• Analiytics: Can I set a goal on multiple events?

  We have a popup dialogue that requests users email address or facebook login. The page behind the popup loads, so a page view is counted. We want to measure: How many users ignored the popup completely How many users engaged the popup, but don't complete the process (we trigger an event when the user performs actions defined as "engaging") How many users completed the popup Bounce rates aren't telling because some users won't receive the popup. We are basically triggering events "PopupDisplayed" "PopupEngaged" and "PopupComplete", with labels to differentiate between email and facebook. But I don't think I can set goals to count "Users who received 'PopupDisplayed' AND 'PopupComplete'" events, so I can count how many users both saw the popup and completed it.

• Resolving a cname using different DNS

  I have a domain name (e.g. abc.com) registered in GoDaddy and I have a few subdomains (mail, blog) correctly setup to a different hosts. Now I want to park my domain with a parking host (seohosting.com) which asked me to change my nameserver to their DNS. What I want is to only redirect dns queries for (www or @) cname to seohosting.com while still being able to use my other cname for my own purpose. Is there a way to do this? I dont have the host IP address for parking host.

  I recently had a discussion with a professor of mine on the topic of web development. I had recently decided I would learn python to increase my arsenal of web tools which I mentioned to him at that time. He almost immediately asked why I would waste my time on that. I'm not certain but I think he recently started in on researching and studying web development so he could pick up the web development classes that haven't been taught for a while after the previous professor who taught those classes left. I've heard a lot about python and thought maybe he was mistaken about its usefulness. Is python a useful tool to have? What applications can it be used for? Is it better than other similar alternatives? Does it have useful applications outside of web development as well?

  For the following website: Noaoomah Q&A I have two different Alexa rankings as follows: 1) The public ranking on Alexa siteinfo page of the website, that is the usual ranking page and it indicates a rank of 318,254 which they claim it is updated daily: http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/noaoomah.com 2) Another public and daily ranking of the same website but it is viewable using either the freely avaliable list for Top 1,000,000 Sites in this page at the almost top right or using StatsCrop website and this ranking indicates a rank of 253,753. Which one is more accurate? Why different daily rankings?

• Linking a facebook app's page to an existing facebook business page

  I have a facebook app page, and a separate facebook business profile page. The business page was created, but not by me, some time before the app and its page were created. Is there any way to connect the two pages, or import the content and friends from one to the other? The older profile page has some content; a set of friends and wall posts that I don't want to lose. It was created before I had a chance to set up an app page. Since the app was created more recently, it does not have any content posted to it. I intended the app page to eventually hold some advertising info for my main website itself (non-canvas, just using fb for the connect api etc). The idea being that as people sign up on my site through facebook's OAuth, I could use the graph api to post to their wall. The wall posts are working as expected but naturally they are directing users to the facebook app page, which has no content, friends etc. I'd prefer to be directed to the original business page, where the party is really happening. Now it seems that the two pages are completely separate; what would I need to do to direct the users to the business page?

• What are the options for hosting a small Plone site? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How to find web hosting that meets my requirements? I’ve developed a portfolio website for myself using Plone 4, and I’m looking for someplace to host it. Most Plone hosting services seem to focus on large, corporate deployments, but I need something that I can afford on a very limited budget and fits a small, single-admin website. My understanding is that my basic options are thus: I can go with a hosting service that specifically provides Plone. I know of WebFaction, but what others exist? Also, I’d have two stipulations for a Plone hosting service: (a) It needs to use Plone 4, for which I’ve developed my site, and (b) it needs to allow me SSH access to a home directory (including the Plone configuration), so that I may use my custom development eggs and such. I could use a VPS hosting service. What are my options here? Again, I need something cheap and scaled to my level. I could use Amazon EC2 or a similar service (please tell me of any) and pay by the tiniest unit of data. I’m a little scared of this because I have no idea how to do a cost-benefit analysis between this and a regular VPS host. The advantage of this approach would be that I only pay for what I use, making it very scalable, but I don’t know how the overall cost would compare to any VPS host under similar circumstances. What factors enter into the cost of Amazon EC2? What can I expect to pay under either option for regular traffic for a new website? Which one is more desirable for when a rush of visitors drive up my bandwidth bill? One last note: I know Plone isn’t common for websites for individuals, but please don’t try to talk me out of it here; that’s a completely different subject. For now, assume I’m sticking with Plone for good. Also, I have seen the Plone hosting services list on Plone.org—it’s twenty pages long, and the first page was nothing but professional Plone consulting services that sometimes offer hosting for business clients. The reason for this is that my shared hosting company a2hosting has a specific configuration (symfony,mysql,git) that I don't want to spend time duplicating when I can just ssh and develop remotely or through netbeans remote editing features. My question is how can I use git to separate my site into three areas: live, staging and dev. • Mod Rewrite - directing HTTP/HTTPS traffic to the appropriate virtual hosts

  I have an Apache2 web server (v. 2.2.16) running on Debian hosting three virtual hosts. The first two hosts are HTTP only (server1 and server2). The last host is HTTPS only (server3). My virtual host configuration files can be found at pastebin. I would like to use mod rewrite to get the following behavior: Any request for http://server3 is re-directed to https://server3 Any request for either https://server1 or https://server2 is re-directed to http://server1 or http://server2 as appropriate. Currently, requesting http://server3 gives you a 403 because indexing is disabled for that host and a request for https://server1 or https://server2 will resolve as https://server3 (as its the only virtual host running SSL). This behavior is not desirable. So far I have added a rewrite rule to the central configuration file (myServerWideConfs.conf), with unfortunately no effect. I was under the impression that this rule (or something similar) should rewrite all https:// requests for server1 and server2 to the proper http:// request. RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^server3 [NC] RewriteRule (.*) http://%{HTTP_HOST} My question is two-fold: What mod rewrite rules should I use to accomplish this? And where should they go? Debian's packaging of Apache has a pretty granular (i.e., fractured) configuration file layout; should my rewrite rules go in /etc/apache2/apache2.conf, /etc/apache2/conf.d/myServerWideConfs.conf, or the individual virtual host files? Is mod rewrite the right tool to accomplish this or am I missing something in my greater apache configuration?

