnifier would be related to this even if I hadn't restored it. Any ideas? I'm stumped! EDIT: Here is what the broken page looks like in Chrome. And here is the image loaded correctly by itself.

  • "Unable to initialize module" fileinfo php-pecl-Fileinfo.x86_64

    I have a brand new server server that I am trying to get setup up. This is a 64 bit machine that I can not install "fileinfo" or "memcache". I have uninstalled these and reinstalled them using yum and pecl with no luck. Yum install fine "no error" but then get error when running php. pecl from what I can tell is only installing 32bit. Does not put anything in the lib64 directory.   • Browser history, by window

    I use Chrome --but can switch to another browser if the feature I am about to describe is available. Browsing history, AFAIK in Chrome is sorted exclusively chronologically. Very often however, I will be working on a particular task on my laptop and have multiple (read: a lot) of tabs open in a single Chrome window for that task. Before finishing that task, I may need to work on something else --so I will open another window and minimize the other one, and start researching an entirely different issue. Over the course of a day, I may end up with 10-15 windows with many tabs each. This raises two issues: (a) memory usage and (b) quickly switching between the most relevant two or three windows. I solve these two problems like any regular guy probably would --closing windows. I want to be able to reopen specific windows that I have closed, such that the tabs that were open in that window at the time the window was closed will reopen. Ideally, closed windows will be sorted by the time they were closed and identified by the tabs that were open (even more ideally, I would be able to name these windows (contemporaneously or in the history menu)). Now that I describe this, what I am asking is: does any browser offer the ability to "save and close" windows? (This is distinct from an option to auto-restore tabs upon reopening the browser) Thank you.

  • phpize: m4 error just in one extension

    On Linux, I installed php 5.3.8 from source. Using phpize for installing an extension works fine but not on one specific extension (mysqlnd). # cd /opt/php/5.3.8/ext/pdo && /opt/php/5.3.8/bin/phpize ... this runs ok # cd /opt/php/5.3.8/ext/mysqlnd && /opt/php/5.3.8/bin/phpize Cannot find config.m4. Make sure that you run '/opt/php/5.3.8/bin/phpize' in the top level source directory of the module` As you can see error can not be that I am not on top level source directory since I am. I tried to call phpize from ext folder - did not work either! For info I have m4 installed Any idea? Thanks :)

  • vimperator copy/pasting

    I'm trying out vimperator, I mainly wanted it for the hjkl scrolling, I like it's "hint" system for following links, these two features are really all I need; I think. I don't mind the other features, it just sometimes get in my way. The thing that annoys me the most is copy/pasting. I'm used to ctrl-c/ctrl-v, I don't mind using another shortcut, but .. :help yank indicates that copying selected text is done with Y, but the only method mentioned for pasting is the middle mouse button! This is so ridiculously against the spirit of vim! How can I paste in vimperator without using the mouse?

    Is allowing dynamic extension loading dangerous for some reason? I ask because I need it to include the pecl oauth.so extension to make the Google Adwords PHP SDK work using dl(). I've tried all other alternatives but just can't get it to work: http://php.net/manual/en/function.dl.php enable_dl is set to off by default inside my php.ini, I enabled it, restarted apache and it works. If it's safe to use why is it disabled by default? I'm the only user with access to the server and it will be hosting a web application. Any advice would be helpful!

    My Apache process segfaults whenever I call curl_exec() from PHP with an "https://" URL. If I use http instead of https as the URL transport, it works perfectly, so I know curl and the other curl options are correct. I can use curl from the command-line on that server using the https version of the URL and it works perfectly, so I know the remote server is responding correctly, the cert isn't expired, etc..   • persistant data in tor browser bundle?

    What sort of persistent data is generated by bundled Tor? I recently did an experiment using the Tor Browser Bundle for GNU-Linux. I created two directories, A and B, and placed an identical copy of Tor in each one. Next I placed a simple python script in directory A that both launched the vidalia package and, when exiting the network, deleted the entire contents of A with the exception of itself and rebuilt the bundle from the original archive. What surprises me is that after about ten hours of browsing each, A and B now show a distinct difference in startup time. Also curious is that I get a message in the log of B that never shows up in A: new control connection open which is a notice level advisory. This has nothing to do with what I was originally testing but now I'm interested in what exactly is going on. By the way I do not have to rely on Tor for my personal safety as many are forced to do so even if you just have a hunch I'd be interested in hearing it.

    I leave Adblock turned on for all sites by default. I allow ads on some sites. You can do this by adding an exception for a site that is allowed to show ads. This puts a site in the white list. However, I do not know how to allow most ads on a page, but block a specific ad. I am not even sure Adblock will do this. I believe it is all or none. If a site is in the white list, it appears that all other rules are ignored. Is there a way to allow most ads on a website, but still block specific ads?

    I need to start reading The TCP/IP Guide. I have to admit that compared to other informative guides/tutorials/articles out there, this guide isn't so cluttered. However, I still find it a little bit hard to read, especially when reading for several hours. I don't know if it's the font, the contrast or the spacing, but this is why I've always preferred learning from books rather than from the internet. What can I do to make this guide more readable?
