• Shutdown after waking up

  This issue appeard after installing last week's updates from Update Manager. When waking up after suspend, the OS starts loading and it halts unexpectedly, before the load is complete. I don't get to see login screen. This worked well last week, before installing updates. Then I need to remove laptop's battery, wait a while, then plug it and start again (otherwise power button won't work). Is anybody else experiencing this behavior? I have an HP DV7 with an intel core i7.

• Windows 7 professional won't boot after installing ubuntu 11.10 alongside

  I can't boot into windows 7 professional after installing ubuntu 11.10 alongside windows as a dual boot. Windows starts to boot but then it stops during start up and "crashes". I do not have an installation or repair disc and windows is not registered as I built the computer in a class. Please help anybody who is familiar with ubuntu. Optimally I would like to just uninstall ubuntu altogether as GRUB scares me a little and Ubuntu isn't as good as windows 7 and "Bleeped" stuff up. I tried google and nothing that great came up and also I can't find a phone # to contact ubuntu/linux. :-( Specs: OS: Windows 7 professional x64, Ubuntu unity 11.10; CPU: Intel Celeron 2.6 GHz; 2 GB of RAM; Built in september or october 2011. Desktop Homebuilt PC.

• ubuntu freezes daily

  I have been using ubuntu daily for about 2 weeks now. I really like it but I have noticed that it freezes daily when I have things like chromium and firefox open or when I start watching videos. I realize these might be memory intensive apps/actions but I doubt that with my comps specs they would cause it to freeze. When I installed ubuntu, I remember that it warned me about installing it in a ext2 partition and not in a ext4 one. Could that be the issue? and is there a way to fix it without reinstalling? edit: specs are, 1.9gb ram & Intel® Core™2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz × 2; ubuntu 12.04x64

• Ubuntu won't boot on windows starter

  I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS yesterday from a usb, but it only boots into Windows unless the usb is in, then it boots into the Ubuntu loader where I can choose Ubuntu vs. Windows. What's the problem? I run windows starter on a netbook with 1 gb ram and intel atom processor. I tried to install boot-repair but it won't work either. I follow the instructions for the Terminal and it seems to go right until I try launching it - then it says that it does not know the command boot-repair. I really like Ubuntu, it lets this netbook run smoothly and better than ever before but I don't think I want to boot from a usb every time.

• No Mouse Pointer - ubuntu 13.10

  just installed 13.10 on my HP Envy M6 laptop and have no mouse pointer. My USB mouse does not work and neither does the track pad. When I booted from a USB key everything worked OK but once installed it seems to have broken the mouse. Unlike other posts, there is no flicker, it simply doesn't work at all. My laptop is an i5 with 6gb and dual Intel and AMD radeon graphics. Any help would be gratefully received as I really can't stand Windows 8 any longer. Thanks.

• Video playing is slow on 12.04

  I started using Ubuntu a very short time ago, and it was working perfectly! I upgraded to 12.04 yesterday, and today I realize that everything is running slow. For example, video streaming online, from sites such as Youtube is not working correctly, audio and video breaks constantly. I have a 64 bit system, with a Intel® Core™2 Duo, 2.10GHz × 2 . I don't know what more to add. I tried free -m on the terminal, it returned that I had only 524MB free from 3858MB. All that i have running at this point is Mozilla Firefox.

  When I installed Ubuntu Server 12.04, I selected the ethernet adapter because I will use that most often; however, I would like to use wifi sometimes as well.   Linux OS (Ubuntu 12.10) starts up (user login, my personal picture of a beautiful Norwegian fjord-landscape fills the background), but the main menu on the left side, and the pictograms (battery state etc.) at the upper right corner of the screen, do not show up. This occurred yesterday quite suddenly after six or seven weeks working with Ubuntu 12.10. Then I started in recovery mode and performed a file system check (fsck) but that takes hours and finally a message ¨Sorry Ubuntu has experienced an internal error etc¨ appeared. How can I determine what has gone wrong and eventually, how can I solve it? So that I can work again using Ubuntu 12.10 (on a dual-boot system, Intel i7, ASUS P8P67 motherboard).

• My ubuntu 11.10 gets weird lately

  I have quite a lot problems lately(about 2 weeks) running Ubuntu 11.10. First, flash playback in chrome hangs and lags all the time. While in Firefox is better, but still lags. Playing video files in the preinstalled Movie Player lags too. Second, I've turned automatic on and in some occasions, after I switched the computer on and successfully loaded the desktop, however, in just a minute or so, the screen just got black out and directed me back to the login page. I thinks there are bugs, please tell me how to correct those. Sysinfo: CPU: i5-2400 MB: GA H61M D2P B3 (no video card) Drive: Intel 320 40GB Thanks. p.s. should I upgrade to 12.04??

