• Using NHibernate with an EAV data model

  I'm trying to leverage NH to map to a data model that is a loose interpretation of the EAV/CR data model. I have most of it working but am struggling with mapping the Entity.Attributes collection. Here are the tables in question: -------------------- | Entities | -------------------- | EntityId PK |-| | EntityType | | -------------------- | ------------- | V -------------------- | EntityAttributes | ------------------ --------------------------- -------------------- | Attributes | | StringAttributes | | EntityId PK,FK | ------------------ --------------------------- | AttributeId FK | -> | AttributeId PK | -> | StringAttributeId PK,FK | | AttributeValue | | AttributeType | | AttributeName | -------------------- ------------------ --------------------------- The AttributeValue column is implemented as an sql_variant column and I've implemented an NHibernate.UserTypes.IUserType for it. I can create an EntityAttribute entity and persist it directly so that part of the hierarchy is working. I'm just not sure how to map the EntityAttributes collection to the Entity entity. Note the EntityAttributes table could (and does) contain multiple rows for a given EntityId/AttributeId combination: EntityId AttributeId AttributeValue -------- ----------- -------------- 1 1 Blue 1 1 Green StringAttributes row looks like this for this example: StringAttributeId AttributeName ----------------- -------------- 1 FavoriteColor How can I effectively map this data model to my Entity domain such that Entity.Attributes("FavoriteColors") returns a collection of favorite colors? • I keep on getting "save operation failure" after any change on my XCode Data Model

  I started using Core Data for iPhone development. I started out by creating a very simple entity (called Evaluation) with just one string property (called evaluationTopic). I had following code for inserting a fresh string: - (void)insertNewObject { // Create a new instance of the entity managed by the fetched results controller. NSManagedObjectContext *context = [fetchedResultsController managedObjectContext]; NSEntityDescription *entity = [[fetchedResultsController fetchRequest] entity]; NSManagedObject *newManagedObject = [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:[entity name] inManagedObjectContext:context]; // If appropriate, configure the new managed object. [newManagedObject setValue:@"My Repeating String" forKey:@"evaluationTopic"]; // Save the context. NSError *error; if (![context save:&error]) { // Handle the error... } [self.tableView reloadData]; } This worked perfectly fine and by pushing the +button a new "My Repeating String" would be added to the table view and be in persistent store. I then pressed "Design - Add Model Version" in XCode. I added three entities to the existing entity and also added new properties to the existing "Evaluation" entity. Then, I created new files off the entities by pressing "File - New File - Managed Object Classes" and created a new .h and .m file for my four entities, including the "Evaluation" entity with Evaluation.h and Evaluation.m. Now I changed the model version by setting "Design - Data Model - Set Current Version". After having done all this, I changed my insertMethod: - (void)insertNewObject { // Create a new instance of the entity managed by the fetched results controller. NSManagedObjectContext *context = [fetchedResultsController managedObjectContext]; NSEntityDescription *entity = [[fetchedResultsController fetchRequest] entity]; Evaluation *evaluation = (Evaluation *) [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:[entity name] inManagedObjectContext:context]; // If appropriate, configure the new managed object. Every time I want to add a row the simulator crashes and I get the following: "NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'This NSPersistentStoreCoordinator has no persistent stores. It cannot perform a save operation.'" I had this error before I knew about creating new version after changing anything on the datamodel, but why is this still coming up? Do I need to do any mapping (even though I just added entities and properties that did not exist before?). In the Apple Dev tutorial it sounds very easy but I have been struggling with this for long time, never worked after changing model version.

  I'm getting the error "Illegal acces to loading collection" when i'm trying to get a list of variants belonging to a certain product. • Getting consecutive version numbers from Hibernate's @Version usage once per transaction

  We use Hibernate with the following version definition for optimistic locking et. al: <version name="version" access="field" column="VERSION" type="long" unsaved-value="negative"/> This is fine and dandy; however, there is one small problem, which is that the first version for some entities is '0', and for others, it is '1'. Why this is happening, is that for some object graphs, an entity will be subject to both onSave and flushDirty - this is reasonable, such as if two object are circular dependencies. However, the version number gets incremented on both occasions, leading to the above '0' / '1' discrepancy. I'd really like the version number only to ever increment once per transaction. However, I can't see a simple way to do this in the hibernate versioning implementation, without hacking about with an Interceptor (which was how I generated a column value for version before, but I wanted hibernate to do it itself)..

• Nhibernate: one-to-many, based on multiple keys?

