    Has anyone taken the vmware certified professional exam? I was wondering if I can just take this class: http://mylearn1.vmware.com/mgrreg/courses.cfm?ui=www&a=one&id_subject=10103 or would I need to do additional studying on my own? I'm a developer with limited server experience. I'm aware of the technologies but haven't worked with them directly. Anyone that has taken the exam or has been in a similar situation, any insight would be appreciated.

I put together the following ContentTemplate in the hopes that it would provide the seamless look required; however a thin white-line remained around each of the buttons.   • strange run time error message from CIImage initWithContentsOfURL

    When executing the following code I receive a run time error when the code executes the second line of code. The error (which shows up in the debugger) says: [NSButton initWithContentsOfURL:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x100418e10. I don't understand this message, because it looks to me (based on my source code) like the initWithContentsOfURL message is being sent to the myImage instance (of the CIImage class) ... not NSButton. Any idea what is going on? If it matters ... this code is in the Application Controller class module of an Xcode project (a Cocoa application) -- within a method that is called when I click on a button on the application window.     For quickly mocking up UI, I'd like to be able to drag buttons onto a view in interface builder, then drag a connection from that button to the view that should appear when you click it. A subclass of UIButton is a little inconvenient to use in IB, so I'd prefer to add the behavior to UIButton itself. Unfortunately, it seems like outlets created in a category aren't visible in IB: @interface UIButton (myextensions) { IBOutlet UIView *outletDestination; } @end Can extra outlets be added this way?

  • Multi-Threading Question Concerning WPF

    Hello, I'm a newbie to threading, and I don't really know how to code a particular task. I would like to handle a mouse click event on a window that will kick off a while loop in a seperate thread. This thread, which is distinct from the UI thread, should call a function in the while loop which updates a label on the window being serviced by the UI thread. The while loop should stop running when the left mouse button is no longer being pressed. All the loop does is increment a counter, and then repeatedly call the function which displays the updated value in the window. The code for the window and all of the threading is given below (I keep getting some error about STA threading, but don't know where to put the attribute). Also, I'm hoping to use this solution, if it ever works, in another project that makes asynchronous calls elsewhere to a service via wcf, so I was hoping not to make any application-wide special configurations, since I'm really new to multi-threading and am quite worried about breaking other code in a larger program...     Explanation: Let's say I have an object graph that's nested several levels deep and each entity has a bi-directional relationship with each other. A -> B -> C -> D -> E Or in other words, A has a collection of B and B has a reference back to A, and B has a collection of C and C has a reference back to B, etc... Now let's say I want to edit some data for an instance ofC. In Winforms, I would use something like this: var instanceOfC; using (var session = SessionFactory.OpenSession()) { // get the instance of C with Id = 3 instanceOfC = session.Linq<C>().Where(x => x.Id == 3); } SendToUIAndLetUserUpdateData(instanceOfC); using (var session = SessionFactory.OpenSession()) { // re-attach the detached entity and update it session.Update(instanceOfC); } In plain English, we grab a persistent instance out of the database, detach it, give it to the UI layer for editing, then re-attach it and save it back to the database. Problem: This works fine for Winform applications because we're using the same entity all throughout, the only difference being that it goes from persistent to detached to persistent again. The problem occurs when I'm using a web service and a browser, sending over JSON data. In this case, the data that comes back is no longer a detached entity, but rather a transient one that just happens to have the same ID as the persistent one. If I use this entity to update, it will wipe out the relationship to B and D unless I sent the entire object graph over to the UI and got it back in one piece. Question: My question is, how do I serialize detached entities over the web, receive them back, and save them, while preserving any relationships that I didn't explicitly change? I know about ISession.SaveOrUpdateCopy and ISession.Merge() (they seem to do the same thing?), but this will still wipe out the relationships if I don't explicitly set them. I could copy the fields from the transient entity to the persistent entity one by one, but this doesn't work too well when it comes to relationships and I'd have to handle version comparisons manually.

