• WCF service reference stopped generating code for one project

  I have references to two different WCF services in a project. I updated the reference for one of the services, and now no code is generated for it. The references.cs file just has the "this is genrated code" comment at the top. Updating that same service in other projects and updating the other service both work fine. It's only that one service reference in this one project that's causing the problem, and I'm getting no information from Visual Studio (it just says it failed to generate code and I should look at the other errors, which provide no information). If I uncheck the "reuse types in referenced assemblies", code is generated, but I don't want to have this one project be different from the others. I'd like to solve the problem. Re-checking the reuse type option produces an empty references.cs file, again. The collection type doesn't seem to matter, either. How can I diagnose and solve this problem?

  Hi I'm interested to find out what would be the good way to make changes to production database and source code in web application (ASP.NET, SQL Server 2008). A little bit more details, we develop on local machines, and then we need to transfer the code and database changes to production (pretty much standard story). At the moment we do it in the evening, change the database directly from management studio on production server, and then just overwrite the existing asp.net code (copy/past). Thanks

If not, the user gets redirected to a 404 page, to seem like the file which has been requested doesn't exist. I really don't know if this is sure or there's a better and more safety way and I'm currently working with kind of confidential data that should never become public. Could you give me some tips? EDIT Let's say I have a customers list in a file named customers.php That file may be currently on http://www.mydomain.com/admin/customers.php and it must only be visible for the admin user. Once the admin user has been logged in, I create a session variable. That variable is what I check on the top of each page, and if it exists, the customers list is shown.   I want to make an intellisense code snippet using Ctl K + Ctl X that actually executes code when it runs... for example, I would like to do the following: <![CDATA[string.Format("{MM/dd/yyyy}", System.DateTime.Now);]]> But rather than giving me that string value, I want the date in the format specified. Another example of what I want is to create a new Guid but truncate to the first octet, so I would want to use a create a new Guid using System.Guid.NewGuid(); to give me {798400D6-7CEC-41f9-B6AA-116B926802FE} for example but I want the value: 798400D6 from the code snippet. I'm open to not using an Intellisense Code Snippet.. I just thought that would be easy.

• any ideas for avoiding duplicate code in C# and javascript

  i have an asp.net mvc website where i build up most of the page using C# for example building up html tables given a set of data from my viewmodel i also have a lot of javascript that then dynamcially modifies these tables (add row for example). the javascript code to add a new row looks extremely similar to my "rendering" code i have in C# that is used to build up the html table in the first place. Every time i change the c# code to a add a new field, i have to remember to go back to the javascript code to do the same. is there a better way here?

  Whether we're maintaining unfamiliar code or checking out the implementation details of an Apache module it can help if we can quickly traverse the code and build up an overview of what we're looking at. Grep serves most of my daily needs but there are some cases where it just wont do. Here's a common example of how it can help. To find the definition of a PHP function I'm interested in I can type this at the command line: grep -r "function myfunc" . This could be adapted very quickly to C or C++ if we know the return type, but things become more complicated if, say, I want to list every method that my class provides: grep "function " ./src/mine.class.php Since there's no single keyword that denotes a function or method in C++ and because it's generally more complex syntax, I think I'd need some kind of static code analysis tool, smart use of the C Preprocessor or blind faith the coder followed strict code guidelines (# of whitespace, position of curlies etc) to get these sorts of results. What would you recommend? p.s. be nice, this is my first post ;-) :p

  I use the DAO method Execute to delete some records. If this fails this is clear by checking RecordsAffected (it will be 0). But is it possible to get the error message (for instance, to log or to show to the user)? I've try to delete the records by hand in the Table grid I get a clear dialog message, e.g. "The record cannot be deleted or changed because tabel x includes related records".

  Context: ASP.NET MVC 2.0, C#, SQL Server 2007, IIS7 I have 'scheduledMeetings' table in the database. There is a one-to-many relationship: scheduledMeeting - meetingRegistration So that you could have 10 people registered for a meeting. meetingRegistration has fields Name, and Gender (for example). I have a "calendar view" on my site that shows all coming events, as well as gender count for each event. At the moment I use Linq to Sql to pull the data: var meetings = db.Meetings.Select( m => new { MeetingId = m.Id, Girls = m.Registrations.Count(r => r.Gender == 0), Boys = m.Registrations.Count(r=>r.Gender == 1) }); (actual query is half-a-page long) Because there is anonymous type use going on I cant extract it into a method (since I have several different flavors of calendar view, with different information on each, and I dont want to create new class for each). Any suggestions on how to improve this? Is database view is the answer? Or should I go ahead and create named-type? Any feedback/suggestions are welcome. My DataLayer is huge, I want to trim it, just dont know how. Pointers to a good reading would be good too.

  b'h i will be programmatically importing a text file into a table. i have saved the import steps. i will use this: DoCmd.TransferText(TransferType, SpecificationName, TableName, FileName, HasFieldNames, HTMLTableName, CodePage) to do the import. this is what SpecificationName means: Specification Name The specification name for the set of options that determines how a text file is imported, exported, or linked. For a fixed-width text file, you must either specify a specification name or use a schema.ini file, which should be stored in the same directory as the imported, linked, or exported text file. i do need a specific specification; however i do not know how to specify one. when i manually imported a table, i did save the specifications for my import, however i do not know how to call this in the TransferText. does anyone know how to specify SpecificationName ?

  I need to create a field called “rank”, that ranks each part ID based on total sales, by assigning a sequential number based on total sales, where the higher the total sales, then the lower the rank value.