  I use cookie based sessions, and they work for normal interaction with our site. However, when Googlebot comes crawling out PHP framework, Yii, needs to append ?PHPSESSID to each URL, which doesn't look that good in SERP. Any ways to suppress this behavior? PS. I tried to utilize ini_set('session.use_only_cookies', '1');, but it does not work. PPS. • SEO one longer page vs. several targeted subpages?

  We're working on a site and have come to a choice between one long (not too excessive) main page and several subpages. The subpages would have custom metas/titles/h2 tags and the content that corresponds to them. The main page would have all the content and many more inbound links (pagerank) and with longer content encompassing the content we'd put on the shorter pages. Which would be better for seo and traffic in general? Both schemes are very usable to the user although we are a little concerned with duplicate content (the page's header/footer and other elements remain the same)

• Can prefixing a dash reduce the search engine rating?

  Hi anyone! If I prefix a dash to GUIDs in my URLs on my Web site, in this manner: example.com/some/folders/-35x2ne5r579n32/page-name Will my SEO rating be affected? Background: On my site, people can look up pages by GUID, and by path. For example, both example.com/forum/-3v32nirn32/eat-animals-without-friends and example.com/forum/eat-animals-without-friends could map to the same page. To indicate that 3v32nirn32 is a GUID and not a page name, I thought I could prefix a - and then my webapp would understand. But I wouldn't want my search engine rating to drop. And prefixing a dash in this manner seems weird, so perhaps Googlebot lowers my rating. Hence my question: Do you know if my search engine rating might drop? (Today or in the future?) (I could also e.g. prefix id-, so the URL becomes example.com/forum/id-3v32nirn32, but then people cannot create pages that start with the word "id".) • Looking for Windows shared web hosting with PHP support

  I'm looking for Windows based shared web hosting which supports multiple hosted web sites (multiple domains). Supported technologies should contain: ASP.NET 4, ASP.NET MVC IIS 7 MS SQL 2008 PHP, MySQL It is for my hobby projects so it should not be too expensive. I tried GoDaddy's Windows Deluxe hosting but the experience is very bad and I want to move elsewhere. WordPress hosted on GoDaddy's Windows hosting is unloaded every few minutes and next request takes around 20s to complete. Following request to empty site takes around 3s to complete. Even request for RSS wich transfers 1.2KB takes several seconds. The delay happens in PHP processing because static content is served within 200ms. It helped to migrate to Linux hosting (all requests are served under 1s) but Linux hosting is not what I'm looking for.

• From .psd to working HTML and CSS - help me suck less

  I am not much of a designer. My strength lies in coding. That said, I'm often forced into the role of "The Man," responsible for all aspects of site creation. So, that said I'm wondering if the pros can give me tips/solutions/links to tutorials to my main questions. Resolution. What should I aim for? What are the lower and upper edges I should be aware of? I know that systems like 960 Grid were popular recently. Is that the number I should still aim for? Slicing up a .psd - are there any tricks I should know? I've always found it difficult to get my slices pixel perfect. I'm also really slow at it. I must be looking at it wrong, or missing something fundamental. The same goes for text. Layouts are always filled with the classic "Lorem...", but I can never seem to get real content to fit quite as well on the screen. The advanced (to me, anyway) looking things, like a part of a logo/image overlaying what looks like a content area. How does one do that? How do layouts change/are informed by the decision to go fixed or liquid? Again, any tips/tricks/suggestions/tutorials you can share would be greatly appreciated.

  We've been debating the following SEO question at our office: If you block bot access to a page either via robots.txt or on-page noindex metadata, does that negate the value of any backlinks to that page? We have a client who wants to block some event booking form pages from being indexed as each booking form page has a unique URL parameter and the pages are "clogging up" the Google index; however lots of websites link to those booking form pages and we wouldn't want to lose the value of those links. Windows firewall on the server has an exception rule for port 80 TCP Router has static I.P. XX.XXX.XX.XXX Router is forwarding TCP port 80 to 192.168.1.3 My domain registrar is my DNS host and is pointing to the static I.P. XX.XXX.XX.XXX of the router Here's what I can and can't do. I can browse the website from within my home network either by I.P. or domain name. I can ping the domain and the I.P. from outside the network (from a computer at work). I can't browse the website either by domain name or by I.P. Wierd. Why I can't browse my website?

• How can I get my dynamic site search results content indexed by Google?

  I have a site that is simply a search box to search a cloud-hosted database of .tiff images, and then all of my content can only be accessed by entering a search term. So for example, you're on the home page www.example.com and you type in "search" to the box and hit submit. Then it takes you to www.example.com/?q=search, which is a page of all my .tiff images with "search" in the description. How can I get a page like www.example.com/?q=search indexed, WITHOUT making a humungous list of search terms that people might type in?? I know about mod_rewrite, but it seems like for that you need to know ahead of time which URLs you'll need to convert, which I don't. All of these pages will be dynamically user-generated by typing into the search field. Please help!

  Is there a way to take site inventory using a crawler program that checks either the sources of images for specific servers that serve ads, or, that the crawler looks at a page for specific (html5?) tags like <aside> or some other tag to count the inventory of ad spaces available on a site? The crawler might additionally look at the size of the ads to categorize them into different classifications of ads. Also, what would a crawler like this be called?
