    I would like to know what kind of applications are suitable to be developed on top of Sharepoint 2010 and which should not be built on to of it. So when to embrace/avoid Sharepoint 2010 as a development platform for new web applications. I'm an Asp.net MVC (former web forms) developer and would like to know if usual multi-page semi complex web applications (intra/extra-net) should be built on top of Sharepoint 2010 and why (if yes or if no).

  • Backup Exec 12.5 or 2010? [closed]

    Backup Exec 2010 has just dropped, and I'm about to implement a new BEWS infrastructure, complete with CALs and new central servers. When I specced this up last year, I ignored 2010 and focused on Backup Exec 12.5, since it's a mature product. In previous experience, major released of BE had numerous technical issues and seemed to improve significantly at the first service pack. However, our refresh cycle on the backup infrastructure is slow, the main driver usually being lack of support for some new server type (in this case, ESX has driven our current upgrade need). With this in mind, I'm wondering if Backup Exec 2010 should be my first choice, as it'll last longer under current support than 12.5, which will approach EOL soon. Has anyone got any perspective they could add to this? Right now, I'm leaning towards biting the bullet and going with 2010.

  • Unable to remove "Run this program as an administrator" (greyed out) with Excel 2010

    I have issue with one of the user in Terminal Server 2008 R2 who has "Run this program as an administrator" checked and greyed out with Excel 2010. This causes UAC to popup requesting for administrator credential whenever user want to start excel. I found in excel 2010 properties Compatibility tab "Run this program as an administrator" is checked and greyed out (Unable to make any change) This issue only occurs in Excel 2010, all other Office programs does not has this option checked and greyed out. Currently UAC is set to Default (Second level to top) Other users in terminal server do not have "Run this program as an administrator" checked and it is NOT greyed out. The user who has issue is in the same group and has the setting as other users who doesn't has the issue in AD. Could anyone advise me how could I remove this "Run this program as an administrator" in option in Excel 2010? Thank you.

  • Edit Enterprise Calendar in Project Server 2010

    Has anyone been able to successfully edit the Standard calendar in 2010? I'm trying to change the working times as none of our admin accounts seem able to do it. We're running Project Server 2010 RTM on SharePoint 2010 RTM with Project Pro 2010. When I click the Edit Calendar button in PWA it triggers Project client to open up but it just opens up an empty project and I've not access to edit the Standard calendar using any of the published steps. It would be great to hear if someone has managed to do this so I can work out if it's a general glitch in this build or is it just a problem with out setup.

  • Speed Up the Help Dialog in Windows and Office

    When you click help, you don’t want to wait for your computer to bring it to you.  Here’s how you can speed up the help dialog in Windows and Office. If you have a slow internet connection, chances are you’ve been frustrated by the Help dialog in Windows and Office trying to download fresh content every time you open them. This can be great if the updated help files contain better content, but sometimes you just want to find what you were looking for without waiting.  Here’s how you can turn off the automatic online help. Use Local Help in Windows Windows 7 and Vista’s help dialog usually tries to load the latest content from the net, but this can take a long time on slow connections. If you’re seeing the above screen a lot, you may want to switch to offline help.  Click the “Online Help” button at the bottom, and select “Get offline Help”. Now your computer will just load the pre-installed help files.  And don’t worry; if there’s a major update to your help files, Windows will download and install it through Windows Update.   Stupid Geek Tip: An easy way to open Windows Help is to click on your desktop or Start Menu and press F1 on your keyboard. Use Local Help in Office This same trick works in Office 2007 and 2010.  We’ve actually had more problems with Office’s help being tardy. Solve this the same way as with Windows help.  Click on the “Connected to Office.com” or “Connected to Office Online” button, depending on your version of Office, and select “Show content only from this computer”. This will automatically change the settings for Help in all of your Office applications. If you want to integrate with other lines of text to the build output, you need to do more. This post will show you how you can add extra steps, additional information and hyperlinks to the build output.
