• Fastest way to deploy rails apps with Passenger

  I am working on a Dreamhost server with Rails 2.3.5. Every time I make changes to a site, I have to ssh into the site, remove all the files, upload a zip file containing all the new files for the site, unzip that file, migrate the database, and go. Something tells me there's a faster way to deploy rails apps. I am using mac Time Machine to keep track of different versions of my applications. I know git tracks files, but I don't really know how to work with it to deploy my applications, since passenger takes care of all the magic for me. What would be a faster way to deploy my applications (and avoid the downtime associated with my method when I delete all files on the server)? Thanks!

• Connecting to Google app email servers in Python to send from an alias

  I'm looking to send many emails via Python and would like to connect to Google's email servers to send it from my company email address (it's for work). I've got working code for sending the email through the old company email ([email protected]) which is our login, but can't figure out how to send it through the alias ([email protected]) we use frequently. Long story short, logging in with my regular Google Apps account won't do and I need to sign in with an alias (nickname) instead. Alternatively, I can sign with the regular account ([email protected]) but send via a different email ([email protected]). Working in python and pretty new to programming, but am a good listener! (It's like this question: Google Apps - Send email from a nickname but in Python).

  Hi guys, I had this idea of creating desktop apps using django. The principe being: - Write the django app, and use something like cherrypy to serve it. - Write a Qt app in C++ to access it and this by using QtWebview (webkit) I'd like to "bundle" this in a single app. The lighter, the better :) So here are my questions and if you have better ideas and suggestions, please share them :) Is it possible to serve a django app with a c++ one? • ASP.NET MVC 4/Web API Single Page App for Mobile Devices ... Needs Authentication

  We have developed an ASP.NET MVC 4/Web API single page, mobile website (also using jQuery Mobile) that is intended to be accessed only from mobile devices (e.g., iPads, iPhones, Android tables and phones, etc.), not desktop browsers. This mobile website will be hosted internally, like an intranet site. However, since we’re accessing it from mobile devices, we can’t use Windows authentication. We still need to know which user (and their role) is logging in to the mobile website app. We tried simply using ASP.NET’s forms authentication and membership provider, but couldn’t get it working exactly the way we wanted. What we need is for the user to be prompted for a user name and password only on the first time they access the site on their mobile device. After they enter a correct user name and password and have been authenticated once, each subsequent time they access the site they should just go right in. They shouldn’t have to re-enter their credentials (i.e., something needs to be saved locally to each device to identify the user after the first time). This is where we had troubles. Everything worked as expected the first time. That is, the user was prompted to enter a user name and password, and, after doing that, was authenticated and allowed into the site. The problem is every time after the browser was closed on the mobile device, the device and user were not know and the user had to re-enter user name and password. We tried lots of things too. We tried setting persistent cookies in JavaScript. No good. The cookies weren’t there to be read the second time. We tried manually setting persistent cookies from ASP.NET. No good. We, of course, used FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(model.UserName, true); as part of the form authentication framework. No good. We tried using HTML5 local storage. No good. No matter what we tried, if the user was on a mobile device, they would have to log in every single time. (Note: we’ve tried on an iPad and iPhone running both iOS 5.1 and 6.0, with Safari configure to allow cookies, and we’ve tried on Android 2.3.4.) Is there some trick to getting a scenario like this working? Or, do we have to write some sort of custom authentication mechanism? If so, how? And, what? Or, should we use something like claims-based authentication and WIF? Or??? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

• SDK Facebook app - allow to use the app only on FB, not on my website

  I am newbie in creating apps for Facebook and I would like to ask you about a few things. I created my first app, in the settings I set up the domain URL, canvas URL, etc... when I load the app via apps.facebook.com/my_app_name the app is working, but also when I visit the page via the canvas URL I configured. Is there any way to only allow access to the app only when loaded inside the Facebook chrome? Also, in the app that I made are some links, buttons, etc. and when you hover over them with the mouse you can see my own domain in the status bar below. Is there a way to change that?

  I am considering building an app in C++ that will be parsing text from the web and create some statistical results. These results I want to be fed in an external app in real time. The external app (to whose code I have no access, but can ask for a - paid - custom made addition) will then need some code to read and use these results. I am wondering what would be the best way to interconnect the two apps, in terms of speed and ease of implementation. I am considering : disk I/O (slow) a Windows service a DLL a web service a web page Perhaps I am missing a better solution ? Thank you.

• JAVA-I don't want clicking on my app make other apps lose focus

  Wow, what a stupid question you might say. But is it possible? I have a mouse move event in a Jpanel and it works even when the application is not in focus, now can I have something like that for the clicking event or something similar. And most importantly I don't want other apps (even something like the main menu) to lose focus when i click on my app. I was the system's event queue but i'm not sure where that would lead me to. We are cautioned about not testing the framework, or the database. Good UI design does not lend itself to non-human testing. UI interaction in general is excluded in MVC frameworks. In many apps what is left?. 37signals talks about extensive unit testing, but in an app like Basecamp or Backpack, what exactly are the types of things being tested through appropriate unit tests? What would 100% code coverage mean in that scenario?

  I am new to cocoa development and want to create a little app. For that app I need a background worker that is running all the time and a prefpane-app that gives the user the opportunity to change the settings for that background worker. The gui for the prefpane is ready, the background worker is ready, too. One of the few missing things is how to share the preferences between both apps. How do I notify the worker about changes of the preferences? And how do I store it in a way that both can read/write to it?

I created the App IDs for my first two applications like this: XXXXXXXXXX.me.cbg.FirstApp YYYYYYYYYY.me.cbg.SecondApp but then Apple introduced the App ID wizard, which I used to create the App ID and provisioning profiles for my third application: ZZZZZZZZZZ.* So my question is: What is the "proper" way of creating App IDs for three completely independent apps? Should I use the XXXXXXXXXX.* format or XXXXXXXXXX.me.cbg.*? Should I create three different App IDs, or just one wildcard ID?

  Hey Guys, I signed up with Google apps standard edition for one of my domain names say example.com. I setup the emails like [email protected] - and using the Google Email client and loggin as user contact - if I send emails to users - they arrive in their inbox. But when I send it through my php script running on my hosting account where I have registered the domain example.com - using the same email address [email protected] - it ends up in the Spam folder - I've noticed this in both yahoo and gmail accounts Any tips on how to prevent this from happening. Can I use a HTML/JS/CSS - C# combination with event handlers and all? Something like ASP.NET Webforms/MVC . I know it is not the same client server architecture, but since metro styled apps support HTML/JS, I was wondering. I can use Win-JS. But can I rather write C# than Javascript, and use HTML rather than XAML?(I dont know XAML and I like C#) All the C# samples I found online use XAML.

  I'm looking for an app that can take my contacts from Gmail, Facebook, and my mobile phone, to come up with one consolidated address book that, for each contact, contains the name, email address, facebook username, and mobile number, and if possible, export this data to the Mac Address Book.   Hello guys! Maybe this is not the right place to ask this, but I give a try for it. Please don't rate it down, just ignore it if you don't like. So I have a Samsung i780 mobile phone and I would like to use the internet through my wireless router. I have connected to it. I got an IP address. My laptop is also connected to the same wireless network and I can ping the mobile phone and I get answer. When I open the internet explorer and enter an address it says that it cannot connect to the internet. I have googled very much, but can't find the problem. What do you think, what is the solution?
