  • python objects confusion

    wow i thought i knew python untill tonight.. what is the correct way to do something like this.. heres my code a = ["one", "two", "three"] b = a #here i want a complete copy that when b is changed, has absolutely no effect on a b.append["four"] print a #a now has "four" in it.. so basically i want to know, instead of the b = a step, how would i correctly make a copy of a list or dictionary so that when b is changed a does not change along with it.. thanks guys

  • Weird behaviour with Scanner#nextFloat

    Running the following in Eclipse initially caused Scanner to not recognize carriage returns in the console effectively blocking further input: price = sc.nextFloat(); Adding this line before the code causes Scanner to accept 0,23 (french notation) as a float: Locale.setDefault(Locale.US); This is most probably due to regional settings in Windows XP Pro. When the code is run again 0,23 is still accepted and entering 0.23 causes it to throw a java.util.InputMismatchException. Any explanation as to why this is happening? Also is there a workaround or should I just use Float#parseFloat?     I've got the following in one of my Oracle procedures, I'm using it to generate XML -- v_client_addons is set to '' to avoid null error OPEN C_CLIENT_ADDONS; LOOP FETCH C_CLIENT_ADDONS INTO CLIENT_ADDONS; EXIT WHEN C_CLIENT_ADDONS%NOTFOUND; BEGIN v_client_addons := v_client_addons || CLIENT_ADDONS.XML_DATA; END; END LOOP; CLOSE C_CLIENT_ADDONS; -- Do something later with v_client_addons The loop should go through my cursor and pick out all of the XML values to display, such as : <add-on name="some addon"/> <add-on name="another addon"/> What I would like to achieve is to have an XML start/end tag inside this loop, so I would have the following output <addons> <add-on name="some addon"/> <add-on name="another addon"/> </addons> How can I do this without having the <addons> tag after every line? If there are no addons in the cursor (cursor is empty), then I would like to skip this part enitrely

  • preg_match_all confusing failing

    $string = (string) file_get_contents($_FILES['file']['tmp_name']); echo $string; preg_match_all("/[\._a-zA-Z0-9-]+@[\._a-zA-Z0-9-]+/i", $string, $matches); print_r($matches); I am parsing text/csv files and grabbing email addresses from uploaded files. When parsing a Google Contact file I exported it weirdly fails. But when I simply copy the string that is echo'd and paste that instead of the file_get_contents result, it parses and works. Any idea why it is refusing to take the file_get_contents string, but if I paste in the raw data myself, it works?

  • The best way to structure this database?

    At the moment I'm doing this: gems(id, name, colour, level, effects, source) id is the primary key and is not auto-increment. A typical row of data would look like this: id => 40153 name => Veiled Ametrine colour => Orange level => 80 effects => +12 sp, +10 hit source => Ametrine (Some of you gamers might see what I'm doing here :) ) But I realise this could be sorted a lot better. I have studied database relationships and secondary keys in my A-Level computing class but never got as far as to set one up properly. I just need help with how this database should be organised, like what tables should have what data with what secondary and foreign keys? I was thinking maybe 3 tables: gem, effects, source. Which then have relationships to each other? Can anyone shed some light on this? Is a complex way like I'm proposing really the way to go or should I just carry on with what I'm doing? Cheers.

    I have a script that pulls information from a facebook page. Information that isn't available using opengraph but it's something my client has requested for their pages. Anyway, is there any way to use the cookies from the browser in the cURL script? At the moment when you run the script it asks you to log in. But I am already logged into Facebook at the moment and the script is still asking me to log in. Is there any way to use the cookies from the browser? Thanks

    If my Rakefile does not find a task with a particular name, I'd like rake to instead create a new task by that name according to certain rules, if a file with the missing task name exists. But if it doesn't, I want to fall back to the default ("Don't know how to build task 'foo'!"). In short, is there a method_missing for Rake?

If I wanted to, what's the easiest way to combine the sub-arrays so that I'm left with a one-dimensional array like: array( 'a'=>5, 'f'=>9, 'sdf'=>8 );

  • Using JQuery Lightbox within AJAX loaded content

    Hey. So this is probably a very noob problem but I'm not good enough to fix it. Basically... I have a gallery that I am loading into the page via AJAX. It looks simply like this: <div id="gallery"> <a href="Image1.jpg"><img src="Image1Thumb.jpg" /></a> <a href="Image2.jpg" title=""><img src="Image2Thumb.jpg" /></a> </div> But because it's being loaded in as AJAX content, JQuery/Lightbox is not working and I've no idea how can I get the script to run/recognise this newly loaded content.   • Voices disappear when using headphones. [closed]

    How do I declare a variable in C? P.S. I have a pair of SteelSeries Siberia headphones. I've noticed that when watching some films the voices are completely silent, yet when I unplug the headset and listen through my speakers they are there and sound normal. I have no other software that could be interfering with it and it happens regardless of the software I use for playback (I've tried VLC, WMP and Quicktime). It is so strange, and it almost sounds deliberate - the rest of the audio is untouched but voices disappear. The films only have single audio tracks, and it doesn't happen with every film. Can anyone give me any hints as to what could possibly cause this? I am stumped!

I have checked if the file exists and if it's in the same directory and whatever and it is, so I'm pretty much clueless atm. Does anyone know what could be wrong here? Cheers.

    I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing wrong, and I can't figure out how to Google it because a common mistake is very prevalent. I have the parent's height explicitly set, but I can't get #main-sub-content 's height to 100%.   • Logging on to two sites simultaneously

    I want to log on to two sites simultaneously to enable a single sign on solution. We have a smallish wiki that is created with Apple wiki and we have an intranet site on a aspx cms system by Elcom. Both use Active Directory for credentials. Currently they are on different domains, but we could enable a rewrite using our load-balancer (Citrix Netscaler) or IIS. These sites are on different servers, one a mysterious Mac system and the other an IIS v6.0 on windows 2003. Now I am almost certain that a reverse proxy set up will solve this but I really just need someone to agree that this solves this issue, and if there are things I should look out for what they might be. I just want to have an invisible log on screen in an iframe and enter clone the user name and password using javascript.
