• Casting to specify unknown object type?

  In the following code I have a view object that is an instance of UIScrollView, if I run the code below I get warnings saying that "UIView might not respond to -setContentSize etc." UIImage *image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"Snowy_UK.jpg"]; imageView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:image]; [[self view] addSubview:imageView]; [[self view] setContentSize:[image size]]; [[self view] setMaximumZoomScale:2.0]; [[self view] setMinimumZoomScale: [[self view] bounds].size.width / [image size].width]; I have checked the type of the object and [self view] is indeed a UIScrollView. I am guessing that this is just the compiler making a bad guess as to the type and the solution is simply to cast the object to the correct type manually, am I getting this right? • Conversion failed when converting the varchar value to int

  Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (SP1), getting an unexpected 'Conversion failed' error. Not quite sure how to describe this problem, so below is a simple example. The CTE extracts the numeric portion of certain IDs using a search condition to ensure a numeric portion actually exists. The CTE is then used to find the lowest unused sequence number (kind of): CREATE TABLE IDs (ID CHAR(3) NOT NULL UNIQUE); INSERT INTO IDs (ID) VALUES ('A01'), ('A02'), ('A04'), ('ERR'); WITH ValidIDs (ID, seq) AS ( SELECT ID, CAST(RIGHT(ID, 2) AS INTEGER) FROM IDs WHERE ID LIKE 'A[0-9][0-9]' ) SELECT MIN(V1.seq) + 1 AS next_seq FROM ValidIDs AS V1 WHERE NOT EXISTS ( SELECT * FROM ValidIDs AS V2 WHERE V2.seq = V1.seq + 1 ); The error is, 'Conversion failed when converting the varchar value 'RR' to data type int.' I can't understand why the value ID = 'ERR' should be being considered for conversion because the predicate ID LIKE 'A[0-9][0-9]' should have removed the invalid row from the resultset. • Stata Nearest neighbor of percentile

  This has probably already been answered, but I must just be searching for the wrong terms. Suppose I am using the built in Stata data set auto: sysuse auto, clear and say for example I am working with 1 independent and 1 dependent variable and I want to essentially compress down to the IQR elements, min, p(25), median, p(75), max... so I use command, keep weight mpg sum weight, detail return list local min=r(min) local lqr=r(p25) local med = r(p50) local uqr = r(p75) local max = r(max) keep if weight==`min' | weight==`max' | weight==`med' | weight==`lqr' | weight==`uqr' Hence, I want to compress the data set down to only those 5 observations, and for example in this situation the median is not actually an element of the weight vector. there is an observation above and an observation below (due to the definition of median this is no surprise). is there a way that I can tell stata to look for the nearest neighbor above the percentile. ie. if r(p50) is not an element of weight then search above that value for the next observation? The end result is I am trying to get the data down to 2 vectors, say weight and mpg such that for each of the 5 elements of weight in the IQR have their matching response in mpg. Any thoughts?

• Fixing parent controller's elements after screen orientation

  I have a tab bar application with mixed orientation support for only some views. One of the child view controller shown from one of the tab's navigation controller is displayed only in Landscape mode. In order to accomplish this, I've done the view transformation for the child view as suggested here: Is there a documented way to set the iPhone orientation? The only problem I'm seeing is that after I've performed the orientation adjustment for the child controller and then readjusted orientation back to normal on its dismissal, the contents of the (parent) navigation controller is still shown with Landscape mode dimensions despite the navigation controller reporting the correct value for the interfaceOrientation. How do I ensure that view's size is reset to match the orientation without hardcoding screen dimensions? • How do I perform a flip and grow animation like in iPhoto 09?

  I'm developing a Cocoa application and want to be able to click a button in one of the views in my NSCollectionView and have a details view flip open and position to the middle of the screen like it does in iPhoto 09 when you click the "i" in the bottom-right hand corner of a photo. The photo "flips" and grows, centered on the window to reveal details about the photo. I'm guessing they're using Core Animation to achieve this. I've been looking at the Lemur Flip example, but when I try to modify it to add repositioning code to the animation, it throws off the flip. • Cocoa Touch: Creating and Adding Custom View

  I create a custom view in cocoa touch that is superclassed by UIView and in my main controller I initialize it and then add it as a subview to the main view, but when I add it to the main view it calls my initializer method again and causes an infinite loop. Am I going about creating my custom view wrong? • How can I render an in-memory UIViewController's view Landscape?

