• Metro Walkthrough: Creating a Task List with a ListView and IndexedDB

  The goal of this blog entry is to describe how you can work with data in a Metro style application written with JavaScript. In particular, we create a super simple Task List application which enables you to create and delete tasks. Here’s a video which demonstrates how the Task List application works: In order to build this application, I had to take advantage of several features of the WinJS library and technologies including: IndexedDB – The Task List application stores data in an IndexedDB database. HTML5 Form Validation – The Task List application uses HTML5 validation to ensure that a required field has a value. ListView Control – The Task List application displays the tasks retrieved from the IndexedDB database in a WinJS ListView control. Creating the IndexedDB Database The Task List application stores all of its data in an IndexedDB database named TasksDB. This database is opened/created with the following code: var db; var req = window.msIndexedDB.open("TasksDB", 1); req.onerror = function () { console.log("Could not open database"); }; req.onupgradeneeded = function (evt) { var newDB = evt.target.result; newDB.createObjectStore("tasks", { keyPath: "id", autoIncrement:true }); }; The msIndexedDB.open() method accepts two parameters: the name of the database to open and the version of the database to open. If a database with a matching version already exists, then calling the msIndexedDB.open() method opens a connection to the existing database. If the database does not exist then the upgradeneeded event is raised. You handle the upgradeneeded event to create a new database. In the code above, the upgradeneeded event handler creates an object store named “tasks” (An object store roughly corresponds to a database table). When you add items to the tasks object store then each item gets an id property with an auto-incremented value automatically. The code above also includes an error event handler. If the IndexedDB database cannot be opened or created, for whatever reason, then an error message is written to the Visual Studio JavaScript Console window. Displaying a List of Tasks The TaskList application retrieves its list of tasks from the tasks object store, which we created above, and displays the list of tasks in a ListView control. This handler is called when a database is successfully opened/created. In the code above, all of the items from the tasks object store are retrieved into a cursor and added to a WinJS.Binding.List object named tasks. Because the ListView control is bound to the WinJS.Binding.List object, copying the tasks from the object store into the WinJS.Binding.List object causes the tasks to appear in the ListView: Adding a New Task You add a new task in the Task List application by entering the title of a new task into an HTML form and clicking the Add button. Here’s the markup for creating the form: <form id="addTaskForm"> <input id="newTaskTitle" title="New Task" required /> <button>Add</button> </form> Notice that the INPUT element includes a required attribute. In a Metro application, you can take advantage of HTML5 Validation to validate form fields. First, it adds the new task to the tasks object store in the IndexedDB database. Second, it adds the new task to the data source bound to the ListView. The dataSource.insertAtEnd() method is called to add the new task to the data source so the new task will appear in the ListView (with a nice little animation). Deleting Existing Tasks The Task List application enables you to select one or more tasks by clicking or tapping on one or more tasks in the ListView. When you click the Delete button, the selected tasks are removed from both the IndexedDB database and the ListView. For example, in the following screenshot, two tasks are selected. In the code above, the deleteTask() method is called for each of the selected tasks. In both cases, the right task is removed by using the key associated with the task. However, the task key is different in the case of the database and in the case of the ListView. In the case of the database, the task key is the value of the task id property. In the case of the ListView, on the other hand, the task key is auto-generated by the ListView. When the task is removed from the ListView, an animation is used to collapse the tasks which appear above and below the task which was removed. The Complete Code Above, I did a lot of jumping around between different files in the application and I left out sections of code. For the sake of completeness, I want to include the entire code here: the default.html, default.js, and tasks.js files. Here are the contents of the default.html file.   I am running Kubuntu 13.10 on a Lenovo G500 laptop. My question is similar to this one: How can I remap my F keys on my HP laptop? That is to say, my F1-F12 keys are mapped to certain special functions, and only holding down the Fn key restores access to the standard F1-F12 keys. How do I remap certain keys? I would like to know if there is a way to remap Fx to Fn+Fx and vice-versa. As per the instructions of #87043 I checked my BIOS and there is no option to switch the Fx/Fn key functionality. Googling through Leonovo's support forums indicates a BIOS update enabling this is in the works, but there's no indication of when it will be complete. Using xev I was able to see what X sees when F1-F12 are pressed.   After upgrading from lubuntu 13.10 to 14.04 the fan of my laptop seems to run much more often than in 13.10.   Hi... Two questions: Is there a simple way to do the Curl page flipping animation? A Curl animation is animation of pages flipping, including the page above rolling and the shadows over the lower page. What is the recommended way to do a "gallery" that displays two pages at a time (just like a book)? Is it: Letting the adapter display a linear layout of two images at a time? (it won't let me show a page flipping over the other like a book) Using two pages, placing somehow one near the other, and then when it's time to animate -move the next two pages over? • jQuery Datatable dynamic edit button attached to each row

  totally new to jquery and datatable. I would like to add an edit button that call forth a colorbox div that displays all the editable field. can anyone point me in the right direction on how this can be achieved? I was able to add a sClass to each field and use fnDrawCallback callback to call colorbox from field. But this is kind of messy and I rather just have a button at the end of each row for edit purpose. thanks very much for any pointers.

