  • 3D framework/library os x

    Does anyone have any advice as to a good framework for simplifying the generation of 3D models? I am trying to construct a parametric program for tasks such as ship design. Actions such as surface modelling, intersections etc are a must. I have investigated openCASCADE and it shows promise but getting it to integrate into a native cocoa interface is not currently achievable (By me at any rate). All ideas and suggestions welcome. Should I just forget it and integrate an X11 window, if so any tutorials for doing this?

  • Lightbox-style dialog shows below YouTube movie on Mac OS 10.6

    This is a "but it works on my machine" one and could be tricky: I have a lightbox-style HTML dialog that shows a menu on top of a web page. It can be injected into any web page via a JavaScript bookmarklet. One of my users is trying to use it on YouTube.com with the result that the flash movie is rendered on top of the dialog (a div with high z-index). I can't reproduce this. It works just fine for me. The dialog shows up on top of everything else on youtube.com, the video included. I had him save the page in Safari as Webarchive and send it to me. Even that shows the menu rendered correctly for me. I use the exact same version of Safari (4.0.5/531.22.7) and Flash (10.1 r53, latest beta). Only difference I could find is that he uses Snow Leopard (10.6.6) and I "only" 10.5.8. Has anybody noticed similar problems? I'm afraid that the usual wmode recommendation won't solve this (I tried & it works on my machine anyway)... Thanks! Mark

    im trying to understand the factory design pattern. i dont understand why it's good to have a middleman between the client and the product (object that the client wants). example with no factory: $mac = new Mac(); example with a factory: $appleStore = new AppleStore(); $mac = $appleStore->getProduct('mac'); how does the factory pattern decouple the client from the product? could someone give an example of a future code change that will impact on example 1 negative, but positive in example 2 so i understand the importance of decoupling? thanks

  • When using software RAID and LVM on Linux, which IO scheduler and readahead settings are honored?

    In the case of multiple layers (physical drives - md - dm - lvm), how do the schedulers, readahead settings, and other disk settings interact? Imagine you have several disks (/dev/sda - /dev/sdd) all part of a software RAID device (/dev/md0) created with mdadm. Each device (including physical disks and /dev/md0) has its own setting for IO scheduler (changed like so) and readahead (changed using blockdev). When you throw in things like dm (crypto) and LVM you add even more layers with their own settings. For example, if the physical device has a read ahead of 128 blocks and the RAID has a readahead of 64 blocks, which is honored when I do a read from /dev/md0? Does the md driver attempt a 64 block read which the physical device driver then translates to a read of 128 blocks? Or does the RAID readahead "pass-through" to the underlying device, resulting in a 64 block read? The same kind of question holds for schedulers? Do I have to worry about multiple layers of IO schedulers and how they interact, or does the /dev/md0 effectively override underlying schedulers?     in my blackberry application i have to create a effect in which fullscreen bitmap is slowly disappearing and ui screen is coming up. protected void paint(Graphics g) { g.setGlobalAlpha(globalAlpha);//starting value of globalAlpha is 255. g.drawBitmap(0, 0, getWidth(), getHeight(), _bitmap, 0, 0); g.setGlobalAlpha(255 - globalAlpha); globalAlpha--; super.paint(g); } This code is just for giving demo that what i want. super.paint(g) is calling 255 times because of that its a poor code. in one timer task i am calling invalidate(); So any suggestions how to implement this?

  • OS X Terminal: Meta key + alt functionality at the same time

    Is there a way to use "alt/option" key as a meta key but still be able to use the key to make some characters which need it? For example in my local keyboard layout: @ is alt-2 \ is alt-shift-7 | is alt-7 etc. So if I set alt as meta key, I can't make those characters. On the other hand using "press esc, release esc, press a key" to make meta key sequences makes my hands hurt. Any emacs users with international keyboards who have solved this, please give any tips you might have! :) edit: It appears that I can set alt as meta key and then add these kind of settings in inputrc: "\e2": "@" This works in bash shell but it still won't work with emacs though, so no good.