  I'm trying to render an in-memory (but not in hierarchy, yet) UIViewController's view into an in-memory image buffer so I can do some interesting transition animations. However, when I render the UIViewController's view into that buffer, it is always rendering as though the controller is in Portrait orientation, no matter the orientation of the rest of the app. How do I clue this controller in?   I'm looking to check whether any of a list of integers fall in a list of ranges. The ranges are defined in a table defined something like: # Extra Type Field Default Null Key 0 int(11) rangeid 0 NO PRI 1 int(11) max 0 NO MUL 2 int(11) min 0 NO MUL Using MySQL 5.1 and Perl 5.10. I can check whether a single value, say 7, is in any of the ranges with a statement like SELECT 1 FROM range WHERE 7 BETWEEN min AND max If 7 is in any of those ranges, I get a single row back. If it isn't, no rows are returned. Now I have a list of, say, 50 of these values, not stored in a table at present. I assemble them using map: my $value_list = '(' . ( join ', ', map { int $_ } @values ) . ')' ; I want to see if any of the items in the list fall inside of any of the ranges, but am not particularly concerned with which number nor which range. I'd like to use a syntax such as: SELECT 1 FROM range WHERE (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 42, 309, 10000) BETWEEN min AND max MySQL kindly chastises me for such syntax: Operand should contain 1 column(s) I pinged #mysql who were quite helpful. However, having already written this up by the time they responded and thinking it'd be helpful to fix the answer in a more permanent medium, I figured I'd post the question anyhow. Maybe SO will provide a different solution?

  I have a Log object that contains a list of Curve objects. Each curve has a Name property and an array of doubles. I want the Name to be in the column header and the data below it. I have a user control with a datagid. • jquery animate from object center

  Hi. I am trying to create a product viewer similar to the one at the bottom of this page http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/. As you can see the product animates from the center rather than top left which I think is Jquery's default. So what I am doing is trying animate the width and height and then also the offset to make it look like it animates from the center.   Hi guys I have an instance where I have a logo image as part of some artwork.. If a user uploads a new logo I have a form field which is larger than the default logo. I then use that form field to position the new image. • Components inside a repeater not resizing as expected

  I have an mxml panel in which I'm using a repeater. The panel can be resized horizontally and I would like for the repeated components to resize together with panel. Here is a simplified example of how things look like: <mx:TitleWindow xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="vertical" ...> <!-- scripts and some controls --> <mx:VBox width="100%"> <core:Repeater width="100%" dataProvider="model"> <ns1:MyItemRenderer width="100%" /> </core:Repeater> </mx:VBox> </mx:TitleWindow> When I resize the component, the width of the repeated items does not change. There also buttons and event handlers, which add and remove items from the model. When this is done, the repeater updates to display the correct number of items and all the items are resized correctly. I have not been able to get the items to resize when the root panel is resized. I can see, that the VBOx around the repeater is getting a resize event. However, the repeated items are not getting the event. I tried to dispatch a resize event to the repeated items manually from a resize handler I hooked up to the VBox but that didn't help. I also tried adding and removing a dummy-item from the ArrayCollection which is the dataProvider (because that triggers a correct resize otherwise as mentioned above) However, doing this in the resize handler of the VBox just leads to the repeater not showing any items at all. Is there any way to get items in a repeater to resize with their enclosing container?

(This JSON is dynamically created via PHP, so I could craft a PHP function that could possibly do this more efficently), or am I completely missing something about how to find items in a JSON object? As always, any suggestions for improving the code are welcome! EDIT: I apologize for not making this clear, but the purpose of this question is to find a way to improve the performance. The page has a lot of javascript, and this is a location where I know that performance is lower than it could be.

• Rotate using a transform, then change frame origin, and view expands??

  This is quite the iPhone quandry. I am working on a library, but have narrowed down my problem to very simple code. What this code does is create a 50x50 view, applies a rotation transform of a few degrees, then shifts the frame down a few times. The result is the 50x50 view is now much larger looking. That is to say, why doesn't the input box expand to fit its container like other block elements with width: auto; do? I tried checking the "User Agent CSS" in Firebug to see if I could come up with something there. No luck. I couldn't find any specific differences in CSS that I could specifically link to the input box behaving differently from the regular div.filler. Besides curiousity, I'd like to know why this is to get to the bottom of it to figure out a way to set width once and forget it. My current practice of explicitly setting the width of both input and its containing block element seems redundant and less than modular. While I'm familiar with the technique of wrapping the input element in a div then assigning to the input element negative margins, this seems quite undesirable.

• Find and replace certain part of value (jquery)

  This might be a little complicated. See code below. When image is clicked I want to change "MY-ID-NUMBER" in "value" and "src" of object. But I want the other information to remain. When link is clicked I want to restore "value" and "src" so I can use the same function for next image that is clicked. Is it possible? Please help!
