  • Why does the jQuery on this page work for Internet Explorer 8, but nothing else?

    I made a web page that uses jQuery: http://benmccormack.com/demo/MichaelMassPsalm/Psalm16Mode5.html When you change the selection in the combo box from Higher Key to Lower Key, all of the music images are supposed to change their source to be images that represent the lower key signature. This works great in IE8, but it won't work in Safari, Firefox, or Chrome. Why not? The code is in a format like this: QBYQC-Y??T3-W7G4R-QP4HG-2WQPT and they'll give you a hint such as two letters or a number and a letter. The solution to this is easy, brute-forcing it. However, I need the software that will make my browser repeatedly enter a new combination. What software can I use on Mac (and if not, Windows)?

  • Testing site performance with multiple browsers and versions

    We're trying to document the performance difference of our site using different browsers. We use LoadRunner for load testing but I don't see a way to specify the "browser engine" it uses to run it's tests (perhaps it's using it's own?). In any event I'm not sure that LoadRunner is the right tool for this job but we own it so if we can use it, great. If not, is there another tool out there that I can use to record a script and run it automatically against a site using several different browsers?

    I have this code where I have a made a character using 20 paths and put it into a set. Now when I animate the set, the first transformation runs smoothly, the second animation stutters, the third animation doesn't happen as it should and the 4th animation kills my pc, the browser hangs and in the task manager I can see that it consumes up to 70% of CPU. How can I avoid this and free the resources so all the animations run smoothly. *I have to execute 10 simple y-axis transformation animations on that character.   • why is internet explorer displaying my javascript pagination backwards?

    Here's a version of the code I'm using, stripped down to just the parts that aren't working. This is all written to generate some basic pagination with jQuery. In Chrome/Safari/Moz, I generate see spans, 1,2,3,4,...,etc When I look in IE7/8, I see etc,...,4,3,2,1 The string seems to be concatenating backwards!! This seems very strange to me, because there's not a whole lot going on in the code here, I can't figure out which bit could be causing problems.     Hello, I have a transparent table with width:100% which contains some html content. I use the table in order to position a content element on the screen center. The table captures mouse events, and the user can't press on links which are positioned beneath it (although it is transparent). Is there a way to tell the browser to ignore events on the table? I want to capture events only from the content inside the table (and from the rest of the site). Thanks Yaron

    I'd like to use unicode symbols within my website (especially Dingbats). Is there any way to enable this inside all (or at least some) browsers in Windows XP, without having the user to adjust any of his settings? I use the HTML5 doctype with the charset configured to UTF-8: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <meta charset="utf-8" /> </head> <body></body> </html> The browsers recognize the charset correctly (even IE7). But no special characters are displayed. I only see an empty square box. This is the case for all of the following browsers: IE7, Safari 4, Firefox 3.5, Chrome 4.1, Opera 10.51. So, is there any way to configure to enable all (or most) unicode characters for browsers running on Windows XP?

  • Why is window not identical to window.self in Internet Explorer?

    There's a convoluted backstory involving how I came across this, but why is the self property not exactly equal to the window itself? In Safari and Firefox and friends, the results are as I'd expect: > window == window.self true > window === window.self true The same isn't true in Internet Explorer, though: >> window == window.self true >> window === window.self false Can anybody account for the inconsistency? To exactly what is the self property of the window object pointing? It casts to something with equality, which is even more vexing.