    Hi Guys, In my iPhone app, I have many ASCII arts which I need to insert into the database. I am using the simulator and pasting the textpic in the textview to insert the ASCII art to database. Here the clipboard of simulator once pastes the art properly but when I copy another art then too it pastes the previous art into textview. How to solve this problem? Is there a work around for this or any better approach? Please Help and Suggest Thanks

  • Problem compiling mod_wsgi for python2.6 on Cent OS 5.3

    I am running a website on CentOS 5.3. I understand centos will break if the default python 2.4 is upgraded. I followed this site (http://www.question-defense.com/2009/12/25/how-to-install-python-2-6-on-centos-5-without-breaking-yum) and got python 2.6 installed. Now if I run "python" it runs python2.4 and if I run "python26" it runs python2.6. I am trying to compile mod_wsgi-3.2. When it run ./configure it takes only python 2.4 environment. I have tried using the --with-python=/usr/bin/python26. That way, "make" command does not work. Can someone throw some light on this? Thanks in advance

  • Would there be a market for this idea (cross platform VM for iPhone OS)

    For a long time I wondered if the following idea worth a nickel or just a waste of time and energy. I am willing to start a project which will provide a kind of a VM for all iPxxx apps - so developed once for iPxxx can run on a Macbook, iMac, Linux, Android and windows (desktop and mobile). You get the idea, right? I want to do to the current iPhone SDK, the same as what Mono did to Microsoft .Net and perhaps a more complete set of implementation. I tend to believe that if overnight all apps on appstore become available on the android market as well that would be a mini revolution. Think about running iPad apps on every tablet that will come out to the market in the future. Wouldn't it be fantastic to all the developers, which from now on, can write once and sell everywhere? The main questions which I ask myself repeatedly is: "Is This Legal?" - I mean, say I have done this, would apple's lawyers will start sending me all kinds of nasty emails? I am willing to hear your opinion about this idea as well as if some of you willing and able to join forces and start this open source project.

  • Creating a folder inside Mac OS App

    I want a an app that is "self-contained" (I don't know if i use the right word. "putting the app into trash bin will remove everything" is what I meant). But the app requires some resources to run. I usually put those resources into a folder. I want to move those resources into the App folder ( package contents). Can I do that? Is it a good practice to do that? When I test the app directly running from Xcode, the App runs fine. But if i run it from finder, the app will say fails to create resources folder because permission denied. I checked the app's folder permission - User(me) has read/write access. I am wondering what is causing this different behavior. The last option is to use Application Support folder, but I don't want to leave trails when user deletes the app. Can someone help me out here?

    I have developed a launchAgent in cocoa. It works fine for me on dev environment, by placing the plist file in location /Library/LaunchAgents/.To distribute and install this on other laptops, I created the package using package maker tool. As part of installation process I want to change permission of the plist file and copy it to /Library/LaunchAgents location. Could any one tell me how can i achieve this ?     I have inserted a video from youtube into a DIV tag, used the actual "embed" code found on youtube site. and used jquery to show/hide the div. when activated, the flash video shows perfectly in the div, when clicked it plays as usual the only problem i have is when someone using a Mac, and clicks on play, the flash video disappears. this happened on many Mac computers regardles of the browser being in use ( none Firefox neither Safari are working ) although i have tested it on all general browsers on windows and it works fine

    This question was close to mine, but not quite. I have a Windows desktop and a MacBook Pro. I'd like to be able to keep my Eclipse workspace in my Dropbox folder. The problem is that many project settings change between platforms: references to JREs, JDKs, and other libs. Every discussion I've seen of this problem seems to suggest taking advantage of the source control system's ignore functionality, so that such-and-such file remains local-only and thus able to remain platform-specific. But when you're working with a real single shared folder, that class of solution doesn't apply. Have you had luck working with a Java Eclipse project living in a single folder shared over the network, cross-platform?