  Computer specs Intel E8200 Dual Core MSI G45M MB Ultra U12-40739 PCI Expansion Card - 2 SATA Internal Ports, 1.5Gbps, RAID 0, 1, JBOD 6 GB DDR2 Q1. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Amahi, for using Grey Hole, last night. The two disc on the raid card do not show up under Ubuntu 12.04LTS but they do show up under grey hole so I know the drives and the raid card are working and there. I need to access them in Ubuntu to format them and place folders on them but I can not see them or figure out how to access them. Q2. Only 4 of the six drives connected to the MB are showing in Ubuntu, but they show as active in grey hole. I also need to access these drives in Ubuntu as this is my storage server. I am new to LINUX so any help you can provide with simple directions will be greatly appreciated . Thank you Mechh69

• Clock running too fast

  I'm currently (for some days now) having the problem, that my Ubuntu clock runs to fast. and by to fast I mean like: last time I adjusted it was at 4 PM, now (10:25 PM) it shows 10:57 PM ! Any ideas how to fix that? Could it have something to do with handbrake? (I'm currently ripping my DVD collection, so handbrake is always running).   I use my Thinkpad laptop with a docking station. The docking station is connected to my router via LAN. When I walk around the house I use my laptop with WLAN. Is it possible (and how) to manage these devices with a script or something to work like this: If a LAN-Connection is up, the OS should turn off Wifi and if LAN-Connection gets lost (undocking) Wifi should turn on automatically.   I am using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and I'm getting a serious bug: When I try to shutdown my system, my screen goes blank but my CPU fan keeps running, i.e. the processor is still working but I am not able to see anything on my screen. I need to power off my machine for a complete shutdown. I am using a desktop with an Intel P4 processor. I found a solution on the internet involving modifying the GRUB config file. But even after doing so I wasn't able to eliminate the issue.

  I have an intel Imac dual-booting Ubuntu 10.04 and OSX 10.6. Both work fine, but sound is very quiet in Linux, even though the gnome volume control panel and pulse audio volume control panels are both set to 100%. I can turn the speaker volume up and it's fine, but then when I boot back to OSX the volume makes me jump out of my skin. Is there a setting I'm missing? If I turn the gnome sound pref volume higher then 100, it tends to distort the sound. (crackling)

  After I boot the Live-CD I can't select try Lubuntu or Install Lubuntu and I end up hanging on that screen. My PC specs are: Compaq Presario s4214bd 2.4ghz Intel Celeron.   I'm very new at Ubuntu and am still trying to figure everything out. I recently downloaded Compiz settings manager and enabled wobbly windows. Nothing. So I uninstalled it and re-installed it and still, nothing. I've ran all the updates and updated the graphics drivers and I still have nothing. I have a Sony Vaio with a Intel® Core™2 CPU T5500 @ 1.66GHz × 2 . Its a 2009 computer, so I think it should be able to work just fine. Please help!   When I open any program for first time after boot, it loads VERY slowly (Doesn't matter how long after boot). For example, terminal takes 2-3 seconds, skype and firefox often take much longer. If I close it and open again, it loads in reasonable time (<1 second). I got Intel Core i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz, so it shouldn't be hardware issue... What is causing this? • Why Ubuntu always force itself to be in 1440x900 resolution?

  My screen's resolution is 1024x768 and when I installed Ubuntu it was forcefully in 1440x900. I changed it in my account and again I've to change it in another standard account. I don't know any way to change it in login screen. Also when shutting down that black screen with some commands also appears in 1440x900. I don't know why Ubuntu force itself to be in 1440x900. I want 1024x768 in whole way. I don't know whether it is required but I have Intel chipset 128 MB.

• Nvidia tearing, any progress?

  I've been having tearing issues with Nvidia drivers since i installed ubuntu. I've tried every driver, from ubuntu ppa to xorg-edgers etc. None seem to relieve me of this burden. The only way for me (luckily this is my laptop) is to switch over to my intel graphics which is pretty reasonable. However as i've been searching, i noticed how many articles on this matter are at least from half a year to sometimes even three years ago. So i was wondering if there has been made any progress on this matter. Currently i'm using a GTX765M.

  Hi, I am tasked to provide an IPhone client app for our SaaS website. I have never written an IPhone application, nor do I have an IPhone at the moment. Before I can decide whether or not I want to do this myself or outsource this, I'd like to try a few apps myself to get a feeling for the UI. Is there any IPhone emulator I might use to download and run apps from the App Store? I do have an Intel-based Mac if that helps.
