• Weblogic Bea 10.0 M1 and WorkManager

  Hi there! I have to execute long running threads in a WebLogic Bea 10.0 M1 server environment. I tried to use WorkManagers for this. Using an own WorkManager allows me to specify my own thread timeout (MaxThreadStuckTime) instead of adjusting the timeout for the whole business application. The resource-ref must be mapped to a JNDI name using the resource-description element of the weblogic-ejb-jar.xml descriptor. I try to figure out how to access / use WorkMangers for days now, and still get this or that as an exception. Very frustrating! Thanks in advance!

• Does COM interop respect .NET AppDomain boundaries for assembly loading?

  Here's the core problem: I have a .NET application that is using COM interop in a separate AppDomain. The COM stuff seems to be loading assemblies back into the default domain, rather than the AppDomain from which the COM stuff is being called. What I want to know is: is this expected behaviour, or am I doing something wrong to cause these COM related assemblies to be loaded in the wrong AppDomain? Please see a more detailed description of the situation below... The application consists of 3 assemblies: - the main EXE, the entry point of the application. - common.dll, containing just an interface IController (in the IPlugin style) - controller.dll, containing a Controller class that implements IController and MarshalByRefObject. This class does all the work and uses COM interop to interact with another application. The relevant part of the main EXE looks like this: AppDomain controller_domain = AppDomain.CreateDomain("Controller Domain"); IController c = (IController)controller_domain.CreateInstanceFromAndUnwrap("controller.dll", "MyNamespace.Controller"); result = c.Run(); AppDomain.Unload(controller_domain); The common.dll only contains these 2 things: public enum ControllerRunResult{FatalError, Finished, NonFatalError, NotRun} public interface IController { ControllerRunResult Run(); } And the controller.dll contains this class (which also calls the COM interop stuff): public class Controller: IController, MarshalByRefObject When first running the application, Assembly.GetAssemblies() looks as expected, with common.dll being loaded in both AppDomains, and controller.dll only being loaded into the controller domain. After calling c.Run() however I see that assemblies related to the COM interop stuff have been loaded into the default AppDomain, and NOT in the AppDomain from which the COM interop is taking place. Why might this be occurring? And if you're interested, here's a bit of background: Originally this was a 1 AppDomain application. The COM stuff it interfaces with is a server API which is not stable over long periods of use. When a COMException (with no useful diagnostic information as to its cause) occurs from the COM stuff, the entire application has to restarted before the COM connection will work again. Simply reconnecting to the COM app server results in immediate COM exceptions again. To cope with this I have tried to move the COM interop stuff into a seperate AppDomain so that when the mystery COMExceptions occur I can unload the AppDomain in which it occurs, create a new one and start again, all without having to manually restart the application. That was the theory anyway...

• Wireless card power management

  I have noticed that when my computer in plugged in, the wireless strength increases. I'm assuming this is to do with power management. Is there a way to disable Wireless Power Management? I have found a few blog posts that show hacks to disable this but what is best practice here? Should there not be an option via the power menu that lets you toggle this?   Hi, I’m working on a project that’s written in C# and uses a C++ dll to communicate with a robot. Originally the software was written in C# VS 2003 and was converted to VS 2008 (no change to the code) using .Net 2.0. Now, I started seeing the “Attempted to read or write protected memory…” on some computers. The Access violation error is always thrown when the code calls a particular method from the dll, however, that very same method is called over and over throughout the task and executes fine, just sometimes it throws the error. Also, the robot seems to execute the command fine which tells me that the values passed into the dll exist and thus are accessible. The software with the .Net 1.1 has been used for years and worked fine without ever throwing any memory errors. Now that it has been using .Net 2.0 it throws errors on some computers only. I’m not sure what’s causing the issue. I ruled out inappropriate calling (incorrect marshalling …) of the dll methods as it has been working fine with .Net 1.1 for years and thus should work fine in .Net 2.0 as well. I’ve seen some posts suggesting that it could be the GC, but then again why would it only happen on this one computer and only sometimes. Also, the values passed in are all global variables in the C# code and thus they should exist until the application is shut down and GC has no business moving any of those around or deleting them. Another observation, as I mentioned above, the robot executes the command normally which means that it gets all its necessary values. Not sure what the C++ dll’s method would do at the end where the GC could mess up stuff. It shouldn’t try to delete the global variables passed in and the method is not modifying those variables either (I’m not expecting any return values through the passed in values, the only return value is the method return which again shouldn’t have anything to do with GC.) One important piece of information I should add is that I have no access to the C++ code and thus cannot make any changes there. The fix has to come through the C# code or some settings on the computer or something else that I am in control of. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks. • Developing custom MBeans to manage J2EE Applications (Part III)