  I have finished the programming on my first web site using Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2010 Express. I have copied all of the files to the GoDaddy server, but the site still displays "Coming Soon". I spoke with their tech support who tell me that there is no "index" file. I used the "Copy Web Site" function in VWD to move all the files over via FTP, so I know of no other files that should be copied. Nor do I understand what they are referring to as in "index" file. Has anybody else had this problem? Can anybody help me to figure out why this isn't working? Thanks! Randy

  Hi, In the user interface there has to be a spinner which contains some names (the names are visible) and each name has its own ID (the IDs are not equal to display sequence). When the user selects the name from the list the variable currentID has to be changed. The application contains the ArrayList Where User is an object with ID and name: public class User{ public int ID; public String name; } What I don't know is how to create a spinner which displays the list of user's names and bind spinner items to IDs so when the spinner item is selected/changed the variable currentID is set to appropriate value.   hi all.. Consider two php scripts(o.php & t.php) o.php contains both html and php. html here gets user input for eg:user name and password this information is passed to php using php-self. I want the user input of o.php passed to t.php without any modification in o.php. I ve used include and require in the t.php but the problem is it displays the output of o.php but i need only the user input values from o.php without displaying the output of o.php. Using functions or session in o.php we can pass user input but am in the situation tat i should not add or modify o.php. thanks in advance!!

• Android: TabHost How To: set new content in existing tabs upon menu button?

  Hello stackoverflow, I recently started Android programming and was working on my first program which displays a historic text document, sectioned by tabs via TabHost. I have limited my program to one activity and merely used setContent in my TabSpec's to switch between different XML views. The document has both unedited and corrected versions of the text for which I have built text views to accommodate. I wanted to implement the standard menu to have buttons to "view corrected" and "view original" and switch the content of the tabs which have changes (without altering the tabs or their indicators). I've read on the TabHost API and there is no way to edit existing tab content with setContent() of TabSpec; and AFAIK TabWidget only affects the actual tabs, not the content that is displayed upon pressing them. I've thought about creating a new class which extended TabHost and super() all of the original methods, while including one more which updated the mTabSpec list. My question would be, how would I update the frameLayout view of a specific tab to display content I specify?

  Okay I'm trying to add comments and reactions count just like what you would normally see on some wordpress blogs like http://johntwang.com/blog/ where on the left top of each post there is ** comment and * reactions* My problem is I can't find the disqus's documentation, where hopefully there is some method I can call to return me the number of reactions and comments. Also if I use the wordpress default method <?php comments_popup_link ('zero','one','more','CSSclass','none');?> it only displays "Comments" not even the comment's number count on the main page. How can I add reaction and comment count with disqus plugin ? edit: well my site is http://www.windows7hacker.com/ I don't know how I suppose to add comments count at first place. But right now if I use the wordpress method, it will return me only comments, which is exactlly one of the problem they have described in their help page I've tired to check the comment count option still doesn't work :(

  Hi all, I have a class A which is a subclass of uitableviewcontroller and one more class B which actually displays my tableview with its content is a subclass of A. There's an xml parser which parses my xml and stores the content in an nsmutablearray of application delegate. Now, I fetch this delegate array into a local nsmutablearray in class B to minimise the communication between the two classes i.e. delegate and class B and display that. After certain condition is met in class A, I'm calling xml parser to refill the delegate array and I'm calling class B's tableview reload method. The problem is when I call the tableview's reload data, class B's delegate methods are called. But before that I need to grab this delegate array in local array in class B. How shall I do that? Can anybody please help? Thanx in advance.

  Hi Al, I need to make a page which displays a video. Firefox and and Opera support the OGG format, no problem there. Chrome is ... "stupid" and does not recognize OGG. Does Chrome on Windows know how to handle WMV? I already have them encoded, and no I cannot recode new videos since the media is limited in spaced (CDROM). My code currently looks like this (and not working in chrome) <video controls> <source codecs="theora, vorbis" media="video/ogg" src="video.ogv" /> <source media="video/x-ms-wmv" src="video.wmv" /> Please install a new browser, or just get out </video> Note that I am missing a codec entry, does anyone know what I need to put there?