  Lets assume I have two tables Table tA ID ID2 SomeColumns Table tB ID ID2 SomeOtherColumns I am looking to create a Object let's call it ObjectA (based on tA), that will have a one-to-many relationship to ObjectB (based on tB). In my example however, I need to use the combination of ID and ID2 as the foreign key. If I was writing SQL it would look like this: select tB.* from tA, tB where tA.ID = tB.ID and tA.ID2 = tB.ID2; I know that for each ID/ID2 combination in tA I should have many rows in tB, therefor I know it's a one-to-many combination. • DTO and mapper generation from Domain Objects

  I have plenty of java domain objects that I need to transform to DTOs. Please, don't start with the anti-pattern thing, the Domain Objects are what they are because of a long history, and I can't modify them (or not too much, see below). So, of course, we've passed the age of doing all that manually. I've looked around, and dozer seems the framework of choice for DTO mapping. But... what I'd really like is this: annotate classes and fields that I want in DTO, and run a tool that would generate the DTOs and the mappers. Does that sound too unreasonable? Does such a tool already exist?

• Shadow maps unable to properly project shadows in some situations?

  In the shadow map sample provided by Microsoft I've noticed an issue where shadows are not properly projected when thin geometry is projected at high angles, see here the shadows being projected, notice the poles from the lights are not projected: http://imgur.com/QwOBa.png And in this screenshot we see things from the lights perspective, not ethe poles are clearly visible: http://imgur.com/k2woZ.png So two questions really, is this an actual bug or a limitation with shadow mapping and if it's a bug how can I fix it? The source is directly from the Microsoft DirectX Sample Browser 'ShadowMap' sample from July 2004, the sample browser is the latest August 2009 one.

  I have set up my mapping file and classes as suggested by many articles class A { ... IList BBag {get;set;} ... } class B { ... A aObject {get;set;} ... } <class name="A">...<bag name="BBag" table="B" inverse="true" lazy="false"><key column="A_ID" /><one-to-many class="B" /></bag>... <class name="B">...<many-to-one name="aObject" class="A" column="A_ID" />... I added a set of A's to the A table and a set of B's to the B table, all the data is stored as expected. However if I try and access aInstance.BBag.Count I get a null reference exception. I think I missing some key knowledge on how an bag gets instantiated. Thanks

  I have a ternary association table created using the following mapping: <map name="Associations" table="FooToBar"> <key column="Foo_id"/> <index-many-to-many class="Bar" column="Bar_id"/> <element column="AssociationValue" /> </map> I have 3 tables, Foo, Bar, and FooToBar. When I delete a row from the Foo table, the associated row (or rows) in FooToBar is automatically deleted. This is good. When I delete a row from the Bar table, the associated row (or rows) in FooToBar remain, with a stale reference to a Bar id that no longer exists. This is bad. How can I modify my hbm.xml to remove stale FooToBar rows when deleting from the Bar table?

Is there a way to map "?" to some key so that I press "r" for replace and then my_shortcut to have < replaced by "?"? I found a way to make imap mapping in .vimrc: :imap <> ? But changing to inset mode is sub-optimal, would that be possible to make it all in replace mode and what should I write in .vimrc for that?

The null value semantics of a component are ad hoc. When reloading the containing object, NHibernate will assume that if all component columns are null, then the entire component is null. This should be okay for most purposes. Can I override this behaviour? I want my Date class to be instantiated even if date is null. Thanks,

• Id property not populated

  I have an identity mapping like so: Id(x => x.GuidId).Column("GuidId") .GeneratedBy.GuidComb().UnsavedValue(Guid.Empty); When I retrieve an object from the database, the GuidId property of my object is Guid.Empty, not the actual Guid (the property in the class is of type System.Guid). However, all of the other properties in the object are populated just fine. The database field's data type (SQL Server 2005) is uniqueidentifier, and marked as RowGuid. The application that is connecting to the database is a VB.NET Web Site project (not a "Web Application" or "MVC Web Application" - just a regular "Web Site" project). I open the NHibernate session through a custom HttpModule.   My project needs to handle three databases, that means three session factories. The thing is if i do something like this with fluent nhibernate: .Mappings(m = m.FluentMappings.AddFromAssembly(Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly())) the factories would pick up all the mappings, even the ones that correspond to another database I've seen that when using automapping you can do something like this, and filter by namespace: .Mappings(m = m.AutoMappings.Add(AutoMap.AssemblyOf().Where(t = t.Namespace == "Storefront.Entities"))) I havent found anything like this for fluent mappings, is it possible?? The only solutions I can think of are: either create separate assemblies for each db mapping classes or explicitly adding each of the entities to the factory configuration. I would prefer to avoid both, if possible. Thanks.

How should be my mappings in this case ? Should I use References or HasOne ? Someone could give an example ? • What is a good solution to link different tables in Hibernate based on some field value?

  I have article table and several user tables a_user, b_user, ... with exactly the same structure (but different data). I can't change anything in *_user tables except their table name prefix but can change everything else (user tables contain only user information, there is nothing about article or user_type in them). I need to link article to a user (many-to-one), but user table name is defined by user_type field. For example Article table record: ... user_id="5" user_type="a" means that it is linked to a user with id=5 from a_user table (id 5 is not unique in users scope, each user table can have its id 5). Any suggestions how to handle this situation? How can I map this relation in Hibernate (xml mapping, no annotations) so it will automatically pick up correct user for an article during select/update? How should I map user tables (one or multiple classes?)? I would need to run some queries like this: from Article a where a.userType=:type and a.user.name=:name Thanks.