Update: this question is about a behavior discovered in the iPad keyboard, where it refuses to be dismissed if shown in a modal dialog with a navigation controller. Basically, if I present the navigation controller with the following line: navigationController.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationFormSheet; The keyboard refuses to be dismissed. If I comment out this line, the keyboard goes away fine. ... I've got two textFields, username and password; username has a Next button and password has a Done button. The keyboard won't go away if I present this in a modal navigation controller.   • WebKit doesn't paint background-color for entire width of final inline list item

    On our website http://www.dimagi.com, the items in the jQuery menu near the top of the screen gain a background-color on hover. The hover background-color of the rightmost list item ("About Us") is cut off at the very right edge of the text, seemingly only in WebKit (tested Safari and Chrome in Windows XP). Can anybody see what I might be doing wrong in the CSS? Or is this some obscure WebKit bug?

    I have a web form in SPARK which allow the editing of a Facility class that contains Rooms. When editing the Facility all the Rooms are listed for editing too. The form works fine for editing, but I would like to include a button "Add Room" that adds a new blank room below the existing ones. Any idea how this is accomplished? Currently I am doing this in my SPARK page: [All the Facility editing stuff...] <p>Room</p> <div class="small">Enter the rooms associated with this facility.</div> <div class="add"> <div id="room"> <AddFacilityRoom each="var roomModel in Model.FacilityRooms" RoomModel="roomModel" Index="roomModelIndex" /> </div> <a id="addRoom" class="add" href="events/room/add.mvc">Add a room</a> </div> AddFacilityRoom contains the html elements for editing a room. I would like add.mvc to create a new empty Room class and inject a new identical (but empty) control below the existing ones.   • How can I receive mouse events when a wrapped control has set capture?

    My WndProc isn't seeing mouse-up notifications when I click with a modifier key (shift or control) pressed. I see them without the modifier key, and I see mouse-down notifications with the modifier keys. I'm trying to track user actions in a component I didn't write, so I'm using the Windows Forms NativeWindow wrapper (wrapping the component) to get Windows messages from the WndProc() method. I've tried tracking the notifications I do get, and I the only clue I see is WM_CAPTURECHANGED. I've tried calling SetCapture when I receive the WM_LBUTTONDOWN message, but it doesn't help. Without modifier (skipping paint, timer and NCHITTEST messages): WM_PARENTNOTIFY WM_MOUSEACTIVATE WM_MOUSEACTIVATE WM_SETCURSOR WM_LBUTTONDOWN WM_SETCURSOR WM_MOUSEMOVE WM_SETCURSOR WM_LBUTTONUP With modifier (skipping paint, timer and NCHITTEST messages): WM_KEYDOWN WM_PARENTNOTIFY WM_MOUSEACTIVATE WM_MOUSEACTIVATE WM_SETCURSOR WM_LBUTTONDOWN WM_SETCURSOR (repeats) WM_KEYDOWN (repeats) WM_KEYUP If I hold the mouse button down for a long time, I can usually get a WM_LBUTTONUP notification, but it should be possible to make it more responsive.. Edit: I've tried control-clicking outside of the component of interest and moving the cursor into it before releasing the mouse button, and then I do get a WM_LBUTTONUP notification, so it looks like the component is capturing the mouse on mouse-down. Is there any way to receive that notification when another window has captured the mouse? Thanks.

  • mediaelement.js play/pause on click controls don't work

    I need to play and pause the video player if any part of the video is clicked, so I implemented something like: $("#promoPlayer").click(function() { $("#promoPlayer").click(function() { if(this.paused){ this.play(); } else { this.pause(); } }); ...but now the controls of the video won't pause/play. You can see it in action here(http://175.107.134.113:8080/). The video is the second slide on the main carousel at the top. I suspect I'm now getting 2 onclick events one from my code above and a second on the actual pause/play button. I don't understand how the actual video controls work, because when I inspect the element, I just see a tag. If I could differentiate the controls, then perhaps I might have figured out a solution by now. Anyone know how I should have done this, or is my solution ok. If my solutions ok, how do I intercept a click on the control, so that I only have one click event to pause / play? If you look on the media element home page, they have a big play button, complete with mouseOver, but I can't see how they have done that? Can someone else help?
