  • ICC vs GCC - Optimization and CPU architecture

    Hi all, I'm interested in knowing how GCC differs from Intel's ICC in terms of the optimization levels and catering to specific processor architecture. I'm using GCC 4.1.2 20070626 and ICC v11.1 for Linux. How does ICC's optimization levels (O1 to O3) differ from GCC, if they differ at all? The ICC is able to cater specifically to different architectures (IA-32, intel64 and IA-64). I've read that GCC has the -march compiler option which I think is similar, but I can't find a list of the options to use. I'm using Intel Xeon X5570, which is 64-bit. Are there any other GCC compiler options I could use that would cater my applications for 64-bit Intel CPUs? Thank you. Regards, Rayne

    I've upgraded current Target for iPad and I dodn't like the result. Now, i've tried to downgrade by deleting files but it's not working. Help! Do I need to change project settings? Everything worked fine until I upgraded frome framework 3.5 to 3.5 sp1. the wcf web service stoped working and returns the error: "Failed to invoke the service.     Hi, I've upgraded PHP on my local dev system to version 5.3.0, and there is some problem when I use constants in application.ini - following manual http://framework.zend.com/manual/en/learning.quickstart.create-project.html I have: bootstrap.path = APPLICATION_PATH "/Bootstrap.php" which leads to: Warning: require_once(APPLICATION_PATH/Bootstrap.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in Zend\Application.php on line 320 any ideas? SOLVED: Actually name of my constant was _DIR_APPLICATION (code above was copied from ZF manual) - problem lies in this underscore at the begining - it seems that parse_ini_file() in PHP 5.3.0 doesn't replace constants named like this. Short test - you need two files: test.ini bootstrap.path = _DIR_APPLICATION "/Bootstrap.php" bootstrap.class = "Bootstrap" and test.php <?php define('_DIR_APPLICATION', 'test'); $data = parse_ini_file('test.ini'); print_r($data); try to run, then change constant name to 'DIR_APPLICATION' (in both files) and compare result ;)

    I have an existing journal website with the following url structure http://mysite.com/dbtable_id/ (eg. http://mysite.com/89348/) where 89348 is the primary key id of the journal article. I want to add the title of the article to the url for SEO purposes like http://mysite.com/dbtable_id/article-title (eg. http://mysite.com/89348/hello-world) I like this approach because I don't need to change the PHP code since it will still look up the article by dbtable_id. All I have to do is append url friendly titles to relevant links in template files and add one more rule to a .htaccess file. Is there anything I should be concerned about? Am I following best practices? Will the possibility for mismatch between "dbtable_id" and "article-title" affect SEO?

  • WCF is throwing UnauthorizedAccessExceptyion after upgrade to .NET 4.0

    I have a pretty simple client-server ASP.NET app; communication is via WCF service. All worked perferctly inVS 2008, now I upgraded to VS2010 and every time the client code is trying to instantiate a channel to the server: new ChannelFactory<IMemberService>("Members.MemberService").CreateChannel(); it throws an UnauthorizedAccessException "Access denied". Were there any breaking changes in the new version, or do I need to add some configuration? I'm pretty stuck, any ideas would be highly appreciated! BTW, binding used is basicHttpBinding, i don't know if thats important here. Thank you, Andrey

    I have created a RichTextBox called SharpTextBox which indicates and limits the number of characters that can be typed in it. The implementation is shown in the following link: http://www.highoncoding.com/Articles/673_Creating_SharpRichTextBox_for_Live_Character_Count_in_WPF.aspx Anyway when I start typing in the TextBox it goes from 3% to 78%. The TextBox updates the Label control which shows the number of characters remaining for the count. How can I increase the performance of the textbox? UPDATE: I read there seems to be some problem with the TextRange.Text property which kills performance.

    I want to make a change to a VB6 app which consists of a .EXE, no VB6 DLLs but a handful of .NET DLLs. The interop is achieved by a one of the .NET dlls being referenced by the VB6 app which seems to require REGASM-ing of an associated .tlb file. If I want to change only the VB6 app .exe, could I just compile it and drop it into the app folder on existing installations or are there going to be binding issues?

  • Problem with SQLite related nUnit-tests after upgrade to VS2010 and Re#5

    After converting to Visual Studio 2010 with ReSharper5 some of my unit tests started failing. More specifically this applies to all unit tests that use NHibernate with SQLite. The problem seem to be related to SQLite somehow. The unit tests that does not involve NHibernate and SQLite are still running fine. The exception is as follows: NHibernate.HibernateException : Could not create the driver from NHibernate.Driver.SQLite20Driver, NHibernate, Version=2.1.2.4000, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=aa95f207798dfdb4. ----> System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException : Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ----> NHibernate.HibernateException : The IDbCommand and IDbConnection implementation in the assembly System.Data.SQLite could not be found. Ensure that the assembly System.Data.SQLite is located in the application directory or in the Global Assembly Cache. If the assembly is in the GAC, use <qualifyAssembly/> element in the application configuration file to specify the full name of the assembly. TearDown : System.NullReferenceException : Object reference not set to an instance of an object. The exception is the NullReferenceException on TearDown when cleaning up NHibernate objects that wasn't successfully created, but the problem seem to be related to SQLite somehow. I run my unit tests through ReSharper, but I get the same exception when running them directly through the NUnit.exe application. However, running them through the x86 variant (NUnit-x86.exe) all tests run fine. Can it be related to some mixing of 64bit and 32bit dlls? It still runs fine through VS2008 + ReSharper4.5. Note that the target framework of my projects still is .NET3.5. Anyone seen this problem before?

  • ASP.NET 1.0 site error after upgrade to VS.NET 2010

    Help. I installed VS.NET 2010 and now my existing ASP.NET MVC application won't run. I checked that the 1.0 version of System.Web.Mvc is still referenced but when I browse my application, I get an error like this: "Compiler Error Message: CS1579: foreach statement cannot operate on variables of type 'object' because 'object' does not contain a public definition for 'GetEnumerator'". My partial view has this declaration: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<List<ProductModel" %> //various import statements <div <% foreach (var category in Model.Categories) { % <span<%= category.Name %</span <span<%= category.Market%</span <% } % </div For what it's worth, the source view shows ViewUserControl in red and gives a tool tip reading "Cannot resolve symbol 'ViewUserControl'". My working code didn't change, the only delta is that I upgraded to VS.NET 2010 (which includes MVC 2.0); I'm sure something is not referenced correctly but I cannot figure out what's going on.

    What is the best/easiest way to build a minimal task queue system for Linux using bash and common tools? I have a file with 9'000 lines, each line has a bash command line, the commands are completely independent. command 1 > Logs/1.log command 2 > Logs/2.log command 3 > Logs/3.log ... My box has more than one core and I want to execute X tasks at the same time. I searched the web for a good way to do this. Apparently, a lot of people have this problem but nobody has a good solution so far. It would be nice if the solution had the following features: can interpret more than one command (e.g. command; command) can interpret stream redirects on the lines (e.g. ls > /tmp/ls.txt) only uses common Linux tools Bonus points if it works on other Unix-clones without too exotic requirements.

    We upgraded from mockito-all-1.8.5.jar to mockito-all-1.9.0.jar and now see null pointers when using annotations for the classes being mocked. This application is currently available on app store as paid application, I want to update this paid application to free application with this In App purchase feature, where users can download it freely and have to pay for few features to unlock them. But the problem is that, if I update the existing paid application as free application (with few features locked and user has to buy it to unlock it), what about the users who have already purchased this application. Because when they will update to new free application, few features will be locked and they have to pay again to unlock them (why should they pay, if they have already purchased whole application previously).