  This is the third and final part in a series of blogs, that demonstrate how to add management capability to your own application using JMX MBeans. In Part I we saw: How to implement a custom MBean to manage configuration associated with an application. How to package the resulting code and configuration as part of the application's ear file. How to register MBeans upon application startup, and unregistered them upon application stop (or undeployment). How to use generic JMX clients such as JConsole to browse and edit our application's MBean. In Part II we saw: How to add localized descriptions to our MBean, MBean attributes, MBean operations and MBean operation parameters. How to specify meaningful name to our MBean operation parameters. We also touched on future enhancements that will simplify how we can implement localized MBeans. In this third and last part, we will re-write our MBean to simplify how we added localized descriptions. To do so we will take advantage of the functionality we already described in part II and that is now part of WebLogic 10.3.3.0. We will show how to take advantage of WebLogic's localization support to localize our MBeans based on the client's Locale independently of the server's Locale. Each client will see MBean descriptions localized based on his/her own Locale. We will show how to achieve this using JConsole, and also using a sample programmatic JMX Java client. The complete code sample and associated build files for part III are available as a zip file. The code has been tested against WebLogic Server 10.3.3.0 and JDK6. To build and deploy our sample application, please follow the instruction provided in Part I, as they also apply to part III's code and associated zip file. Providing custom descriptions take II In part II we localized our MBean descriptions by extending the StandardMBean class and overriding its many getDescription methods. • Visual Studio Express 2012 debug mode doesn't work

  I have a project in Visual Studio that I have been working on for a while, and I have used the debugger extensively. Recently I changed some settings and I have lost the ability to stop the program and step through code. I can't figure out what I had changed that might have affected this. If I put a breakpoint in my code and try to have the program stop there, it doesn't. The break point shows up white with a red outline. If I hover the mouse over it, it says "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No executable code of the debugger's target code type is associated with this line. Possible causes include: conditional compilation, compiler optimizations, or the target architecture of this line is not supported by the current debugger code type." I know for a fact that the program executes the code where the breakpoint is because I put the breakpoint in the beginning of the InitializeComponent method. The program displays the window fine, but does not stop at the breakpoint. Yes, I am running in debug mode. It seems as though there is a disconnect between the compiled code and the source code displayed. Does anyone know what that would be, or know which compiler settings I should check to re-enable debugging? • How can I specify resources in an MVVM view model?

  Suppose I want to show list of objects where each object should have a name and a suitable image (for example MenuItems with Icons, or buttons with text and image). All examples and programs exposed the image in the viewmodel as a path to a PNG file and then bound the Source of an Image to that. But what if I want to use vector images (for example as a DrawingImage in a local ResourceDictionary)? Exposing the DrawingImage from the view model seems bad because I would have to store a reference to the application/window/user control/... (and it is advised to not expose such XAML objects from view models). So a better approach would be to use a string identifier in the view model and then somehow select the appropriate resource. If that identifier is the resource key this snippet looks tempting but does not work: <Image Source="{StaticResource {Binding Icon}}"/> I found two workarounds for that though they did not work for me. The first one was using a normal binding to the icon with a converter that looked up the resource in Application.Current. This does not work if the resource is stored somewhere else I think (and the situation where I initially bumped into this problem had no Application running yet since it was a Window choosing the Application to launch!). The second workaround was using a markup extension derived from StaticResourceExtension that fetched its ResourceKey from the passed binding: <Image Source="{local:BindableStaticResource {Binding Icon}"/> This one looks really neat because it could use local resources, also be used for other things. But when using it I always got an exception ("Resource named {FooIcon} could not be found.", showing the correct XAML file and position of the extension). Even an empty resource extension derived from StaticResourceExtension that just passed the resource key to the base constructor did not work and I cannot explain why. Just using StaticResourceExtension worked just fine. Any ideas how I could fix the second approach, or even better solutions? Edit I noticed that it does work when used directly like this: <Window> <Window.Resources> <DrawingImage x:Key="SomeIcon"/> </Window.Resources> <Image Source="{BindableStaticResource {Binding Icon}}"/> </Window> but fails for example in a DataTemplate. Though a normal StaticResourceExtension works on both occasions so I am puzzled what is going wrong.

