  • No colors when running native windows shell application from mintty

    Hi. I have installed cygwin (i'm not very experienced with it), and try to run a native windows shell application from it, (msbuild.exe which is the build tool for the .NET framework, to be exact). When I run the application from the normal cygwin bash shell, the output of the application appear as it should with the text colors that I would normally see in the windows command line. But when I execute the program from a mintty terminal, there is no coloring of the output, all text is in the default foreground color. I'm puzzled, because I would have expected the color coding to be the standard ANSI color code escape characters... Can this be fixed?

  • Application runs with different speed for two different user logins on windows server

    We have a application in Windows Server that download data from SQL server and store in our local machine. Now the problem I have is my Windows Server has two logins and in one login the app runs real slow, like gets 1 row in a minute, and from another login it fetches 20 rows in a minute. We have this problem only for a last couple of days. What could have caused this? More details: SQL server:S QL server2008 Os: Windows server 2008 Access method: Remote connection. Application: Custom .Net application to get data Both accounts are limited rights accounts. Any tools to track this? I am not sure what should I start with.

    I have a collection of clients on server's side. And there are some objects that need to work with that collection - adding and removing clients, sending message to them, updating connection settings and so on. They should perform these actions simultaneously, so mutex or another synchronization primitive is required. I want to share one instance of collection between these objects, but all of them require access to private fields of collection. I hope that code sample makes it more clear[C++]: class Collection { std::vector< Client* > clients; Mutex mLock; ... } class ClientNotifier { void sendMessage() { mLock.lock(); // loop over clients and send message to each of them } } class ConnectionSettingsUpdater { void changeSettings( const std::string& name ) { mLock.lock(); // if client with this name is inside collection, change its settings } } As you can see, all these classes require direct access to Collection's private fields.     I am using Ubuntu. I would like to have a user be able to double-click (or whatever they have set to open a file) on the save file for a java game i'm making, and have the game start and automatically load the save. How could I make the game launch instead of opening the file, and then pass the save's file name or location as an argument? Would i have to have the game create a new mime type the first time it ran, or something similar, so that Ubuntu knows what to do with the save when the user tries to open it?

    We are planning to set up a complete ERP and CRM system for a medium-sized global company, that might turn into a essential tool for all locations once deployed. For now these locations include USA, Germany, China and Indonesia, but the list is growing quickly. My question is, where it is best to physically locate the server to ensure the access times are optimal from all (future) locations? On my mind, I am dealing with multiple connected servers (a cloud?), where each of our users is served by the physically closest server. Being in a very competitive field we would also like to rule out, that any data is stored in mainland China... Thanks for any advice and pointers!

All that is available to me is the "Start" option, which fails (it should, because it NOT exist in webapps). Stop, reload, and undeploy buttons are disabled. How do I remove this application from the application List? I have tried restarting the server.

  • How to structure an application which reads UPC barcodes

    I have no previous experience on creating a project for a seller which will use barcode reader. I am trying to put together a small project but I cannot figure out how the pieces should glue together. I will create a sample with Motorola Scanner SDK to read barcodes and from that point, I have couple of questions: How UPC barcodes work in general? AFAIK, a barcode stores the manufacturer and product info but no price data. Should I store price information inside a database which corresponds to barcode data? I would really appreciate if you can guide me here.

  • How to troubleshoot Application Popup issues 0XC0000142 and 0XC000009a

    I am running randomly into 1 of these popups when our application runs. The machines range from 8GB/8Core to 24GB/24Core and run Windows Server 2008 R2. The application is a bunch of perl scripts and exe's that are expected to utilitize the server well. The process tree can be quite deep (5-6 child levels) and quite broad (60-70 level 1 processes). We hit this issues every 1% run on random machines. The application stalls on popup, unless someone clicks the damn button. The event log reads as cmd.exe - "Failed to initialize app. Click OK to close app" How could I reliably repro these issues?

    I installed Ubuntu 11.04 on one of my systems and I am using Unity interface. Unity is working quite nice so far but i really miss panel applets for net speed, cpu temp, and system monitor. These applets show useful quickinfo. Unlike 10.10, there is no other way to get these infos onto the panel or unity launcher. There are solutions like screenlets and conky but they don't feel appropriate for a clean desktop look. If you know then please list out any third party indicators with links so that they can be found at one place.

    Suppose there is system for gathering info about system activities. There is a client part with an interface and there are agent parts that are installed on each machine. I estimate that there could be max 20 computers now. Later could be more like 50. My solutions: Agent stores data into local database e.g. sqlite. There is also a service which can be used by a client to query data. So if a client wants to display data for 50 computers, he sends a query to 50 computers. I'am on that solution now but maybe it's totally wrong. Agent stores data into local database (I don't known good one for that). There is also server (main database) and local databases are synchronized with the server. In this case, a client connects to the main database to display data. Agent sends data in realtime to main database. So same as point 2, but there is no sync. Like in point 3, but agent buffers data in local database and sends it in small chunks to main database. What is the best approach?