• Cascading items in a collection of a component

  I have a component which contains a collection. I can't seem to get NHibernate to persist items in the collection if I have the collection marked as Inverse. They will persist if I don't have Inverse on the collection, but I get an insert and then an update statement. My mapping is : m => m.Component(x => x.Configuration, c => { c.HasMany(x => x.ObjectiveTitleTemplates) .Access.ReadOnlyPropertyThroughCamelCaseField(Prefix.Underscore) .AsSet() //.Inverse() .KeyColumns.Add("ObjectiveProcessInstanceId") .Cascade.AllDeleteOrphan(); }); Is there a way to get it working marking the collection as Inverse and therefore avoiding the extra insert? • OneToMany association updates instead of insert

  I have an entity with one-to-many association to child entity. The child entity has 2 columns as PK and one of the column is FK to the parent table. mapping looks like this: @OneToMany(cascade = {CascadeType.ALL}, fetch = FetchType.EAGER ) @JoinColumn(name="USER_RESULT_SEQUENCES.USER_RESULT_ID", referencedColumnName="USER_RESULT_ID", unique=true, insertable=true, updatable=false) private List<UserResultSequence> sequences; I create an instance of parent and add children instances to list and then try to save it to DB. If child table is empty it inserts all children and it works perfectly. if the child table is not empty it updates existing rows! I don't know why it updates instead of inserts, any ideas why this might happen?? Thank you!

• Problems connecting to MS Dynamics AX 2009 Application Object Server

  I've got a funny problem connecting to an AOS server. I got a domain network containing a (VM) Server running the Application Object Server (AOS). Client computer A) can connect to the AOS without problems and work. When client computer B) tries to connect, all I get is this error message: Logon Error Connection with the Application Object Server could not be established. The event log of Client B) does not contain any messages about this. Firewalls are off on all three computers (by GP). Tcp/ip from cliebt B) to the AOS server does run fine. Both clients run the same OS (win 7 RC), sit on the same subnet, next to each other. Yesterday it all worked, today just one computer can connect. Any ideas what might cause this problem, how to resolve it, or how to debug it?

  I copied a bunch of my DVDs (yes, owned) to a drive and created a basic webpage to be able to search and play them. I am using the code at the bottom to create a Windows Media Player object and then play the video. The video files are pulled off the DVD in the original format so each movie has files like this: VTS_01_0.BUP VTS_01_0.IFO VTS_01_1.VOB VTS_01_2.VOB VTS_01_3.VOB VTS_01_4.VOB VTS_01_5.VOB VTS_01_6.VOB This all worked great until just recently. On my dev machine, I can play the videos but now, all of a sudden, there is no sound. I have tried the following but no luck: The video is not muted and the sound is at 50% Under the sound icon, under mixer, I checked IE and it is fine Sound works fine using another program, says WinAmp Opening Windows Media Player directly from the Start Menu and then playing the same movie works fine and I get sound I ensured that the option in IE to play sound on websites is checked I can play sound on other people's websites where they have embedded WMP files I tried resetting all of the IE settings on the Advanced tab in IE I tried my website, with my code below on another computer, AND IT WORKS FINE! I tried copying the media files listed above from the computer that works fine to my dev computer and it still doesn't work. If I try using a ".wmv" file, the sound does work By the way, I am using Win7 with IE8. As you can see, this is driving me crazy! Why would it stop working on my one computer and the same code and files work fine on another computer? • Mapping capslock to control on Mac OS X: works for some things, but not others?

  I've mapped my capslock key to control using the Modifier Keys mapping in System Preferences: Keyboard. I've also tried mapping to "right control" instead of "left control" as per http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20060825072451882 using a plist editor. The mapping seems to work in all cases except one: I can't use capslock with left-shift to make key mappings or apparently do anything else. capslock (as control) with right-shift works. I'm primarily testing by using control-tab / control-shift-tab to switch between tabs. Using the on-screen-keyboard viewer, I can get capslock-shift-(just about anything) to work, but not capslock-leftshift-tab. My best guess is that somehow the particular keyboard I'm working on is faulty, but I'm curious whether anyone else can reproduce this or has any ideas.

• Folder permissions, red x on user object

  This question was asked before but was no answer. On shared folders on the file server, for the domain user name object under the security tab, the icon has a red x. There are no symptoms, the users have full access, there is just a red x on the icon for their name. Why is this? For clarification, logged into the windows 2008 r2 file server, browse to a users shared folder, right click on the folder, hit properties, click the security tab. The object representing the users domain name has a little red x on the lower right hand corner of the icon that looks like a single man. There are no symptoms beyond me wondering why the red x is there.