• C# 'could not found' existing method

  Greetings! I've been fooling around (a bit) with C# and its assemblies. And so i've found such an interesting feature as dynamic loading assemblies and invoking its class members. A bit of google and here i am, writing some kind of 'assembly explorer'. (i've used some portions of code from here, here and here and none of 'em gave any of expected results). But i've found a small bug: when i tried to invoke class method from assembly i've loaded, application raised MissingMethod exception. I'm sure DLL i'm loading contains class and method i'm tryin' to invoke (my app ensures me as well as RedGate's .NET Reflector): The main application code seems to be okay and i start thinking if i was wrong with my DLL... Ah, and i've put both of projects into one solution, but i don't think it may cause any troubles. And yes, DLL project has 'class library' target while the main application one has 'console applcation' target. So, the question is: what's wrong with 'em? I've followed the exact instructions in ":help matchit", but % still doesn't work for me. It seems silly to ask "Why doesn't this work?" so instead I'm asking How can I diagnose the problem? • Cisco Unified Communication integration for Microsoft Lync crashes on Remote Desktop services 2008 R2!

The worst thing about exposing the BL as a DLL is that we lost track with what we expose. Deployment is not such a big issue since mostly, product versions are deployed together. • On REST: WADL or not IDL, is the following approach right ?

  This question is a bit long, please bear with me. In REST, i think we should not need WADL or any IDL. But rather something that would implicitly cover its concept. The way I think about it is when we (humans) surf the Web, when we go to a web site for the first time, we don't know what services it provides. You discover those on the html home page (or a sitemap page in a help section) or maybe just the main menu on the home page. If you make an analogy, the homepage or site map to us humans is what WSDL is to WS-* or what WADL could be to a REST service. Only that its just like any other html content. I think that in REST the following is a good way to do things, respecting the HATEOS paradigm. Have a top level (or default) resource that lists links to your other resources. For a library example, say RestLibrary.com/ it could be something like: <root xmlns:lib="http://librarystandards.com/libraryml"> <resource class="lib:book"> <link type="application/vnd.libraryml+xml" template="mylib.com/book/{isbn}" /> <link type="application/vnd.libraryml+xml" rel="add" href="mylib.com/book" method="POST" /> <link type="application/vnd.libraryml+xml" rel="update" template="mylib.com/book/{isbn}" method="PUT" /> </resource> <resource class="lib:bookList"> <link template="mylib.com/book?keywords={keywords}" type="application/vnd.openlibrary+xml" rel="search" /> </resource> </root> Note that it is assumed that the media type "application/vnd.libraryml+xml" is a defined standard or (may be just proprietary vocabulary) named libraryml. Also, the client should be able to understand this "homepage" resource (elements root, resource and link). This is the part that could be used instead of WADL : an Abstract vocabulary that should be understandable by any client. You could use an existing standard like Atom for example. But the main idea is to have an abstract vocabulary understandable by any client. Why not WADL then ? well wadl is only for service discovery. The idea here is to have an light abstract vocabulary that would serve as a base for hypermedia. A "root" vocabulary. Like in owl we have owl:thing...etc Now if the client knows the "libraryml" standard it can follow the links to the things it understands (after parsing the media type properties and xmlns). If not, it just won't. When i can't understand how to deal with something in REST architecture i tend to see how we Humans do it in the Web. In the Web, we have the Generic language that is HTML that enables site builders to deliver any specific content, regardless of its meaning to the client (the user), Browsers understand HTML but not the "meaning" of its content. It is the user that understands the (domain specific) content. If i go to say QuantumPhysics.org, my browser can render the home page (it is just html after all) and i can read the home page. If i understand quantum then fine i can continue browsing. If i don't i just get out (unless i want to learn the hardway :) ) In the RetsLibrary.com example the client app is just like me+my browser on QuantumPhysics.org. the media type "application/vnd.libraryml+xml" is quantum physics (knowledge). http is http in both examples. Now HTML of QuantumPhysics.org is in RestLibrary.com is XML + that tiny little abstract vocabulary (root resource and link, that you could replace with something like Atom). So does this approach have any value ? don't we need a root tiny hyper-vocabulary so we can succeed with hypermedia and the "initial URI" concept ? edit Yeah why not RDF as the root vocabulary !

  my problem is that I can't connect two comps through socket (windows xp and windows7) although the server created with socket is listening and I can telnet it. It receives then information and does what should be done, but if I run the corresponding socket client I get error 10061.   Results Delphi users who wish to use HID USB in windows HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB Contain a list if keys containing vender ID and Producer ID numbers that co inside with the USB web sites data base. These numbers and the GUID held within the key gives important information to execute the HID.dll that is otherwise imposable to execute. The Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device manager/USB Serial Bus Controllers/Mass Storage Devices/details simply lists the registry data. The access to the programmer has been documented through the API32.dll with a number of procedures that accesses the registry. But that is not the problem yet it looks like the problem!!!!!!!!! The key is info about the registry and how to use it. These keys are viewed in RegEdit.exe it’s self. Some parts of the registry like the USB have been given a windows security system type of protection with a Aurthz.dll to give the USB read and right protection. Even the api32.dll. Now only Microsoft give out these details and we all know Microsoft hate Delphi. Now C users have enjoyed this access for over 10 years now. Now some will make out that you should never give out such information because some idiot may make a stupid virus (true), but the argument is also do Delphi users need to be denied USB access for another ten years!!!!!!!!!!!!. What I do not have is the skill in is assembly code. I’m seeking for some one that can trace how regedit.exe gets its access through Aurthz.dll to access the USB data. So I’m asking all who reads this:- to partition any friend they have that has this skill to get the Aurthz.dll info needed. I find communicating with USB.org they reply when they have a positive email reply but do not bother should their email be a slightly negative policy. For all simple reasoning, all that USB had to do was to have a secure key as they have done, and to update the same data into a unsecured key every time the data is changed for USB developer to access. And not bother developers access to Aurthz.dll. • VB6 network errors Windows 2008 run on ESX VMWare

  We have an application built in vb6, the executables for the application are run locally on a Windows 2008 Terminal Server the dll's for the application are located on a network share. Intermittently parts of the application crash with inpage errors.. we realise the .dll it references then copy that dll locally to the windows 2008 server and register the application can then run again alternatly we reboot the server and all ok. ideally we do not want the exec's or dll's on local server, they should be located on network share for other Terminal Servers to access. error values we receive are C0000203 C00000C4 I have disabled windows 2008 UAC and DEP.. Has anyone experienced this type of behaviour in 2008?

• What is wrong with the following Fluent NHibernate Mapping ?

  Hi, I have 3 tables (Many to Many relationship) Resource {ResourceId, Description} Role {RoleId, Description} Permission {ResourceId, RoleId} I am trying to map above tables in fluent-nHibernate. This is what I am trying to do. var aResource = session.Get<Resource>(1); // 2 Roles associated (Role 1 and 2) var aRole = session.Get<Role>(1); aResource.Remove(aRole); // I try to delete just 1 role from permission. But the sql generated here is (which is wrong) Delete from Permission where ResourceId = 1 Insert into Permission (ResourceId, RoleId) values (1, 2); Instead of (right way) Delete from Permission where ResourceId = 1 and RoleId = 1 Why nHibernate behave like this? What wrong with the mapping? I even tried with Set instead of IList. Here is the full code. • getting Error while set up the connection pool in jboss

  Hi as per following Connection pool configuration facing some issue. Place a copy of mysql-connector-java-[version]-bin.jar in $JBOSS_HOME/server/all/lib. Then, follow the example configuration file named mysql-ds.xml in the $JBOSS_HOME/docs/examples/jca directory that comes with a JBoss binary installation. To activate your DataSource, place an xml file that follows the format of mysql-ds.xml in the deploy subdirectory in either $JBOSS_HOME/server/all, $JBOSS_HOME/server/default, or $JBOSS_HOME/server/[yourconfig] as appropriate. I am getting following error resource-ref: jdbc/buinessCaliberDb has no valid JNDI binding. Check the jboss-web/resource-ref.
